From the Filmfares (The Bachchans and Shahrukh Khan)

Jodha Akbar had a very good night overall. Hrithik won best actor and of course Rahman won for the music. Aamir Khan was again denied best actor while Priyanka won best actress for Fashion. Normally Filmfare have a habit of rewarding the year’s biggest hit. Ghajini was a historic grosser last year but Aamir’s habit of boycotting all awards functions perhaps ensured this decision much as in 2006 he again did not receive the same despite having the Rang De Basanti/Fanaa double. In any case these awards are mostly so compromised and/or corrupt that I wish more stars would follow Aamir’s lead in this matter.
Nonetheless Abhishek and Shahrukh seem to be sharing a warm moment here.. Shahrukh has just gone through major shoulder surgery. One hopes he’s able to recover quickly..

I believe Priyanka won best actress and Asin best newcomer
ps. don’t care who wins as long as they all have a cracking time taking the piss out of each other

Awards mean very little in any case. People can knock the Oscars but what the Oscars definitely have is a certain culture attached to them, a culture where by some little films or ones which have made it to shortlists (un-noticed by the masses) definitely benefit commercially from the exposure at Oscars. This is mainly because film lovers “care” and “read into” whats happening at the Oscars or the Globes etc. So many films historically see a hike in collections in and around the whole Oscar buzz (pre and post) – if its good enough for the Oscars its good enough for the public to run to theatres to watch it.
No Indian awards function can do this. Here it is more a case of if its good enough for the ticket window, its good enough to get the awards.

Predictable! Knew JA would win the major awards. Critics awards did throw a surprise especially the actor in OLLY winning the Best Actor(Critic).

actually, even Hritik in his heart knows that Aamir was the best this year not just because the movie grossed the biggest ever amount but aamir really went all out in the acting dept…….but ya, now this was a FILMFARE show and anyways awards functions these days want to accomodate everyone under the sky and in the process loose credibility…aamir’s biggest award is JANTA VERDICT – and if 115+ cr is something to go by….he must be having a last laugh at all these things….

^No, I think Hrithik gave a strong perfomance as Akbar. Though its not like I ever believed he was actually Akbar! It wasn’t one of those performances!
btw, Love Ash’s saree!
.
I watched these shows to see some the stars. Don’t take the awards all that seriously.

ML: I’m not arguing against Hrithik here even if I would have chosen Aamir in a minute. My point is that Filmfare usually rewards blockbusters though if they can find a mix of critical and commercial success they try to award that film at times (again not with all stars). But I am not necessarily blaming them here as Aamir simply does not show up. It’s hardly the greatest thing for their ratings to award someone who then is absent!

Have no problem with Hrithik winning. I loved his eperformance.
Aamir tho would have won going by FF tradition were it not for his aversion.
Overall, good choices. I tho had a problem with best male vocal. Not a great fan of Haule Haule which is strictly ok and already forgotten.

Hrithik and JA sweeping the awards is fine by me. But the underlying importance of the awards are very diluted.

Om Rocky Om,
No problems. I kno what you mean.

On a different note, Bachchan is deviating too mcuh from his classic dressing style.

The only awards I really feel are undeserved are the ones for Fashion. Kangana has played pretty much the same role for the last three years in her movies and won awards for them – blah. And Priyanka was overrated. Her character did nothing for me and could have been played by any other actress with the same result – nothing special.
Asin as best debut is laughable considering she has done about twenty movies already. Here you have an experienced actress beating true newcomers.

LOL! on Asin!
Kangana was the show stealer in Fashion. Do agree that Priyanka was nothing special here. But it’s also a sad reflection on Bombay cinema that actresses rarely get good lead part.

Let me copy and paste from my posting on BigB blog on day 310 in referance to Stardust award.
Dear AB,
How long one can hold? Why one should hold? Viewing of Stardust award and an agony, pain and conflict inflicted by Anil kapoor’s stupid and senseless attempt to create controversy provided the answer. Yes, one doesn’t need to hold. Perhaps first time in his life Mahesh Bhatt offered true observation by saying “Anil Kapoor is making hay while sun is shining for SM & Danny”. He had just cameo and poor imitation of U (AB) in SM and still he behaves like he is main lead, director and producer of the movie and that is also much after movie getting appalauded!! An empty pots make more noise. Anil is making lots of noise or an empty Anil is making lots of noise. When Govinda refused role in Taal and Taal became hit-Anil declred Govinda as a stupid man and now ironically SK’s refusal of SM is not an act of stupidity. He called it an act of gratitude!!! What a hypocrasy-c’mon Anil be a man and call SR stupid too…Different rules for different people??? Here U graciously took initiative and called him and Danny to explain your position on SM and instead of reciprocating good will and gratitude he tried to take a dig at U and our Blog!!! That was cowardly act and he lost remaining scattered respect for him.
This was written after much delibration and contemplation. An attempt of talk/explanation must not be understood as a weakness
