Aamir once again confirms 3 Idiots for Christmas
Aamir Khan, who is spending time with wife Kiran Rao after her miscarriage last month, says his much-awaited “3 Idiots” will hit the screens in December.
“Vinod (Vidhu Vinod Chopra) and Raju (Raj Kumar Hirani) tell me that the post production on ’3 Idiots’ is progressing well – so by the time I get back, the cut (final product) will be ready. Which means I can confirm to all those of you who have been repeatedly asking… yes, ’3 Idiots’ will be releasing on Christmas this year. I’ll see the cut once I get back,” he wrote on his blog.

He didn’t reveal his whereabouts, but informed: “Kiran and I are away from home, in one very quiet spot, just lying in and resting. Reading, going for walks, watching films.”
The actor says he is utilising his time to catch up on a few films and books – something that he hasn’t been able to do thanks to his chock-a-block schedules.
“There are so many films to see, and books to read. One life time is not enough. Books, I read, but films I never get down to seeing.
“Strange, since, I love cinema so much. It’s not as if I don’t enjoying watching films. I really do, in fact when I watch a film I forget to blink and my eyes start hurting after a while. But for someone who is so steeped in films I have watched pathetically few films in all these years,” he said.
Aamir is glad that he has finally managed to watch 1994 American film “The Shawshank Redemption”, which was recommended to him by many.
“Just saw ‘(The) Shawshank Redemption’. Had heard so much about this film. It seems to be on a lot of must see’ lists. Really enjoyed it,” he added.

I wonder if Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet may just be a working title for a Guru Dutt biopic with Aamir.
August 31, 2009 at 9:58 AM
False news. Bombay Velvet has John Abraham and Nasser cast already. I believe it has even started production.

Bombay Velvet is a crime thriller set in the 60s. Kashyap talks about working with Aamir in this interview:

Kashyap is scripting Guru Dutt’s biopic for Shivendra Singh Dungarpur.

thanks for that extensive Kashyap interview. An interesting read. He calls D6 his favorite Mehra film. Also loved the bits on Italian cinema. Such education is so rare in ‘Bollywood’.

I had said months ago in response to various media stories that I didn’t see this film getting delayed because of Kites etc.
August 31, 2009 at 9:48 AM
This is probably the best bit of new news for the 2009 movie year…
August 31, 2009 at 11:25 AM
i agree.. i cant wait for the teaser here… especially i want to see kareenas playing love interest of hari or ryan…

Bombay Velvet has been in the news before….Kashyap and Abraham were supposed to do it after No Smoking. It does seem to about the life of Guru Dutt

Really psyched about 3 Idiots: there was enough in the Maddy camaraderie with the likes of aamir and sharman in Rang De Basanti to leave me wanting more — and this film looks like its going to deliver. Plus, if the likes of Sikandar and Evano Oruvan trailers are anything to go by, Mady looks a lot fitter than he was in Mehra’s film…

Re: “Such education is so rare in ‘Bollywood’.”
Also glad he tries to keep up with (the unfortunately-named) “regional” cinema — he mentioned Marathi cinema and Subramaniapuram…

My thoughts exactly. It’s one thing for a filmmaker to name the titans of world cinema, another to find the neglected gems in his own backyard.
August 31, 2009 at 2:10 PM
absolutely..
August 31, 2009 at 3:45 PM
Glad to hear this news straight from Aamir rather than the speculation of say Mumbai Mirror or Glamsham.
August 31, 2009 at 4:19 PM
absolutely.. and he’s confirmed it at least twice now..
August 31, 2009 at 3:50 PM
And if any film has a chance of knocking Kaminey off my list of this year’s best, this is surely it. Hirani already made my favorite Hindi mainstream film of this decade, and as I’ve said before it’ll be great to see him outside of the Munnabhai framework.
August 31, 2009 at 11:45 PM
yup it will be a sort of test i feel or challenge that can he outlive Munnabhai because many a other directors have failed after their good debut movies like farhan akhtar, aditya chopra, etc
(m just cinematic point of view not bo)
September 1, 2009 at 2:00 AM
chill rooney! Raju will outlive MB in such a way that afterwards he will find it difficult to oullive 3i….:-)

idea ke muh me ghee sakar
btw havnt checked toss … but public opinion has been disapointing even her role was short i felt.. but may this be the beginning and i hope she can make big leaps in near future…
September 1, 2009 at 4:43 AM
“but may this be the beginning and i hope she can make big leaps in near future”, yes let us hope so – but a multistarrer flop like this in her CV is not going to get her roles…best would be, as I said earlier, do solo heroine projects down south and in the meanwhile keep in touch with BW directors for good projects..she can also try good bengali cinema…

yo idea.. wil deliver ur suggestion…
September 2, 2009 at 6:27 AM
Only God knows the truth about Aamir’s films. Acc to latest news from TOI, DG will release in July 2010; and acc to Stardust site, 3I will release within first 3 months of 2010.
September 2, 2009 at 6:36 AM
Latest I read was in DNA, Hirani says ‘We are trying our best to meet the deadline’ Public expectations are high on this film arriving at christmas and I think Aamir and Hirani will deliver. It would be a loss of great opportunity.

Rooney:
(dont believ it to be true ..but its a fun reading)
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/bollywood/news-interviews/Aamir-Khan-is-superhero-Hanuman/articleshow/4970315.cms
September 4, 2009 at 4:42 AM
“The whole project now depends on Aamir’s nod which he’ll give only after he approves of the script ”
“Says Pradeep Guha, “He has been approached. But Aamir will decide after he reads the script.”
Other sources insist that the makers of Hanuman are keen to have Aamir on board and ready to comply with all his preconditions.
Once Aamir signs the film formally, the first schedule of Hanuman is expected to be held in Rajasthan at the end of the year. The rest of the film will be shot at Hollywood studios. ”
This looks a genuine stuff – only that shooting in Rajasthan in Dec’09 looks wishful…..in any case, if this comes true……vow!

Nice interview…glad to hear he is not cashing in on Munnabhai and is trying to out do the previous two films
