Mohanlal dubs for Mammotty’s Pazhassi Raja… (updated)
This is going to be a huge film. Really want to catch this.

Mohanlal dubs for Pazhassi Raja

Mohanlal has dubbed a prologue for Mammootty’s Hariharan directed magnum opus Pazhassi Raja!

It will be Mohanlal who would introduce Pazhassi Raja to the audiences through a 45 second prologue.

Says one of the producers of the film Praveen: “ Mr Mohanlal went out of his way to accommodate us when we requested him to dub the prologue. His introductory voice over has made the film richer.”

Meanwhile the producers are gearing up for the biggest ever release of Pazhassi Raja, on October 2.

Added Praveen: “We are planning to release in nearly 700 screens in India in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. In Malayalam alone we are targeting 250 screens worldwide.”

Grand images here and it’s fitting that Mohanlal is doing a voiceover..

Mammotty is just great to watch these days, as much as I love Mohanlal and remain an ardent fan, this is really a golden time for the other M…he seems to be keeping such a sure-footed balance. Really great stuff.
September 14, 2009 at 3:59 PM
you see I was always onto something with Mammooty!
September 14, 2009 at 4:08 PM
Don’t push it, lol…
Seriously though, Mammootty has never not been among my top three or four favorites in Indian cinema…like Lal, he was a part of a fine cinema culture for so long that his greatness could be easily justified as a natural extension of the times that encouraged this kind of ambition and accomplishment…
But the way he’s managed this current phase of his career in such a dark and dire time for Malayalam cinema is just exemplary.
September 14, 2009 at 4:10 PM
It’s hard to think of any star in Indian cinema who’s looked more regal than Mammootty does here.. truly exciting images..
September 14, 2009 at 4:23 PM
and the thing is he is regal while always being, very very recognizably, the mammoothy of decidedly non-regal roles too… that faintly mean glint in the yes, that borderline sneer, is like a signature…

Thanks Satyam, this is great.
September 14, 2009 at 4:13 PM
By the way this is Rajen’s ideal day. There has never been more Malayalam cinema on the front page of the blog. From Prem Nazir to Mohanlal to Mammootty we’ve truly covered all the giants! And the Rajni snaps remain at the bottom as a special bonus for our friend!
September 14, 2009 at 4:15 PM
Not coincidentally it’s probably also his last day.
I wonder if there’s any news on Unnai Pol Oruvan so we can invite Kamal to the party…
September 14, 2009 at 4:16 PM
Ha! will check right now!
September 14, 2009 at 4:20 PM
well I got in a longer version of Shruti’s vaanam illai video!
September 14, 2009 at 4:27 PM
actually I found a few images too.. now we have the entire Fab Four!
September 14, 2009 at 4:16 PM
Made this the top most once again. Blue cannot be allowed to submerge this.
Now this is what the truly iconic star is really about. This is pure transcendence..
September 14, 2009 at 4:25 PM
I might make the trip to Maveli for this…would be a first for me!
September 14, 2009 at 4:29 PM
where do you normally see Malayalam films? Or haven’t you seen one in the theater so far? Let’s say the Mavelli ambience is not worthy of Pazhassi Raja!
September 14, 2009 at 4:37 PM
I’ll see your Maveli and raise you an Imaginasian!
I haven’t really ever made the trip up myself expressly for a Malayalam film (the last few years have not exactly inspired such an odyssey!) and I normally wait to catch them on VHS or VCD…really it’s my family that deserves the credit for corralling this stuff together for me..
September 14, 2009 at 4:48 PM
I have been to the Maveli maybe three or four times in the past decade, but again, never actually went up without hitching a ride…and yeah, Pazhassi Raja deserves better but unless the Ziegfeld decides to drastically change their target demographic, it’s off to Spring Valley I go!
September 14, 2009 at 5:06 PM
LOL!

Satyam,
I used to frequent NG before but lately have not been able to because of work commitments. But have been perusing this site lately and have to commend you that you have done a fantastic job with this blog. It has a very sophisticated look and quality postings and comments. I used to love your post on the best Hollywood/foreign movies of different years but looks like you are not active on that thread. Anyway good job with this blog.
September 14, 2009 at 5:25 PM
thanks so much for your very generous comments Pranav.. greatly appreciated.. I have those foreign movie threads in the sidebar here.. I have a couple to add to the 2008 thread.. haven’t done so for a while but will soon.. but certainly there have been proper posts on many foreign and American films here.
September 14, 2009 at 6:15 PM
Pranav: while I am a fan of those threads, I am also scared of Satyam’s “best of…” threads — one of those (2007?) shuru to hui thee, par khatam shaayad nahin hui…
September 14, 2009 at 8:31 PM
ha ha!
September 14, 2009 at 6:37 PM
LOL. Q, I know those threads used to take an eternity to load but they were/are really cool. I remember your take on them from before. How are things on your end? I haven’t commented on NG for a while but come across rks on FB sometimes.
September 14, 2009 at 6:38 PM
Things are ok…bit up in the air on work front, but otherwise am ok…
September 15, 2009 at 12:09 PM
Surprisingly no previews on this so far when the release is less than a month away..
September 22, 2009 at 9:28 AM
September 22, 2009 at 9:31 AM
this is Mammootty’s Loud Speaker which also released this past weekend.
September 22, 2009 at 9:34 AM
Yeah. Gracy Singh’s in it…
September 22, 2009 at 9:35 AM
ah, she’s resurfaced..
September 22, 2009 at 9:41 AM
She was also in the movie Q reviewed a while back, “Dekh Bhai Dekh” and while she’s not one of my favorites by any stretch she’s got this nice energy that works well in “smaller” roles. Given that she’s been in two of the most important Hindi films this decade it’s too bad she couldn’t parlay that success into at least a solid career as a character actress.
September 22, 2009 at 9:29 AM
Hadn’t heard this song before but it’s a beautiful melody..
September 22, 2009 at 12:50 PM
Re: Gracie Singh: she is, unfortunately, in the wrong era: in today’s Bollywood there is very little room for a lead actress who is not “a babe”. It would be as if, in the 1970s, the industry only had room for a Parveen Babi or a Zeenat Aman.

Ramzan brings cheer to Mollywood!
The Ramzan weekend has brought some cheer to the beleaguered Malayalam film industry reeling under an avalanche of flops.
Among the Ramzan releases Mammootty’s Jayaraj directed Loudspeaker, opened to lukewarm crowds on Sunday noon show but picked up by evening as the word of mouth was good on the film. It is said to be Mammootty’s best film in recent times.
MA Nishad’s Vairam featuring Tamil actor Pasupathy, Suresh Gopi, Samvrutha Sunil and others is getting rave reviews and is being appreciated by the family audiences. It is a slow starter at the box-office but has chance to pick up in the coming days.
Even Suraj Venjaranmoodu’s Duplicate is getting the audiences. The film considering its budget (Rs 1.25 Crore), will not only cover its cost but also will do better in B and C.
The Kamal Hassan-Mohanlal Unnaipol Oruvan in Tamil which had a limited release has been appreciated and is doing well in Cities.
September 25, 2009 at 11:11 PM
looks like Mammootty has another hit going into Pazhassi Raja.

GF: I might consider watching this without subs at Mavelli.. don’t want to miss out on this Mammootty persona.
September 26, 2009 at 12:05 PM
I envy you….this is one of the most awaited Malayalam films in my book..
If you do see it, please let us know your thoughts. On Vidheyan, I would urge you to try it but it can be somewhat complicated particularly with the Kannada mixed in….has to be one of my favorite Mammootty performances and instantly on my top five in Indian cinema.
September 26, 2009 at 12:07 PM
what do you mean?! You’re not going to catch this at mavelli?! I thought that was a given!
September 26, 2009 at 12:11 PM
Maveli is never a given for me! But you’re right I might have to buckle down and make the trip up for this…..
Satyam, actually, you should keep your eye out for the DVD release of Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha (I don’t believe it’s out and I have a VHS copy buried somewhere) which I believe will inform much of this persona…
And in general I’d agree on Mammootty in terms of actors in Indian cinema portraying the regal parts. He really fits the template better than anyone.
September 26, 2009 at 12:08 PM
and of course the dialog is precisely the issue that makes me think about this.. because one loses a great deal in a film with heavy dialog.
September 26, 2009 at 12:01 PM
should do the same for Vidheyan too though here I’m not sure if a DVD is available.
September 26, 2009 at 10:48 PM
Kamal and SRK in on the action:
http://sify.com/movies/tamil/fullstory.php?id=14912238
this film will see a mammoth opening!
September 26, 2009 at 11:04 PM
Those posters are among the best I’ve seen in recent Malayalam cinema – thanks Satyam. Also for the trailers…
September 26, 2009 at 11:06 PM
I think these are the best for recent Indian cinema, let alone Malayalam. Simply superb.
September 27, 2009 at 1:39 AM
Satyam, thanks much for putting these up. These do look spectacular. Really hope Hariharan and MT have done something worthwhile here.
September 27, 2009 at 2:30 AM
yeah both stills and trailers look great..
September 26, 2009 at 11:06 PM
The only problem with them is Mammootty has to share space with Sarath Kumar. The latter actually looks quite cool as well, but he’s never been someone I enjoy onscreen….some of the weakest Tamil films I’ve seen have had this guy…
September 26, 2009 at 11:07 PM
Mostly I can’t stand Sarath Kumar but I think here the period getup and the age factor makes him quite alright.
September 26, 2009 at 11:19 PM
I like the one with the fiery background the most…
September 28, 2009 at 5:21 PM
Met my Mallu friend yesterday- he said he intends to show his daughter 20-20 when she is 10 to show her the entire malyalam film history in one film. according to him it is like having a dictionary although per him the movie sucks big time.
September 28, 2009 at 5:22 PM
It’s pretty unbearable. Like a glorified press conference of the actor’s union with a plot written around it.
September 28, 2009 at 5:31 PM
Ya he was saying it was for a funraiser, he wanted to give me the dvd of the prakashraj movie ( can’t remember the name )but he said the heroine has acted in a pretty vulgar way!! LOL
