Rationally speaking, one cannot rule out the revival of pluralism , where many stars and not one shall monopolise the marquee,” predicted Bollywood author-columnist Dinesh Raheja a few years ago. For the longest time, one man ruled Hindi cinema – Amitabh Bachchan.

All roles were written keeping the angry young man in mind. Cut to the present when a role is a role is a role. And any actor can play it, as long as everything else falls into place. In fact, if you look carefully, there are three sets of stars in three different age groups all of who qualify for exactly the same roles. Hindi cinema has just gone over the curve. And there’s a set of actors out there rewriting the rules.

“And the messages flow in from all sections. I am amazed how the elite of South Mumbai have the time and the inclination to listen to Hindi poetry. But they did and hold my hand in a gentle wrap.”

“…to the days spent with him and his travels in sometimes harsh circumstances, to the countless poetic soirees in and around the city we lived in – an act that would bring in that extra 500 to a 1000 rupees, so valuable for our kitchen and home. Having worked in office the entire day for my Father to then be driven out for hours into the night to neighboring destinations and then to perform all night his poetry and return in the early hours of the morning to start the next day in office, was an incredible physical exertion.”

“I do believe that our educational system does rather well in bringing up our children in the right atmosphere, with the right teachings. And I believe that if any corruption takes place it must take place when they get exposed to the outside world.”

“It matters not what time the corner on the screen displays. It matters not whether I take heed of the many warnings of the FmXt towards my health. What matters most is the desire to connect with my familia extendum irrespective of the hour and circumstance.”

Overstays its welcome…..Sandy’s review of De Dana Dan

Director: Priyadarshan
Starring: Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Suneil Shetty, Archana Puran Singh, Paresh Rawal, Sameera Reddy, among others
Stars: **1/2

All those people berating Akshay Kumar films for being no brainers, be warned!
With De Dana Dan, the actor takes his revenge with a film that puts you through a test for recall ability. So you get a film about supreme confusions all arising out of supreme silliness. Take that!
Like it’s title suggests, there’s great rapidity to the action with douzens of characters getting thrown into all kind of confusing events, most of them brought about by their own stupidity, rather than any real situational comedy.
