Aamir still possible for the Guru Dutt biopic
LINK

A biopic on the legendary filmmaker Guru Dutt is underway and none-other-than Aamir Khan is likely to play the veteran in the film. The iconic filmmaker’s son Arun Dutt said that the film’s script in being written by Anurag Kashyap and Aamir has already been approached for the role.
“A script on the life of Guru Dutt and his struggle in the Bollywood decades ago is being written by a famous film maker Anurag Kashyap and director Shivendra Dungarpur,” Arun said.
He was here to inaugurate the 2nd Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF).
“Aamir Khan likely to play in it, but he has asked
us to provide bound copy of the script. It will take time,” he said.
“In a personal request to the script writer we have asked to be cautious while touching the topic of the relationship between my mother Geeta Dutt, my father and also Wahida Rehmanji,” he said.
Arun also added that Dutt’s work, which includes films like ‘Pyasa’ and ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Gulam’, is under restoration.
Nine such films would be digitised with the latest computer technology under the National Film Archive progamme, Arun said.
To begin with, the restoration work of ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Gulam’ has been taken up, he said.

I think Aamir should go for this one. This is the sort of risk he can easily take at this point and I don’t believe it will fail if done right.

And beyond risk I think he’s just right for the part…hopefully with Kashyap behind it we’ll get something very special.

I doubt that Aamir will work on this one. Beyond challenges an all, I don’t think he will find the script exciting enough or commercially viable. I believe this was the same reason he never went back to Ratnam to restart Lajjo. He probably realized that even with a director like Ratnam, the movie may not work at the box office. Same goes for dropping Mr. Mehta and Mrs. Singh with Bharadwaj.

Strangely enough, both projects claimed the same reason to be shelved — copyright issues.
Laajo would’ve been a fantastic movie.

I thought Lajjo was shelved because of an issue between Bobby Bedi (producer) and Ratnam? Didn’t know it was a copy right deal. As for Mr. Mehta….I believe it was Aamir who went to Bharadval and told him that he didn’t feel that the movie would work with the current script.

i just hope katrina kaif isn’t chosen for waheedaji’s role. i know she and aamir recreated that legendary pyaasa cover and she looked great and all, but still!….
January 29, 2010 at 12:01 PM
oops, i goofed, lol. i should’ve known its a movie about guru dutt’s life. i don’t know why “pyaasa” came to mind!
January 30, 2010 at 7:54 AM
Well Katrina is a shrewd gal. You only have to see where she started with Boom and where she has now arrived. If she can persuade Aamir that she is good enough for this project, she will. In any case, I am sure that Aamir can give her tips and help extract a good performance out of her.

I know his fans believe Aamir can do anything but you’re asking for miracles here!

i believe in these awards, BIG B was gr8 but aamir was far superior. ditto for priyanka and vidya.

Too early to speculate. On paper it sounds good and iteresting but it all depends on the script.
Aamir no doubt can justice to the role but to have mass appeal the script has to be good.
January 29, 2010 at 11:45 AM
I think Amir would look good!
January 29, 2010 at 11:51 AM
To me it sounds like a no-brainer. UNLESS, HE HAS PROBLEMS WITH THE SCRIPT OR THE DIRECTOR. This is rght up his alley.
January 29, 2010 at 4:58 PM
Agree
January 30, 2010 at 7:54 AM
me too infact aamir will suggest some changes and they will be incorporated without an eyeblink…..
January 29, 2010 at 12:28 PM
I think Aamir won’t take that kind of risk at this stage. Don’t know whether he is fit for that kind of role or not.
January 29, 2010 at 2:27 PM
What was Mr Mehta and Mrs Singh about? if anybody could indulge me. the title sounds intriguing.
January 29, 2010 at 2:30 PM
never mind. I googled it. the premise of an extra-marital affair sounds interesting but Aamir thought it would probably wouldn’t work for Indian audiences after the KANK debacle.
January 29, 2010 at 2:40 PM
An entire genre or in this case subject matter wouldn’t be avoided (least of all by Aamir) as a result of a poorly made example…
January 30, 2010 at 6:00 AM
I’d be very intrigued to see how they handle this movie…esp the whole Guru-Geete-Waheeda aspect, as first Arun is involved in making the film, and secondly Waheedaji is still alive so they gotta be careful how they portray things.

I believe Aamir wont do this movie…If we look at Aamirs’ filmography of the last decade…He has always opted for roles which have some “feel good”" element or feeling of “ressurection”"…If we take “”Guru Dutts’” life history ,it is a boring and tragic life…So aamir accepoting this script may a bit difficult…

Rajeev i agree with you but somehow Amir is only actor can do justice.
