Hrithik a magician in Guzaarish
LINK

Over the decades, actors have learnt various skills to get into the skin of their characters. Dilip Kumar learnt to play the sitar for Azad and Shabana Azmi learnt Carnatic sangeet for Morning Raga. While Ranbir Kapoor will learn to play the guitar for Imtiaz Ali’s Rock Star, Hrithik Roshan has recently learnt a skill which no other Indian actor (barring Kamal Haasan in the South) has learnt.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish features Hrithik in the role of a magician. A Ukrainian magician has been specially called to teach Hrithik magic tricks to make him look convincing.
A source says, “Bhansali did not want Hrithik to fake the magic. Nor did he want the usual rabbit-from-the-hat kind of tricks. The director wanted the magic scenes to look authentic, so a hunt was launched for a magician who would fit the bill. The yardstick was to find an expert who will give Guzaarish ample time and establish a comfort level with Hrithik.”
Finally, the man was found. The director has put aside the shoot of the magician scenes for the very end. Now with the rest of the shooting over, the Ukrainian magician is arriving next month to, well, work his magic.
“However, the interesting part is that the Ukrainian magician was in Mumbai for a brief spell, to work with Hrithik. He taught the actor some of the coolest tricks, never seen in these parts. Now the star keeps his two sons (Hrehaan and Hridhaan) entertained all the time, so much so that the elder one, Hrehaan, expects his father to be the official magician of the evening on his next birthday. If Hrithik wants an alternate career he can easily become a magician and give our PC Sorcars a run for their money,” adds the source.
While choosing to remain mum over the ‘magical’ schedule next month, Bhansali confirmed, “A magician’s participation is needed in the film. Beyond that Hrithik and I are hoping to create magic together.”

Not sure if he’s this for the duration of the film but I don’t think this is a bad role for him at all. A natural fit for his persona. Also liked him very much in the ‘Pied Piper’ ad:

Yeah this suddenly seems much more interesting, not least because the world of magicians with their stagey, opulent and sometimes operatic performances seems to be the perfect fit for Bhansali.

its a prestige remake i have heard..
January 31, 2010 at 12:18 PM
not sure its based on Prestige since he plays a paraplegic with Aishwarya as his nurse.
Not sure where this magician stuff fits in though.
Confused but looking forward to film.

Kamal knew magic? I didnt know that! But i know for sure that Mohanlal practices magic professionally and there are more than a dozen international numbers that he mastered. Magician Gopinath Muthukad is his Master.
February 3, 2010 at 1:03 PM
I was hoping Lal would actually turn that skill into a movie.
February 3, 2010 at 2:06 PM
amazing.. never knew this.. why did he acquire these skills?
February 3, 2010 at 2:06 PM
Mohanlal practices magic professionally? Really?
February 3, 2010 at 10:16 PM
last time he planned a magic show was in 2008. He was to perform ‘the great fire escape’ but then the public didn’t allow him to do that owing to a potential threat to the actors life.
Use the keywords ‘Mohanlal, Gopinath Muthukad, and Magic’ to search

you learn something knew every day!

He learned professional tricks not too long ago (don’t recall to what end outside of personal interest) and there were stories of a stage performance, but it was canceled due to the reasons Nibu states below.

Bhansali interview

Lahore is my comeback: Nafisa Ali
Nafisa Ali is back in movies after a long stint. She talks to TOI about her latest release Lahore and future projects.
What made you pick Lahore?
When Sanjay narrated the story I connected with it instantly as the film is about kickboxing and I am a national swimming champion myself. I accepted it because I believe when life gives you a golden opportunity, you must grab it. The script was thought provoking and strong.
Tell me about your character in the movie?
I play the role of a doting mother who has two sons. My sons are famous sportsmen and they mean the world to me. I share a great camaraderie with my sons and would be daughter-in-law but at the same time I am the grounding force that keeps them rooted. It’s a very challenging role and I am looking forward to the audience reactions. Lahore is one of the most authentic sports film ever made in India.
Any new projects after Lahore?
My future project is Guzarish which is directed by my favorite director Sanjay Leela Bhansali where I play Hrithik Roshan’s mother. It will probably be a Diwali release.
You will be seen on screen after a long sabbatical. Where have you been?
After Life in a Metro, Lahore is my comeback film. Cinema was never my profession but it’s my passion so I take time to choose a project. Lahore’s script convinced me to come back on-screen and recreate the magic. I have been really busy with my political career as I have been appointed the co-chairman of the hospitality committee for the Commonwealth Games.
Did you enjoy shooting for Lahore?
I had an amazing time. Lahore has so many wonderful actors like Saurabh Shukla, Farooque, Sabyasachi and Sushant; their timing was such that we instantly used to give the perfect take. Even as a debutante actor, Aanaahad is focused and sharing screen space with him was a pleasure.

Hrithik displays his dark desires?
Hrithik is one actor who knows how to push his boundaries every time he takes up a new role as an actor. In Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s forthcoming film ‘Guzaarish’, where he plays a paraplegic, Hrithik will be seen performing lyrical jazz dance form for the first time!
A source revealed, “It’s the first time lyrical jazz as a dance form will be seen in a Hindi film.”
Hrithik too spoke about his experience on Twitter by saying, “Did lyrical jazz dance 4 Guzaarish. Best dance experience ever! Thanks to Ashley Lobo and his team! His dancing is like an out of body experience!”
Lyrical jazz enables the dancer to develop his or her own expressions of self and is normally performed to express desires, deep feelings and emotions.

An Exclusive First Look At Guzaarish
By Steven Baker – BollySpice.com
22 Sep 2010
Sanjay Leela Bhansali film comes with a lot of expectations, and Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Guzaarish is no exception. We have already given you a preview of some of the costumes from the project, and thought we would now share some insider info on the first promo. BollySpice was in attendance at an exclusive screening of the film’s initial look in London, which in a number one for Hindi cinema, was synchronised at the same time as its debut showing in Bombay.
The film’s tagline: “See what I see, feel what I feel, believe what I believe” transports you to a world of visual splendour, magic and ill fated love. There can be no mistaking this is the palette of Bhansali. The opening shot introduces a bearded wheelchair bound Ethan (Roshan) growing increasingly frustrated by a fly circling his face, before reflecting back to beautifully shot memories of movement, of music and of dance.
The lead actors are presented in a very different avatar to how they have been seen together in Dhoom 2 and Jodhaa Akbar. Bhansali invites you to take a glimpse at their private world, Aishwarya in the role of a nurse bathing Ethan, the actress casually lighting a cigarette in an open-topped car, before coughing and choking, and abandoning all attempts at playing it cool.
The tone is dark, almost Black, as the story unfolds against a backdrop of Goa, presented in a new avatar to usual Hindi film fare. Stormy seas replaces pristine sands, and an unkempt Roshan wading into the water is a world away from choreographed, foreign-dancer-filled frames.
