The repeated references to the Filmfare statuette as “the black lady” makes me think that this is probably the only time when a lady is allowed to be “black” in Hindi films, and that too, to be coveted as an honor to aspire for.

Hi Satyam:
Personally I would have never put up this post or any post on ‘Filmfare awards’ here. Amitjis family was humiliated and Times group is not coming up a public apology in spite of many calls from Amitji himself. Amitji himself did not choose to attend the award function. The least we can do is, not to have links of the award function from here. Of course people can go to this site from many other sources, but the least we should not have reference here.
Anyways it is my personal thoughts, you run the blog and I completely take whatever stand you take.

While I think the Filmfare awards are a joke (as are the other Bollywood awards), I don’t think the Bachchans’ tiff with the Timesgroup is reason enough to not have this post here. Satyam keeps saying that this is not a Bachchan blog, and that all stars are equally represented here. Just from that point of view alone, this post should remain, since the Filmfare awards are considered prestigious within the industry.
If we are to follow your proscription, then there shouldn’t be any posting of articles from Mumbai Mirror or Times of India about anyone or on any topic whatsoever. Does that make sense to you?
I also don’t see how the Bachchans’ family was “humiliated.” So the MM published a stupid article about Aishwarya, as they do about everybody. Good for her that she’s suing them if she’s offended, but otherwise, the article doesn’t deserve so much importance. it’s no worse than the BS that’s regularly published about everybody in the industry, and that apparently even people here are willing to believe, as long as it doesn’t concern the Bachchans.
February 28, 2010 at 3:18 AM
I agree this is beyond Amitji’s blog. I also do not intend to block any Times group articles. Just a show as solidarity for Amitji since he chose to give it pass due what happened to him, felt we could follow suite.
Maybe “humiliated” was not a better word that I used in this context. Maybe I should have used disrescept. Agreed MM publish lot BS on many other people from industry and most are not willing to belive it.If Amitiji himself had ignored this, it could not have been such a deal at all.Infact as I none of the media also mentions about this. Fair enough. But what was bad from the Times group is to publish the letter from Aish without the last and important paragraph in it. If you are following this in Amitji’s blog and have seen that letter you can understand what I mean. That was not fair on their part. And also Amitji spoke to different people in Times group for a public apology on this issue. This should respect a Man of his Stature. That hurts me more.
February 28, 2010 at 3:27 AM
Wrong. Before Amitabh even mentioned the issue on his blog, it had been picked up and reported everywhere as factual by legitimate newspapers and entertainment TV shows. That is when he got pissed off.
February 28, 2010 at 4:13 AM
i agree with tyler here..the thing is dat even though it was reported by a tabloid ..but still it was picked up by all major newspapers,,channels nd websites nd was reported as d truth!! look SM..its not abt. d bachchans or nething..its just dat u cant publish something so personal,,so private abt. a woman nd dat too falsely!! u cant fabricte news abt. a person’s ill health nd literally hinting at someone’s inability 2 bear a child!! also..this also hurts ppl who actually suffer frm stomach tuberculosis..its not dat ash has not been declared preggers before..she took all of dat..its just dat this time they have gone too far!! my sister read this news on yahoo nd actually believed it nd was discussing d issue with me wen i told her its false!! most ppl of dis country still believe wat d media says..nd sometimes its important to stand up nd speak 4 urself!!
February 28, 2010 at 5:59 AM
I was only talking about whether or not this post about Filmfare awards should be here or not. Regarding Aishwarya, I already said good for her for suing MM.
I don’t read Bachchan’s blog, so I read the article about Aish in the Times of India. I read it, said, “How stupid!” and passed on. But, if all other papers and TV channels repeated the report, why aren’t the Bachchans suing them, too?
February 28, 2010 at 6:28 AM
I have seen Aishwarya’s letter, I think even in TOI itself. By the last paragraph, do you mean the statements about the “girl child”? I certainly read that.
February 28, 2010 at 7:47 AM
no..d last line stated dat the newspaper “should offer a full retraction and apology” to aishwarya which wasnt printed by d paper!! nd talkin abt suing all tv channels nd websites..dat is not plausible coz there r about 100 news channels nd more than a 1000 websites (entertainment sites) which carried this news..so obviously they will only sue d source from where it ORIGINATED!!
u understood d fact that this news was not true nd termed it as “stupid”..but believe u me..there r a lot of ppl out there who actually believed this..my sister is an example!! i think d decision they took was perfectly fine nd i can see y a lady can actually be “humiliated” nd “hurt” by reading such bull crap abt. her!!
neways..i m perfectly fine with having d filmfare post here coz d site should cover all stars nd shouldnt be biased 2wards neone!! so..its good dat dis post is here!!
February 28, 2010 at 12:24 AM
I am with Rajesh. Lets delete this bs award post.
February 28, 2010 at 1:53 AM
with due respect to BIG B’s performance in PA – the award shd. go to Aamir – but filmfare will never do that – isn’t it? anyways, aamir’s biggest award is love of people and he got that with 200 cr. nett….
February 28, 2010 at 4:20 AM
@ ideaunique–Sad that Aamir will never get any popular Bollywood award, even when he desrves it. And really, it’s his own fault–his continuous action of cutting nose to spite face. And he is now in the sorry position where he cannot win either way–is he starts accepting the awards he will be termed a hypocrite and somebody who cannot take a stand. But neither is his stance, not accepting or acknoledging any popular award, completely tenable–it’s simply impossible for even a die hard AK fan to defend his stupidly stubborn stand.
He certainly deserves one of the many best actor awards being given out by various groups. To carry off at age 44, successfully, a role of a charcter less than half his age–the man surely deserves his nominations and an award or two. But no organization will waste an award on a person who does not acknowledge or respect the awards.
In a way he is like OP Nayyar. The man is still loved and respected by fans, his amazing zingy music still evergreen. But last year when he died, few Bollywoodians bothered to talk about him. There were a few articles, but overall, very few tributes to this great self-taught musician.
I hope Aamir is not treated like poor OP Nayyar saab.
February 28, 2010 at 4:36 AM
Not a comparison with Aamir, but Gandhi never won a Nobel. I am not sure whose loss?
February 28, 2010 at 5:01 AM
OP Nayyar was gr8 no doubt – but it is a stupidity on the part of these award organizers to overlook the public opinion – and what better way than B.O. to look at the public opinion? bigger joke is that 3i wind best film, raju wins the best director but aamir doesn’t win….ha….these people don’t miss an opportunity to insult aamir – and aamir shd. never attend these functions, he doesn’t need them…
February 28, 2010 at 5:26 AM
arrey bhaiyya..agar sirf box office dekhte toh katrina aur deepika ko naajaane kitne award mil chuke hote!! eesshh..but honestly..i respect aamir 4 his stand of not attending these stupid meaningless award functions nd keep his “prestige” nd “credibility” thing going!! ppl have tremendous amount of faith in himnd his credibility 2 deliver a good film is unparalleled!! so dats d biggest reward in my opinion!! even ajay devgan hardly attends any award function..there r ppl who want 2 keep themselves away frm frivolity..nd dat might make them a little “boring”..but “respected” they will always be!!
February 28, 2010 at 4:25 AM
What was done to Aishwarya–her health discussed publicly–was a terrible thing. I am glad that Aish and Bachchan family took the stand they did.
At times the media crosses all limits. And , the worst part is that many people actually believe anything written in the media, even tabloid reports.
February 28, 2010 at 4:59 AM
Havent seen firaaq- from what i have heard about the theme-a typical film which would be awarded an india-even if some of the jury hae not even seen it-something nadita das herself confessed at star awards…….films like firaaq and parzania will be “head-hunted” for awards, irrespective of the merits of the film. incidentally, firaaq looks a v unidimensional biased persepective; plus there is something irritating about nandita das’s “look at my work” agenda-anyhow, this is a sureshot theme for a newbie to get loads of awards…..maybe someone who has ACTUALLY seen it, may enlighten us..
February 28, 2010 at 5:14 AM
regarding the ab-filmfare issue:absolutelly disgusting journalism. good of ab to finally put his foot down.
if a person of ab’s stature and with his current relevance (best actor award in the SAME award function) culd not elicit a written apology inspite of assurances, then who can…
suspec some foul play-some anti ab people privately puttng their tacit support behind filmfare-otherwise they cannot be so obstinate.
if not opposed now, what will be next..morphed pics?-right stand by ab.
As much as i love aamir and his work, no self respecting award function should award a guy who openly ridicules them……….
February 28, 2010 at 5:28 AM
“these people don’t miss an opportunity to insult aamir – and aamir shd. never attend these functions, he doesn’t need them…”-dont agree entirely ideaunique.
it was aamir who stopped going to award functions to begin with. so much so that if someone thinks of awarding him, they are sure he will NOT be there to receive it and they will be snubbed.
dont think aamir is the one insulted here!
regarding ammir not needing the award–do u think ab or ar rahman need these ff, star awards etc.
ar rahman AFTER receiving oscars(the so called ultimatefantasy of aamir) comes to humbly receives these awards. nobody is or should behave above the system. all this is short term and times change….
it is a bit childish, thats it-(taking nothing away from aamirs excellent work)
February 28, 2010 at 6:17 AM
I’m outraged at these, Kaminey only got one award, wile being agruably the best film of last year!
Ranbir for Critics award?!? Pah, his act as Sid in WUS won’t be remembered but Charlie and Guddu are sure to go down in history, I’m wondering how much Rishi and Neetu bribed the jury…
I can understand Aamir’s stance and I get a feeling id these awards don’t start appreciating the real successes, others will follow in his footsteps.
Sholay only got one award for best editing at Filmfare and have a look at what a classic it is now! I hope the same happens to Kaminey…
February 28, 2010 at 6:19 AM
Soory about the typos, I’m fuming right now! I meant to write ‘while’ and ‘if’
February 28, 2010 at 6:25 AM
My respect for Aamir will go down several notches if he EVER attended an of these award functions. Snub them for life!!!! We all know that these awards are a joke so why bother??
February 28, 2010 at 8:03 AM
well said….i agree…..interestingly – 3i had aamir, maddy, sharman – after 3i – sharman’s TBP bombed and maddy’s teen patti bombed which had BIG B also…..:-) my point is that 3i’s huge success had lot to do with aamir’s presence and as of today – there are only 3 actors who can guarantee a BO HIT/SUPERHIT/BB – aamir, srk and hritik…no BIG B, AKKI, SALLU, RANBIR etc. can guarantee a BO success….
February 28, 2010 at 9:38 AM
Idea,
You have the knack o fbeing unintentionally funny.
February 28, 2010 at 9:38 AM
no stars can run the film on their own or presence that includes amir, srk or ritik,if that was the case then swadesh, paheli, ashoka, mangal pandey, baazi would have been block-busters..Amitabh has no concern if his flops because he is not competing with srk or amir khan…he will go on till goes completly…Amitabh is still there and getting loads of work unlike jeetendra, shatru or vinod khanna.
March 1, 2010 at 1:21 PM
well neither kank, billu barber, mnik and some dulha movie, can’t even remember the name did well in india…so i’d take him out that list….
February 28, 2010 at 6:39 AM
“But, if all other papers and TV channels repeated the report, why aren’t the Bachchans suing them, too?”-a surprisingly naive comment, sm.
With all due respects-if someone slaps you without a reason in front of hundreds others others who remain silent and just quietly enjoy the scene-will u get back at the slappers or the hundred others.
“as long as it doesn’t concern the Bachchans.”
sm-although u r trying your best NOT to show yuor bias, it is definitely coming through. there is a difference between “things been written about everybody” and questioning someones fertility in print.
has someone asked y for eg-shabana azzmi not conceived till now?
saw another link with mumbimirror reference. there is definitely some targetting going around here-

February 28, 2010 at 8:05 AM
i think that Bachchans were just looking for an excuse to start avoiding these functions because every award function literally worship them and fall at their feets….but the paying public is not giving their films that kind of adulation and i think they realize that it is good work which will win public’s hearts and not these bogus awards….i wish they don’t attend any award functions…
February 28, 2010 at 8:36 AM
ha ha..idea..u r funny!! good one!! love ur sense of humor!!
February 28, 2010 at 9:10 AM
ideaunique, just think Amitabh has won “BEST ACTOR” AWARD FOR PAA WHICH WAS SUPER-HIT AND WAS NOT LONG AGO IF YOU KEEP YOUR MEMORY ALIVE
February 28, 2010 at 9:59 AM
ideaunique, “look” Amitabh won the best actor award, wonder why amir khan or srk did not win that award,if that what you have said which are B.O. draw…LOL..
February 28, 2010 at 7:32 AM
Bollywood legend wins best actor at awards despite boycott
February 28, 2010 at 9:43 AM
I personally do not have a problem with posting this here as long as we do not lose sight of the problem with MM.
Hope Big B sticks to his guns. SRK/Amir fans need to cool down. Ofcourse Big B’sBO pull has waned but his star still shines bright. At his age, they should be thankful if their stars can walk on their own feet and attend FF awards, let alone win it.
February 28, 2010 at 10:00 AM
SRK’s twitters to Abhishek:
“had nice time at filmfare..but my firend without u and the wonderful family it just couldnt become great for me. love u
missed u…tell dad, mom and aish. love u very much.”
February 28, 2010 at 10:01 AM
The fact that Satyam was the strong proponent of boycotting ‘Filmfare’ by bachchans can’t be denied. And that could have factored in for AB’s action. He also appealed to boycott Times publication but apparently its only for others. Its quite evident that such and other issues/debates are merely a living room issues/debates. In reality it doesn’t touch anyone even though one displays tremendous concern and emotion over it.
Even that so called film fraternity who has been and will be victimized and wounded by media don’t extend their public support to Bachchans.
February 28, 2010 at 10:18 AM
Doubt what I said, on numerous occasion admittedly, had anything to do with it! Not sure what you’re referring to with ‘Times’. Don’t believe I ever said anything about TOI. Could have forgotten though. In this instance I was more focused on MM though I did bring the fact that Filmfare had printed the story to his attention (not to say he wouldn’t have discovered it anyway).
February 28, 2010 at 10:59 AM
I dontknow how many watched Lift Kara De with AB.
Inthat episode Karan told a story. After Paa’s premiere he went with SRK to his place and SRK seemed kind of lost. The he said to his Aryan – ‘Beta, your Dad is nothing. There is no one close to Ammitji. I still have a very long way to go’. I dont know if SRK was exaggerating or Karan embellished it but I found it touching.
February 28, 2010 at 12:01 PM
I saw that episode and I do think that story is right because I doubt anyone would just invent such a specific story. Bachchan himself added that SRK was very moved after the premiere and said he’d speak to him later when he didn’t have so many other people surrounding him and did in fact when Bachchan was on his way back.
February 28, 2010 at 12:26 PM
The kind of adulation he enjoys amongst is fan is wondrous.
One of them has been walking around without shoes for 15 years and refusing to wear them till Amitabh graced his house!
Which other star’s fans would inspire such affection?
Tho I did hear of one SRK fan who didnt wear his panties for a week!
February 28, 2010 at 12:15 PM
The idea of not discussing filmfare awards on here out of some strange sense of loyalty towards the Bachchans is ludicrous.
Obv the awards r a joke nowadays but that’s a seperate matter. This year I find funniest the fact that there’s seperate male and female awards for best debut director!!! lol
February 28, 2010 at 12:58 PM
“This year I find funniest the fact that there’s seperate male and female awards for best debut director!!! lol”
The only thing i like in indian award functions except the show is that everyone have to win something. And they make sure they do so
February 28, 2010 at 7:14 PM
“This year I find funniest the fact that there’s seperate male and female awards for best debut director!!! lol”-AGREE.
That highlights all things BAD about these awards.
Every family who comes to the functuion should be compensated/ sent back with some return gift.
Zoya akhtar was the one accomodated here. for eg Abhishek has also been the recipient of many such “gift ” awards like best jodi, style icon etc etc. SRK always wins one of these “newly coined term” awards on his OFF years. I guess, It is sacrilege to send him back home without ANY award. Plus, they do appear v SURPRISED on stage at having got that..so familiar…lol
March 1, 2010 at 2:39 AM
Shortly, they will have best director (male), best director (female)…. ditto for best screenplay, best story, best choreography, best scene;
These awards are getting to be a big joke year after year.
March 1, 2010 at 6:45 AM
ARR’s 25th filmfare award?! Wake me up before you go go!!
SRK twitters Abhishek about Filmfares – but he didn’t give away any awards. Surprise! And, he didn’t receive any?! Surprise!
It’s so ludicrous that from now on, they’ll have popular and critic awards for all categories and then specials just to keep all industry happy!
March 2, 2010 at 11:05 AM
wow ! they can have categories like Best Laugh, Best Cry, Best shout, Best & worst Body etc etc for both male & female category and one special one too. That way no one- i mean literally one one go out empty handed……Lol…….No cry babies,no frowning,no sulking ever would be seen as all get a one to play with. All Bwood Gods and Goddesses with nothing but bright and shiny SMILES !!!! wow !! what a pretty sight would that be !! right !!?? Right !!!…..lol….
