Salman-Asin in Anees Bazmee’s remake of Telugu Ready
LINK

Anees Bazmee has just flown off to Canada for Thank You, toplining Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Suneil Shetty, Irrfan Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Celina Jaitley and Rimmi Sen. He’ll be back in a month’s time and in June will get started on the Asin-Salman Khan starrer, Ready.
“The first schedule will probably be in Mumbai. We’ll be putting up a lavish set and doing a lot of outdoor shots too. In August, when it rains, we’ll move indoors. Then, in October, we’ll fly off for a 50-70 day schedule somewhere abroad and should be able to wrap up the film,” says the director.
Bazmee and Salman Khan shared a great rapport during the making of the blockbuster No Entry. And ever since have wanted to team up for another film. “It’s finally happened,” Bazmee exults, adding that the title is reflective of its ‘hero’ who is ready for anything… dance, action, romance and even ‘shaadi’.
Right choice lady
Khan will be wooing Asin in the film. This will be their second film together after London Dreams. Bazmee says that he didn’t see Vipul Shah’s musical but he did see Asin’s Bollywood debut, Ghajini, and several of her South films.
“I have written for a lot of films down South and I’m well acquainted with Asin’s work there. I was looking for a ‘chulbuli’ (bubbly) girl and she fit the bill perfectly,” points out Bazmee.
Given that Asin has been turning down offers from big makers including Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, how difficult was it getting her to sign on the dotted line? “It didn’t take much convincing. Ready is a big film being produced by T-Series. It’s an interesting role opposite a saleable actor. I have delivered hits like No Entry, Welcome and Singh Is Kinng in the past. There was no reason for her to refuse,” he argues.
The film is a remake of a 2008 Telugu film, Ready, featuring Ram and Genlia D’Souza. It was one of the biggest grossing Telugu films in the US and celebrated a 100- day run in Andhra Pradesh too.
Directed by Srinu Vytla, the film revolves around Chandu, a final year engineering student, who in a bid to help a friend, gets the wrong bride kidnapped and ends up falling in love with her. And while Chandu is ready for anything, convincing Pooja’s family that he is her Mr Right is no easy task.

isn’t salman too old for these types of roles?
April 13, 2010 at 5:07 PM
Yes. Salman is too old and long in the tooth to play a university or engineering student. The crux of the problem is that Salman (facially) looks exactly like a man who is almost 45 years of age! He looks every bit of his real age. Salman, SRK, Ajay Devgn, and Akshay Kumar are all in great shape, but they all indeed look like men in their 40′s which is their ages.
I indeed hope some much needed changes have been incremented into this Hindi remake because Salman as a university student as well as portraying the situations in the exact manner as the Telugu movie will be daft and not believable to say the least. Asin must be having a tough time nicking good movies in Bollywood if she chose this movie. This movie and the supposed one with John Abraham both seem ill advised on her part.

I agree. That’s my biggest reservation about this remake.
I also thought Aamir looked like a man in his 40′s in 3 Idiots. But, since he started the trend, all the other 40+ stars are following, I guess.
What it really points out to me is the dearth of younger stars with box office pull in Hindi films, in contrast to Telugu and Tamil films.

What is there in this stupid movie to remake in the first place? Still trying to deal with the news of a Kaakha Kaakha remake with John Abraham as lead. Please No!

Asin clarifies nixing biggies
Asin is celebrating Dabangg’s super success. No, she wasn’t a part of the blockbuster but is hoping Salman Khan’s recent success will rub off on their next movie, Ready, too. And it won’t go bust like their last musical, London Dreams. It is said that the 44-year-old hunk had recommended her to writer-director Anees Bazmee for the Hindi remake that was filmed in Sri Lanka.
“I had no idea,” she retorts. “I got a call from Bhushan Kumar of T-Series who’s producing the film. Since it’s a remake of a Telugu hit I knew about it and liked Anees bhai’s adaptation. So I took it on. End of the story.”
She insists that despite the action-packed title, Ready is a love story and will not be another Ghajini for her. “There’s plenty of scope to perform. Also, a film like this is important, as a commercial hit can help you reach out to a wider audience,” she reasons. For someone who moved into Bollywood with an Aamir Khan-starrer that is one of the biggest grossers ever, Asin surprisingly has only Ready in her kitty, after nixing Ashutosh Gowariker’s Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey with Abhishek Bachchan and Vipul Shah’s remake of Kakha Kakha with John Abraham. She was replaced by Deepika Padukone and Genelia D’Souza in the said two films.
AAsinsin says that she had to let both these biggies go because of date problems. “I respect Ashu sir (Gowarikar) and his wife Sunitaji, but I had already committed the dates they wanted to the Tamil film, Bodyguard,” she sighs, adding that eventually Bodyguard’s schedule was pushed ahead due to problems with hero Vijay’s dates.
Bodyguard was also responsible for her losing out on the Kakha Kakha remake. “Initially, it was to be directed by Gautam Menon who had done the original too. I’d played Maya in the Telugu version, so I know the character inside out. But then Nishikant Kamath stepped into the project and by the time he came back to me with the rewritten script, I had started shooting Bodyguard and didn’t have the dates. So Vipul, Nishi and I mutually agreed to let this pass. I didn’t refuse the film because of language or money problems as has been reported,” she reiterates.
Atul Agnihotri is producing a Hindi remake of Bodyguard with brother-in-law Salman Khan. He’s keen to sign on Katrina Kaif, but she’s reportedly too busy. If approached, will Asin take on the film given that she’s already doing the Tamil version? Asin says, “I believe Salman will start work on his Bodyguard after Ready. I can’t say anything now, we’ll cross the bridge when we reach it.”
