  1. Raavanan- A super hit in Kerala
    By Moviebuzz | Friday, 25 June , 2010, 16:06

Mani Ratnam’s Raavanan featuring Vikram, Prithviraj and Aishwarya Rai is turning out to be a super hit in Kerala. The film has taken a better opening than any recent Mammootty or Mohanlal film in the state!

From 66 screens in Kerala, the film has grossed a whopping Rs 1.67 crore, with a distributor’s share of Rs 62 lakhs in its opening week (June 18 to 24). In Ernakulam city from Shenoys and Padma the film has netted Rs 18, 65, 255, which is fantastic by any yardstick.

Also Read: Why did Mani avoid the Chennai media?

The aggressive promotions done by Vikram and Prithviraj paid off handsomely. They visited theatres screening the film in Ernakulam and mingled with the crowds who went ga-ga over them.

The collections from Hindi Raavan which opened in six screens in the state have been disappointing. Abhishek is not a star in Kerala where Bollywood stars like the Khans- Salman, Shah Rukh and Aamir, and Hrithik Roshan rules.

Says Suresh Shenoy of Shenoys Ernakulam: “Raavanan is doing extraordinary business in Kerala. People seem to like it for Vikram, Prithvi and Ash, especially the climax fight on the bridge and the stunning ending. Vikram and Prithvi visited Shenoys which was houseful. They stood near the screen and Vikram spoke in Malayalam which had the crowd in raptures. I would say their promotions helped the film as they were all over the Malayalam channels which helped the film to get a fantastic opening.”

    • Ah Kerala, you complete me.

      • by the way this is the best result for the film anywhere in India. In TN it is not doing much anywhere other than Chennai multiplexes and a few others. Even here stability is not guaranteed. It’s not like Hindi because it got a big initial so average status or something better is probably guaranteed. I hope it stays stable but in any case it is certainly not going to be the Kerala sort of result. Incidentally it’s been extremely poor in Telugu.

  2. satyam can you explain something when the first promos of raavan had come out taran had tweeted that the cost of the hindi version is 30cr,so how come after and before release all kinds of prices are being quoted

    • Geez, Salman I can tolerate but why oh why is Arbaaz in this? Perhaps I answered by own question.

      • This film is the first project of Arbaaz Khan productions, set up to see if Arbaaz can make a career out of being a producer, since his acting venture didn’t exactly pan out. However, he is still acting in this film.

    • this is perhaps d only sallu film that i m looking 4ward to..in a loong loong time..thanks to his uber awesome look in d movie..with d moustache nd all..!!

    • Doga, you might want to post this in the existing “Images from Dabangg” thread (search for “Dabangg” and it will come up).

    • What I found most depressing about this interview was that Abhinav found success as a Hindi screenwriter because he was very articulate in English. (Not to mention that they asked anyone off the street, apparently, to become a screenwriter — quite a contrast to Hollywood, which is the aspiration/inspiration for Bollywood otherwise.)

  3. dabang is that sort of film which you can only enjoy fully in single screens.. for example, watching something like Gadar in a multiplex and then at single screen would create a lot of difference

    • u r right pranay..par aaj kal single screen milte kahan hai??!!

      • haan woh bhi baat hai..
but u can watch it in paras or chanakya or sangam cinemas in south delhi :)

        • south delhi is too far from my place..dont think nowadays any movie is worth travelling so far..neways..hasn’t chanakya been torn down?! i think it has been.!!
but yeah..i did watch gadar in single screen..it was awesome..i distinctly remember ppl going ballistic over dat handpump scene..
also saw lagaan on single screen..the tension amongst d crowd during d climax was so palpable nd finally when bhuvan hits that six..the entire crowd went madd..!!
          some experiences these..!!

          • dont really know.. chanakya was torn down some time back it seemed but their were efforts to reconstruct it.. though i love the place for chinese market.. a fav hangout place!

          • yup..i believe its one of d most popular places amongst students studying in south campus..!!

  4. Top 5: ‘Raavan’ is a disaster, will entail heavy losses

  5. so we didnt have to wait for Ra1 to be a disaster .. Raavan has come sooner and given hritik a sort of consolation!

  6. Tamil Conference saves Raavanan, as pirates attack!
    By Moviebuzz | Sunday, 27 June , 2010, 11:20

The five day-holiday from June 23 to 27, thanks to the World Classical Tamil Conference in Coimbatore has come to Mani Ratnam’s Raavanan’s rescue.

Raavanan took a bumper opening when it released on June 18 in Chennai city and suburbs, Coimbatore city but started wobbling on Monday and Tuesday. However thanks to the five day holiday season it picked up very well on Wednesday and is doing steady business over the weekend.

Says a well known trade analyst: “Mani Ratnam has to thank the state government who announced the five-day holiday due to Tamil Conference, which really pepped up Raavanan collections. The film which carries mixed reports will now be saved to a certain extent and the Tamil version will do better business than Hindi and Telugu versions put together.”

Meanwhile Suhasini Mani Ratnam, the director’s wife and the movie’s dialogue writer met Chennai City Police Commissioner T. Rajendran and complained that the pirated version of Raavanan are doing the rounds in Tamil Nadu. The pirated CD’s of the film first surfaced in Pondicherry, a haven for Tamil film pirates. Later speaking to newsmen Suhasini said: “ We have asked the police to stop the sales of pirated CD’s of the film coming from neighboring states. We have managed to block some of the websites which had illegally uploaded the movie.”

  7. close to 29 crores in week 1 for Raavan according to IBOS:

    http://ibosnetwork.com/

given how ruthlessly they’ve ripped the film and Abhishek on ideological grounds they would scarcely be kind on it otherwise! They’ve rated it ‘disaster’.

Interestingly there wasn’t a BoC report on the numbers this time. Taran and BOI of course had the 23-24 crore number.

  8. ‘Toy Story 3′ Charms Again, Sandler Doesn’t Grow, Cruise Capsizes

    http://boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=2838&p=.htm

    • Incidentally I saw Toy Story this weekend. What a gem.

      • How would you compare it to the other two? I liked both.

        • I think it’s easily better than the second, funnier too, and the first will always have the edge for being the first but this one I actually found more affecting and perhaps even more thrilling than its predecessors for obvious reasons given its themes of growing out of childhood, the possible “extinction” of toys and other markers of that phase in one’s life.

I’m not ashamed to admit I teared up at the end! Sappy, maybe, but totally earned.

It’s been said to death but Pixar shames every studio in Hollywood with every new release.

Also the short that precedes Toy Story 3 – another gem called “Day and Night” – is just exquisite. The shorts, of course, are one of the great pleasures of attending a Pixar work.

          • I should check it out.. thanks..

          • TheCoolDude Says:

Yes an absolute gem though I would not rate it higher then 1st or even 2nd. Toy Story 2 is my all time fav. Pixar movie. Least fav. is Cars. Just never connected emotionally with this one.

      • Good to hear GF; I’m always wary of Part 3s…

        • TheCoolDude Says:

There have been some good 3rds like Last Crusade and Die Hard with a Vengence…and some turds like Terminator 3 and Jurassic Park 3.

    Box Office Measures Star Power
    By BROOKS BARNES

LOS ANGELES — The weekend box office delivered very different results for three A-list stars, as Adam Sandler hit another home run in “Grown Ups,” and Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz whiffed in “Knight and Day.”

The No. 1 movie in North American theaters was Disney-Pixar’s “Toy Story 3,” which sold about $59 million in its second weekend for a new domestic total of $227 million, according to Hollywood.com, which compiles ticketing statistics. But the movie capital’s focus was on the battle of the box office all-stars — or at least what’s left of them.

“Grown Ups,” a Sony Pictures Entertainment release, stars Mr. Sandler and a small armada of other funnymen, including David Spade, Kevin James, Rob Schneider and Chris Rock. The comedy, estimated to cost about $70 million to produce, sold about $41 million in tickets, placing second for the weekend and extending Mr. Sandler’s consistent run in goofball pictures.

Mr. Cruise and Ms. Diaz, co-starring in “Knight and Day,” weren’t as lucky. That $107 million action comedy, released by 20th Century Fox, was third with about $20.5 million. The result appeared to seal Mr. Cruise’s worst summer debut in nearly two decades. (His “Far and Away” opened to $16 million, when adjusting for inflation, in late May of 1992.)

Fox seemed relieved “Knight and Day” did as well as it did.

“We are really happy with this number,” said Chris Aronson, the studio’s senior vice president for domestic distribution. Citing a sales uptick from Friday to Saturday, Mr. Aronson added, “The way the movie is playing is indicative of the great word-of-mouth that we always knew it would have with adult audiences.”

Slamming Mr. Cruise has almost become a cottage industry in the media, particularly online, following his erratic public appearances in recent years. “Knight and Day” will surely add fresh fodder.

But there is a lot of blame to go around. Ms. Diaz, whose live-action track record has been shaky of late, didn’t bring out her usual young audience in great numbers. Fox’s marketing was disjointed at best. Some industry veterans point to an overly developed script, which was put through endless rewrites.

Fox hopes adult moviegoers, who often stay home on opening weekend, will ultimately power “Knight and Day” to a solid total. Overseas markets, where Mr. Cruise remains a formidable draw, will also be crucial; in limited release internationally the picture took in $12.6 million.

The studio opened “Knight and Day” on Wednesday after it became clear that it was in trouble. The picture’s five-day total was about $28 million.

For the weekend Sony’s “Karate Kid” remake was fourth with about $15.4 million for a new total of about $135.6 million. “The A-Team” (Fox) was fifth with $6 million ($62.8 million total).

    • ideaunique Says:

1st July’10 – MNS’s The Last Airbender seems set to sweep the B.O.

    • I like Cruise but Knight and Day didn’t interest me enough to want to see it. I don’t think its totally fair to blame Cruise for it not opening well.

      • TheCoolDude Says:

I believe Cruise is THE one to blame. Before his Opera couch jumping days, this type of movie would have openend with at least 50M. He really needs to figure out how to get back because at 47, he is not really a young pup.

  10. Chennai Box-office- June 25 to 27
    Tuesday, 29 June , 2010, 10:45

Mani Ratnam will have to thank the Tamil Nadu government for the five day holidays that helped his Raavanan stay afloat at the number one position.

The film, due to the curiosity it has generated, has netted Rs 81 lakhs in its second weekend, a marginal Rs 9 lakh drop from its opening weekend.

At number two is Singam, which also benefited due to the sudden holidays. In the third place, is Kalavani, which thanks to positive reviews took a decent opening.

The Karate Kid stands at number four and is being favoured by family audiences. And in the fifth position is the Hindi Raavan, which is holding on well in Chennai multiplexes.

    http://satyamshot.wordpress.com/2010/06/24/raavan-rajneeti-ongoing-more-box-office-for-pinheads/

    • more or less as I expected it to be here.. because of the initial the film got to safety… they’re calling it average which seems about right..

ironically the Hindi one is holding up well precisely where the Tamil version is also playing! and of course there was an earlier report about Raavanan being a superhit in Kerala. These ‘linguistic cousins’ (Kerala and TN) are the only two in India to have shown some taste on this film!

Ha, the budget has now gone upto 130 crores here! Keep it coming!

Incidentally I think sify’s reporting is being unkind to Vikram. The film had a very good opening, it then dropped but did not crash or anythiing. Keeping somewhat stable at the lower end which is why ‘average’ is overall a fair rating. But films that are completely rejected cannot exactly be saved by extra holidays. Also the Hindi version is also stable there according to them which suggests some basic acceptance by segments of the audience.

  11. Indian Express:

    Bollywood box office burnout

Bigger the hype, bigger is the disappointment of audience and this seemed to be the general trend at the Box Office in the first half of 2010 as several biggies namely ‘Kites’, ‘Raavan’ and ‘Veer’ fared miserably.

While 125 movies were released in the last six months, only Prakash Jha’s ‘Raajneeti’ was declared a blockbuster with a net gross of over Rs 77 crore.

Trade analyst Amod Mehra feels ‘Raajneeti’ worked because of the casting of Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif in political drama.

“Many people underestimated Ranbir’s charisma. It is the youth which matter at the Box Office as an audience. If not for these two, the youngsters would not have gone to see a political film. Besides, the film had an interesting ensemble cast and was mounted well,” he said.

Mehra said makers of ‘Kites’ and ‘Raavan’ have suffered losses of over Rs 100 crores as these two movies proved to be major disasters, only ‘Houseful’ and ‘Love Sex and Dhoka’ have broken even.

“Rest movies were all flops. The industry has suffered losses to the tune of Rs 450 to Rs 500 crores in the first half,” he said.

He said ‘My Name is Khan’, ‘Ishqiya’ and ‘Athithee Tum Kab Jaoge’ were somewhat appreciated but eventually lost money at the Box Office in totality.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said the distributors have incurred losses of over Rs 200 crore due to the failure of MNIK, ‘Ishqiya’ and ‘Athithee Tum Kab Jaoge’.

Apart from ‘Raajneeti’, MNIK, ‘Ishqiya’, ‘Love Sex aur Dokha’, ‘Athiti Tum Kab Jaoge’, ‘Houseful’ and ‘Badmash Company’ have done well at the Box Office, said Adarsh.

Salman Khan’s ‘Veer’, the first film to be released in 2010 had a huge task of living up to the euphoria of Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’ which was creating waves at that time.

However, the period drama-cum-love story of a Pindari soldier played by Salman fighting against the British did not find takers among the audience.

The film was hyped as the story was written by Salman and the actor even participated in a race at Mahalaxmi race course to promote the film.

However, Shah Rukh Khan’s MNIK benefited from the massive hype. The superstar’s comments that he regretted the absence of Pakistani cricketers in IPL season 3 on the eve of the film’s release resulted in Shiv Sena declaring that it would not allow the movie’s release.

Khan, who also owns the Kolkata Knightriders IPL cricket team, was abroad promoting the film and he stuck to his guns and refused to apologise to the Thackerays.

The entire police machinery was involved in protecting the theatres where the film was screened. The distributors and exhibitors decided to release the film in phases on the first day.

According to website boxofficeindia, MNIK has earned 19 million USD from overseas collections alone.

Hrithik Roshan-starrer ‘Kites’ had its fair share of controversies with Mexican actress Barbara Mori making her Bollywood debut and the alleged affair of the lead pair resulting in the actor’s wife Suzzanne leaving their house.

Even intimate scenes of Hrithik and Barbara were put up on the internet.

Adarsh said audiences these days look for the right content and are not concerned about any particular genre.

Even ‘Raavan’ got lot of attention because it marked the coming together of Abhishek Bachchan and ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam
after delivering two critically acclaimed movies like ‘Yuva’ and ‘Guru’ and the added bonus was that the movie also featured Aishwarya Rai and Tamil superstar Vikram.

However, the concept suggesting that there can be a Raavan within Ram and Ram in Raavan did not gel well with the audience. The film was hugely criticised and negative reviews kept the audience away from the theatres. Only the cinematography and fresh locations came in for praise.

The first half might not have been great but Adarsh is hopeful that Bollywood has a lot to look forward too in the second half of 2010.

July releases ‘I hate Luv Stories’, ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbai’ and ‘Khatta Meetha’ look promising. Anil Kapoor’s Sonam-Abhay Deol starrer ‘Aisha’ is slated for an August release.

With the success of ‘Housefull’ under his belt, Akshay Kumar will have maximum releases in the later half of the year like ‘Tees Maar Khan’, ‘Action Replayy’, ‘Patiala House’ and ‘Khatta Meetha’.

    • check out what he says on Run.. about being very satisfied with the box office and so on..

      • ideaunique Says:

“check out what he says on Run.. about being very satisfied with the box office and so on..” if u ask him he will say the same abt. ROOP KI RAANI…..but i remember reading that once WANTED became a hit, he came out of lot of debts…..so u know what he is talking…:-)

        • that’s not really true.. he’s talked about his flops quite honestly in the past and no one would say that about Roop ki Rani! On Run I had read about this even at the time that the film had done decently enough and better in the smaller centers where it was being given relatively instant reruns. Incidentally on the debts he does mention here that he’s still paying them. He had very many remake flops for years. On Run he’s more or less calling it a commission earner.

    • good interview overall..

  12. So we have 3 “Young Guns” – Hrithik,Ranbir and Abhishek vying for the next Numbero Uno position, being pushed by various parties. Fair Enough.

Lets see 5 years down where we are at.

And i guess all should be given some time to be fair.

And neither should anyone of them be crowned abruptly with only 1-2 success etc.

  13. Mansi, There are other “young guns” like Shahid/Imran but they are not getting the required “push” for one many reason, thus not in the picture as of yet, but lets see in the future.

Actually there is one Emraan Hashmi too, but seems like only i am pushing him, :) , seriously his success rate is too good!

    • ohh..dont worry..u nd the bhatts will definitely keep emraan hashmi floating!!
imraan khan is pure non-sense to me tbh..expressionless nd talentless..!! tries too hard to be charming…shahid though given d “right” roles can deliver a good performance..but him becoming n0. 1 looks tough!! his next film mausam looks extremely intriguing!!
neways..i just wonder that all of us spend so much time thinking abt. no 1 nd whos d king?! etc.. but do these stars even care abt. all this?! i mean sure they want theair films 2 bcome hits nd blockbusters..but all this number game is surely just in ppl’s heads!!

  14. Hmm, i think some do, some dont, let see.

The one’s who do care as of now:

    Shahrukh Khan
    Aamir Khan

The ones who dont as of now:

    Abhishek Bachchan
    Salman Khan
    Ajay Devgn

The ones even i dont know if they do or not,

    Hrithik Roshan
    Akshay Kumar

I think if nothing the results are pretty self evident, :)

  15. Remember seeing an old interview of Aamir Khan(~1991-92).

    His statements:

“There are stars and then there is Amitabh, i want to be like him”

Also he knew all about how Salman was doing at that point(5-6 success etc), SRK has not yet entered the scene.

  16. Half yearly Report Card. 5/58
    IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, June 30, 2010]

Six months have passed this year and Kollywood is ready for the half yearly evaluation. A lot of water has flown down the Kollywood River. Expectations going sour, doubtful starters winning the race it all happened in the past six months.

January started with much expectation as one of the much expected and much delayed film ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ releasing on Pongal day. The very first day of the year had three releases but they weren’t the harbingers of hope. Pugaipadam, Nil Kavani Ennai Kadhali and Thinichal opened on the first day of the year with much publicity but the advertisements weren’t enough to life up the film.

All eyes were on Pongal day which saw only four releases. Brothers were pitted against each other with ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ and ‘Kutty’. But both the brothers lost the race. In fact there was no winner at all. Expectations turned out to be a burden and Selvaraghavan was named confusing director for his ‘AO’. The fate of the film even denied credits for the superlative performances of Remma Sen and Parthiban. ‘Kutty’ was fresh but it wasn’t a Dhanush film and failed for having spiced up with too much Telugu flavor in the Tamil version. The other two Pongal films ‘Naanayam’ and ‘Porkkalam’ were different but didn’t have the star value to make it. ‘Naanayam’ was sweet, suave and savvy but still failed.

The other big day in January was not the Republic Day but January 29. Goa, Thamizh Padam, Jaggubai, Kathai and Dhairiyam. ‘Goa’ was a mixed wine and the debate is still on. But the dark horse ‘Thamizh Padam’ was a hit and a massive hit. It deserved the success for introducing the genre spoof in a gravely polarized Tamil market. Kudos to the producer and director. ‘Jaggubai’ was in news more for it’s release on the internet even while it was in the labs. The proven successful duo of Sarath Kumar and K S Ravikumar sadly couldn’t make it this time.

February had only four releases in the whole month and the month belonged to Gautham Menon’s ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvayaa’. The silky soft romance blew away all competitors including Vishal’s ‘Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai’ and Sreekanth’s ‘Rasikkum Seemane’ that were released in February.

March saw the pouring of all that were delayed or postponed for ostensible reasons. Every body wanted to catch in the summer holidays. The twelve releases of the month were assorted. From stars to starlets to new faces the month had variety. From outright commercials like Jeeva’s ‘Kacheri Aarambam’ and Bharath’s ‘Thambikku Intha Ooru’ to offbeat ‘Aval Peyar Thamizharasi’ and ‘Karunai’ to fresh ‘Mundhinam Parthene’ and ‘Yadhumagi’, the month of March had a variety. But… but ‘Angadi Theru’ releasing at the end took all the cake and is still going strong. The Vasanthabalan film managed the rare act of striking a chord with both the masses and critics. Called a human film ‘Angadi Theru’ will cross 100 days in a couple of day.

April was a kind of significant month of the first half of this year. It started with Lingusamy’s ‘Paiyaa’ and ended with Vijay’s ‘Sura’. Both became diagonally opposite at the box office. ‘Paiyaa’ reiterated the stardom of Karthi and ‘Sura’ questioned the box office power of Vijay. All the films in between these two in April were sandwiched including the legendary star cast ‘Rettaisuzhi’. Some blamed it on the IPL Cricket matches between March 12 and April 25 for the poor show of films.

All those who feared the killer bite of ‘Sura’ bravely showed up in May. Thirteen films were released in May and Suriya’s ‘Singam’ ruled the roost. The other one to make a decent outing was ‘Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam’. The message here is even the summer holidays weren’t attractive to film makers which is a dangerous signal to the Tamil film industry.

The last month of the first half June also wasn’t a great shake. Other than the most anticipated film of the year ‘Raavanan’ the month had ten other releases. ‘Raavanan’ took a massive opening thanks to the hype and expectations created around it. The high run continued and ‘Ravaanan’ remained on top with the help of unexpected holidays for the Tamil conference.

Of the 58 films released only five were unanimous super hits. That is not even ten percent success. And all the five winners were very different from each other. ‘Thamizh Padam’ is a spoof. ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’ is a romance. ‘Angadi Theru’ is a reality. ‘Paiyaa’ is a road. And ‘Singam’ is a spicy hot masala. So you can’t even say people like only a particular kind of film. Much expected films backed by big names like ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ and ‘Raavanan’ did not elicit the desired response.

On the whole the first half yearly report card of Kollywood has very little to cheer but a lot of introspect. Wishing a happy second half!

    • If Raavanan had a huge start and good follow through, why is there a tinge of disappointment here?

On a sidenote, I have to say that the silver lining with the commercial failure of Raavan is that it’ll probably mean an expedited DVD release! Feel terrible saying that, but hey…

      • Because the Tamil media continues to believe it doesn’t have legs and has been ‘rescued’ by the holiday. I am skeptical as to the extent to which this can happen with a completely rejected film but I have had it confirmed independently that the film isn’t doing anything much anywhere other than multiplexes. Because the TN industry isn’t run just on the basis of the latter the media might be reflecting this. On the other hand if news of the Hindi holding up well in Chennai is true it might well be the case that the film (Tamil and Hindi) has been accepted in the multiplexes. This certainly isn’t true anywhere else but Kerala where the Tamil is doing extremely well.

  17. I loooved Toy story 3.. its stunning.
heartwarming to see pixar coming up with classics almost all the time.. the pixar ones i have watched are toy story 1,2,3, finding nemo, wall e, up and loved all of them..
haven’t watched Monsters Inc. and Cars.. so dunno how they are.

and yes, like Gf mentioned, even I had tears at the end of Toy Story 3.. how these people extract these feelings out of you through a bunch of toys is incredibe!

    • Kjo’s already got the media support of his film on twitter. What a con it all is.

  20. By Filmicafe.com, 30 June 2010

The buzz: I Hate Luv Storys or IHLS as it known in short is the latest release from the Dharma Productions stable. The fresh pairing of Sonam – Imran, new director at helm – Punit Malhtora, buzzing tracks by duo Vishal – Shekhar and tickling promos have peaked audiences curiosity for the film.

The plot: Girl loves love stories, Boy hates them.
Girl loves Boy, Boy doesn’t love back.
Boy loves Girl, Girl doesn’t love back.
Do Girl and Boy write their own love story?

The backdrop of the film is novel. The lead actor and actress play assistant director (Jay played by Imran) and art director (Simran played by Sonam) adding a newness and uniqueness to the film.

The good: Sonam looks angelic in what definitely is her best act to date. The actress delivers confidently in the first half of the film. Her character quietens down in the second half as the tale switches lanes and focuses on Imran’s ‘izhaar and iqraar’ of pyaar. Imran fits the bill as the causal stud and looking his fittest and most heroic yet.

The picturesque locations of New Zealand in the second half of the film are captivating. The soundtrack is easy on the ears and songs that may not have initially been automatic favourites are sure to catch on once audiences see them on screen, such as Bahara and Sadka.

Manish Malhotra’s styling of the lead pair is sure to set trends in the upcoming months with Sonam’s chiffon saris and Imran’s printed tees.

Special mention must be made to Kavin Dave known for his work in the television series ‘Rishta.com.’ He plays Imran’s friend and confidant and is the film’s scene stealer with his witty banter and amusingly hilarious t-shirts.

The Ummm…: The film moves simultaneously on two tracks. One is the Sonam – Imran love story and the other a behind-the-scenes perspective on the filmy duniya. This is where the film flatters as it isn’t able to fully convey both aspects well.

The narrative of the film doesn’t demonstrate a progression in Jay and Simran’s love-hate, hate-love, love-love story.

The verdict: I Hate Luv Storys is a likeable and enjoyable summer flick infused with freshness, comedy and romance. It’s an honest attempt to pay homage to the all-time classic love stories, although overall the film itself falls short of being one. It’s a dekho from us thanks to the fun and fresh factor!
