This looks like a “Festival Special” Issue, which might host those timeless snaps and wonderful articles. Can you please take some effort in scanning the contents of this particular issue and post them ? Ofcourse, if you have the magazine with you in paper.
You may have seen it already but if not, a good soul on youtube uploaded Shyam Benegal’s great documentary on Ray that he did made in the 80s. It’s in 13 parts. Here’s the link to the first.
the thing i like MOST about ray is his unabashed confidence in his skill and ability–there is not even a shred of apologism of being an indian nor any inferiority complex that inflicts many other indian makers esp those going to “foreign festivals”. even in this pic that attitude is evident from the body language.
he does not put pressure on himself to conform to the western likings or sensibilities–he did his stuff the way he could and the rest followed.
similar other makers need to show this conviction rather than folliwing trends eg now the slumdog pseudogreat projects herd mentaility.
Besides the point, when it comes to the sheer assessment of rays films, i personally dont exactly share his tastes and style…

“To have not seen the films of Ray is to have lived in the world without ever having seen the moon and the sun.”.
