john abraham seems to be attempting his own poor mans aamirs take on doing “different” stuff—makes one laugh sometimes.
but i guess he has more chance trying to do this sort of “encouraging smaller films” stuff and succeeding than the other way round!
Incidentally i dont find john as “wooden” as some others. infact there is a certain level of earnestness in his performances esp the intense ones.
There was a film called paap –saw just the final hour or so and found him good in it. didnt mind him in “no smoking” which i liked a lot!
On finding something amiss in the final edit of Abbas Tyrewala’s Jhootha Hi Sahi, the composer added two songs to the soundtrack at the very last minute

Watching the final edit of friend Abbas Tyrewala’s Jhootha Hi Sahi, turned out to be dissatisfactory for A R Rahman, who is known for being a perfectionist. The composer found something amiss and made an impromptu decision to record two more songs for the film.
After watching the final edit of the film in Chennai recently, Rahman added one song to be played during the start and end credits of the film and another one that will be the title song of the film. Rahman has now sent the songs to his friend Tyrewala.
When contacted, Tyrewala confirmed the news and said, “Rahman felt that the film needed one song and deserved one song. For me, the album was done and we had seven songs in it but now we have two more making the total number nine.
Abbas Tyrewala
The album will be releasing soon. Rahman felt that for the start and the end titles we should have a romantic track instead of just music. The song has a few English, some Urdu and a few Punjabi lyrics.”
Apparently, Rahman had suggested that the film should have a title track on hearing that the film was called Jhootha Hi Sahi. Tyrewala added,”He said that the film deserved to have a title track. He said, ‘I don’t care where you use it, whether you use it in the background or not but the film deserves it.’ In fact, he was in London at that time.
He booked a studio there and recorded it himself. We finalised the song on the Internet. It’s very nice of him to do it since he was in the middle of so many things.”
Coincidentally, Rahman has been busy dealing with the mixed response to his Commonwealth Games 2010 track. Wonder if that is prompting him to be extra careful with Tyrewala’s film? Of course, it could be friendship too.
alex… he is a lyrisc jaane tu ya jaane na was directed by tyrewaala.. i guess rahman liked to work wit h him then,
also BLUE they teamed up to gether.
thus tryrewaala is lyrisct and rahman music guy, and they might have devolop friendship or goodwill, also rahman likes to do love stories for youth once in a while, imo
Abbas’s third to bring together John Abraham and Imran Khan
Abbas Tyrewala has announced his next, Jaane Kya Tune Kahi, his third romantic film after Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and Jhootha Hi Sahi. And while Jhootha ¦ has yet to release, the director and his producer Madhu Mantena have already approached John Abraham (JHS) and Imran Khan (JTYJN) for lead roles in their latest project.
Notes a source, “Jaane Tu… was a romantic film between college friends, while JHS is a love story between friends. Tyrewala’s third film will be a mature love story with serious overtones. His films as a director have had friendship and love at the core, and that train of thought has continued with JKTK. Abbas has already started scripting for the film, and pre-production has already begun.”
Adds the source, “Madhu is in talks with John and Imran. Abbas is also keen on working with Genelia again. If all goes well, Jaane Kya ¦ will be John and Imran’s first film together.”
“Yes, JKTK will have a mixed cast taken from Abbas’ first two films,” confirms Mantena.
Actually when I say this sounds like Rahman’s Tamil work, it actually dovetails with the Enthiran point you’re making in that link. Specifically this point:
“Partly the problem is that surprisingly for Rahman a lot of the stuff here sounds like a referencing of his signature or an easy appropriation of moments we’ve heard before without adding anything significant to the mix.”
This is my sense with JHS. I feel like he phoned this in a bit. Pun intended.
i’ve given this a couple of listens and wanted to like it, but i don’t think i’ll go back to it anytime soon. I’ve been disappointed w/ rahman’s last couple of albums. Hopefully he has something good coming up.

John is the last guy on earth who could play a dweeb…
August 27, 2010 at 6:59 AM
I have seen him only in Dostaana where he had quite a comic turn.
So my writing of him is on an almost clean slate, and I didn’t find him lacking in ‘dweebness’ here (if I think what it means is correct
)

Did not know tyre wala has managed to rope in rehman for this movie…
Surprised how ARR got ‘roped in” for this one.
If so, good news for john!

Liked the Irish bit in the music, though why it’s there is anybody’s guess. Perhaps for novelty. Whatever, I do like it.
Once again the heroine strikes me with such a strong ‘Tanuja’ feeling.
Hope like her she is as chulbuli and fun, especially in such a film.

Nice number here..
September 29, 2010 at 10:11 AM
Overall it’s a pleasant album but seems pretty by-the-book stuff for the genre. Some of it actually sounds a tad like Rahman’s earlier Tamil work.
September 29, 2010 at 10:49 AM
I expect to enjoy it more than Enthiran though.
