Johnny Depp to play Tonto in Lone Ranger movie
Johnny Depp and Pirates Of The Caribbean director Gore Verbinski are reuniting to create a movie update of The Lone Ranger. Rumours that such a movie was to be made have been circulating since 2007, when it was first announced that Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of the three Pirates Of The Caribbean movies that followed the original, wanted to make the film with Verbinski.
The new film will be based on the 1950s radio and TV show.

ha ha, this should be subversive — a Lone Ranger where Tonto is (likely) the bigger star/draw than whoever they get as Lone Ranger..

I don’t know — I always preferred Jay Silverheels to Clayton Moore when I was growing up. I also thought he had the better role.

What strikes me about this news though, is the utter lack of creativity in Hollywood these days! People complain about the lack of fresh ideas in Bollywood, but how much better is Hollywood, really? All the big studios (which is what “Hollywood” comprises) are wary of taking any risk, and keep recycling these old time TV series and comic strips.
