  1. And a major Rahman! Hooray!

  2. Re: grossed more than Rs 400 crore worldwide

    This might gross 1200 crores.

  3. AB has already done a triple role in “Mahaan” which i think was produced by S Ramanthan.

I hope this piece of trivia does not start off a blog debate on Rajni vs AB as it is posted on Satyam’s blog!

  4. satyam, is deepika confirmed as female lead for this movie?

  5. Budget of the movie will be 100 crore. 33 crore for the make up to look rajni young. Triple role means triple Expense (11 crore each.)

  6. Great news: not just because it’s ARR but because it’s likely to be a solid. Tamil masala-kind of album. Padaiyappa is one of of the most enjoyable albums out there from the last 10-12 years…

  7. Deepika Padukone in Rajnikanth’s world

After Deepika Padukone’s debut alongside Shahrukh Khan, she went on to work with a lot of great actors in Bollywood.

It appears that she is out to conquer the South and what better way to do it – than to star opposite Rajnikanth!

On January 25, Mumbai Mirror, had broken the story that Padukone was considering doing a film with Rajni.

It seems as though Padukone took our humour seriously, when we advised her that refusing Rajnikanth would come with its consequences.

It has been confirmed that she has indeed signed on for the film, Rana, with Rajni.

Rana, directed by K.S.Ravikumar, will feature Rajni in a triple role. The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telegu and the music will be the masterpiece of A.R.Rahman.

A source close to the film says, “Eros International will produce Rana, with Rajnikanth’s daughter Soundarya’s company, Ocher Studios.

The film will go on floors, in March. Rana will hit the theatres mid-2012.”

  8. Madhuri says no to Rajnikanth
    TNN, Feb 20, 2011, 12.00am IST

This season everyone in Bollywood fell prey to the charms of the 44-year-old Madhuri Dixit who flew in from the US to judge a dance reality show on television.

Besides the Khans, Kapoors and Kumars who poured praises in Mads’ honour, the other man who was reportedly enamoured with her is the Tamil megastar Rajnikanth. Madhuri and Rajni have done Uttar Dakshin in 1987.

TOI announced just a few days ago that when Rajni came calling to Mumbai for one night he did attempt to meet a few Bollywood stars.

A distributor says, “Besides casting Deepika Padukone and Sonu Sood from Mumbai, Rajni Sir was also keen to have Madhuri Dixit in Rana. However she turned down the offer. She excused herself saying that she was missing her sons Arin and Raayan too much and wanted to fly back to the United States.” Rana as everyone knows has Rajni in a triple role. Madhuri naturally would be cast opposite one of the older characters that Rajni is playing; whereas the 25-year-old Deepika will romance the younger character.

    • yes he looks to be doing this massive Tamil epic.. still looking for final confirmation on this but some of the starcast seems less than inspiring. Mahesh Babu is fine but Arya?! A few other names being thrown around as well.

  9. As per recent reports Vijay, Mahesh , Arya and Anushka are in the cast.

  10. alex adams Says:

My knowledge of South indian films is quite below par.
But in my v limited experience, I am yet to find a more complete performer than Kamal Hassan.Just ONE film of his—Hey raam—As actor and director was enuf to make me know his worth.
Ditto with MOhan lal whose performance in Company bowled me over,
Sometimes you need to see a handful of rice to assess the whole produce
Somehow Im still to Deecode the Rajini mystery though—whats the fuss about???lol
Obviously numbers dont lie—there HAS to be somethign there!!

    • No one else has been able to find anyone better than Mohanlal or Kamal either! I consider the former considerably superior but that’s another matter. On Rajni his gesturality is addictive but one has to watch a few films to get this. He was quite the scene-stealer though even when paired with Kamal in his early days. At that point he hadn’t of course developed into a megastar but he was always arresting on screen. But again sometimes one has to be more ‘housed’ within a culture to start getting some of this stuff. So yes there ‘is’ something there but not that everything is equally translatable.
