130 Responses to “Double Dhamaal 2, Ready (still ongoing!), the rest of the box office”
Double Dhamaal looks set for a big first day tally as it had a good start at the multiplexes and the single screens have also started strongly.
The film is strong in all the major circuits where mass films score. Mumbai, CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan are all putting up good numbers while Delhi/UP and East Punjab are excellent.
West Bengal and South are weaker and giving average performance.
The film is looking to emerge a major success on the strength of its strong opening. The way the film has opened at the box office it would not be a surprise if the first day comes out be 8 crore nett which is a huge number for Double Dhamaal as it does not have smash hit music nor does does it have a big star.
Double Dhamaal had a good start at the box office as it opened to around 60-70% collections at multiplexes. At some multiplexes like Spice Noida, E Square Pune and Wave Ludhiana the collections were close to the 100% mark in the first show.
The single screens should also manage a fair/good start as the film has the mass elements even though there is no superstar in the film.
The good start in the North is a good sign for the film as the first Dhamaal did not do well in the North but Double Dhamaal has started well at multiplexes of North especially Delhi NCR and Punjab area. Mumbai circuit should do well as Gujarat and Maharashtra will be strong for this film.
The opening in the South was comparatively much weaker than the North at multiplexes.
Ready grossed around 13 crore nett in its third week to take its three week total to around the 115 crore nett mark. The weekdays again remaoned rock steady. The collections so far have been as follows.
Week One – 69.37 crore
Week Two – 32.68 crore
Week – 13 crore approx
TOTAL – 115.05 crore approx.
This week will see a major drop as Double Dhamaal has released. The film is unlikely to reach the 125 crore nett mark but a 120 crore nett finish is on the cards.
Surprisingly good collections for Double Dhamaal. So even if a film gets generally liked by the public, a sequel is a sureshot way of guaranteeing results.
Can understand the craze over sequels in our industry
B.O. update: ‘Double Dhamaal’ starts with a bang, expected to post BIG numbers
- By Taran Adarsh, June 24, 2011 – 18:25 IST
DOUBLE DHAMAAL has fetched a flying start at the box-office. In fact, the terrific opening came as a surprise to many in the industry because though the film stars a number of actors, it doesn’t have a superstar to draw the audiences into the theatres. But the 100% start at several screens and at places 70% + has got the industry smiling again, after READY. The film is expected to collect a hefty sum on its opening day and also in its opening weekend, in view of the fact that the audience feedback is positive.
DOUBLE DHAMAAL Opens To Mixed Response
June 24th, 2011 by Komal Nahta
Double Dhamaal box office opening mixedThis week’s Double Dhamaal is off to a flying start in some parts of India and a slow start in other parts. The comic caper witnessed a fantastic opening in North India (Delhi-U.P. and East Punjab mainly). At Silver City multiplex in Ghaziabad, the film had to be shown in three screens in the morning due to surging crowds. At Movie World multiplex in Ghaziabad also, attendance in the morning shows was housefull. Ditto for Spice multiplex at NOIDA.
But in cities like Pune, Raipur, Nagpur and Indore, collections were around 30-60% only.
At Bioscope multiplex in Jodhpur, the percentage occupancy in the first show was 17; in the second show, occupancy was 21%; in the third and fourth (the best) shows, the occupancy went up to 42.6% and a whopping 97% respectively. Collections nose-dived in the fifth (4.30 pm) show to 12.5 %.
All in all, the opening ranged from the dull to the excellent. Likewise, public reports ranged from the dull to good.
Interestingly, the film’s collections are good in ‘B’ and ‘C’ class centres as also in single-screen cinemas of ‘A’ class centres.
Overall, the opening weekend should be fair, not outstanding.
Having just seen the film I have to say its a decent to good comedy entertainer. I laughed in many places and the references to Dabangg, Guzaarish Peepli Live etc were HILARIOUSSSS. I also loved the mimicry of Sanjeev Kumar and Shatrugan Sinha.
I thought all the songs were superb especially Jalebi Bai. I am a fan of Kangna but Mallika shines more in this film and my word looking HOTTT. Out of the actors I thought Arshad and Ritesh were head and shoulders above the rest.
I didn’t like the part where Ashish is dressed up as a woman. That stretched too long and became annoying. Anyway good fun 3/5 from me.
However, some parts are way too loud and if they had toned that down then the film could have been far better. It still should do pretty well. I expect it to hit 36-38.
With 4-5 movies releasing every week Hindi movie industry seems to be indulging is mass production these days with no thought to quality . While it is an employment boom for the struggling actors and may also help the multiplexes to show something ,anything , new on their screen every time one wonders whether this mad craze of trying to ” last for the first 3 days ” by any means is actually helping to raise the standard of movies . In a way it is actually a releif that there are the regional movies and occasional good hollywood movies to break the monotony of absurd movie making , worthless scripts and senseless acting that seems to be the new taste in town.
From the business point of view, it is good that we have so many releases. Actually, there are a spate of well made small budget films along with much hyped mega budget starrers. The economics, the viability, the funding process are some of the grey areas. And some films are absolute washouts. There is a lot of experimentation going on. Marketing, promos, item songs have become the norm. And there is always this friday fever gripping cinegoers and everyone connected with the art and business of film making.
Ready has become a blockbuster. Will there be more Readies on the anvil? People are discussing about its blockbuster status more than what made it so. And Dhamaal has also got good opening.
Next Friday offers 2 item song type of movies. BHTB and DB. First time in the history of bollywood. Both have impeccable personalities involved. Once they represented something else.
Go Arshad…Go Arshad…YAY….seems that just like Vidhya balan, whatever (film) he is in, is a success. Happy for him. Munnabhai. Ishkiya. Now this. Good, good!
Maybe some “A” listers can learn some lessons from the “chote” kalakars!!!
Wont compare warsi to the superior Balan (interms of talent).\
Warsi is not bad but somehow suffers from a ego>talent syndrome like some others.
also has a sort of “SRK-hangover”(interms of being a tad oversmart but not in acting style though) –unfortunately his (lack of major) success has prevented these tendencies from getting overt….
ps—havent seen ishqiya but suspect my impression wont change…
Do remember a promo somewhere wherein his “love” was”lust” or something of that effect lol
“Warsi was born to play Circuit.. nothing else he’s done is remotely comparable.. including Ishqiya.”
OMG!!! You have to take these words back (lolz) Satyam.
He was “born to play circuit” is actually called ACTING, dude. Smita Patil, after watching her movie, I felt she was slumdweller FOR A LONG time. Same think with Amjad Khan. If you were to watch AW in Sehar, you will think he was born to play a cop. Haan…he doesn’t have famous last name like “khan” or “bachchan” and prolly money to buy PR team, but what he has is oddles of talent. Ishquiya was also “tapori” sort of role, not a suave hero. So both the “heroes” (Naseer and AW) are not typical bw choclate-cream hero. But I guess, after watching BW trash for a long time, when something good comes out, we don’t appreciate it!!!!!!
actually I didn’t think that after watching Sehar! I’ve only ever found him extraordinary in Munnabhai. He’s certainly competent otherwise but there’s nothing special.
He is a good actor…end of story. If likes of Saif (ugly lookers) can become “heroes” then why not my AW?!? Bigb is also good at comedy and other roles. Versatile/talented actors are like that. Did you know that AW was a choreographer before? He dances SO well. I love him in everything. Too bad that he would never get the “hero” roles like Saif or Aamir. But he is a delight in everything he appears in…similar to Paresh Rawal or any of those character (read real here) actors
I remember his dance in ankh mare. Who was that heroine with him in that film? If you observe, there is a slight resemblance between B in his younger days and Warsi.
Dont compare him with Paresh Rawal who was born as middle aged shapeless funny thing born to make us laugh. Warsi is quite young and still has a variety of roles to play with panache
Saif has become a hero of sorts. But not yet the real bollywood hero acceptable for the masses.
Double Dhamaal Nets Rs 7.65 Cr On Friday

Double Dhamaal Box Office
Reliance Entertainment’s Double Dhamaal (Review) scored at the box-office, raking in a total of Rs. 7.65 crore (Rs. 76.5 million) in all-India net collections on the opening day (Friday, June 24, 2011).
While the film’s opening had been a mixed bag, collections picked up (where ever they were low) as the day progressed.
Given below is the region-wise break down of the Friday collections of the comedy:

I’m sorry but this is fuc%ing lame and tacky. SRK is mocking Salman from what I can see. I don’t mind what he does on stage but he should do his own thing not dance to other songs etc
@ rajen – I have no problem with srk but this was too much. It wasn’t much the dance or lack of it but the way he did it and then he is flirting with the dancers. I hope am not going overboard here but this was not classy not by any means. I hate to think what the full version/performance was like.
this is what SRK does…first he mocked Ghajni at the FF awards couple years ago and then earlier this year at the FF awards again he mocked sallu bhai. used to it by now. ive never gotten his humor. its just not funny. this his only way of ‘getting back’ because he sure as hell can’t do it through the box office nowadays.
yes I remember that Ghajini and FF incident now. Anyway I think he will always be there at the top etc coz he is a MASSIVE star but such acts like this imo NOT COOL.
If I remember Ranbir and Imran mocked Ghajini..and SRK’s RBNBDJ charcaters at FF…Salman has been mocked by Ranbir/Imran/Ritesh etc… Similarly Ritesh and Boman have mocked Aamir,Salman, Big B, Ramu etc in IIFA…SRK was mocked in both ghajini and Partner (chhota DON)…
But I don’t understand when SRK does the same thing why ppl have issues..if same mimicry was done by Ranbir/Imran/Ritesh etc..some of the ppl say it’s good hosting…but in case of SRK it’s bad hosting…
Every Superstar has his own way of functioning…Aamir and Amitabh does not host award shows….Hosting was all started by SRK/Saif….If u will notice guys like Ranbir and Imran are just following the same path…Don’t know about Imran but Ranbir certainly is not a chhota mota star…
I did not get the point…If Amitabh is not doing a certain thing..and he is the ultimate superstar..don’t do that if u r also a superstar…
“Many think that he is second to Bachchan.”
Sorry..but as far as SRK fans are concerned he is second to no one…and as per fans of other stars.. he is finished or going to be finished …
Double Dhamaal had a very good first weekend of 25.50 crore nett as per early estimates. The film has scored very well over the first weekend and is expected to score again on Monday. The film has the potential to close the week at around 40 crore nett.
The approx breakdowns were 7.60 crore nett on Friday, 8.10 crore nett on Saturday and 9.75 crore nett plus on Sunday.
The film jumped heavily on Sunday in most circuits. The weekend business in Mumbai is around 10 crore nett, in Delhi/UP it is 5.50 crore nett. CI has under performed a little considering it is a mass film circuit.
Delhi Belly Will Take A Phenomenal Start
June 27th, 2011 by Komal Nahta
Delhi Belly – Box Office Expectations
Come Friday, Delhi Belly will take a phenomenal start at the box-office, not in small measure due to the popularity of the hit song DK Bose, which has almost become the national anthem for the youth of India. Besides, Aamir Khan has promoted the film very well.
Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap Faces Competition
June 27th, 2011 by Komal Nahta
Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap – Box-Office Expectations
The film will take a good start at the box-office, more so in single-screen cinemas, but the Amitabh Bachchan starrer is pitted against two other films (Delhi Belly and Transformers: Dark Of The Moon) which will also take good start at the box-office. So, Bbuddah… will have to rough it out at the box-office.
Ready was always going to have a fall this week as Double Dhamaal released but it still managed to collect around 2 crore nett in its fourth weekend.
It is its first major week to week drop since release but it was expected as it was first time it had a major release for competition.
The film has now grossed around 117.50 crore nett till the end of its fourth weekend.
By the end of its fourth week it will be near 119 cror nett and then it is likely to just edge over the 120 crore nett mark for its final lifetime business.
Box Office: Badrinaath slow follow up; DD on, DB, Buddah Tera Baap next
Sunday, June 26, 2011
Comedy multistarrer Double Dhamaal has taken a good opening of about 6 crore net, 8 crore gross on Friday and Saturday saw the usual jump by about 10% so the film should record 20 crore weekend.
Badrinaath in south, chiefly in Andhra, had a good opening week but saw a strong decline in week 2 as well with collections faring in at 6-7 crores.
Ready in Hindi is going well with collections over 100 crores now, though its collections took a hit with double dhamaal and will further next week with Delhi Belly and Bbuddah.
Out also this week was the film Avan Ivan (Tamil). It and its telgu version Vaada Veedu combined are the top draws at the box office this week. However this film too has received mixed reports in the south.
Next week nationally has Delhi Belly with an ensemble tale with its title alluding to the diarrhea/indigestion westerners have, having to do with the Delhi’s food stalls. The 35 crore film centers on 3 guys making their way around the city while Buddah Hoga Tera Baap is a 10cr solo affair from Amitabh Bachchan in an action-comedy. The advantage for Delhi Belly is the target audience (urban college crowd) is what’s pervasive in theater going segments of society. Its disadvantage is its theme, the A rating and lack of family audiences will restrict it, not to mention release of Transformers 3 which will compete for its share against Delhi Belly in the same multiplexes where DB would be expected to do well. The disadvantage for Buddah is the conventional college crowd may not be there. The advantage for Buddah could be single screens and fair section of multiplexes will be there, and if the film clicks with family audiences and minority percentage of youth showing up, it can emerge one of the biggest hits of the year in terms of returns because of its cost.
Subsequently lined up for the big release later in July is Singham featuring Ajay Devgan.
3 Idiots has also broken the record of Avatar in Taiwan, and has become the third longest running foreign language film in Taiwan, after Jurassic Park and Titanic.
Double Dhamaal grosses Rs 39.60 crores in opening weekend
Comic caper Double Dhamaal, distributed by Reliance Entertainment and Maruti Pictures has had an impressive opening at the box office, grossing Rs 39.60 crores at the box office in its opening weekend, revealed a statement from the production house.
The film that was released in 1953 screens worldwide June 24 has been directed by Inder Kumar, produced by Ashok Thakeria and stars Sanjay Dutt, Mallika Sherawat, Kangana Ranaut, Ritiesh Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Ashish Chowdhry and Javed Jaferri.
“Double Dhamaal has received an overwhelming response over the weekend and will continue to attract audience in large numbers across the world. The film has already opened in 37 countries and is scheduled to open in non- traditional markets like France, Russia, CIS States, China, Turkey, Greece, Switzerland, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Belarus amongst many others,” said Sanjeev Lamba, CEO, Reliance Entertainment.
The film that is a sequel to 2007 hit film Dhamaal, catches up with the quartet of good-for-nothings – Roy (Ritesh Deshmukh), Adi (Arshad Warsi), Manav (Jaaved Jaaferi) and Boman (Aashish Chaudhary), who dream of an easy life with minimal effort when they encounter their old arch-enemy: corrupt Inspector Kabir (Sanjay Dutt).
DOUBLE DHAMAAL Weekend Box Office: Rs. 25 Crore
1 day ago by Komal Nahta
After taking a good opening on Friday, Double Dhamaal collected a total of 25.65 crore (all-India net collections) at the box-office over its first weekend at the theatres (June 24 – 26, 2011).
Day All-India net collections (in Indian Rupees)
Friday 7.65 crore
Saturday 8.00 crore
Sunday 10.00 crore
Total 25.65 crore
Collections picked up a little on Saturday and phenomenally on Sunday (From 8 cr to 10 cr). Overall, the first weekend collections of the film are very good, but since all distributors who had bought the rights from Reliance Entertainment had paid very fancy prices, these collections may prove to be insufficient for them to make profits or even break even.
Explained differently, although the pickup in collections on Sunday was phenomenal, the start on Friday was not good enough for the price. However, considering the star cast, the start was good. Of course, since we speak about the collections vis-à-vis the cost, Double Dhamaal will have to continue to work at the box-office through the first week in order to break even. The second weekend’s collections will then, convert into profits.
Nahata thinks that Bachchan fans won’t be happy with what he’s saying. It’s not about being unhappy with the facts. No Bachchan fan here for example has ever expected a better opening than DB irrespective of the campaigns and so on. The youth demographic (one of the two most influential ones for the film) was always going to show up in a big way for the film. The question then was whether Bbuddah could do superbly with other cross-sections. That jury is still out.
But the point here is that some of these trade figures say there’s huge hype in the early stages and then later change their tune. Let’s see how Taran goes. Similarly from BOI to Nahata suddenly everyone seems to have become the biggest Transformers fan out there! Yes we all know Transformers will do well as do many Hollywood films these days. But is this ever the difference between failure and success for a film? Also how come these same folks don’t point out that the very same demographic will be interested in both this and DB. Here there is no issue for Bbuddah except for a kid segment where the parents will have to be dragged along for Transformers. Meanwhile because of the rating the family audience will hardly show up for DB,
In any case DB is a certain success and could throw up some very big numbers relative to its appeal across the youth demographic. I have always been certain about Bbuddah’s success but the audience is more diffuse here so the margins are harder to predict though I’ve already stuck my neck out the other day and suggested it won’t do less than 40. Single/double screens should be big here. In any case this is the sort of more comprehensive, more nuanced narrative that Nahata doesn’t provide when he does the same for other films and then he pretends it’s about sensitive Bachchan fans! The classic move here as always isn’t just about being negative and so on but trying to write out Bachchan from the narrative. So suddenly it’s just about DB and Transformers.
Re: suddenly everyone seems to have become the biggest Transformers fan out there!
LOL, so true!
Bachcan phenomenon is something they are not used to and upsets their cosy theories and alignments. And, this makes them uncomfortable. As a result they resort to all kinds of distortions to make sure all is well in their perceived reality. Kind of sad and pathetic.
The likes of BOI and Nahata can put prostitues out of business.
Nahata wants DD to be a flop. And, has started spinning it as such.
BHTB may be a hit or it may not. But, this kind of negativity ( including some bloggers who come here only to spew venom at BHTB) in the end does a disservice to them as it puts their small mindedness and pettiness on display.
Shamita Shetty quit acting too. There are about a dozen jokes that I’d like to crack on both of them, but in the end, better sense tells me that these guys were graceful enough to admit they weren’t cut out for Bollywood. #Respect
Business Talk With Taran Adarsh
Creating dhamaal at the box-office
June 29, 2011 – 07:51 IST
I’ve realized one thing over the years. There’s nothing bigger than a successful franchise. Let’s go back to BHEJA FRY 2. Post BHEJA FRY, Vinay Pathak starrers have had a rough ride at the box-office. The sole exception being CHALO DILLI, which fared better thanks to the presence of an A-list co-star [Lara Dutta], besides the fact that its makers promoted the film to the optimum. BHEJA FRY was fresh on the minds of viewers, hence its sequel attracted maximum footfalls amongst new releases in that particular week. Had it not been a sequel, it wouldn’t have garnered such figures in its opening weekend.
Now DOUBLE DHAMAAL. Though DHAMAAL released a few years ago and fared well at the box-office, its sequel generated a lot of curiosity when the first look and theatrical trailer were launched. I genuinely feel that you either connect with a film or you don’t, when the first look is unveiled. In this case, the viewers knew that DOUBLE DHAMAAL would be a madcap entertainer. It’s a new genre [leave-your-brain-at-home comedies] that Bollywood moghuls have taken a fancy for and it seems to be working right now.
People in the industry were of the opinion that DOUBLE DHAMAAL would embark on a fairly decent note. According to expert distributors/exhibitors I spoke to, prior to its release, they predicted the opening Friday numbers to be in Rs 4.5 to Rs 5 cr range. Not beyond that, they echoed. The weekend, they envisioned, would be maximum Rs 16 cr to Rs 17 cr nett. But box-office is most unpredictable and that’s the beauty of this business.
The Friday numbers [Rs 7.62 cr] caught the industry by complete surprise. In fact, the topic of discussion over breakfast during the just concluded IIFA in Toronto was the flying start that DOUBLE DHAMAAL had embarked upon, since it doesn’t star a crowd-puller actor to lure the audiences in hordes. The opening day figures of DOUBLE DHAMAAL proved all calculations wrong.
The skeptics were of the opinion that DOUBLE DHAMAAL would crash on Saturday. Saturday, I must make you aware, is the litmus test for most films. Either the business heads Northwards or Southwards, depending on how strong the word of mouth is. DOUBLE DHAMAAL showed an escalation on Saturday [Rs 8.01 cr], while the Sunday numbers were super-strong [Rs 9.87 cr]. DOUBLE DHAMAAL had fetched a truly flying start, garnering a fat amount in its opening weekend [Rs 25.5 cr nett].
Like READY, DOUBLE DHAMAAL also attracted vicious criticism from certain quarters. But what’s more important for a film-maker? The praise by a handful of critics or the handsome returns at the box-office? The glowing ratings in reviews pamper a film-maker no end, but what eventually matters is how successful your film is at the box-office. A success encourages you to make more films, else the industry would continue to languish in ICU.
READY and DOUBLE DHAMAAL have brought the joy back. The mood in the industry is, all of a sudden, upbeat. The producers are having the last laugh. As for the distributors, they are laughing all the way to the bank. Aur kya chahiye?
Think DB will not do less than 30 crores in week 1. Would be very surprised at anything less than 25. I think just the young demographic can get these numbers going. We’re looking at a JTYJN model. The only advantage the latter had was that it wasn’t scaring off any segment of the family audience even if it too was for younger views. Still accounting for inflation, the craze for DB song and so on, I’d say that 50-60 crores is definitely on here.
The news isn’t that good for Imran though because this film is more or less being referred to an Aamir film everywhere. And certainly it will get some cross-section of a larger audience that would otherwise never touch this sort of subject just because Aamir’s name is attached to it. At this point Imran needs the hit and he’ll take it wherever he can I guess but he really needs to get something done away from Aamir. He definitely has a fan base but his bad luck lies in the fact that he has appeared at the end of an age or romantic movies, even multiplex romances. In other words he does not have the bread and butter film. Whatever he’s tried elsewhere hasn’t quite worked.
For Aamir once again this is a huge feather in his cap because it reveals for the umpteenth time that he is good as gold in any and every subject he touches. The idea that distributors rate any star more highly than him currently is simply mad. They rate projects highly and here certain stars obviously become important in certain films and genres. But Aamir’s calling card remains unique from his massive and historic blockbusters to his edgier major hits to his ‘small’ superhits to truly offbeat stuff that still grosses significantly to finally the arthouse effort that too does admirably. And of course then there are these productions that continue the narrative.
Whether one is an Aamir fan or not the fact that he has over a decade carved up a stunning track record in every way without just doing obvious ‘winner’ genres should not be open to debate and certainly is worthy of a great deal of admiration. One can be a partisan and not think highly of him as an actor or star but what he’s accomplished is extraordinary and I would go much further and say that if one looks at all stars who debuted around the time he did or a little later, i.e. those of his generation and since, there is no other star career for any segment of time that is as impressive as his sequence this past decade. And I’m not forgetting anyone. I am accounting for SRK’s unique new India/diaspora iconic appeal, I am similarly accounting for some others but as a body of work, as a compromise between commercial and meaningful cinema and one correlated with box office returns, Aamir is simply peerless for the body of work I’m referring to.
Now that’s he achieved everything though I would like him to push the envelope a little more in certain directions. The Guru Dutt project which doesn’t look to be happening was one potential example. Because he could keep doing what he’s done this past decade but I’d like to see another Lagaan or RDB sort of moment from him. In other words a genuine risk. I have of course very many of his films risky this past decade but he has at the same time mastered the art of finding the commercially feasible within the risky subject. What I’d now like him to do is raise the stakes a bit more. With the kind of initial and credibility he has he is really uniquely placed to advance his (and the industry’s) narrative.
I think its going to post some massive numbers. The songs have done the trick. With the marketing blitz as well it will rock the box office. If the film works I would not be surprised if it makes 40 crore in first week.
In a way this movie is a test to see what is the appeal of such a youth oriented, family unfriendly film. There is a lot going for it given the man behind the movie, sings that have caught on and the comic flavor and the obvious targetting of a particular demographic group. Only reservations are the language both in terms of crudity and the English content. If does post ‘massive’ numbers, it will show the extent of the importance of the youth to a success of a film. We already knw it is huge but this will help quantify it as there has been no major film speciafically targetting this group exclusively.
Will be interesting to see. Aamir is a path breaker in more ways than one.
If AB quotes BO numbers for BHTB on his blog, he would be well advised to quote only the nett as quoting gross numbers often comes across as a means of inflating or overplaying a film’s performance.
For people who dont look at this stuff routinely, it is pardonable. But, when there is going to be intense scrutiny, it is better to quote unquestionable net numbers only.
No matter how much AB quote numbers .. it will be considered correct only if it match with BOI or close to it. I guess there is no need of any other source .. BOI is enough .. because all others are incorrect if they are quoting different numbers from BOI. So why need any other source if validation point is BOI only ??
Double Dhamaal is falling fast on weekdays. The collections are were just 2.40 crore nett approx on Wednesday taking the five day total to 34.50 crore. The film has scored due to very good opening. The Wednesday territorial breakdown is as follows.
Finally, the moment is almost here.
By and large the cup has already been awarded to DB by most analysts.
Probably with good reason. Hope , BHTB can hold its own and even surprise. I think all signs are good for BHTB. Its just how much of interest and motivation can it generate to translate the goodwill, nostalgia and sentiments to actually carry those people to the halls. Because,I think the ones who do go are going to come out satisfied.
Apparently the print count for Bbuddah is much smaller. Wish they’d gone in for a normal print count. One of the things I’ve never agreed with (and I’ve made it known on the blog) is that you can produce a small film and make it completely safe financially (even Taran accepts in his review that it will be profitable for sure just based on the deals they’ve made leaving aside all else) but one shouldn’t otherwise approach it in this way. This is a commercial masala deal with Amitabh Bachchan. Sure he’s skipped a generation and the same genre continuity isn’t there as there is with Rajni for example. And I also understand that your costs have to be proportionate to the overall budget. But still one can sometimes have this posture where one feels one has invested Rs 2 and Rs 5 are therefore great for recovery and profit when Rs 8 might be possible.
Having said that the print count argument is a bit overrated to this extent. Films don’t really run to packed houses these days in the true sense. That is a myth. There are just too many screens for that to happen. So Salman’s Ready by some measures wasn’t doing more than 70% of capacity despite the huge gross. So lesser prints jack up the percentages in this sense. However the one issue here is that the prints must be distributed in the right way. The problem with BBuddah is that unlike most films these days you can’t just go multiplex-heavy because this should be big in single/double screens. If you then have a smaller print count what screens do you compromise more?
By the way both films are relatively short. DB is very short at 1 hr 45 min, Bbuddah is 2 hr 10 min. So maximizing shows in multiplexes won’t be an issue either way.
Agrere. A couple more hundred prints wouldnt have hurt.
I think after the first debacle with ABCL, AB has become more cautious. A success ehre should embolden him and Jr in terms of release strategy.
they are definitely preparing stronger groundwork this time.. note by the way how people who attack people for his script sense and so on when he does risky films don’t really credit him when he makes some key judgment calls on Paa or Bbuddah.

…hearing fabulous reports for bbuddah hoga tera baap! Double delight for me as these are the kind of films I believe in and love!!
Aamir is a genius. He has plugged DB so well. He said in an interview somewhere : If we dont get flak for DB, we have gone wrong somewhere.
He has so smartly positioned DB, it is amazing. The guy is brilliant in every sense of the word. DB is going to further separate him from other actors of the present generation tho he neither stars nor has he directed.
A word of caution to SRK fans. Some have been plugging DB in the twisted logic that an AB failure is good for SRK. Let me warn you- Ek taraf kua hai aur doosri taraf khai. An Aamir success eventually is going to be much harder for SRK fans here. As, if DB succeeds in a big way, Aamir will have well and truly separated himself from SRK and they would nt be spoken of in the same breadth ever again.
Aamir can’t really be measured as an “actor” alone any longer. He is a very unique industry force. He’s just becomes this colossal, symbolic figure in so many different ways (in so many different departments from marketing to production to direction) that a comparison with other “stars” (even if the stars might enjoy more fanfare or what have you) seems in some way reductive or pointless. The guy just represents something for which there hasn’t been a precedent pretty much anywhere in India. At least not one that I can think of.
Was going to say something similar. His attachment to a film in any capacity is enough now to trigger some kind of audience. Depending on the type of film, and Delhi Belly seems to have a good sized audience, his films can command a big opening without him being a star in the movie.
He just has remarkable “street” credibility at the moment and his streak is quite relentless.
Others are more educated in this but someone like Raj Kapoor comes to mind. To reduce the totality of his achievements by looking solely at his on-screen stardom is to do some injustice to his legacy, what he meant for his industry, etc.
There is a certainly a bit of a structural parallel here. Raj Kapoor was very iconic as a star but even moreso as a director and a cultural presence. Aamir in a similar sense (though the comparison isn’t exact otherwise) is important as a star but has become much moreso as a producer/director and an overall marker of ‘prestige’ and ‘quality’.
Kamal might make for an interesting comparison too, even if, as you say, it’s not an exact correspondence. Kamal’s persona was never just about “stardom” but about a certain kind of cinema and he was of course seen as a renaissance man in the sense of wearing several different hats. Of course more recently (barring his superb directorial efforts) he’s receded a bit but at his peak I think he helped write the narrative of his industry to a certain degree.
Raj Kapoor and Kamal were very potent iconic forces for sure, something which cannot be said about Aamir. Again I don’t mind the Kamal comparison either but Aamir despite always being an A-list star and of course in his own league over the past decade doesn’t have quite the same iconic element as a star. But yes he is even more allied with Kamal in trying to spearhead that change. Raj Kapoor wasn’t seen as bringing light to the barbarians (!) in his age seminal as he was otherwise. With Kamal and Aamir the sense of a ‘rescue’ has very much been there and I agree with both!
agreed completely.. I heard anecdotally from some people who would otherwise not watch the DB kind of subject, certainly not with some of the red flags being raised here about language and so on but who are nonetheless going to watch only because Aamir’s name is attached to it.
It is probably a sign of changing times but RK didnt have AK’s savvy.
RK was a genius but not above missteps. AK just seems like he cannot put a wrong foot.I think Kiran Rao also deserves a lot of credit here.
True but RK also pushed the envelope in certain ways that Aamir might not be willing to. Or at least hasn’t been willing to since Lagaan. In other words a MNJ equivalent. And this is my only grouse with Aamir. Of course most of his films have been risky one way or the other even since Lagaan and I would hardly underrate this but Lagaan still represents the greatest one all things considered. And over time even as Aamir has done all kinds of genres successfully there’s also been a bit of a ‘holding pattern’ if you will. In other words precisely because he is Aamir and has a certain judgment he can create ‘safety’ in some very diverse (and/or risky) genres. But this is different from making a Lagaan where no matter how well-made the film is there is no reliable model to depend on in terms of gauging its prospects. And this is where I think that after a decade or more of building an incredible streak Aamir can take some more risks. Now perhaps it has never been his goal to go quite so far but I think incredible success also creates its own crippling logic. This wasn’t true say 5 years after Lagaan but at this point the logic of ‘never failing’ is part of the Aamir resume. And it’s of course stunning that he can keep doing it. But he’s also now very much enframed by that logic. What this then means is that some of the very genuine risks Raj Kapoor took or that Rathnam keeps taking become increasingly improbable. And here I would argue with the ‘missteps’ characterization. Commercially these are certainly so but you cannot make truly path-breaking cinema in a historic sense unless you’re willing to paradoxically forget the historical lessons! And Aamir did this with Lagaan and sure enough this is the film that completely reinvented him as a star. I think the time is now ripe for him to make another such leap. And it might well be coming. Elsewhere in his Bollywood hungama interview he talks about an idea he had and that currently he’s jointly working on with Kiran Rao and Mansoor Khan. He also says somewhere it’s not a small film and that he’d have to be part of it. So something special might be in the works here since he’s also dragged Mansoor Khan out of retirement.
And this is also why by the way (and in a very different context) Abhishek’s very commercial lineup currently concerns me. Of course I understand the reasons. If anyone has a good reason for good the whole hog on commercial cinema he does. But what happens again is that you get a few major grossers in succession which is certainly very possible with his sequence and suddenly the market pressure becomes too great for you to take the same sorts of risks again. Once in a while perhaps but not regularly. But also the star too can get very seduced by the success. No matter who he star is. No one is above that level of success. Kamal has never stopped wishing he could have Rajni’s success. Similarly as successful as he’s been Ghajini and 3I take things to a whole different level for Aamir. So commercial success at a certain magnitude is very very hard to argue against. And frankly not be completely overwhelmed by (Aamir here was still very smart to immediately go small after 3I). And here Bachchan provides the ultimate example of why despite being the actor he was he too had to follow a certain logic. Because the box office forces were uniquely historic in his case. In each such instance I as a viewer always regret the loss of the actor. Not because many of these stars cannot be very effective in commercial outings but because they can do far more. In this sense the Kamal model is the much better one for a very talented actor. One should be near the top but not right at the top! Bachchan in this sense was very lucky in that during the 70s he was still able to the mix to a very great degree.
The difference between Raj Kapoor and Aamir Khan is very clear.
Raj Kapoor was a statesman and Aamir Khan has yet to attain that status.
Raj Kapoor always thought big and was ready to stake everything to realise his dreams. Aamir Khan knows where to stop.
Raj Kapoor fell in love with most of his leading ladies while making films. That passion shows in his films.
While Raj Kapoor is passionate, Aamir Khan is technical though highly successful.
Raj Kapoor would have given his life, riches, family for films. That type of passion is something rare.
Raj Kapoor’s films are for all generations, while Khan’s films would not have that type of impact in earler generations.
How can one compare a full moon with a twinkling star?
Vatikala,
Dont get me wrong.
Aamir has a long way to go before he can be considered equal to RK.
aND, AGREE TOTALLY about RK’s passion. He made films with his heart. And, thats why sometimes he made ‘mistakes’. Aamir is more cerebral. But, I would any day take someone who makes movies from the heart. We or speaking for myself, I was just talking about savvy and marketing skills. Aamir can be compared to RK only in the snese that thier iconicity goes beyond their stardom and acting.
As of RK is unparallaled as an actor-film maker.
Hmm I guess you forgot Maya Memsaab, Ek do, teen… etc!
When I compared their productions I didnt pick and choose tho I might have inadvetantly left out one or two.
Both movies(DB and BHTB) are getting good initial reports.
DB has huge buzz now, weekend can be big.
BHTB also has good buzz but there are few things.
Firstly it has less than half the release of DB.DB is around 1200 and BHTB around 500+.
Other, since its clashing, some of the better single screen chains are screening DB instead of BHTB where it might have scored big(my grouse of BHTB shifting a week ahead remains).
Nonetheless , i expect BHTB to also open decently.
DB costs are 32 cr or so, and big opening will make sure its success.
BHTB cost around 22 cr, has already got 13.5 cr from satellite, so as long as it does Nominal business, it will be safe proposition.
“…but Aamir despite always being an A-list star and of course in his own league over the past decade doesn’t have quite the same iconic element as a star.”
Couldn’t agree more.
And honestly for me you can take this a but further and say that if one really interrogates the films Aamir’s been involved in, they’re not exactly all masterworks or anything, but they represent, as you’ve said, a more consistent light within hindi cinema’s dark ages.
Looks like DB will have opinions as mixed as chalk n cheese..
it’ll either be loved or hated to the core..
Paul, a very senior and respected member at Mouthshut, has just aired his reviews.. He usually writes balanced opinions, and recommends 90% of the films he watches.. But this time, he seems to be terribly pissed off with the film. here’s his review:
these are many of the logistical issues that have to be taken care of well in advance.. as I said earlier print count isn’t as important as where the prints are concentrated given the kind of film.. and so on.. what happens is that with success everyone’s happy but these things make a difference to the degree of success.
Delhi Belly is getting VERY MIXED response .. and one thing is clear .. its very ADULT movie language wise and not for goody goody people .. use of F*** word for around 250 times in 90 minutes is BAD BAD ..
Twitter is filled with bad reviews from paying public .. only fans are posting positive .. this is getting 70% negative and 30% positive feedback from commons
Based on this .. i can guarantee .. DB will CRASH on Monday .. My prediction is .. 20 Crore weekend .. 25 Crore first week and 30 Crore life time .. FLOP.
It won’t be flop, Bollywood crashes if it fails. It will ebcome blockbuster like Ready.
Bbuddha they have underestimated its potential. Would have chosen proper date, even last week would be fine.
don’t believe DB will have any problem. Its target demographic won’t mind the language. Sure some family types that show up will probably mind it but the film isn’t depending on them.
Transformers 3 opened well in India by collecting around 2 crore nett on its first day in all languages. Its pretty good considering its a Wednesday opening rather than a normal Friday opening.
The biggest Friday openers this year were Pirates Of The Caribbean – Strangers of The Tide at 3.25 crore nett and Fast and Furious 5 at 2.25 crore nett. Figures for all languages.
The reports are not that great in India and collections are set to be lower on Thursday but it will depend how it does from Friday when Delhi Belly and Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap release. Going by reports the film may not have a big run at the box office in India.

But given a choice, I’d like to go for the latter

Double Dhamaal Looks Set For Big First Day
Friday 24th June 2011 16.00 IST
Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Double Dhamaal Starts Well At The Box Office
Friday 24th June 2011 12.00 IST
Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

June 24, 2011 at 11:08 PM
Top 5: ‘Ready’ stands at Rs 112.55 cr after Week 3
June 24, 2011 at 11:12 PM
This is a nightmarish season for critics like Masand, Mayank, Anupama, Rajasen etc.

June 24, 2011 at 11:56 PM
Lets see
June 25, 2011 at 9:23 AM
With 4-5 movies releasing every week Hindi movie industry seems to be indulging is mass production these days with no thought to quality . While it is an employment boom for the struggling actors and may also help the multiplexes to show something ,anything , new on their screen every time one wonders whether this mad craze of trying to ” last for the first 3 days ” by any means is actually helping to raise the standard of movies . In a way it is actually a releif that there are the regional movies and occasional good hollywood movies to break the monotony of absurd movie making , worthless scripts and senseless acting that seems to be the new taste in town.
June 25, 2011 at 1:44 PM
From the business point of view, it is good that we have so many releases. Actually, there are a spate of well made small budget films along with much hyped mega budget starrers. The economics, the viability, the funding process are some of the grey areas. And some films are absolute washouts. There is a lot of experimentation going on. Marketing, promos, item songs have become the norm. And there is always this friday fever gripping cinegoers and everyone connected with the art and business of film making.
June 25, 2011 at 1:59 PM
Ready has become a blockbuster. Will there be more Readies on the anvil? People are discussing about its blockbuster status more than what made it so. And Dhamaal has also got good opening.
Next Friday offers 2 item song type of movies. BHTB and DB. First time in the history of bollywood. Both have impeccable personalities involved. Once they represented something else.
June 25, 2011 at 3:40 PM
Go Arshad…Go Arshad…YAY….seems that just like Vidhya balan, whatever (film) he is in, is a success. Happy for him. Munnabhai. Ishkiya. Now this. Good, good!
Maybe some “A” listers can learn some lessons from the “chote” kalakars!!!
June 25, 2011 at 7:50 PM
Wont compare warsi to the superior Balan (interms of talent).\
Warsi is not bad but somehow suffers from a ego>talent syndrome like some others.
also has a sort of “SRK-hangover”(interms of being a tad oversmart but not in acting style though) –unfortunately his (lack of major) success has prevented these tendencies from getting overt….
ps—havent seen ishqiya but suspect my impression wont change…
Do remember a promo somewhere wherein his “love” was”lust” or something of that effect lol
June 25, 2011 at 8:33 PM
Warsi was born to play Circuit.. nothing else he’s done is remotely comparable.. including Ishqiya.
June 25, 2011 at 9:23 PM
I can’t think of any role of Arshad Warsi where he is not good. The guy is a damn good actor imo and is the best thing about DD take it from me lol
June 26, 2011 at 10:32 PM
June 26, 2011 at 10:36 PM
actually I didn’t think that after watching Sehar! I’ve only ever found him extraordinary in Munnabhai. He’s certainly competent otherwise but there’s nothing special.
June 26, 2011 at 10:46 PM
My commiserations
June 26, 2011 at 10:53 PM
the line begins with SRK fans..
June 25, 2011 at 10:22 PM
Warsi is a product of ABCL. Comedy has become his forte.
June 26, 2011 at 10:36 PM
He is a good actor…end of story. If likes of Saif (ugly lookers) can become “heroes” then why not my AW?!? Bigb is also good at comedy and other roles. Versatile/talented actors are like that. Did you know that AW was a choreographer before? He dances SO well. I love him in everything. Too bad that he would never get the “hero” roles like Saif or Aamir. But he is a delight in everything he appears in…similar to Paresh Rawal or any of those character (read real here) actors
June 26, 2011 at 11:05 PM
I remember his dance in ankh mare. Who was that heroine with him in that film? If you observe, there is a slight resemblance between B in his younger days and Warsi.
Dont compare him with Paresh Rawal who was born as middle aged shapeless funny thing born to make us laugh. Warsi is quite young and still has a variety of roles to play with panache
Saif has become a hero of sorts. But not yet the real bollywood hero acceptable for the masses.

I’m sorry but this is fuc%ing lame and tacky. SRK is mocking Salman from what I can see. I don’t mind what he does on stage but he should do his own thing not dance to other songs etc
See this and you will know what I mean
June 26, 2011 at 7:58 PM
and what’s with the look at the muscles ohhhh. Dear oh dear
June 26, 2011 at 8:00 PM
LOL. He doesnt have Salman’s style. Looks like he is jacking off!
June 26, 2011 at 8:07 PM
@ rajen – I have no problem with srk but this was too much. It wasn’t much the dance or lack of it but the way he did it and then he is flirting with the dancers. I hope am not going overboard here but this was not classy not by any means. I hate to think what the full version/performance was like.
June 26, 2011 at 8:58 PM
this is what SRK does…first he mocked Ghajni at the FF awards couple years ago and then earlier this year at the FF awards again he mocked sallu bhai. used to it by now. ive never gotten his humor. its just not funny. this his only way of ‘getting back’ because he sure as hell can’t do it through the box office nowadays.
June 26, 2011 at 10:19 PM
yes I remember that Ghajini and FF incident now. Anyway I think he will always be there at the top etc coz he is a MASSIVE star but such acts like this imo NOT COOL.
June 27, 2011 at 1:28 AM
June 27, 2011 at 3:36 AM
Because SRK is not a chota mota star like Imran and Ranbir. Many think that he is second to Bachchan. If bachchan starts mimicry, how will we take it?
June 27, 2011 at 9:50 AM

Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap – Box-Office Expectations
The film will take a good start at the box-office, more so in single-screen cinemas, but the Amitabh Bachchan starrer is pitted against two other films (Delhi Belly and Transformers: Dark Of The Moon) which will also take good start at the box-office. So, Bbuddah… will have to rough it out at the box-office.

IBOS:

Nahata on the opening of DB, BBuddah, Transformers
June 28, 2011 at 9:04 AM

June 29, 2011 at 10:59 AM
June 29, 2011 at 12:27 PM
I think its going to post some massive numbers. The songs have done the trick. With the marketing blitz as well it will rock the box office. If the film works I would not be surprised if it makes 40 crore in first week.
June 29, 2011 at 12:42 PM
June 29, 2011 at 1:01 PM
For 40 crores some segment of the family audience will be needed. On the other hand a youth craze could make up for the deficit.
June 29, 2011 at 1:07 PM
If AB quotes BO numbers for BHTB on his blog, he would be well advised to quote only the nett as quoting gross numbers often comes across as a means of inflating or overplaying a film’s performance.
For people who dont look at this stuff routinely, it is pardonable. But, when there is going to be intense scrutiny, it is better to quote unquestionable net numbers only.
June 29, 2011 at 1:11 PM
No matter how much AB quote numbers .. it will be considered correct only if it match with BOI or close to it. I guess there is no need of any other source .. BOI is enough .. because all others are incorrect if they are quoting different numbers from BOI. So why need any other source if validation point is BOI only ??

Finally, the moment is almost here.
By and large the cup has already been awarded to DB by most analysts.
Probably with good reason. Hope , BHTB can hold its own and even surprise. I think all signs are good for BHTB. Its just how much of interest and motivation can it generate to translate the goodwill, nostalgia and sentiments to actually carry those people to the halls. Because,I think the ones who do go are going to come out satisfied.
June 30, 2011 at 9:16 AM
June 30, 2011 at 9:32 AM
Agrere. A couple more hundred prints wouldnt have hurt.
I think after the first debacle with ABCL, AB has become more cautious. A success ehre should embolden him and Jr in terms of release strategy.
June 30, 2011 at 10:01 AM
they are definitely preparing stronger groundwork this time.. note by the way how people who attack people for his script sense and so on when he does risky films don’t really credit him when he makes some key judgment calls on Paa or Bbuddah.

June 30, 2011 at 8:41 AM

June 30, 2011 at 11:27 AM
Finally i have a guy who is more optimistic then Uday Chopra…
June 30, 2011 at 9:33 AM
Aamir can’t really be measured as an “actor” alone any longer. He is a very unique industry force. He’s just becomes this colossal, symbolic figure in so many different ways (in so many different departments from marketing to production to direction) that a comparison with other “stars” (even if the stars might enjoy more fanfare or what have you) seems in some way reductive or pointless. The guy just represents something for which there hasn’t been a precedent pretty much anywhere in India. At least not one that I can think of.
June 30, 2011 at 9:45 AM
Was going to say something similar. His attachment to a film in any capacity is enough now to trigger some kind of audience. Depending on the type of film, and Delhi Belly seems to have a good sized audience, his films can command a big opening without him being a star in the movie.
He just has remarkable “street” credibility at the moment and his streak is quite relentless.
June 30, 2011 at 9:49 AM
Others are more educated in this but someone like Raj Kapoor comes to mind. To reduce the totality of his achievements by looking solely at his on-screen stardom is to do some injustice to his legacy, what he meant for his industry, etc.
June 30, 2011 at 10:05 AM
There is a certainly a bit of a structural parallel here. Raj Kapoor was very iconic as a star but even moreso as a director and a cultural presence. Aamir in a similar sense (though the comparison isn’t exact otherwise) is important as a star but has become much moreso as a producer/director and an overall marker of ‘prestige’ and ‘quality’.
June 30, 2011 at 10:20 AM
Kamal might make for an interesting comparison too, even if, as you say, it’s not an exact correspondence. Kamal’s persona was never just about “stardom” but about a certain kind of cinema and he was of course seen as a renaissance man in the sense of wearing several different hats. Of course more recently (barring his superb directorial efforts) he’s receded a bit but at his peak I think he helped write the narrative of his industry to a certain degree.
June 30, 2011 at 10:26 AM
June 30, 2011 at 11:05 AM
re.-Kamal might make for an interesting comparison too
….and Then he made Dasavtaram !! LOL
June 30, 2011 at 10:02 AM
agreed completely.. I heard anecdotally from some people who would otherwise not watch the DB kind of subject, certainly not with some of the red flags being raised here about language and so on but who are nonetheless going to watch only because Aamir’s name is attached to it.
June 30, 2011 at 10:21 AM
It is probably a sign of changing times but RK didnt have AK’s savvy.
RK was a genius but not above missteps. AK just seems like he cannot put a wrong foot.I think Kiran Rao also deserves a lot of credit here.
June 30, 2011 at 10:35 AM

June 30, 2011 at 11:07 AM
I dont mean that Aamir Khan has to fall in love with his leading ladies.
June 30, 2011 at 12:41 PM
Vatikala,
Dont get me wrong.
June 30, 2011 at 2:15 PM
Yes, Rajen. Aamir can definitely catch up as he has age on his side.
June 30, 2011 at 9:31 AM
Jokes apart, one makes Lagaan, Peepli Live,TZP,JTYJH,DG and DB
and the other one makes masterpieces like PBDHH, Billu and AKK!
Nuff said.
June 30, 2011 at 11:21 AM
I agree. But one acts in films like Mela, Mann, Fanaa and the other in Chak De India, Swades, Dil se, DDLJ…….
June 30, 2011 at 11:29 AM
What is so terriibly wrong with Mann and Fanaa?
June 30, 2011 at 11:46 AM
Nothing at all.. I just picked up movies I wanted to
June 30, 2011 at 12:43 PM
Hmm I guess you forgot Maya Memsaab, Ek do, teen… etc!
When I compared their productions I didnt pick and choose tho I might have inadvetantly left out one or two.
June 30, 2011 at 10:11 AM
Yes AKP productions have huge audience faith and big force to reckon with.
SRK productions are just like any random movie(the one’s he’s not featuring in).
June 30, 2011 at 10:17 AM
But i am hoping both are smash success.
June 30, 2011 at 10:21 AM
Lets see if BOI give verdict to BHTB as per release size as they claim .. At 500 Screens, 15-20 Crore should be Super Hit ..
But i know BOI will play his games .. by comparing 1200 Screen release movie to 500 screen release .. such a bastards they are ..
June 30, 2011 at 10:38 AM

Delly belly has all the prime time shows…. not good for bbuddha
June 30, 2011 at 12:12 PM
these are many of the logistical issues that have to be taken care of well in advance.. as I said earlier print count isn’t as important as where the prints are concentrated given the kind of film.. and so on.. what happens is that with success everyone’s happy but these things make a difference to the degree of success.
June 30, 2011 at 12:20 PM
Delhi Belly is getting VERY MIXED response .. and one thing is clear .. its very ADULT movie language wise and not for goody goody people .. use of F*** word for around 250 times in 90 minutes is BAD BAD ..
Twitter is filled with bad reviews from paying public .. only fans are posting positive .. this is getting 70% negative and 30% positive feedback from commons
June 30, 2011 at 12:24 PM
Based on this .. i can guarantee .. DB will CRASH on Monday .. My prediction is .. 20 Crore weekend .. 25 Crore first week and 30 Crore life time .. FLOP.

It won’t be flop, Bollywood crashes if it fails. It will ebcome blockbuster like Ready.
Bbuddha they have underestimated its potential. Would have chosen proper date, even last week would be fine.
June 30, 2011 at 1:24 PM
do agree that BBuddah had enough potential to be given an open date..
June 30, 2011 at 1:47 PM
Delhi Belly will not crash. Dont celebrate so early.
Just because it is being released with BHTB, one should not post such negative comments.
June 30, 2011 at 2:06 PM
Nope, wouldnt even gp there. I wouldnt want DB to flop so that BHTB succeeds. It has to fail or succeed on its merits.
June 30, 2011 at 2:10 PM
don’t believe DB will have any problem. Its target demographic won’t mind the language. Sure some family types that show up will probably mind it but the film isn’t depending on them.
June 30, 2011 at 1:18 PM
If Delhi Belly fails, so should movies like Ready. people who enjoy the nonsense in Dabangg should not be in a position to ridicule Delhi Belly IMHO
June 30, 2011 at 3:17 PM
haha tony who is ridiculing DB. Calm down and first go watch the film.
I will watch it just like I watched Dabangg and Ready
June 30, 2011 at 3:42 PM
I didnt mean you Naveed.. anyways I unintentionally included Dabangg’s name in there, instead of Ready

Transformers 3 Has Good Opening Day
Thursday 30th June 2011 19.00 IST
Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network
