Don’t like this new trailer except for that Bachchan line at the beginning.. The song is run of the mill for this kind of thing. Will probably be ok within the film.
June 17, 2011 at 9:52 AM
Liked it very much. Nothing here not be liked .. Number is foot tapping and video is excellent. Bachhcan as usual .. very cool
June 17, 2011 at 10:06 AM
Love it, song rocks! Great to see Raveena back in action! Amitji is too cool!
June 17, 2011 at 11:33 AM
not good enough…raveena looks ok
June 17, 2011 at 12:44 PM
Agree,it could have been a lot better but after watching the video I actually started liking the song which I wasn’t that into earlier.
June 17, 2011 at 11:41 AM
after hearing it at least couple of times was able to understand the lyrics… it should be alright while seeing within the movie…
June 17, 2011 at 12:25 PM
It could have been shot & edited much better..looks like last minute thing.
June 17, 2011 at 12:48 PM
I think you’re right because It was shot last week in like one day I think so it is a little last minute.

Satyam, Why Bachchan is saying .. Song promo .. for Go Meera Go ..
I hope they will include this fantastic number in movie and will not waste it just as a promo or at end credit …
Please raise this voice at Big B blog … This is very important ..
June 17, 2011 at 2:01 PM
It can’t be used in the movie because Abhishek’s in it too. I suspect it will be part of the end credits or at the most in the movie in a different form (which I doubt). But these things are done to jack up the initial. Some of the best songs in recent times have been part of the end credits. LAK for example.
June 17, 2011 at 8:41 PM
OMG, This shouldn’t happen .. I don’t think its such a tough job to find situation and fit the song in movie … What could be the song which shown in promo where Amitabh is dancing with some ladies ??
This song is such a fun ride that if not included in movie, audience will come disappointed … and if somehow fit in movie, will be high point of movie (Just like Paan song in DON).
At least you can mention this to bigB blog .. in fact STRONGLY MENTION.

IN general, found the early stage Raveena good looking eg in the paththar ke phool days –the movie with salman khan in her earlier career.
Not sure y she has been chosen here but maybe bcos any of the current actresses would have charged more and the age gap woouldve look even more pronounced.
She seems to have come back to reasonable-ish shape (considering she has just had a child)—so probably not a bad choice here but dont think she will have a role of any major consequence.
by the way–
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/bollywood/news-interviews/Amitabh-steals-Aamirs-thunder/articleshow/8888713.cms
The amitabh-aamir equation has always been a bit of an enigma and is intriguing.
They seem to be cordial in public but sense some issues deep down, But both are gentlemanly here in not raking things up. It is surprising that both especially Aamir could not get a project for the two of them to costar.
Again, the problem here seems to be on more aamirs front –suspect there is some insecurity somewhere for eg “height” issue as visible in this pic!!!
June 18, 2011 at 10:00 AM
Just watched parts of “salaam e ishq”.
The “dance floor” sequence of Anil kapoor was reasonably funny and the music by SEL was good.
This is apparently the indianised version of “love actually”
By the way, “love actually” itself has kjo-esque vibes and has multiple stories in an ensemble cast
Has anyone seen “love actually” here ??
June 18, 2011 at 11:45 AM
what’s with you and Love Actually? seriously!
June 18, 2011 at 11:46 AM
June 18, 2011 at 12:07 PM
Abzee—watch it and we will discuss. lol
More than the movie , it is the potential discussion that is interesting.
Im damn surprised btw how nobody here has watched such an accesible and bollywoodish movie like :”love actually”
June 18, 2011 at 12:18 PM
I’ve seen Love Actually 3 times, which is why I’m perplexed why you bring that harmless but insignificant movie up so many times.
June 18, 2011 at 12:26 PM
love this interview. just thought id put it here…dont know where else to put it. even in the early 80′s there was talk about video piracy. good thoughts by big b.
June 18, 2011 at 2:51 PM
yes I’ve seen it before.. good stuff..
June 18, 2011 at 12:32 PM
Abzee—nice to hear u have watched it but surprised to find that u veiwed such n “insignificant” film not once not twice but THRICE and all these “occasions “(that u talk about)u chose to stay mum…..lol
which added to the “pseudo allure” of this accessible and (as u said ) insignificant film.
Found it interesting as i felt on occasions an uncanny influence of KJO school of film making (know that cannot be possible–but thats what it ended up appearing)—perhaps it was the other way round.
Also interesting to see what happens when a writer takes to film making ( in this case Richrd Curtis)—he tries to fit in everything in one taut script.
Actually to give him credit, he manages an ensemble cast quite well.
Also, it is quite interesting that inspite of being a hollywood film, this one tries to have “something for everyone”—a trait typical of bollywood usually.
Dont think anyone will not find something of interest.
Also is interesting to see which particualr “story” did one like most. Whicxh one did u like abzee in this “insignificant” and “harmless” film that u saw thrice….lol
June 18, 2011 at 12:39 PM
An interesting “interconnections” map created by Richard Curtis here–see a wiki link.
Good for an insignificant film

June 18, 2011 at 12:51 PM
Hmmm-abzee “runs away” again!!!
Hopefully he is writing a piece on it OR is watching it the “FOURTH” time lol
Hope to get a brilliant writeup from him (as usual)
all the best!!

what viacom is doing i dont know.. but they are treating this movie as a small budget movie with minimal chance or so it looks like by the way of there promotions tactics…

Tv9-Amitabh Bachchan talks to tv9 Exclusively on BUDDHA HOGA TERA BAAP
June 20, 2011 at 8:48 AM
Youth will drive content in Indian cinema: Amitabh Bachchan
New Delhi, June 20 : He has devoted over four decades to the film industry, witnessing major changes in content along the years, but megastar Amitabh Bachchan has always made it a point to keep in sync with the tastes of youth, who constitute the bulk of the audience as, he stresses, “you have to listen to them”.
The 68-year-old icon, whose latest “Bbuddah…Hoga Tera Baap” releases July 1, says while he is happy with most of the changes, he still has reservations over the use of expletives and doing explicit scenes in films.
He says youth will continue steering changes in content – from candyfloss romance dramas to dark comedies, hardcore action fights, and hard-hitting reality films.
“Indian cinema will change with every generation! When we came in the 1970s and 1980s, people, the old timers, didn’t necessarily agree with what we did. They said, ‘What is this man like? In every film he has a frown on his face, bashing up people!’ The old timers didn’t like it. But youth seemed to like it, and so we went ahead,” Amitabh told IANS over phone from Mumbai.
“The modern generation now likes romantic and young films and films that show more stuff that is very prevalent in youth today. I’m happy that changes are taking place in the industry,” he added.
The veteran admits that sometimes he doesn’t find the changes appealing, but it’s hard to ignore what the audience demands.
“Sometimes we regret changes… I personally feel that the same kind of writing is not happening as it used to in the past. I just feel that content is not as poetic or lyrical. Some of the language has the use of expletives… it’s very common nowadays.
“I am uncomfortable using expletives, I am uncomfortable doing explicit scenes and, therefore, I refrain from doing it. That’s my personal choice. But the younger generation is okay doing it; so we have to go with it.
“But you know… how do you change the maximum percent of audience that is between 18 and 30? These are the cinema-going audience and this is the largest percent of audience in the country. So you have to listen to them!” said the actor, who is awaiting the release of “Bbuddah…Hoga Tera Baap” and “Aarakshan” – both as different as chalk and cheese. The former is a fun-filled film and the second one deals with the issue of reservation.
Amitabh, who still manages to give stiff competition to younger stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, and even his son Abhishek, has begun to feel a generation gap. Nevertheless, he finds it pertinent to keep a tab on the pulse of youth to make films that are in keeping with the audience’s tastes.
“I’d like to know what youth is seeing, what is happening, how are tastes changing. I see many films, and when I don’t like certain films and hear that it worked, I question ‘Why the hell did it work… because I didn’t find anything attractive? And then when I like a film, I ask myself… ‘Hey this film didn’t work? This is such a fantastic film!’ So there’s obviously something wrong with me!
“I don’t want to challenge the decision of the audience. They are going to be the masters in any kind of situation. I think it is a continuous process of wanting to learn what is working and what’s not working,” the nation’s most revered and respected actor told IANS.
Just like “old timers” that Amitabh mentioned before, the actor himself feels there’s a contradiction in his taste and youth’s choice. But he is glad to find some like-minded people too.
“There is a huge change as far as the perspective and the age of the audience is concerned. I like the lyrics and melody of the past. Yes, I also enjoy the happy beats and stuff, I genuinely like it. But I am happy that a lot of people are appreciating the soft and emotional song ‘Haal-e-dil’ from ‘Bbuddah…’. I am happy that there is a liking for this kind of song as well.”
Amitabh’s “Bbuddah…Hoga Tera Baap” releases July 1 and “Aarakshan” will hit theatres Aug 12.

Amitabh: I have tried not to use vulgar language in my career
Last updated on: June 20, 2011 16:59 IST
The Bachchan patriarch turns 70 next year but in his forthcoming film Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap, he is as flamboyant and colourful as ever.
Amitabh Bachchan talks to Patcy N about the generation gap — or lack of it — his relationship with his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan, with his own children Abhishek and Shweta, and grandchildren Navya Naveli and Agastya.
You look dashing in this film. What made you chose this film?
It was the character of the film, the look I have in the film. In real life you can see how I am — next year I will be 70. But because I liked this story I thought of doing it. Puri Jagannadh is a very capable director. I have seen his film Pokiri which was later made in Hindi as Wanted and Salman Khan acted in the film. I liked the film.
Ram Gopal Varma brought Puri Jaganath to me. Ramu told me he is a good director and I should work with him and he had a good story too. After I heard the story I decided to work in the film.
After hearing the story I also felt that we should produce the film and we all agreed on it. My advice was that we should make the film on a low budget – it cost approximately Rs 10.5 core. We have already sold the satellite rights for approximately Rs 14 crore so we have already recovered our cost of production. In today’s world, it is very necessary to do this. Films never fail; all films are made well, but sometimes because of the cost of making it, you can have problems.
It looks like you enjoyed making this film.
I enjoy all my films.
‘Puri Jagannadh is almost like a fan, which sometimes becomes awkward’
Tell us about your character.
This is the story of an ex-gangster, Viju, who is now living in Paris and owns a pub there. He is called to Mumbai to complete a mission. I can’t tell you what is the mission — you will have to watch it.
Have you ever used slang in real life, maybe in your young days, like Bbuddah hoga tera baap?
You cannot mix personal life with the character, it won’t be fair. I have always tried not to use vulgar language in my career, in my films or for my character. I don’t use vulgar language and don’t do explicit scenes because I am not comfortable doing it and plus I think my family should not feel disgusted with me if they go to see my films and hear vulgar language. I won’t talk about my personal life — it is too personal.
Did Puri Jagannadh write the story keeping you in mind?
Ramu told me that Puri is an admirer of me and my work and he is very keen to work with me. He is almost like a fan, which sometimes becomes awkward. Puri told me ‘I wish to see you in this way (like the character in Bbuddah) therefore I have written the script in a particular manner because we have grown up watching your films and we have seen you playing characters like this, therefore I would to like to see you like this if I ever make a film with you.’
‘People thought the film was on Gautam Buddha’
The original title of the film was just Bbuddah; then how did the name change?
Yes, the original title was Bbuddah and we added the tag Hoga Tera Baap. Then Abhishek thought that the whole thing should be the name of the film. In north India, Bbuddah hoga tera baap is not slang, but used commonly.
Also, the problem was that people thought the film was on Gautam Buddha, that’s why we kept experimenting with the spelling, but it was still difficult to put across the point that it was not about Gautam Buddha. I tweeted about it, I wrote about it on my blog, I spoke to the media but nothing helped, so in the end the change in the name in the title helped.
You have a very young look on the film; how did you work on the look?
When I spoke to Puri he said the character should be flamboyant and colourful. He is a jolly person but he has a little arrogance and attitude. So my designer worked accordingly. I have also contributed a few things to my look.
‘I had decided much before Abhishek was born that if I had a son he would be my friend’
How do you cope with the changing times?
Yes, that is a perennial problem with all of us. You grow up in a certain era, your parents and your upbringing is conducted in a certain manner. As you grow up, the things you learnt when you were under your parents’ care will always remain with you throughout your life.
My parents are no more but even today if I have a problem or issue the first thing that I ask myself is: what would my father have done, or what would my mother have said, and somehow we find the solution. We always get solutions from our elders’ talk.
But we have to move with the times also. The new generation is brighter, smarter, aggressive, more determined, very keen to succeed. They are faster, they speak and move fast, they have a cryptic language, they say ten pages of words in just a few- ‘yeah, that’s cool’. You have to move with the times.
On the sets of the film my average age is about 25 but in real life I am close to 70, so yeah, there is a huge gap. I enjoy the enthusiasm of the youth today. I like listening to what they are listening to, I perhaps wear the clothes that they wear and talk the way that they talk. Just being in their company is nice. That’s the way I am, I am not doing it deliberately, it just happens naturally, I like what they see and listen to.
I am pretty relaxed about today’s youth. I am sympathetic to their causes most times provided they remain within certain parameters.
I had decided much before Abhishek was born that if I had a son he would be my friend rather than a son, and the day he started wearing my shoes, he became my friend. So now I treat him as a friend. I very rarely look upon him as a son. I am concerned about him as a father, I would look after him as a father, I would advice him as a father, but when I talk to him, we talk as friends.
‘If I don’t know how to operate my phone or my computer, I ask Agastya’
Could you identify with the character that you played in the film?
Not really. I couldn’t go out and start smashing up people.
How was your relationship with your father?
It is a different relationship between me and Abhishek than with my father and I. My father was a man of letters; one always saw him at his desk writing or busy with his work. So there was a natural distance, not because he wanted to create a distance, but because we wanted to leave him to his creativity. But the relationship between father and son was just like it is with Abhishek and me. My father and I would talk casually about many subjects and have laughed over many things and many of the examples that he set for me in life I still use them today. One thing l have learnt from him and I have spoken about it many times is that Man ka ho to achha, na ho to aur bhi achha.
You said that before Abhishek was born you had decided that he would be your friend. Does the same apply to your daughter Shweta?
Shweta, because she was a girl, I thought that she should be given the space of a woman of the house. Women are very important elements. I had decided on one thing: that I would not differentiate between them. When I die whatever little I have will be equally divided between my daughter and my son — there is no differentiation. Jaya and I decided on that long time back. Everybody says that the girl is paraya dhan, she goes to her husband’s house, but in my eyes she is our daughter, she has the same rights Abhishek has.
You are very attached to your grandaughter Navya Naveli?
Yes, I am. They are masters, they are no longer 13-year-olds. She is like a grandmother. They are just unbelievable. If I don’t know how to operate my phone or my computer, I ask Agastya. He is eight years old and he fixes it. That is the generation of today.

Where are the promos? Interviews doesn’t help. Being Puri from South, no single promo got telecasted in South channels.
Something is really going bad with this one.
June 20, 2011 at 9:18 AM
saw an ad for the first time in the US (on Zee during Saregama Lil Champs). I only watch the music shows so I can’t speak for the rest but they’re not doing anything in the foreign markets for sure beyond the purely basic. When you say Southern channels do you mean in India or outside?
June 20, 2011 at 9:23 AM
both in India and outside. For telugu, we get the same telecast.

Hilarious stuff! especially the third one!
June 21, 2011 at 4:36 PM
These new promos are a hoot. The idea to poke fun at the idea is the best way here. Very funny stuff.
June 21, 2011 at 4:40 PM
It’s like the new ad Aamir’s done for DB where he himself appears. Loved that too.
June 21, 2011 at 4:44 PM
Yes – I think for BHTB, these types of promos will definitely target the youth. As much as both films like to deny I think they are cutting into some similar audiences. Especially with this type of promotion, relying on quite funny poking gestures at the source of the relative stars success (Big B – angry man persona, Aamir – goodwill of his production house), most likely the youth segment will thrive on this kind of promotion.
June 21, 2011 at 4:45 PM
The first two are the best ……bring them on… where is the one with Abhishek ???
June 21, 2011 at 4:48 PM
that will be next.. this is something Balki did impromptu without being asked to..
June 21, 2011 at 4:49 PM
that is very nice of him, dheere dheere se buzz ko banana, dheere dheere se super hit banana….
June 21, 2011 at 5:11 PM
LOL! well phrased..!
June 21, 2011 at 5:06 PM
Perfect promos by Balki. The kind of self-depricating tone adopted here is the perfect way to highlight the film. I would like to think the ducks are lined up here.
If Puri has packed a punch in the film, it should work big time.

i was surprised to read today’s Bachchan’s blog where he talked about having Bachchan name being carried forward. Is he sure that it is a boy? Because the girl will not usually carry forward the name after marriage as Shweta is known as Shweta Nanda. I know Bachchans will be as happy to welcome a baby girl. Especially one by the very beautiful Aishwarya. A baby girl who will be more beautiful and accomplished. The best.
June 22, 2011 at 1:46 AM
Vatikala…. it seems they know it is boy!!!!
it is kahawat/muhawara .. but reading from this paragraph from bachchan Sir’s blog..
…Thank you all so much for all the blessings and greetings and the good wishes .. yeh sach hai ki pota Dada ke liye uska bachpan lekar aata hai .. wrote a well wisher .. ‘it is true that a grandchild brings along with it the child in the grandfather’ … and I could not agree more with this. On many an occasion we reminisce that the time we lost in not being as much as we wanted to with our children, could somehow be compensated. Well, this is that moment of compensation. To be a child again, to pamper and give love and company and all things bright and beautiful to the little one that shall take over all our attention in the days to come….
Let wait and watch
Amit

I actually think his daughter goes by the name of Shweta Bachchan Nanda….

Bachchan’s interview with NDTV? He announced that Shweta is the first Bachchan and he will divide the property equally between his son and daughter. Some other interesting inputs on father’s Day.
Kudos to Bachchan!

Big B to dub film promo in five languages!
By: The Hitlist Team Date: 2011-06-22 Place: Mumbai
Amitabh Bachchan will be dubbing the new promos of Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap in five different languages! This singularly unique move has the Big B mouthing English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Bhojpuri and Bengali! The star has often displayed his linguistic skills on Twitter where he greets fans in their local languages. Taking a cue from it, the producers came up with the idea of recording a promo in multiple Indian languages to cater to the varied audiences across India.

Bbuddah gets U/A certificate
By Subhash K. Jha, June 23, 2011 – 11:29 IST
As far as audience-profile is concerned the big starrer Bbuddah…Hoga Terra Baap is already one-up on the Aamir Khan production Delhi Belly. Both release on July 1. But while Delhi Belly has been passed by the censor board with an ‘A’ certificate (for adults only) Bbuddah… was cleared on Wednesday with a ‘U/A’ certificate.
The flamboyant new Big B flick Bbuddah…Hoga Terra Baap with the mega-star wearing the most colourful clothes and mouthing the most flamboyant dialogues was passed with almost no cuts with U/A certificate on Wednesday afternoon.
That means, kids can watch the film with their parents. The Wednesday-afternoon censorial approval of the film put to an end all the speculation about the film being too over-the-top for the Big B’s image.
Relieved with the censor certificate Bbuddah director Puri Jagannath said, “The censors loved it. They said it’s a clean and neat movie.”
Only shot was censored in the entire film.
Says Puri proudly, “It’s an action shot. It shows a small-time villain firing bullets in the head. That apart not a shot was censored.”

“I haven’t done action flicks in a while so I am happy doing it now” – Big B: Part 1
By Devansh Patel, June 23, 2011 – 14:26 IST
Amitabh Bachchan At almost 70, the original action hero is saving the world once again or let’s put it this way – At almost 70, this man has mortality on his mind. Welcome Amitabh Bachchan aka The Angry Young Man who’s just doesn’t seem to age when it comes to ‘action’. I meet my mentor, my inspiration at his office in Janak on the 3rd floor. As usual, I was at my ritual best. Alright, time to update you guys on my ritual. I’ve made this as a tradition now that every time I meet Mr. Bachchan face to face, I have to hand him over his previous interviews I’ve done in my London newspapers. It began four years ago in Yorkshire. Just like the many indestructible heroes, Big B has come back swinging in the ring yet again doing what he used to and does the best – punching and kicking the baddies. Mr. Bachchan just speaks what’s in his heart and mind. When I say it, you won’t believe it. But when ‘Vijay’ (his most famous screen name) says it, you know it’s the truth. There is awesomeness to Mr. Bachchan’s unabashed masculinity – the swirling gusts of aftershave, the shoulder-punching carousing or even more, who knows! Endurance is an essential part of his male code. His films too depict that in many ways. Dressed in his maroon track suit sipping his ‘kahwa’ with honey, he looked tough even though he was a bit down with cough and cold. I’ve always seen it in his eyes, yes, in Mr. Bachchan’s eyes lay his strength. He garners it from there it seems. For Amitabh Bachchan, it’s not about how hard you can hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. It’s about how much you can take. It’s what I call the return of the ‘angry young man’ – the tag, the label he was given by a journalist back in the 70s. Some actors might have been intimidated by the prospect of stepping into a role in an ‘action’ movie made famous by the legendary Amitabh Bachchan. And the only person who can step in his shoes is Bachchan himself. Well, we’re better off having you back Mr. Bachchan because nothing has changed, everything is the same, even the adulation – We are screaming and saying – We Love You Vijju! Go kick some bu** now. UK’s Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama’s London correspondent gets you Arnold, Stallone, Clint, McQueen, Chan, Salman, Hrithik, Akshay all packed in one: Amitabh Bachchan. The ‘Bbuddah’ never ages! Part one exclusive only on Bollywood Hungama.
You’ve done more action than stunt choreographers may have in their film career. Almost every action hero fan knows the name Amitabh Bachchan. What they don’t know is how the ‘angry young man’ tag originated?
Your community started it all. The line ‘angry young man’ was made up by a journalist back then. I’ve never contributed to it. I’ve never contributed to any kind of epithet. I’m just happy being an artist and doing my job. But I’m sure he must’ve felt that my name had to have a tag line. So all these lovely names and sentences that are constructed by the media, well, I’m living by it (smiles).
The line ‘angry young man’ was made up by a journalist back then
Sir you’re taking our memories back to your alive and kicking days…honestly, did you remember your Agneepath, Hum, Mard, Sholay, Amar Akbar Anthony, Khuda Gawah days?
One doesn’t work with this kind of intention that I must do this because I did this then. I’d like to treat every role according to the way it has been written and constructed by the director. Then they guide me and tell me how they want it. If there are certain additions that I want to do and if it is acceptable, then I do it. If there are things that I don’t like, I share it with my director and come out with a solution. By and large, I would like to follow the captain of the ship and I don’t follow what I have done in the past. Yes, I haven’t done any action flicks since those days so I am happy doing it now.
Amitabh Bachchan I’ve seen this distinctive affinity that AB Corp has for subjects, stories or scripts, whatever you call …diverse and never tried and tested before – Paa, Bbuddah… Hoga Terra Baap, will that trend continue Mr. Bachchan?
We aren’t making any deliberate effort to do that. If Paa and Bbuddah have happened to be never tried or tested then it is purely coincidental. A happy coincidence actually (smiles). I think it’s wonderful to be able to have a bit of diversity in what we do. It lends a lot of credence to our work as professionals. Yes, it also adds a little to the profile of the company because we feel that we are ready to experiment with new ideas and thoughts. I don’t think AB Corp goes out looking for something unique. If it happens and we feel that this is something that we’d want to associate ourselves with, and provided it is done within the kind of budget that is allocated then we go ahead and do it.
…but honestly, when you do action, does it take you back to your Coolie days?
Well, there is always a fear of getting hurt and one is conscious about that. One takes precautions. I will not say that we weren’t conscious of this earlier on. Even the incident in Coolie was something that was so a regular stunt. The day before the horrific incident, I had done a couple of stunts myself like jumping off the bridge on the train, from the running train on the trolley on the platform and that trolley moves down the staircase and I fall. All this and I never had a scratch. But one small punch up scene got me in deep trouble. You get hurt sometimes. It’s a normal phenomenon but precaution is better than cure.
Your favourite action film from India and the overseas…
Oh gosh! I really cannot remember any. But some of the recent Hollywood flicks have some amazing stunts thanks to the technology. In fact we are in this profession where we sometimes wonder how it was done. Now of course, everything has become so transparent that we come to know what’s CG and what’s not. A common man wouldn’t come to know.
Some of the recent Hollywood flicks have some amazing stunts thanks to the technology
So how did ‘Sara Zamana’ song happened with all the lightings and all? Must’ve been a revelation back then?
‘Sara Zamana’ song was done in Kolkata at the Netaji Subhash stadium and we lit candles in the entire auditorium on the chairs. Then there was my dress that was a nightmare. It was electrically connected to 220V. We had to take a lot of precautions because the wiring had to be very intricate, the wires came out through the trousers stuck to the boots and from the boot it used to go to a plug really far away. We’ve recently done the same thing for Bbuddah too for promotions.
Amitabh Bachchan You have worked with so many film directors from Mumbai but what really makes a South Indian director different? I mean, isn’t their description of action humorous?
It’s not a bad idea to make action look humorous. We are faking it in any case in front of the camera. But it’s nice sometimes when you have a little ‘take it away from the intensity’ action (smiles). Many directors out here too have done that.
This is Abhishek Bachchan’s film too as much as it is yours. What inputs did Abhi give in the making of Bbuddah? And did you both talk it out?
Abhishek ‘Ok’ed the idea of the story and of course the budgeting. He made sure that everything was done in the right budget. He gave his inputs in the marketing too, ideas for promotions and stuff like that.
Where the whole world is going gaga about ‘action’ I want to know more about your ‘Jackson’ moves sir. Spill the beans…How was it to shake a leg after ‘Shava Shava’?
(Laughs) Yes, it’s been a long time since I shook a leg. Plus, age has also cropped up. I shudder at the thought of having to do a song. Once you have committed yourself, then I guess you have to give yourself in completely and you go along with what the choreographer has to say. But a lot of modern technology of how you shoot a song or an action sequences have taken care of a lot of concerns that we’ve had as far as performances are concerned. Everybody peps you up on the sets and your legs start to move instantly. I loved every bit of it. I was in the mood of dancing and doing action and as Puri rightly said, I couldn’t just stop myself (laughs).
I am going to name one action star and you need to quirkily describe them in your own way:
Arnold Shwarzenegger
He has a tremendous body. Great situations were written for him I feel. You know, to give that kind of look, dialogue and what he does. He is almost a super human. In Terminator, the action was the best.
Amitabh Bachchan Slyvester Stallone
I loved the entire Rocky series. How can anyone forget that? I loved every part and the makers made sure that all of them were one notch higher in action than the other.
Salman Khan
I saw Dabangg. It was a very well shot film and I liked what Salman did in it to justify his character. He was very good in Dabangg.
Akshay Kumar
Akshay has done many films with me. But he is known more for his ‘Khiladi’ series as far as action is concerned. He is very versatile in action too. He does all his stunts himself, he is very athletic too and I like that.
Jackie Chan
He is the only action hero who brings out the humour in his action. That’s his forte and he is very good in it. But the comedian is always the more difficult thing to do. In the circus, the joker is the most talented person. Jackie is that joker.
Clint Eastwood
All his Western classics. For A Few Dollars More, The Good The Bad And The Ugly, etc. Those were cool movies. Then there was this movie where he was looking for some killer where he stalked him. I can’t recall these names now even (laughs).
Hrithik Roshan
Hrithik in Krrish is the only action film I remember. He was good in both the parts.
Amitabh Bachchan Steve McQueen
Oh yes! The Great Escape. Did you see that movie? He was terrific in that. It was about the American prisoners of War and how they escape from a Nazi camp. Superb movie. The Magnificent Seven too. Almost everyone was a first timer in that film but look at the galaxy of stars in that film. After that, they all became huge stars in Hollywood. Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, etc were too good.
Harrison Ford
Harrison Ford and his series of films that he has done as Indiana Jones and then who can forget Star Wars?
Amitabh Bachchan
(Laughs) I don’t know which action movie I should name but I think that the intensity in Deewar was quite strong. The funny part was that there was only one action scene in the film.

“I’ve never said that I won’t do ‘action’ movies” – Amitabh Bachchan: Part 2
By Devansh Patel, June 25, 2011 – 11:53 IST
This man doesn’t stay out of headlines does he? Now if we look back at Manmohan Desai’s Amar Akbar Anthony, it was the first time that our angry young man got his first comic infusion in his anger. It all started with the ‘mirror’ scene in the film. That’s the first time we saw Amitabh Bachchan doing action and comedy together that got the industry noticing his comic timings. So intense is his passion for acting and meticulous his approach to the craft, that an Amitabh Bachchan film is a rare event. Bbuddah… Hoga Terra Baap is no different. While he may appear a bit rough, his demeanour is courtly. You have to possess something utterly to push it away, and whether it is his extreme good looks, which he obscures beneath the trappings of his cultured background, which he is proud of, Mr Bachchan has an intense attraction to the opposite of whatever he came by easily. He is particularly compelled by the idea of spontaneity, but there is nothing sloppy or haphazard about him and that lends him a quality of grace. “Paa and Bbuddah aren’t roles I look out for. They just come and I instantly have this feeling of – Yes I should do it”, he tells me. Well, we all do the same when it comes to interviewing him, don’t we? ‘Yes I should do it’ pops out instantly when we hear the name Amitabh Bachchan, no matter what part of the world we are in. In Part 2 of this exclusive interview UK’s Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama’s London correspondent continues his talk with the man who can merely be described even today in one word: SEXY. Can we just move ahead from the ‘Angry Young Man’ tag for once?
I remember you talking about ‘costing’… the most important facet in movie making. Has it in today’s time sir surpassed content?
No, it never can. There is no harm in considering costs when you make a film. Some films, if they are extravagant in their settings, you really cannot compromise. By and large, we wanted to keep our budgets in a very controlled fashion. We made Paa in 15 crores and Bbuddah in 10 crores and sold the satellite rights for 13.5 crores. At least our costs are covered. There is a certain comfort when you do that. Everything else that happens in the theatrical is our profits. But yes, if we want to make a film that’d cost us 20 to 30 crores then we will take a conscious decision on that. If the subject demands high cost and we feel that we can recover it from the market, then we’d want to try that also.
Amitabh Bachchan When do you feel Mr. Bachchan that Bbuddah is much more than just the script? It’s a film that needs to be produced too?
I think that somewhere in our minds we estimate that this is something that we want to get associated with, not just as an actor but as a production house too. We sense that the film has a potential of a better commercial business. That’s when we decide to go ahead and do it.
With so much buzz around the film, please throw some light onto your ‘twitter extended family’ too. One of them said…even Salman won’t punch like you when he’ll be in his 60′s. What sort of comments have you been receiving and is it a lesson learnt?
(Laughs) Well, I have been receiving something similar to this. Everyone’s really excited about the fact that at this age I’m still doing action. I have never walked away from ‘action’ films. I still feel that if I can do it, I will do it. I’ve never looked at it the way some outsider or the media would look at it saying that I am too old to do action. If I feel comfortable doing it, not looking incongruous, etc then I’ll go for it. I think that is what is reflected in the promos so far and I’m happy with that.
In Jhoom Barabar Jhoom too you used a bit of your own collection from your wardrobe….in Bbuddah, how much of the wardrobe are you wearing?
You are right! A large percentage of the wardrobe in Bbuddah is mine. The sunglasses, the watches, the suits, etc. I like wearing those clothes. I don’t see anything wrong with that. I don’t know why a particular set of clothing should be designated to a certain age group. I am happy wearing them and I’ll wear them.
Romancing Raveena….I’m sure you never used the word ‘Raapchik Raveena’ did you… when you saw her?
(Laughs) No I haven’t used that word. She is a terrific artist. It’s wonderful to have her back. She is playing a wonderful little role in the film. I can’t say much about it obviously because of the leakage of the story. But let me tell you that she is a very valuable asset to the film.
Amitabh Bachchan Mr. Bachchan you’ve been there done that…and doing that, with a vast resume of different genres and inshallah more to follow…do roles like Paa and Bbuddah make you feel on top of the world or they’re just roles that come and go?
I’d rather be happy with my selection. I don’t know what it is that inspires me to do these kinds of films. It’s just instincts. Now if this is being looked at and deeply analysed as some kind of a much practiced decision then they are all wrong because I don’t plan anything. It just happens. I am not consciously taking decisions to do something different each time. I am happy that I am getting work at this age. It keeps me occupied. I like to be in front of the cameras. I enjoy what I do and that’s why I do it.
What about your experience working with Puri Jagannadh and Vishal Shekhar?
It’s been a fabulous experience working with Puri Jagannadh. He has a great amount of discipline. The film was very well planned and shot within two months. And in the next month and a half we are releasing the film. It speaks a lot about the management skills and the discipline that comes from the South Indian cinema who I’ve always believed to be a lot more efficient in their craft. I am very happy with the music done by Vishal and Shekhar. The music is very diverse. There is a soft melody called ‘Haal E Dil’, there is a medley of my old songs that’s club beat. Then there is a Dub-Step version too of Bbuddah title track.
And one important advice to all the people suffering from BP and Sugar?
(Laughs) Stop the sweets guys! It’s not good. Stay fit and fine
June 24, 2011 at 4:31 PM
just saw “haal e dil”.
easily the best part of Buddha ive seen till now..
Somewhere midway through the song , feel that Vishal shekhar ( or whoever is the music director) create a technical error in sound mixing–believe this track has been recorded in parts by bachchan.
The change in “orchestra” & mixing midway is not intentional (Unlke in the case of ar rahman where it is achieved to the level of art—-even loy mendonsa of SEL is good at it)
Nonetheless a very good effort from bachchan from a singing and even an emoting point of view.
Wouldve been even better if the music directors had not made this technical mistake….not sure if the viewers /paying public will otice this glitch though!
June 26, 2011 at 6:51 AM
Had lost some interest in budhha recently with all the oberthr top stuff qn wasn’t even checking the new links.
Checked “haal e dil” two days ago.
Now THAT is something ….
Bachchans voice timber is outstanding and so is the way he uses the subtle variations in voice delivery which anyhow he has mastered. Over the ages, he has given many a masterclass in voice modulation and here he carries off an entire song with it.
As pointed out above, there are some subtle technical glitches on the part ofthe music directors midway .
But don’t think it will be noticed .
After a long time, a song that nearly made my eyes moist…. Nearly—- and that is a difficult feat….
A song I am definitely going to revisit many decades Later –hopefully along with the one below—
Wanna kick all those ever progressing rgv baiters who themselves are neck deep in mediocrity— kudos to rgv and vbhardwaj for getting Amitabh in this song…peerless

Couple of days ago, purposely and naughtily,Showed the latest Buddha clips to a senior collegue who is half indian including “haal e dil” and “pulled his leg”as to how young he still looked.seems he took it seriously!!
Since then, he has been roaming around with a different attitude (&attire) and even making passes at some much younger colleagues (something that I should be doing) lol
Hope he doesn’t get in2 trouble….lol
But anyhow –’enjoying the fun—Hahahaha

How to become the worlds no1 star by saying “no’.
The Importance of Being Earnest
Tom Hanks credits his success to an ability to say ‘no’. If only more people would follow their instincts and only do work they believe in
4
TAGGED UNDER | Hollywood | Tom Hanks | Larry Crowne
For me, what truly made Tom Hanks special was his take on life and making movies
One of the reasons I became a journalist was so that I could legitimately ask strangers intrusive questions. I have a great curiosity about human beings, especially those who create movies. I want to know what drives them, what keeps them up at night, what fires their imaginations and what makes them successful. For me, the best interviews are those that become life lessons. I come away with insights that propel me to do better.
One such was Tom Hanks’, whom I recently interviewed at an event called ScreenSingapore. The hybrid movie convention included workshops, masterclasses and red-carpet premieres. The showstopper was the Asia premiere of Larry Crowne, a film that Hanks has directed, co-produced and co-written. He also plays the lead role of Larry, an affable man whose life falls apart when he is fired from his job at a departmental store. The 50-plus Larry then decides to reinvent himself by going to college for the first time. He takes a class that changes his life—of course, it doesn’t hurt that his teacher is Julia Roberts.
In 2009, at a Lincoln Center Tribute to Hanks, Roberts described the actor like this: “Tom can walk into any room and truly make you feel comfortable, make you feel like you have something interesting to contribute, like there’s a reason you’re on the planet. And that’s a true gift. That isn’t acting, and isn’t dinner-party games. It’s heart and it’s compassion and it’s soul.”
Hanks is, without argument, the nicest Hollywood actor I’ve interacted with. His enthusiasm as he met journalists was boundless. He seemed genuinely interested in the questions and answered thoughtfully. He was funny and engaging. Actors on media junkets often seem to answer by rote—it is difficult to stay peppy over 20-25 interviews—but Tom didn’t seem mechanical or rehearsed.
But for me, what truly made Tom Hanks special was his take on life and making movies. Years ago, when he was asked to explain his success, he said that the biggest reason was that he had managed to say ‘no’ to the wrong things. I asked him what that meant. He explained it like this: “When you reach a certain point where they actually believe that you alone can sell tickets, opportunities come in to make big movies. Movies that have directors that you wanted to work with or you get to play an archetype that you have always wanted to play. All those things are attractive, but they don’t actually add up to a theme worthy of having a movie made about it. At the end of the day, it’s not enough. Those films are hard to say ‘no’ to because it’s just so attractive. But I have been lucky in that I have been able to pay my rent, so I have been able to say, ‘I don’t get it.’ And if you don’t get it, how can you go off and take on the burden of working all those months and years and then coming off and then embracing it and talking about it, if you don’t like it in the first place. I don’t know how to do that.”
Only do work that you believe in. It seems simple, and yet most of us, out of greed or insecurity, don’t follow this. We participate without passion, which eventually reflects in the material we produce. But when a two-time Oscar winner, whose films have grossed almost $4 billion globally, speaks about the importance of being earnest, you tend to listen.
According to boxofficemojo.com, Hanks is the number one movie star on the planet in terms of grosses. And he got there by saying ‘no’. Point noted.

He’s Back
by Vajir Singh (June 18, 2011)
He needs no introduction. After all, he’s ‘The Amitabh Bachchan’. Here’s Big B in conversation with Vajir Singh.
The promos of Bbuddah…Hoga Terra Baap say ‘He’s Back’. Who’s back?
(Smiles) I am back. Dedh do saal se I haven’t had a film. And because the nature of the character I play in Bbuddah…Hoga Terra Baap is such that it is a kind of role that I haven’t done in a very long time. Not since the early years. That’s why the catch phrase.
Was it to attract the Bachchan fans?
I think we needed to tell them that this is a film that people used to associate with me in my earlier films and that is why somebody coined this phrase. So we said, ‘OK we’ll go ahead with it’.
It’s a story of someone who is of my age and is an ex-gangster and has been called back to Mumbai on a mission, and how he accomplishes the task. He’s flamboyant, there’s a slight arrogance about him but there is an emotional side to him as well. So everyone felt that because he is young at heart he will be doing things reminiscent of my earlier films.
So by ‘He’s Back’, you mean the Bachchan of the ‘70s and ‘80s is back?
I think, it’s more the character, that’s back.
Where was he for a decade and a half?
I was playing roles going with my age. I was getting roles that were either senior citizens, patriarch of the family, retired judge, head of the house and I enjoyed doing them. Puri (Puri Jagganath) came up with this idea and he said. “Sir, people would love to watch you in this role.” But I told him that I haven’t done it in a long time and he assured me that he had designed the role for me. Which I thought was quite unique.
It takes courage for a director to come up to you and say, “I have a film called Bbuddah…Hoga Terra Baap.”
(Laughs) ‘Hoga terra baap’, the tagline, came later on. The meaning of the title will be more apt once you see the film. It was actually Ram Gopal Varma who brought in the idea. He said you must work with this gentleman, Puri. Ramu said he (Puri) had been an admirer of my work and he said he would like to work with me and this is the kind of film I have.
Didn’t you think a title like this could hurt people’s sentiments?
No! As I said, the tagline came later on and because Puri being from Andhra Pradesh, not too conversant with the Hindi language, he was unaware of this tagline. But in the North, it’s a common phrase, we use it almost like a response to somebody you want to shut up. It’s a smart little response. It’s colloquially used too. And maybe he was not aware of that and he just wanted to keep it as Bbuddah. But when we told him about the tagline, he liked it even more so we went ahead with it.
I don’t think there is any harm in working on any title, which is called Bbuddah because until you see the film you will not realise. Initially there were some reactions for the title as you rightly said. Arrey bbuddah kyun rakh rahein hai aap. My reply was, aap puri film dekh lijiye phir sochiye. The moment the tagline came in, Abhishek felt that we should keep the tagline as the entire title of the film.
You have been very active on social media like Twitter and your blog. Did people object to the title there? Did you explain this theory to them?
No one ever objected to it. The media asked me why I had chosen the title. But I think the moment the promos came out and people started listening to the music, nobody started questioning.
Last time, when I interviewed Abhishek, he told me I had asked Pa to do more action. Was that the driving force behind doing this film?
No, once he came to know about the story of the film, he said we should produce it. And he was on it since day one.
So, Amitabh Bachchan, the producer, has taken a backseat and it’s Abhishek who’s deciding which film should be produced by A B Corp?
This is a family and everyone is involved. Whether, it is Jaya or Abhishek or Aishwarya. We take time and this is something that everyone wanted. I think my knowledge has not been so good as far as production is concerned.
You have never followed the numbers game, the one relating to money?
Yeah, I never did. Abhishek is the one who understood it. Which is why we took the decision to do Paa or another Marathi film or a Tamil film and he said, I am ok to do Paa but the budget will be Rs 15 crore and nothing more than that. For this, he said within Rs 10 crore and we finished the film within Rs 10 crore.
Why did Abhishek or Viacom 18 feel the need to announce that the film was made on a stipulated budget of Rs 10 crore and that they had already recovered the money through the sale of satellite rights?
I think it’s important for people to know that we made the film within this budget and we sold the satellite for Rs 13.5 crore.
All these years, people have said that Abhishek Bachchan has made it big because of Amitabh Bachchan. When you look back, he as a producer gave you a brilliant film in Paa and now Bbuddah… How do you feel?
Oh, I feel very proud, very happy that he has taken control of many aspects of the business apart from doing his own films as an actor. He knows what goes on in the market. I am not aware of how to market and promote a film. We used to just act, the rest used to be done by the producer.
You think today’s youth are very aware of what goes on in the market?
Seeing the youth, I feel I know nothing actually. I am quite surprised at the kind of knowledge Abhishek has whether it is managing a project or public relations. Today, every actor has knowledge about the business side, marketing side, how to position themselves, what to say, where to go. I feel very fortunate that I have been able to continue working when I see this generation working in this manner because I myself will get educated in this manner.
Can we say that Abhishek learnt the ropes of acting watching you on screen and that you are now learning marketing from Abhishek?
(Laughs) That’s a nice way of putting it. Yes, he informs me of many things. In that respect yes, I get to learn a lot.
We have seen the action promos of Bbuddah… Was it painful doing those scenes?
At this age, everything is painful. Everything is very tough. I used to tell Puri and the action directors, “Please, I am 70 years old. It won’t be possible.”
You’re 68.
(Cuts in) I will turn 69 in a few months. Then I will step into 70. So they said, “Don’t worry, sir, we will work very well and cause you no harm.” If you have made a commitment, you should judge all the aspects of the film. Once you are on the sets, you have to do what you are asked to do. But, yes, if I have to work in a film like Bbuddah… where there is a lot of action, then I will have to get fit. I increased my gym regimen and lost weight just so I could be more so-called ‘athletic’ on the sets.
It is the love of cinema that keeps you going?
Yes, it keeps me busy, I enjoy what I am doing. I look forward to the next day’s shoot. I still have sleepless nights when I have a difficult scene to do. I’d like to rehearse my lines, or how am I going to do it. At the end of it, when I face the camera, I go back and think about it. Very meekly, I go up to the director and say, “Sir, I didn’t do it well. Can I have an attempt at it again?” Many times, they agree and I go and do it again.
It’s unbelievable that you still rehearse after all this while.
Oh yes, of course! How can you go in front of the camera without preparation?
It’s been a while since you have worked with a South Indian director. The last time you worked with a South Indian filmmaker was for Suryavansham (1999). What did that feel like?
I have always admired the way the South Indian film industry and the people associated with it function. They have a very professional, managerial attitude to work. They are all disciplined. I am not saying we don’t, but sometimes we lack that discipline and then it eventually shows in our films.
Other thing is that technically also, the Southern film industry, especially when I worked with them 10-15 years ago, is very superior. They keep experimenting. In that respect there is a whole new generation of actors and directors that have come up. They are doing fantastically well and are making lovely films. So when you get a chance to work with Mani Ratnam as well as Puri Jaganath, they are very big directors in their region. I readily agreed. Working with Puri was an experience.
South Indian cinema never lost faith in making entertaining movies whereas the Hindi film industry moved on to explore a different genre, new-age cinema.
The box office is the meter to judge. If the film is working, they feel that this is what people want to see. Several directors from the South have made different kinds of films, not necessarily the typical commercial box office kind. But once the box office works, no one wants to change it. Kabhi yeh romance chalega and then the typical commercial film comes. It is the feeling of the audience that they want to see these kinds of films.
Come July 1 and, at the age of 68, you will contend with the younger generation’s Imran Khan.
No, I am not going to fight with him. Why should I fight with him?
What I meant was the Box Office War… Your film Bbuddah…Hoga Terra Baap will clash with Imran Khan’s Delhi Belly on July 1.
I don’t think so. This is more in the minds of the media. There are so many instances when films have released on the same day and they have all done well. I wish that Delhi Belly and Bbuddah… both do well. I wish that Aamir (Khan) would wish the same for me.
Have you and Aamir Khan ever tried to adjust the release dates of your films so that they don’t clash?
We have never felt the need to.
Is it because the films are of two different genres?
I just don’t think it’s important to do something like that. We just make films, there are so many other films, and examples of films that have released on the same day. Gadar and Lagaan for instance were both big hits and came out on the same day.
Speaking of hits, there was a time when you have delivered six to seven hits one after another. We don’t see that happening now. Why?
With time, the audience wants to see the younger generation. The older generation will have to step back. If you had an opportunity to watch someone younger like Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan or Ranbir Kapoor, you would definitely opt for them. The youth is the largest section which goes to cinemas these days. But there have been instances where films have worked. Baghban, for instance. Paa itself was an example. Then we had some of Karan Johar’s films, whether it was Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham or Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, they had me in the central character. But, yes, they had Shah Rukh as well as Hrithik and were very well packaged. So this is a very natural thing. It will happen with every actor, not just me.
Finally, there has been talk of all four Bachchans doing a film together. Do we see that happening any time soon?
I hope there is somebody that comes up with a script and if they do, we will be very happy to work together. All four of us. But we have not come across anything as yet.
June 25, 2011 at 9:17 PM
started positive feedback from DB special screening. As usual,Epic film and epic producer.
Bbuddha is in trouble..
June 25, 2011 at 11:47 PM
How? why both can’t do good? Is there a need to put the cart before the horse or why not cross the bridge when U get there?
June 26, 2011 at 8:21 AM
This version with Abhishek is an absolute hoot! This is the sort of thing where supergrossers lie concealed for Abhishek. And what he hasn’t really attempted after BnB. Perhaps the Puri film fills the gap.
June 26, 2011 at 9:17 AM
agree,he has to attempt this sort. I hope Puri gets hit with Bbuddha, though I am not confident.
June 26, 2011 at 8:48 AM
Bbuddah has been really dominating things in terms of volume in recent weeks.
June 26, 2011 at 10:57 AM
tweet from media researcher:
can’t say about Transformers. DB leads over BHTB as of now. But yes, DB seems to have peaked a bit early.
June 26, 2011 at 11:18 AM
not surprised because DB has a very strong youth demographic in its favor. I have never had any doubts about this. The Bbuddah audience is more diffuse, still not sure who will show which is why as I’ve said before I can believe a final 25 crore gross here but equally a 50 crore one. But if you asked me to take a call on this I’m confident this will do very well and probably not less than 40. Also single/double screens should be big here, something that cannot be discerned in the early trending anyway. I sense a wave being generated with this one.
June 26, 2011 at 11:25 AM
also think that the media will be positive on this (box office) if it works, whether or not the trade chooses to be.
June 26, 2011 at 12:04 PM
I believe it will do well at single screens, they should promote in small cities.
June 26, 2011 at 11:18 AM
And this is from Shailesh Kapoor .. A bachchan Hater .. And BOI friend.
I am not denying BHTB over DB, but this person will always speak negative about bachchans even if something is positive.
June 26, 2011 at 11:55 AM
If BHTB was being blown out of the water by DB, then he would have been very happy to report it.
I think both movies will do well enough to get Hit status but it is a little bit easier for BHTB with its small budget.
June 26, 2011 at 12:08 PM
Agree,Tyler.
The battle lines have been drawn.
The most negative feed back for BHTB is coming from Aamir fans who are calling the trailers and promos of BHTB crap and bakwas. Not surprising given there is a direct clash with DB.
There are isolated fans of the other Khan too making negativre noises.
I am sure there will be some Bachchan fans and neutral people too who may find BHTB a little bit over the top and in their minds, not befitting AB given his status ans age.
BHTB doesnt have to do a lot to get to reovery or even hit but I am looking for more which I believe is very possible. May be am eing delusional and AB’s time to be a mass hero has passed. We shall soon find out. DB should definitely open much better given the demographics but I think it is not your regular comedy.Should be interesting.
June 26, 2011 at 12:22 PM
The movie seems to have lot of humour which should work well with masses. I repeat again the age of serious stuff is gone. Entertainment is wht audience needs and BBudah should work for tht reason…
June 26, 2011 at 1:40 PM
jhakaas!!!!!!!!!!!!
cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
new promos are rocking!!!!!
felt proud seeing them
HE IS BACK..
Amit
June 26, 2011 at 3:10 PM
WOW….. this is the expression for abhishek’s go meera go video….
we should also consider that family audience will go for bhtb… and not for DB and transformers….
Also DB is not for small cities… and world doesnt ends in Mumbai and other metros… India has hundreds of small cities… The crowd in these cities doesnt digs at Movies like DB… they wont enjoy it…
June 26, 2011 at 3:14 PM
For example Kanpur… my hometown… people here are more aware of Bhtb… crowd of elite collages and schools… they r more into DB… but they have equal anticipation for Transformers….
BHTB audience is not that interested in Transformers… but DB has diffrent target audience… which may opt for transformers..
Hollywood movies like Fast 5 r racking 10 crores and more now… u cant underestimate Transformers… Damage will b more for DB…
June 26, 2011 at 5:28 PM
watch th whole video… and see how bollywood has become first choice for ” what do u think when we say India”… especially lat 2 mins…. dont miss on last 2 mins

June 28, 2011 at 3:23 PM
thanx jeevan and ted for the update. Hope buddha does well( and i dont mind it doing so at the expense of DB–although that is v unlikely)
Feel buddha is already a “designed” hit with the low cost etc..
But being a true blue bachchan fan, i wont be happy or consider it a real hit unless it really gets stuck in and is really liked ..(even at this stage of bachchan at 70).
As i said, we r not talking bout a “regular” guy here.
I again repeat—-why did buddha have to be sandwiched between dhamaal, DB and ZNMD like this.
Could it not be released a few weeks earlier–
ps–i do feel that viacom have done the cost effective peaking of the advert campaign at the right time.
ps2–also it seems a good and effective way of reintroducing bachchan to the new gen and also for stamping his “ownership” on the bachchanalia which seems to be up for grabs in bits n bobs by every tom idkc n harry in the name of “remakes” and “tributes”

Damn i’m in a predicament now. I was going to watch BHTB but friends want to go for DB. I was sticking with DB till I saw Kash views above.
Both the shows are 11.20pm on Fri and I really can’t decide which one to go for.
I think a toss of the coin is the way to go lol
P.S about the dilemma if you could call it that it is genuine I really don’t know which one to watch and before anyone says watch both naa only one for me

June 28, 2011 at 3:56 PM
@ Maha – Since when did trade analysts /critics prefer the Bachchans, It is obvious and expected that their taunts and negativity will be coming out sooner or later. However, if you note I said WOM, which means the ticket going public, will be strong, I did not say anything about these paid reviewers, I as a Bachchan fan foresee something that is coming after watching the film. Watch this space buddy. watch this space.
June 28, 2011 at 4:01 PM
“I as a Bachchan fan foresee something that is coming after watching the film.”
Sure. I’ve been hearing that here Bachchan movie after movie
“Since when did trade analysts /critics prefer the Bachchans”
They dont care whether AKP or ABCL. They are interested in the moolah
June 28, 2011 at 4:14 PM
“They dont care whether AKP or ABCL. They are interested in the moolah”
, If you look at overall BO collection of all time, who is the first one on the list? ahem ( I know that was wrong to bring in the 70′s 80′s angle here ) But for arguments sake, Lets look back at PAA, I would think that was a superhit, NO?
“They dont care whether AKP or ABCL. They are interested in the moolah
You are absolutely right my friend, They care about the MOOLAH, kaunse producer se kitna paucha unke khud ke bank account mein, You maybe be oblivious to the fact but it is the truth that many of these so called reviewers and trade analysts are perk hoggers , all they care about is their own money and if they are invited to their parties or preshows etc, and Bachchans are not the ones who entertain theese thoughts.
June 28, 2011 at 4:36 PM
I am not a method actor: Amitabh Bachchan
In a candid conversation with MM.com, Big ‘B’ talks about inhibitions on his roles, the youthful trends, outlook on escapist cinema and of course the excitement of to-be-grandpa…
Posted On Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 06:00:34 PM
He might be 69, but he’s surely not the Bbuddah of Bollywood. The man who made his mark in the industry as the ‘Angry Young Man’ is back with the same image, after a gap of 40 years, with his forthcoming movie Bbuddah…Hoga Tera Baap.
Still from the movie ‘Bbuddah…Hoga Tera Baap’
What is this film all about?
My character in the film is called Viju, he’s an ex-gangster from the city. As far as his character is concerned, he’s flamboyant, arrogant and edgy, but at the same time, he is a very cool and relaxed kind of a guy. He’s been living in Paris and runs his own clubs. Until he’s called back to Mumbai for a mission. It’s a lighthearted entertainment film; there’s song, dance, humour and action. It covers everything I’ve done in the past, except that there’s a difference of almost 40 years!
Would you term this film as a complete action film?
Everybody calls Deewaar an action film when there was just one fight scene in it (Laughs). It’s about one’s perception. It does, however, have all the elements of a commercial film.
Did you have any inhibitions about the audience accepting you in this avatar?
I would rather pay more attention to the script, to the maker, to my own role and then worry about what the audience thinks. There have been few instances in the past where I have gone wrong. When I did Nishabd and RGV’S Aag, people didn’t watch the films purely because my roles were negative and they can’t imagine me doing something like that. While I enjoyed those roles, I think these factors do count. As an actor, I will have a desire to play many diverse roles but sometimes when I do something against the audience’s temperament, they do get disturbed.
How necessary is it for an actor to relate to the kind of roles he plays?
There are two different schools of thought as far as acting is concerned. Either you go through the methodology of method acting where you believe that you are in the character you are playing. And then you are reminded of this fantastic instance from the film Marathon Man where Laurence Olivier said to Dustin Hoffman “You should try acting, my boy. It’s much easier”. I don’t know how to get into method acting. There were few occasions in my earlier films when I perhaps tried something like that, but it didn’t work out.
Do you think the information overload about films during releases creates fatigue for viewers and readers?
The medium of communication has increased and everybody wants to use it. Earlier, it was only restricted to advertisements on screen-paper and hand-painted posters. Today, a destiny of a film is revealed within six hours after its release. With all due respect, none of the films are remembered more than a week or two later. It’s the rapidity with which communication is increasing that’s changing the way we think. Today, viewers don’t want to hear two-page dialogues, one line is enough.
What are your views on escapist cinema?
I went abroad for the first time in 1973 and since then Hindi cinema has been described as escapist. I feel (pauses) irritated. I want our country to be known as a developed nation. And often enough, everywhere you go, everybody in the west will pronounce our language in a manner that is convenient to them. It is always a comparison to somebody in their hemisphere. They call Shahrukh Khan the Brad Pitt of India. Why should they? He is the Shahrukh Khan. Period. Tumhara hoga yaar koi Brad Pitt, humko kya maloom. Usko bolo ki India mein aake Chinchpokli mein ghume, koi pehchaanega bhi nahi (You may have a Brad Pitt, we don’t know. Tell him to walk on the streets in India, nobody would even recognise him). I hate the word ‘Bollywood’ but now since it’s been registered in the Oxford dictionary, I guess, we’re stuck with it.
How do you keep yourself updated on the internet?
When people respond to me on twitter, blog, etc. and if I do not understand a particular word, I ask Abhishek (Bachchan) and he guides me through it. You know young people use words like “LOL and ROFL”. Kabhi kabhi toh pata nahi chalta ki yeh bol kya rahe hai (sometimes I do not understand what they are saying). And I need to be updated because if tomorrow somebody writes to me like this, I want to make sure he/she is not abusing me (Smiles).
And how is the grandfather-to-be feeling at the moment?
There is a feeling of continuity as my grandson/daughter is going to be a ‘Bachchan’
June 28, 2011 at 4:51 PM
Thanks for continuous update Satyam. Just realized Vijay became Viju in this movie!
June 28, 2011 at 8:17 PM
“When I did Nishabd and RGV’S Aag, people didn’t watch the films purely because my roles were negative…”
I didn’t see Nishabd but I’m confident that the failure of these films have more to do with the films than with Bachchan taking on a so-called negative role. He was hardly playing a saint in Sarkar.
June 29, 2011 at 8:11 AM
Nishabd was a fantastic film that didn’t deserve what it got at the box office… i’d take ab in nishabd any day over kkkg or mohabattein!!!
June 29, 2011 at 8:33 AM
Ditto to what Aby2000 says.
Aag was an atrocious film but the same cannot be said of the Nishabd. One of the better films to come out of BW and RGV.
I WOULD URGE YOU TO SEE IT. Its failure at the turnstiles can be attributed to the taboo subject and the discomfort of the audience at seeing AB in such a role.
June 29, 2011 at 9:14 AM
Gf– u haven’t seen nishabd!!!Surprised…

@ Jeevan, Sorry dude cant post to your reply.
Hello Jeevan, I would certainly love to do that, But I have never written a piece on anything let alone a review for a Bachchan movie (not that I dont have my own take on it). It’s just that I dont have the command over language as say Satyam, Abzee and many others here. And if I do write something I dont want to turn people off by my bad writing and deprive them of a good movie. That needs to be wtached first day first show, which you can tell your grand kids about that hey “i was there on first day” now thats the impact I had on this one. Nuff said of the movie I guess. Go watch it dude. You will NOT be dissappointed by any strtech.
