Circa 1983, Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor shared screen space in Manmohan Desai’s blockbuster Coolie. 28 years later, the stars will reunite for Sudhir Mishra’s directorial venture Mehrunnisa. And that’s not all. The project produced by Nikhil Advani will also have the actors’ sons Abhishek and Ranbir making cameo appearances, making it one of Sudhir’s most ambitious project till date.

This was something that was waiting to happen. We are indeed talking about the phenomenal rise of Anna Hazare’s campaign, a ‘subject’ that will definitely make an immensely interesting material for the silver screen! And it’s none other than director Prakash Jha who is at the helm of things. Looking at the track record of his films so far, plus the success of the recently released Aarakshan, Prakash Jha has become someone who can aptly be trusted to do full justice to topical issues.

If what we’re watching on TV is indeed a revolution, then it has to be one of the more embarrassing and unintelligible ones of recent times. For now, whatever questions you may have about the Jan Lokpal Bill, here are the answers you’re likely to get: tick the box — (a) Vande Mataram (b) Bharat Mata ki Jai (c) India is Anna, Anna is India (d) Jai Hind.
For completely different reasons, and in completely different ways, you could say that the Maoists and the Jan Lokpal Bill have one thing in common — they both seek the overthrow of the Indian State. One working from the bottom up, by means of an armed struggle, waged by a largely adivasi army, made up of the poorest of the poor. The other, from the top down, by means of a bloodless Gandhian coup, led by a freshly minted saint, and an army of largely urban, and certainly better off people. (In this one, the Government collaborates by doing everything it possibly can to overthrow itself.)

Shahrukh visits ‘God’s own country’

Bollywood Badshah Shahrukh Khan had recently been in Kerala for an inaugural function.
The King Khan was invited to launch ‘The Raviz’, a five-star hotel property with seven star facilities standing on the banks of the Ashtamudi Lake in suburban Kollam, yesterday. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurated the function while Malayalam superstars Mohanlal, Mammooty and filmmaker Priyadarshan were among the special invitees.
Johnson passes away..

Johnson was known as the melody maker who made his debut with Bharathan’s Aaravam in early 70’s. His combination with Bharathan and later with Padmarajan produced many memorable hits like Namukku Parkan Munthiri Thopukkal, Njan Gandharavan and many others.

Freida Pinto in Tess adaptation

Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto is set to star in Trishna, a movie adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s famous novel Tess of the d’Urbervilles. While the original novel was set in the British countryside but the adaptation will have an Indian backdrop. Fresh from the strong opening of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the 26-year-old actress is ready to head into leading lady status with this Michael Winterbottom-directed film, The Hollywood Reporter said.
