It is an average movie, released at right time with three full weeks ahead. There were rumours Akshay will do the Hindi version.
It is not a typical Mahesh’s movie, just timing and comedy has proved again.
In other words you seem to be saying that this a Chandramukhi (Rajni) sort of hit for Mahesh Babu. He gets a big one after quite sometime, certainly establishes his initial but he doesn’t enhance his symbolic value with it. Am I reading you correctly?
Yes, that is correct. He is happy because there was criticism that he can’t do comedy. Ha has been trying from khaleja to get rid of that criticism and JrNTR’s strength.
i have seen this movie last night. it is clearly going to be the biggest hit of this year in telugu. dont think oosaravilli and kalyan’s next will be able to beat this. i agree with ted that it is more comedy driven, but even though some of the scenes look like an extension of dhee or ready, this is clearly the best comedy by vaitla
also the action is quite good. only thing is it 3 hours long and some times you feel a bit overboard with sentiment which doesnt really hit the right chords. the disadvantage with these 2 facts is that it will not have such a long run as pokiri, arundhathi or magadheera. its first week will be huge but overall it mafy end up making between pokiri and magadheera.
mahesh is following a similar trend since his first film. he used to have 1 hit followed by 2 flops until okkadu. after that he had 3 flops and 2 blockbusters. infact they were both biggest hits of the respective years they were released just as okkadu was the biggest hit of its year. after pokiri he had another 3 flops, which means it is a good omen for businessman.
Dhookudu literally means jumping. But they use it as ‘Over enthusiastic’ or Over energetic, eager etc. . Means if u r very energetic / enthusiast, you will be jumping…something like that.
This is for the first time Mahesh is receiving this kinda response in his entire career, though the movie lacks the content the collections speak otherwise. The openings might be strong due to no big releases, holiday season,pre-release hype by producers, etc but it will end up in between 30-35 worldwide. The songs of this movie sucks. Nothing special in this film.
His last movie, which is a disaster collected around 17c overall and i shall agree that he is capable of turning out average gorssers to blockbusters when he releases his film simultaneously with other big heroes like Pawan Kalyan or Jr NTR or Ram Charan and gets this range of collections despite of the fate of the film.
you seem to underestimate his performances for some reason which you may know better. khaleja has 17cr worldwide! where is that from. i know it is an average fare and made around 30cr. definitely flop in terms of public opinion. the 2 blockbusters after okkadu i meant were athadu(2005) and pokiri(2006). do you not agree they are blockbusters.
Salman in ‘Dookudu’ remake?
By: Hiren Kotwani Date: 2011-09-30 Place: Mumbai
Producers of the original blockbuster give the actor top priority over others clamouring to make the Hindi version of the same
While Bollywood’s dream run at the box-office seems to be waning (hopefully temporarily till the promising Diwali releases), there’s one South film that has been garnering enough eyeballs to make it a winner in the overseas market, too.
Mahesh Babu’s Telugu film Dookudu has earned more than R 30 crore so far (collecting 82,000 dollars at a multiplex in Virginia, US), making Brad Pitt’s Moneyball the only movie to surpass it financially. No wonder, then, the Salman Khan camp is abuzz with plans of remaking the movie in Hindi soon.
Kona Venkat, who worked on Ready in Telugu and Hindi, and is also associated with Anees Bazmee’s No Entry sequel and Sohail Khan’s Sher Khan, confirms the same. “Sreenu, who directed Ready in Telugu, is keen to remake Dookudu in Hindi with Salmanbhai.
In fact, the lead character’s heroism suits Salman bhai perfectly. We won’t need to make alterations for the Hindi version,” he says, adding that their entire team was aware that the Dabangg star would do the remake. “Even Mahesh Babu said that Salman bhai would be the best actor for the Hindi version,” he adds.
A still from Dookudu
Interestingly, the Telugu Dookudu was written keeping Salman in mind. However, while the Mahesh Babu film cost Rs 35 crore to make, the budget set aside for the Bollywood version with the Bodyguard star is pegged at
Rs 60 crore.
Police problem
There may be a problem though as the protagonist in the Telugu movie is a cop.
“Salman bhai isn’t keen on another policeman role before the Dabangg sequel,” explains Venkat, informing that he is waiting for the actor, currently in Mumbai, to take a call after watching Dookudu.
He further states that if the producer and director decide to wait till Dabangg 2 is ready, then there should be no reason for Salman to decline the movie.
Ever since Mahesh Babu’s film released, Bollywood producers and actors are vying for the remake rights, believed to be over R 3 crore. But till Salman makes his mind, everything on the remake has been put on hold.
Weary of playing a policeman, the actor has ditched his plans to remake the Telugu film Dookudu, starring Mahesh Babu

His biggest commercial successes have seen him play a cop, whether undercover,as in Wanted, or in uniform as in Dabangg. But Sallu is reportedly tired of doing the khaki routine. As a result, the actor and his family’s plan to remake the Telugu film Dookudu, starring Mahesh Babu, has reportedly failed to materialise.
A source close to the developments told Mumbai Mirror that Babu’s sister-in-law, Shilpa Shirodkar, who was co-ordinating with the Khans, learnt about Salman’s decision from an associate close to the actor.
According to the source, Salman, who has played a cop in at least five films, was not too keen on repeating the act. Had he taken up Dookudu, the actor would be required to don the same avatar again. Added the source, “In Dabangg 2, which goes on floors in March, Salman plays a cop yet again. That bascially forced him to rethink Dookudu.”
Salman’s decision, however, has come as a major surprise to the south superstar and producer of the film Mahesh, claimed the source. “The entire Khan family had watched the Telugu version of the film and they were very keen on remaking it in Hindi.
Salim Khan had watched the film first. And then Salman saw it at Pixion theatre, in Bandra, on November 13. Salman’s sister Alvira Khan and brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri wanted to produce the remake. She had flown down to Hyderabad to finalise the deal with Mahesh and his wife Namrata. Either Sohail or Arbaaz were to direct the project. In fact, even the financial modalities were worked out. The actor’s decision to back out after all this, has come as a shock to Mahesh,” added the source.
