She looks so unconvincing in all of those saris. And have they actually tanned her? What do they have against casting Indian women to play Indian women?
“What a white girl, here too?!?! This is just getting ridiculous and offensive now.”—rotflol
C’mon Amy : what do u have against poor “white girls”.
Racism lol
Let them try putting a sari on–we may help em
I have nothing against White girls It’s the way they are being used in Hindi cinema that annoys me. I assure you that if it were the other way around, with all of the female actors in the industry remaining desi, but most male actors getting replaced by foreign models who did not look the least bit Indian, you would be annoyed too.
My boyfriend is not Indian, and I have nothing against mixed-race relationships. But when all of the mixed race relationships couples on screen are only between desi men and white women, that is offensive. And when the White woman is trying to play an Indian woman, that becomes even more offensive. And of course, there are several larger issues at play here that are the root cause for this new phenomenon of firangi female leads.
PS — with Tamil films, the way has already been prepared for years by the use of North Indian (actually, light-skinned) actresses as leads, whether or not they can speak a lick of Tamil. With Bollywood, the notion of “white” = “status” has dovetailed with the greater consumerism of the new economy, and the product is the stripper aesthetic (that is also directly imported from American hip-hop) — reflected in the dance steps, the back-up dancers, the clothes they wear, etc. [My own problem with this aesthetic is precisely the consumerist aspect: f___ing seems too much like buying things in this paradigm.]
That being said, it would be much too simple to just dismiss the phenomenon as problematic — it IS problematic, but the stripper aesthetic also turns on a certain “inaccessibility:, on the stripper being unavailable, remote, out-of-reach (which allows the erotic object to exercise power within this problematic dynamic). The item number makes use of the same dynamic (Sheila Ki Jawaani and Kajra Re, among others, make it explicit), which is why it also cannot be viewed SOLELY through the lens of female objectification (although it cannot be divorced form that either).
ami, i like amy jackson – in her first film “Madraspattinam” (tamil) – .dress and to me – emotes much better than most of the bollywood actresses – there is something raw and spontaneous in this girl….she is here to stay…..looks good in this trailor ….prateek looks weird though..
The use of Caucasian/ foreign girls has a complicated sociopsychic causation and may revisit it on another day when not tired /sleepy…..
Kudos and credit to amy for declaring about her “nonjndian” boyfriend(s)
And like u, believe there is nothin wrong with “assimilation”
Better for evolution And natural selection of genes lol
3 cheers for amy!!
Ps–idea –good points about Amy Jackson –didn’t know about her at all
It’s Ami not Amy, it’s getting confusing, which Amy are you referring to? And admit it- you would be irritated if this was the other way around, with Indian women and foreign men together onscreen all the time. If it was more balanced, I would have no problem.
And yes, there is nothing wrong with assimilation LOL.
the heroine’s name is Amy jackson – from UK – i am referring to her name ami – trust me, I’ve so far never liked any foreign actress in Indian films (including lagaan) – this is the first time, someone has touched me – and u have to see Madraspattinam for her heart-felt emotions – nothing extraordinary – but straight from the heart
Idea, that comment was to Alex I’ve heard good things about Madrasappatinam, and I will probably see it soon. I have nothing against AmyJackson at all, just this new trend of foreign actresses playing Indian characters irritates me.
Should have got Ranbir or Shahid to play the lead. Really cant understand how they would get the Mallu angle going here and Aaromale (which to me is a classic in the original) is going to get butchered. Pray.
This would have seemed like a really good trailer — were it not for the cast and for the fact that I think the original is Menon’s best film (my review HERE)…

After jumping through several hoops, the filmmakers of Ek Deewana Tha have finally been granted permission to launch the music of the film at the Taj Mahal in Agra. Mumbai Mirror has learnt that director Gautham Menon and officials from Fox-Star were initially declined permission to perform at the Taj, but when AR Rahman’s name was dropped, the authorities reconsidered their decision.
A source from Fox Star explained, “Initially, we were denied permission. It was really Rahman’s name that finally worked. We had plenty of paper-work to do. But, finally, at 2.30 pm on Wednesday it will happen. All the singers who have sung in the album – Leon, Jaspreet, Clinton, Naresh and Madhushree are performing as well.”
When contacted, Vijay Singh CEO of Fox Star, confirmed the news and said, “We always felt the Taj Mahal was the best place to release our music. Our film is a classic love story. And the Taj Mahal is the most romantic spot on earth. We’re heading there with Rahman and the rest of the musicians.”
Seems Rahman may come out with another Notable album Here
Don’t know much of her and haven’t seen any film of her
But ami Jackson seems interesting– has she done many films down south?
Is She popular
We may see her soon in Bollywood i presume (pending auditions lol)

Remaking VV seems to be a bad idea esp with this cast. The Tamil Mallu angle worked well in VV . Here it seems so out of place as are ARR’s songs

Looks like one my favaourite films (for personal reasons) is going to get butchered in this remake

This should’ve ideally been made with Ranbir and Rani/Vidya.
