Abhishek-Aishwarya in Masoom remake?
LINK
Himesh Reshammiya has been awfully low-profile these days. Quietly we hear he has negotiated for the remake rights of Shekhar Kapur’s 1983 classic Masoom which starred Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi as a couple grappling with the reality of an illegitimate son in the husband’s life.
The tear-jerker had melted hearts across the nation immediately establishing Shekhar Kapur as a formidable filmmaking force.
Now 30 years later, Himesh Reshammiya has bought the remake rights of Masoom from the original producers Chanda Dutt and Devi Dutt. The remake would be directed by Bedobrata Pain, whose historical drama Chittagong last year received lavish critical acclaim.
What’s more, Himesh has zeroed in on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan to play the two roles immortalized by Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah.
According to a very reliable source, Abhishek and Aishwarya have agreed in principle to be in Himesh’s remake.
“Now, the details are being worked out,” says the source.

Masoom was wonderfully done in every sense. As always in this sort of situation one wonders what a remake can really achieve. Except in this case to magnify the scale of the film with star wattage and so on which is not necessarily a great idea given the intimacy of the subject. Having said that it makes box office sense and beyond this is certainly a part that would be up Abhishek’s ally. If they were truly ‘sincere’ about such an attempt though Vidya Balan would be a better choice. Always thought he pairing with Abhishek should have been further explored after Paa.

Satyam: agree 100%. I dont think think the film can be improved in any way. right from the party song by Saeeed Mirza and Naser to Lakadi Ka Kathi to Shabana-Supriya casting to RD Burman’s haunting Tujhse Naaraz Nahin everything as perfect. Only a bigger, starry version can be made and one can be 200% sure t wont be half as good as the original. But okay, the new generation deserves to see the film with current stars. I think Abhishek can bea very good choice . But Vidya would have been a better choice any day. This husband-wife teams a kind of never work out. They could try someone like Ileana. But no, I think Vidya even now would be perfect. And they must get Rahman.

the other thing is that when you do the family thing (father-son, husband-wife) more often than not it distracts from the film. Now the husband-wife thing is still ok in the usual masala fare. But in a more narrative oriented film things are different. So if it’s Masoom the on-screen and the off-screen start converging. When there’s then tension in the relationship there is always the offscreen element that dilutes it in a certain psychological sense. Of course such films are usually made from the other side of the equation. In other words if the goal is to fashion the right film for this husband and wife and if it’s also about doing something more meaningful then the Masoom kind of deal becomes a perfect vehicle. So it’s about the stars doing Masoom as a vehicle for the brand-name than the reverse.

Masoom is the best film of shekhar kapoor. & He is amongst the best indian directors alive imo (when he does complete a film)!!
And himesh reshamiya is trying to remake it!!!
Ps: for a change, abhishrek is looking good in this pic –perhaps it’s the ash effect…
Surprisingly he is dressed up well here–good suit cut (not in the usual Abu Sandeep atrocities)
If he doesn’t have a naturally good dress-sense like his dad, why doesn’t abhishrek stick to the tested stuff.
Liked abhishreks ‘sarkaar raj’ look

I will rather root for Abhishek Rani. Abhishek needs heroines who complement him, not overwhelm him. Vidya will walk away with all media attention.

Some other pairs who can essay the roles.
Aamir Khan and Rani
Ajay Devgn and Vidya or Kajol
If we dont want stars
Ram Kapoor and Konkona
But the film belonged to Jugal Hansraj when he was a child actor. the lead pair was just supporting cast in front of him.

Yeah abhishrek needs heroines who can take it ‘lying down’…
Vidya seems ‘women on the top’ mentality-not for a-shrek..

“Masoom deserves a place amongst the top 10 hindi movies ever.” I can support that. And yes, Abhishek- Rani would be perfect. Better than Abhi-Vidya.

So in this new ‘age’ Masoom, how will the boy find out about his illegitimate dad? By visiting ancestry.com? Or by downloading some new app from App Store?
