JayShah’s Saturday Box Office Column – Dull Response To New Releases

New Releases

Fox, Aagey Se Right & Three

New releases continued to flood the market with none of them performing well upon release. Fox was the high profile casualty succumbing to lower collections then Aagey Se Right despite a bigger cast. Starring Sunny Deol and Arjun Rampal in a thriller, Fox made only 1.5-1.7Cr whereas the comedy Aagey Se Right produced by UTV Motion Pictures and starring Shreyas Talpade did slightly better collecting 2.4-2.5Cr. The other release, Three collected only 0.7-0.8Cr.

Past Releases

Daddy Cool

Sunil Shetty and Aftab Shivdasani starrer Daddy Cool fell by over 85% in its second week to record meager collections of 0.4-0.5Cr. The comedy is a flop with total collections of 3.6-3.9Cr.

Kaminey

Kaminey held steady again with a fall of around 50% for the second consecutive week. The Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra starrer has managed a steady run so far in addition to losing significant business in Mumbai and Pune due to swine flu outbreak. Playing catch up, Kaminey collected 2.4-2.5Cr in the fourth week to take total collections to around 41.7-43.4Cr – an above average performer.

Life Partner

Comedy multi-starrer Life Partner continues to do rock steady business into its fourth week. Falling by around 35% – the Govinda, Tusshar Kapoor and Fardeen Khan starrer collected 1.9-2.1Cr making its total collections around 20.2-22.2Cr. With such steady performance, Life Partner is an above average performer and looks like having an outside chance of making around 25Cr in total.

  1. Am surprised how poorly Fox has done.
Kaminey and LP have benifitted from lack of competition.
    Great stuff as usual, Jay.

  3. Thanks Jay. Your work gets more challenging next week with Dil Bole Hadippa and Wanted. 🙂

Was watching Dus Ka Dum. Salman is damn entertaining ya and I kinda like the sportsmanship on both sides because it was Rani and Shahid on the show and their films are releasing together. Nice to see them dancing on each other’s songs.

And is it just me, but I find Wanted’s Jalwa a pretty addictive number and some great dance steps too. It’s another thing Salman is getting old and is heavy on his feet.

  4. jay- wat a first half … utd and spurs always entertain…

defoe man wat a bycylcle kick.. shocked..

but then we had the control and rythm which was missing in whole season.. i the x factor is berba holding ball in the hole.. and scholes controling midfield with anderson

and who did have believed anderson to score..

    • Spurs played poor today. United were awesome, especially Rooney.

      • spurs just didnt turn up to the park… i thought they missed MODRIC a lot… and united i still cant believe it was we playing on the park..

rooney was brilliant.. but i loved evra and fletcher for their hardwork and determination a lot..

and harry was confused.. he should have put fourth striker on fergie would have went with 4th dtriker.. harry just got screwed in wat to do…

but stll its just a blip totenham can recover..

  5. Thorough as always.. Kaminey has been trending very well barring the drop in week 2.. which actually is not uncommon for this sort of genre..
