Ek baar jo maine commitment kar di…uske baad toh main khud ki bhi nahin sunta!

WANTED works and in a big way! I must say, I was skeptical about the film before it’s release. It could’ve gone 2 ways, either a total dud like the recent Bobby Deol starrer EK-THE POWER OF ONE, or turned in to a bonafide gem like Aamir Khan’s recent monster…thankfully WANTED hits all the right notes and tilts the movie in the right direction.

For a true blue masala film to really work, the audience has to completely connect and be in sync with the star and character to totally suspend belief as 10 men are killed in a matter of minutes in the most gruesome and violent ways. With GHAJINI, the love story worked in a huge way and people overlooked the violence factor. Here, the violence is presented in a totally different manner, the audience is hooked to the stylized “coolness” of the violence which Salman Khan turns in to an absolute art with Vijjayan’s mind-numbing stunts. And this is why the film works so well.

  2. Good review. Saw the movie yesterday, found it to be just average.

What didn’t work for me –
    Too much mindless violence.

The only thing that worked for me is Salman. He seems to have put in a genuine effort and the results are generally good; this one is a real treat for Sallu fans, as you point out. I don’t know his fan base in India, but the response to this movie is pathetic in US; I was shocked to see just 16 people watching the prime 5:30 show on Saturday, here in Seattle.

I think they could have cut down on the meaningless violence and given more footage to Sallu and Ayesha; they seem to have a decent chemistry, though Sallu looks aged; also they could have cut down on the comedy track, which didn’t work for me.

    • Agree on the comedy track! The movie is made for the front-benchers and should click HUGE with them…..I still think this will be a HIT!

  4. ‘I don’t know if this will be the next GADAR or GHAJINI’ – BO wise WANTED will be nowhere near those greats; may be a hit at most.

It is sad that we may have to wait for another Amir/SRK/maybeHrithik movie to set the BO on fire.

  5. Akshay, nice review. Surpringly you have cut down the words in your reviews now !

I don’t believe this will be a monster hit, but a hit it could be. I enjoyed the film overall and comparisons with Ghajini will always be there – I do think this is the best Sallu flick in a long time and he bagged a role that does some justice to his various on screen personos – I saw a bit of the Prem of the past and the action of the 90’s too in him. A welcome change from the usual Dhawan type of characters he has been playing.
