HAPPY ANNINVERSARY…

(APOLOGIES IF ANYTHING BELOW IS OFFENSIVE)

Firstly a many happy returns of the day to the blog…

[Ahmedabad]
I have always believed whatever happen , it happens for good (no I m not rizwan khan from mnik, neither m expecting anything good from my mailbox getting crowded from our bo thread 😉 ).. but it happened unexpected in a strange manner…

I still remember that I was browsing trough NG as usual and suddenly no comments from satyam, jay etc for few days.. it was surprising but never knew what happened.. and then came to know that they have left by some comment .. so I was very disappointed …

But then came good news.. in ng chat (or whatever they say to it) a guy called new guy told me about satyam shot and at first I couldn’t believe it… FOR ME THIS GUYS JAY, SANDY, GF, Q ETC WERE LEGENDS.. READING THEIR VIEWS ON NG (and also other ng people) had increased my knowledge on cinema immensely and gave me a new place to look for honest reviews and opinions.. I know many a times people accuse us of bias ..especially satyam and lot but I remember one line ON NATURAL JUSTICE BOOK (LEGAL COMMENTARY) WHICH MEANT SOMETHING LIKE THIS

BIAS IS BASIC TO HUMAN NATURE, EVERY HUMAN BEING IS BIASED BY ONE WAY OR OTHER AND HIS UPBRINGING HIS SENSE OF VIEWS AND COMPANY PLAY A BIG ROLE TO IT..

Ok I know u might think whats that legal philosophy doing in the middle of what I m typing to celebrate Satyam shots anniversary… then u know this I m not thinking while I m typing as of now 😉

Yeah so where was i.. yup so I first came here my initial comment I asked to satyam was can I comment here for free.. lol ..of all question I guess that was one of my initial worries.. ( I have always thought of satyam as a milliuonaire so that might explain my worries as I quote behind every great fortune theres money paid for comments ..) another of my query if I remember was my behaviour of like a fanboy in conversations with satyam, q, gf etc (though I still feel the same respect for the same..)

I remember the most warmest guy I always felt was idea.. and was so happy to see him after he had left commenting for some reasons on NG…

And yup not to mentioned always expecting a fast one from ILG (but that never came..) until till late I came to know rajen was ILG left alone a ahmedabadi!!!! Small world (though I still expect fast ones from him)

AND YUP sandy.. well first of all what a cute name for that comes to mind … I have been reading her comments since long.. and was really happy to communicate to her from Satyamshot.. and her reviews started to help a lot as she faced the crap movies every week in theatres which once I used too.. and save my pocket a lot..

GF .. WHAT CAN ONE SAY really what can one say… he rarely comments that to briefly as possible (really envy him coz me and satyam I guess require million words and this guy says the same in one line..) I still remember his suggestion of insider to me and I really loved it (one of the best movie I watched in past one year..)

Ofcourse q bhai… with him I had really great conversation when I was new.. I feel lately I haven’t been able to maintain the comments.. also his shabd review is one I cant forget and (nor the song link of ash from the same movie which didn’t work at my end but did at urs and satyams 😉 )

Satyam well what do I say except I haven’t reffered doictionaries more in my life that I had too in last one year… and my reading speed has realy increased a lot in last one year 😉 and as I said to my prof sir don’t ask me how I wroite such long answer ask mr satyam( I have showed ur esssays to him)…

M I FORGETTING SOMEONE???

Oh yup masterpraz… aka akshay shah .. (man now I hope u recognise me on fb next time) well hes amazing literally if sandy I thought wrote a lot and watched a lot crap movies unfortunately than this guy I think has written review on every possible movie on this planet!!!!!!..

And yeah JAYSHAH THE DISAPPOINTING SPURS FAN !!(spurs I still cant believe lost to wolves).. MAN UR SATURDAY COLUMN HAVE REALLY IMPROVED MY BO KNOWLEDGE A LOT.. I STILL MISS THEM… I now talk on bo figures as I m myself a expert.. lots of people don’t know the business a a lot but I owe all my knowledge to u and this site..

Well now I m seriously getting tired (I still think I cant compete in writing essays to satyam 😉 ).. so sorry If I M FORGETTING SOMEONE..

But personally thanks to all its been a amazing year… and I m really happy to know all of u… AND ALSO VIJAY WITH WHOM I HAVE GREAT MAN UTD CHATS HERE…

On departing note following is the analogy or thoughts or funny ideas I have of urs in my mind through conversation or ur avatars or whatever.. that comes to my mind for u from cinema..

(please don’t be angry if u hate some analogy or thought ..they are like just came to me about u in a instant.. about u guys.. with regards , rooney..)

Satyam- the architect of matrix…

a guy standing at the top of giant sky scrapper in some Armani suits with coffee cup in hand and still having civilised conversation with Mexican gunda abusing him abusing him and ofcourse having a sledgehammer or something in his hand

gf.. siddhart from rdb..

a scene stealer.. very few words .. but precise..

Q.. a messenger of god.. riding on horse .. speaking divine.. don’t know any such character but I hope u can help !!!

Rajen or ilg.. Clint eastwood with that background score from good bad ugly…

Or rajen or ilg… captain jack sparrow uttering the most insane joke possible..

Idea.. the eternal optimistic guy from hindi movies who always good and optimistic.. sorry don’t mind can I say shashi kapoor..or a young aamir khan who always speaks his mind and with lots of innocence..

Cool dude.. don’t know much about u dude.. but way u suggested something related to technology to me today and that I saw the core yesterday I will give role of computer expert guy from the movie who can hack into any system in the world!!!

Old gold.. the odd one out!!

Sandy.. an investigating journalist like konkanna in page 3.. and look wise I don’t know but I always imagine Natalie Portman…. for urs face,…

Sm… barkha dutt (I haven seen much of her lately) the way u argue or respond to any comment and ur no hold barred attitude in comments and replies (I always fear a comment reply session with you 😉 ) and look I visualise.. sridevi.. maybe because sm term i dont know why only brings her to my visualisation

Vijay.. man I always remember old Trafford.. when I communicate with u.. may be because u go to see the match there ..

Praz.. I have seen ur pic fb so I don’t visualise u too any character…

ABZEE.. IF ONLY HE WOULD HAVE BEEN HERE LONGER.. BUT HE REMINDS OF MY ENGLISH PROFESSOR WHO USE TO WERE SACKS KINDA CLOTHES.. RUN THE ENGLISH GUY IS HERE ..( HEY AbZEE ARSENAL WERE GR8 V POOL I HOPE WE HAVE THREE HORSE RACE..).. I LOVE UR WRITNG A LOT..

ALSO THANKS A LOT AGAIN FOR VARIOUS CONVERSATIONS AND THIS PLATFORM AND CHEERS TO ALL OF US FOR MAKING THIS HAPPEN… I HAVE LEARNT A LOT FOR CINEMA FROM HERE.. BOX OFFICE ETC.. I M REALLY GRATEFUL… I HOPE WE HAVE ANOTHER BLAST OF A YEAR…

  1. This is a very affectionate, moving post Rooney. One to always be cherished.. I will not attempt to thank you here for words would not be adequate except to say that this ‘anniversary’ couldn’t have received a better tribute than your post.

I know you’ve been reminding me about this ‘anniversary’ for a while. I am to be honest not the most charged person when it comes to these matters but I will take this opportunity to suggest that whatever the blog has done or achieved has been entirely due to all the contributors irrespective of their level of participation. And also those ‘lurkers’ who’ve been silent participants. Any blog is only as good as the people who frequent it and comment on it. Otherwise the same stories and trailers and what not could be put up on any blog. While I started this enterprise I have never really seen myself as anything more than a facilitator of the right kinds of conversations when it comes to cinema (obviously predominantly Indian cinema here and within that Hindi). On any other blog were I given the authority I would make exactly the same sets of decisions. But decisions too do not make a vital blog. It is ultimately only the contributors. Obviously some people here have been far more regular in many ways, far more generous in terms of making suggestions or offering stuff for the blog, they know who they are, I won’t name anyone but again who gets what share of the credit doesn’t matter as much as this central point — everyone who contributes has been responsible for making the blog.

I am unsure whether I can call it a success or anything at this point. I am always uncertain about these metrics! But a space has been created I think for certain kinds of discussions and almost always in civil fashion that has surpassed my own greatest hopes.

So thanks to everyone who’s posted or commented here for making the blog everything I’ve described but also a very enjoyable place, even a bit of an addiction for myself. And thanks to all the visitors in turn.

and lastly thanks extremely Rooney for being one of the blog’s special members…

For my part, I’d like to thank Satyam for not just starting this blog but also for fostering it with a lot of care and vigilance. I think it’s been a really cool and often interesting space to inhabit. Rooney catches pretty much every name that deserves a piece of the pie here. Happy first year people.

Satyam, Congrats for completing One Year of your blog and creating this forum. I followed you from Amitji’s blog and ever since been reading some great posts here. Never knew any movie or the BO prospects could be debated to such an extent as being done here :). But the comments and various discussions that gets spun are wide ranging and goes to prove that this much more than movies here. Offlate I’am getting addictive to your site and spending more time here. So I know whom the blame, if something is not going good at work for me or piling chores at home. I remember Delhi-6 was the first review I read here.
But thanks again for a wonderful year and keep it coming.

Well, at the end of a trying day at the office I must say you made my day rooney — am too touched for words… (and, in response to your point about not maintaining of late, to be honest I’ve not been able to be as active as I would have liked, due to work issues etc. Hopefully that will change soon).

Can’t believe how time has flown, it’s been that long already! Satyam, as long as the blog has members as affectionate, sincere and generous as mksrooney right here, it surely can’t go wrong.

A well deserved congrats to Satyam, a man of strong convictions and even stronger integrity and perfect internet decorum.
The blog owes it all to Satyam and the group of some strong contributors – GF,Q,Jay,Chipguy,Rooney,Aditya, Abzee,SandyAramak,SM,Saravansh,Monalisa,Mansi,Oldgold,Santosh,Prasad,Aramak,,Rajesh,Cooldude,Cooltech,Zooni to name a few.

  15. Rooney, what a sweet and sincere post! it’s your sweetness and innocence that distinguishes your posts and presence here, and this is ample proof of that.

But, really, man, Barkha Dutt!!!!!! 😦

I guess you’ve balanced it a bit by the second comparison me to Sridevi, which comparison I also don’t deserve.

But hey, don’t “fear” getting into a discussion with me. I’ll try to tone down whatever is intimidating you now.

I, too, found my way to Satyamshot in pretty much the same way as you did — by first noticing the absence of posters whom I looked forward to reading at NG, slowly learning about a new blog in the comments, etc. Only I found my way here via Qalandar’s blog.

What I like most about this place is the civility of discourse and debate, where differing views can be aired with the knowledge that they will be treated with respect, even if not acceptance. In this regard, I think the relevance of Rooney’s legal quote:

“BIAS IS BASIC TO HUMAN NATURE, EVERY HUMAN BEING IS BIASED BY ONE WAY OR OTHER AND HIS UPBRINGING HIS SENSE OF VIEWS AND COMPANY PLAY A BIG ROLE TO IT..”

here is, that, while bias might be basic to human nature, the thinking human strives to acknowledge his/her bias and overcome it in discussion or judgment. And that is what I find to be the best quality here.

I hope that Abzee and Sandy will once again grace the blog with their presence and commentary.

Happy anniversary (I was going say Happy Birthday, but Rooney beat me to it, so I will follow his example 🙂 ) and many more to come!

Nope, I haven’t gotten around to writing the Veer review yet. I had to get some other things done first in my real life. 🙂 But I think I will get to it now, as it is still relevant, in the light of recent happenings. Thanks for asking.

  16. As Zooni said rightly–‘articulate, intelligent and good-humoured discussions oh Hindi Cinema (and more)’.

Seriously–thanks so much for this intelligent and happy space in the blogosphere. I have never left this place feeling bitter and angry. That negative feeling is something that rises up like bile when I visit some bollysites . Thankfully this place does not make feel defeated and unhappy.

I have been commenting here occasionally, reading a lot, but commenting only specifically. Also, am not sure how one is to start a new topic here. Is that privelege meant for paid-up members?

Is it possible for an infrequent commenter ( like me) to start a topic?

    If not, I understand.

Besides Hindi cinema, there is so much more–old Illustrated Weekly covers, the occasional book review–and for all this this Chennai mom is grateful.

First encountered you guys–Satyam, Qalandar, so many others– at the older place. Happy to read you all here.

    Happy Anniversary .

This blog is one of the vastly few places I come to and post on the internet because of its vast array of knowledge about movies all around the globe and up to date news about celebs, politics, sports, etc. The discussions are almost always worthwhile, of quality, interesting, and humourous! The atmosphere is informative, pleasant, and democratic. That is due to Satyam, and many others who contribute to this blog. So kudos to Satyam for creating such a great blog for all of us to enjoy. He’s doing a great job. I hope the blog is around for a long time to come. 🙂

“Incidentally when I express opinions in these matters it is only as another visitor/member. This might sound odd but my opinions do not represent my position as someone who originated the blog. I had a frank discussion with Oldgold today. the same thing applies here also. In fact had this been on another blog my responses might have been more fierce but I don’t want anyone to think I’m bullying them because I originated this blog. But nothing more than opinion is ever intended. I do edit sometimes when I feel it’s too much of a personal attack. That’s about it.”

Some of the stuff that is written here is riveting, like the discussion that Satyam and GF had about the diff stlyes of directors comparing Omprakash Mehra, Hirani and Vishal, what the heck even non-Bollywod stuff like when Saket and Satyam were discussing Sehwag and Sachin was truly thought provoking. I know this is a Bollywood site but maybe Satyam and GF could sometimes pontificate on the Hollywood scene also..that would be great. This has to be the most cerebral site discussing Bollywood.
