Spider-Man is one of the biggest Hollywood franchises, with a large budget and a huge studio backing. To be cast in it is a dream,” says actor Irrfan Khan.On the announcement of his role as the new villain Proto Goblin, in Marc Webb’s 3D Spider-Man Reboot, Khan says, “All I know is that I am playing a villain in the film.” But according to International reports, Khan’s character Van Atter transforms into Proto Goblin. He will be joined by Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill) playing a villainous Lizard and Annie Parisse (Rubicon) who could be playing Khan’s wife.

IrrfanWhether it’s Bond, Spidey, Batman or Superman, Khan says what interests him are the new elements that these movies keep adding to the franchise: “It’s exciting to watch them. They keep throwing in new challenges, new angles and trying to better the earlier movie. They make characters exploitable and yet maintain the credibility.”

New interest
Khan credits praise for his role as a widower seeking therapy in the HBO series In Treatment for this new wave of interest in him. “It was a very prestigious series and Hollywood started taking notice of me. Recently, The New York Times carried an article with a new picture of me, revealing my real age.

Until now, people have seen me portraying much older roles — whether it was in The Namesake or In Treatment. After this new photo was published, I got some offers from Hollywood and then spoke to Marc Webb. He was familiar with my work and had seen The Namesake and A Mighty Heart and was very keen that I should be in the film.”

For me, Spiderman is big.

If I am cast along with some interesting people, it will be icing on the cake. I used to read comics earlier and I have seen all the Spider-Man movies and liked them.” Khan starts shooting for the film in February.

Again, A small part in a big franchise for Indian actors, First it was Anil Kapoor. It seemed to be a big part for Irfan Khan, where he claimed to be one of the main villians, came out to be a small part. Not that I care much for Irfan as an Actor, but for the respect that he has in India, People like Irfan and Anil should avoid such small parts. Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere.

I know man, He has impressed me only in few of his outings then he became repetitive like Nana Patekar (I do think Nana did reinvent himself from Ab Tak Chappan though), Find Irfan on the same lines, He as an actor doesn’t excite me. I’d root for Manoj Bajpair or Kay Kay menon,
