    • can’t say I’m a fan of either one! Haven’t seen too much of them though (Piaa hasn’t done much anyway) but I’d probably take Samantha over Piaa if forced to choose (which is not a reasonable expectation in this lifetime..).

Is this diff to Tia Bajpai who acted in Lanka and is a good singer too? That girl is really talented. She acted well in Lanka. She has also sung the songs in that movie

Alex, I really liked Vicky Donor – story, screenplay and dialogues are written by a woman. The dialogues are very good. Good all round acting from Anu Kapoor who has a lead role, the young hero who is new but has talent, the two older women who act as the mother and grand ma respectively. It tackles several social issues with humour without sounding preachy but at the same time not undermining the seriouness of issues. I believe it has become a big hit in India and it makes me glad that good movies are getting recognition. I would recommend a watch.

I would also recommend Lanka – Tia Bajpai the lead actrress is also a singer and there are 2 melodious songs. I don’t want to say much about the theme or story as I don’t want to spoil the experience for other viewers. Again I would recommend this movie too. I accidentally came across this movie via the Radio Mirchi awards DVD (a good program with Usha Uthup hosting the show). A lady won the best lyricist award for the song in this movie which is really melodious and apt for the situation in the movie.

Would be interesting to know your views if you happen to watch these movies

          • I don’t wish to sound too negative about Vicky Donor, a film that certainly had me in splits in the initial portions and also did not push the buttons too hard when the sentimentality comes pouring in. Having said that, there’s a clear division in the film that’s just not organic

What starts off as an irreverent, youth-oriented, slapstick drama later becomes a plea for – guess what – sperm donation! I’m not entirely convinced this tonal shift is valid, even though there is a gradual progression towards it.

The quirky charms of the film (a breezy little comedy, with its depiction of Delhi spot on), are somewhat offset by this tonal shift in the second half. That apart, it’s a film that truly entertains. Anu Kapoor is the stand out performer, but that’s not news.

For people interested in Bol Bachchan, I’d say watch Vicky Donor a thousand times over!

          • speaking for myself not waiting for Bol Bachchan but hoping Abhishek can make a genre somewhat enjoyable for me that I have otherwise no interest in!

Saket – in focusing on the sperm donation issue, the film touches upon several other issues too. Don’t want to go into details as it will result in “spoilers”.

    • Piaa is super cute- I’ve seen her in a Tamil film called Ko- she has the Genelia sort of ‘bubbly’ girl-next-door appeal. Samantha reminds me of Katrina- pretty, plastic, vapid.

      • Ko was one helluva thriller. that guy jeevan, saw him in raam, was not bad

        • Ko was quite good- but the bizarre action sequence in the climax detracted from my enjoyment of the film. Haven’t seen Jeeva in anything else. I didn’t care for the lead actor/ actress very much- but I liked both Piaa Bajpai and the villain, Ajmal Ameer.

          • oh ok. piaa bajpai was there in vikram bhatt’s horror ‘haunted’- enjoyed it in parts apart from the rape scene.Ami, i don’t know the names of any supporting actors in south save nasser, prakash raj and comedian brahmananda. amongsts south heroines my fav is illeana- she is hot. i also like meera jasmine, tamannah and jyothika

          • I love Jyothika- have you seen Mozhi? Amongst the current set of actresses I like Amala Paul, Priyamani and Illena. I don’t know who Meera Jasmine is- and I’ve never seen Tamannah in anything.

          • Ami, i liked jyothika- actually her first film was a hindi one with akshaye khanna directed by priyadarshan(had some super tracks by rehman)- ‘doli saja ke rakhna’- a very matured and sweet romantic film, i liked it a lot.also liked her in kaakha kaakha. have not heard of mozhi. don’t know abt amala paul. meera jasmine is the girl who did rani’s part in tamil version of Yuva.

          • Amala Paul looks like a more natural version of Priyanka Chopra- and she is a good actress as well. I’ve seen a few of her films- Vettai and Kadhalil Sodhapuvathu Eppadi- both pretty good.

I haven’t seen the Tamil version of Yuva. And you should watch Mozhi- it’s a really sweet film. It stars, Joythika and Prithviraj- who is another of my favourites. Also co-stars Prakash Raj.

  7. Actually, I suspect in a few months time Samantha will be chosen just over everyone. Too cute really!

Amala Paul is actually a more girl-next-door looking Priyanka Chopra + Deepika Padukone. Which is irony overload. Just look at her:

Shankar’s I shoot is taking place at a stud farm near Mysore owned by Vijay Mallya. The film is a romantic thriller film directed by Shankar and produced by Aascar Films.

I is a big budget extravaganza and has Vikram and Amy Jackson along with Upen Patel and Suresh Gopi in the lead. The cinematographer is the wizard PC Sreeram and music is composed by AR Rahman.

Srinivas Mohan would provide the special effects and production designer is T Muthuraj . For the specialized digital make-up, filmmaker Richard Taylor & Peter Jackson’s special effects and Prop Company Weta Digital was also roped in. The film is nearly 70% complete and has been shot around China, Bangkok, Jodhpur, Kodaikanal, Pollachi and Chennai.

Now Vikram who has various get-up from a 15 year old boy to an 85 year old man is being shot near Mysore at a stud farm. Centuries back the stud farm was created by Tipu Sultan for breeding horses for his wars. Now it is run by Vijay Mallaya for his racing horses.

PC Sreeram is very happy with the locale where some crucial scenes are being shot. The big budget extravaganza is making brisk progress and should be ready by the year end.

    • Shankar probably is the only director in India who knows how to make big budget films and they are worth the money. Bollywood doesn’t have any one like him. And his films have a tight script and yet are superbly entertaining.
