Watched the whole thing. Never felt like this during any other interview…left me teary eyed at the end.
A better watch than 90% of the movies that release! The subjects that SRK and Yash Ji talk about are very touching indeed. About 15 mins of the interview are dedicated to Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Just for the sheer hard work and the dedication for this film, it deserves a watch.
Again, one of the best interviews ever. Yash Ji says that he will not direct films after this, which is sad. Have been a fan of his films. He ranks in my top 10 directors. And to see one of those people leave that aspect leaves me heavy-hearted. Love you Yash Ji!
Arsh,
he shpuld not direct film at all, he is too old for this new era of bollywood,he still thinks he is in 1995 but time is for action like ek tha tiger and not romantic dhaba…yash needs reminding that he is in 21st century and not 19th…
This one is strictly for the fans.
Would be sad to see Yash Chopra retire becasue inspite of a less than stellar second half, he has made some very watchable and iconic films. Wish he was going out with something more substantial and worthy.
Pretty much everything he’s done after Silsila is forgettable with the exception of Chandni, Lamhe, maybe Darr. Even before he had those great Salim-Javed scripts he was at least ahead of the curve with the first multistarrer, a songless thriller with Rajesh Khanna and so on. After Darr though it’s all been downhill. Not that he’s made the worst films around by any means but he’s made among the most empty ones. And though I’m not the greatest fan of many of his older romantic films at least those films were made for adults. Since then it’s been teenage love stories backed up by jingles. At least he went the Rahman way this time around. or rather Aditya Chopra probably forced this on him. And here it must be said that he probably hasn’t truly directed a movie in about two decades. His son has heavily collaborated with him on DTPH, VZ, now this one. Which would be alright if Yash Chopra were at least making very interesting films. It’s fairly appalling to consider his history and then see him direct the likes of Katrina and Anushka in the same film! Then again as a number of examples reveal to us the great survivor is quite often the greatest (and most desperate) sellout as well. If DDLJ seems to be a barrier too higher for the director of Deewar and Kaala Pathar and so many other iconic films one should really retire.
Good points Arsh & rajen uncle!!
Though haven’t seen this clip yet …
As for yash chopra
Do these guys who are ‘criticising’ him know when was his last box office hit ??
In sixties..
And now he will create another one most likely in 2013
A mind bogglin 50 damn years
More than the collective cumulative ages of some here. !!
Let’s get a perspective b4 lambasting someone whose successful career is longer than ones age (irrespective of anyThing else!!)
π
Agreed Satyam (though think the first and easily the better and more original songless thriller was his brother’s Kanoon). But i am not sure why are u being so harsh on Anoushka- she was quite good in BBB and RNBDJ- and she is easily the best in her generation (atleast much better than Deepika). And she has bagged some very prestigious films apart from JTHJ- Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet, Hirani’s Peekay and Bharadwaj’s Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola
“After the seventies heβs basically been playing the artistic equivalent of one long round of golf.”
That’s what seems like
So easy..
Infact I also feel that
Bit it’s difficult to Stand the vagaries of time
For ANYONE
even kjo has already started feelin the heat(as a director)
If it was that easy– one would have atleast a few front eh sixties still directing commercially viable films
But name one !!!
Off the top of my head, Hitchcock for one. And unlike Yash Chopra he wasn’t making useless films even forty to fifty years after his first success in the 20s.
DTPH was still enjoyable for that terrain, at least in those years. But he made some very poor stuff in the 80s. Vijay was unconscionable but he also did Faasle. Mashaal is fine though a somewhat ‘tired’ film and rather poor after his great 70s ventures. There was a point in the 80s before Chandni released when Yash Chopra was more or less wiped out. The bad run began with Silsila and continued through Vijay and Faasle. Even Mashaal was barely ok at the box office. Then he had Chandni but followed it up with a total flop in Lamhe. Had Darr once again and then his son stepped in (might even have been active as early as Darr).
Also I am not sure Satyam why a great love story has to be ‘for adults’. The teenage rom-coms can also be really good-Bobby, Love Story,Betaab,Ek Duje ke Liye. Most of the times Satyam(like when u diss Katrina) u conveniently forget that there is a very important age-group of 16-30 yrs which also exists in India (this is the age-group and not yours which casts the deciding vote on popular choices in cinema).not sure if u have seen them but Socha Na Tha and Ahista Ahista are pretty good films
A good point there minor..
Also
If one is forced to beckon Hitchcock (one of the alltime best makers in world cinema to the comparison !!–
The question is answered!!
As for ‘transferring to the son’ aditya and living off it–
The biggest megastar (of whom I’m also a fan tried passin on the baton or legacy to his son ages ago–
But had to effectively give way to the ‘khans’
Lesson–
At the end of the day-
Merit is needed in any longstanding success and deserves credit !!
Man I wish one could take bets on how people respond because I’d put money on you and make out like a bandit. Knew you’d take the Hitchcock comment and say exactly this! Of course the thing you don’t cite and that I made clear as possible is that Hitch wasn’t making poor films in the later stage – quite unlike Yash Chopra. So it’s not as if Hitchcock was making masterpieces that were also hits in his earlier days only to then make a bunch of Charles Bronson action movies later on. There is a continuity of vision and a consistency in quality that to my mind merits more respect than someone who’s just been around for very long. De Niro’s getting big box office hits at this stage in his career but don’t think people would give him equal acclaim for Meet the Parents and Taxi Driver!
But in your defense there is that great quote from John Huston in Chinatown – Politicians, ugly buildings and whores all become respectable if they last long enough.
just hanging around doesn’t mean very much in my books. Otherwise we would be forced to call Yash Chopra greater than Bimal Roy! Or even Satyajit Ray! Scorsese has done 40 or so years and shows no signs of stopping but in his case the longevity means something. It’s not just about cinema. In any of the other arts we don’t just measure the worth of an artist by his or her prolific output if beyond a point the latter doesn’t add to the oeuvre in any meaningful sense.
Yash Chopra in my view would have been dead after the early 90s but he had the good fortune to have sired a son who reinvented Yashraj in a big way for a new age. He’s been piggy-backing on this since. The films (the few he’s ‘directed’) bear all the stamps of his son and his son’s vision in more ways than one.
The Hitchcock comparison is not flawed by the very simplistic parameters you set up, buddy. You simply asked to name a single director from anywhere in world cinema that happens to have hits on either end of a 50 year career. Hitchcock fits. What’s flawed is your idea that one should just cheer a guy for being around. It’s a bit like the conciliatory “perfect attendance” award for the schoolkid who can’t distinguish himself for actual achievement!
And to be clear, I don’t mean to be overly harsh on Chopra. He’s made three of my all-time favorite Hindi films and for that alone he has a place in the books. But I don’t really care about perfect attendance!
Also to ‘last long’–
They shouldn’t need to be doing blockbusters like drowna, players and other such ‘prestige’ films, only to be rescued by ultra prestigious classics like a partly ‘gay’ act in Rohit auteur shettys ‘prestige’ hits. !! π
Inspite of knowing (& now outlining yourselves) the flawed comparison —
The very fact that u had to resort to that proves my point!!
50 years is not a joke !!
Yes –good quality or not..
As for ‘lasting long’–do u think those who didn’t last long didn’t try hard–
People get ‘eased out’ by market & other considerations !
I’m not trying to prove or disprove your point – I know how you approach these things and there are better ways to waste time. Just clarifying my own point but I guess there’s no point since you don’t really read anything here anyway. I would draw pictures for you if I could, but alas.
Even in ‘pictures’–
50 years is still 50 years !!
Unless u change the scale of the graph
That u can’t !
Ps: instead of this ‘struggle’–
It’s easier to acknowledge facts once in a while..
Ps2: there’s not ONE maker or even on other fields who doesn’t want to last that long —
It’s just that they cant !
Simple..
Some due to commerce, Ill health, senility or just inability to keep up with the changing tastes..
I’m not a yash chopra fan but if someone ties to spin facts –one is forced to …
One is supposed to stop, once GF brings in his hollywood paraphernelia of names and what not.
It’s better to start comparing a kaddu with brusselsprouts.
Haha yokel
But even paraphernalia can’t change facts..
And longevity..
Now we are forced to come onto scorcese! and Hitchcock! to put down a less than ordinary maker from India. !!
Couldnt U find anyone else ?
Forget romances–
Try making something like hAshmi soft porn-ish stuff and still u won’t last anywhere close to fifty years. Or to ‘last long’…
People will ease u out soon ..
You asked for examples from anywhere in the world Alex. And we’ve given them. The only problem you have here is that the examples hurt your own lionization of a director you laud simply for being alive. One doesn’t need any examples to prove Chopra a weak filmmaker. One only needs to watch his movies to prove that! But you can keep up your perfect attendance campaign. Next you should think about lobbying for a Padma Sri to Johnny Lever simply for being actively involved in cinema for the past few decades.
I took your snarky response to mean that my bringing in a Western example was my attempt to stifle any argument. I guess I was wrong. You were just being snarky. Thanks for setting me straight, oldgold.
Yes -I asked for an example anywhere in the world !
It’s not my fault that the only ones u found comparable were apparently scorcese and hitchocock !
Which then brought u to the flawed
Comparison ..
Here ‘longevity’ was being discussed
Longevity also doesnt happen in isolation!
Ps–
To Bring in an equally flawed comparison to put it into perspective
Not that I’m comparing chopra to Sachin!!
But some may say that if so n so played as many matches as Sachin –he would’ve made more runs
The fact is that those people either got unfit,
lost motivation or form much before !
This is also not to say that this makes chopra better than ray or so on!
The point is about creating. Box office hits kn eithe side of 50 years and one can’t deny / belittle that achievement … Simple!
yes one can! the slippage in your argument is on the ‘box office hits’. As I’ve already said my own estimation is that his career is really 30 or so years, not more than this. But leaving this aside no one’s doubting his ‘survival’ skills; however this is not the same as being an extraordinary director producing remarkable work for decades. This is the point you’re completely missing. This isn’t a Raj Kapoor like career where he made films for 40 years and was always seen as a defining force at every point. His last film was a massive hit. So on and so forth. The survival factor only means something if he can then be judged greater than many other directors. I wouldn’t want to be the one holding the position that he’s greater than Guru Dutt because he lasted longer! And again a lot of these claims are deeply misleading. Yash Chopra has only made two films in the last twenty years, that too with great assistance from his son! To say that he’s nonetheless giving hits after all these years is a bit like saying Dev Anand had a hit in 1978. He did and it makes for an interesting factoid but he had slid off into relative irrelevance long before this. Plus as I’ve also mentioned Yash Chopra also had a pretty bad decade in the 80s. So out of those 50 years 30 are suspect for one reason or another. There just isn’t the consistency on display and it’s quite clear he’d be nowhere close to a revival without Aditya Chopra. The whole Yash Chopra record has been exaggerated by the media beyond belief because of the progeny (the same has happened with Karan Johar vis-a-vis his own father.. these guys keep pushing the name in the media) and audiences today who don’t know much better fall for it. But even accepting everything at face value just surviving doesn’t mean much. Years from now people will not say ‘let’s call Yash Chopra one of the greatest because he lasted longer than Hrishikesh Mukherjee’! No one’s saying it even now barring the folks in the media who are busy satisfying the egos of the likes of Johar and so forth.
“Politicians, ugly buildings and whores all become respectable if they last long enough”
rofl! comment of the year! and so apt for the mediocre careers of so many bw auteurs. by those standards, dev anand was the biggest auteur ever, the guy was still directing chargesheet when he dropped dead at 90.
yash chopra did retire a long time ago, he hasn’t done anything remotely relevant since the 70’s. I actually found the early yash chopra of dharamputra, waqt & ittefaq very watchable too. and then the 70’s trilogy of deewar, trishul and kala patthar was good. after that, it was all downhill, once he decided he had some unmatched insight into man-woman relationships that he’d like to share with the world. since that insight didn’t actually exist beyond the superficial interpretation, he fell flat in romantic films. i actively dislike silsila (except sanjeev kumar) and kabhi kabhi. and everything since has been crap. and there was definitely a switch in signature and style in the 90’s, those were aditya chopra films, they were certainly vacuous enough.
There’s a different between films that represent youth love stories (or teen love stories) and those that ‘are’ films only for that age group! And I will forgive you for insulting Raj Kapoor by dragging his film into this discussion! Or for that matter Balachander!
Hahaha
This blog certaibly has the worst dads Ever!!
Be it sd Burman or yash chopra!
Both lived off their sons!!
The only one who bucks this trend is abhishrek bachchan the great
Who made it big on his own and continues to give auteurs like Rohan sippy for the coming generations to look upto and learn from !!
Gimme a high 5: yokel π
Typo-‘first’ box office hit in fifties–
Just noticed that statistic !
& one should try going back to ones high school /university after 5years : forget 10 years, just to watch–
To notice a ‘generational change’ nowadays !!
It’s easy to trash but not really that easy to ‘keep pace’!
Though am not a big fan of yash films in general–
One needs to give him credit of staying relevant & successful and how over five damn decades !!! !
The films from his camp are rather diabetic inducing. Too much and unrealistic romantic moments. A hangover from Mere Mehboob type of romance. Films like Deewar with Bachchan were gritty and watchable. I loved Silsila for Jaya bachchan’s acting, Rekha’s beauty, Sanjeev Kumar’s non chalance and Bachchan’s ruthlessness towards his wife.
Srk deserved better than Yash Chopra and atlast he got CDI as a relief.
Waqt, Kabhie Kabhie were other favourites.
Most of his heroines were and are plastic and it is the heroes who saved the films somewhat.
Haven’t seen the video yet, but thanks Arsh for giving the gist.
The length of course deters one, though being a ‘farewell interview’ it deserves this time. Perhaps I’ll watch it in bits.
At 80, I don’t think it’s a wrong decision to retire, though one is always sorry to see a person whose films one liked, say goodbye.
The banner has produced some of my favourite films starting from BR Chopra. Their films had good stories….or at least not run of the mill.
On the one hand I loved Ittefaq, Dhool Ka Phool. Dharamputra, Deewar and Kala Patthar from that genre, I also loved Waqt, Veer Zaara, and to a great extent KKKG as romantic/family films.
Didn’t care for Silsila whose only charm was Amitabh B. Their real life drama added to the interest, but all in all it was lacklustre. Kabhie Kabhie was a little better for my yokel tastes.
I hope JTHJ will be as interesting for me as VZ was, if not more. He deserves to go out with a bang.
He didn’t make K3G. Nor is his banner the same as his brother’s (though he started out directing some films under his brother’s banner). They had very distinct interests and concerns.
π
I know KKKG was KJO .LOL I think I got carried away with romantic/family films which I love.
Yes, the banner must have been different, I meant to say ‘name’ – Chopra. At least the films I’ve listed were *directed* by him, I’m sure (apart from KKKG)
Anyway, I just came here to write some observations of the video which I’m watching.
SRK looks healthy, and rather handsome.
Yashji’s words are so unclear. The first few minutes I felt he was talking some other language.
He has just started talking about heroines, so that should be interesting. Vyjayanthimala is the first one.
yes they are, you are right there. And yes it’s fair to quote K3G as part of the same genealogy. What I meant on the banner bit though is that though Yash Chopra made stuff like Dhool Ka Phool and Dharmaputra those subjects bear his brother’s stamp whereas once Yash Chopra got going on his own he never attempted those kinds of films. Having said that it’s clear that the ‘truest’ Yash Chopra wasn’t the guy who directed those Salim-Javed scripts either. It’s the filmmaker who made Kabhi Kabhie, Silsila, Chandni and so on. Yash Chopra to sound a bit theoretical about it has always been in terms of romance a very weak ‘misreader’ of Sangam.
You are right, I’m actually a fan of BR, and know Yash C as the director of some of his films.
Just checked his filmography, and found out I have hardly seen any of his films which seem to be all in 90s or 80s.
I thought VZ was very good.
I tend to say very good to any film after 60s/70s if I’ve managed to enjoy it, especially romance, which I think they did better in earlier films anyway.
I actually loved Silsila … π
A vintage classic !!
Perhaps one of the rare yash films post salim javed that I like.
Bachchan was awesome there and so were the film /songs..
yr’s last film as the director: which means if there were even little doubts abt. this doing 150-200 cr – now they will put on rest. People will flock to bid goodbye to YR.
Darr – remains to be a turning point in BW not because it was a great film or so….but because it turned aamir away from YR camp for a long time, it made SRK the blue-eyed boy of YR and the rest…we have seen how srk meteorically rose and how aamir’s career took a different turn……destiny played its card durint Darr in a powerful way….
I am more inclined to go with Satyam’s assessment of Yash Chopra’s career. I think his oeuvre is much overrated. I am a big sucker for romantic films… but I must admit even in this genre hifs films don’t really stand the test of time… and while I did like films like Silisila and Lamhe when the came out and found Darr, DTPH nad Veer- Zaara nice enough none of them are classics that I would like to revisit. Something like Daag and Kabhi Kabhi were total mess as far as I am concerned, and Chandni very mediocre. I would revisit Sangam, Bobby and Prem Rog any day over these. Even Jurmana and Bemisal for that matter. Muqadar Ka Sikandar is of course a powerhouse. I think the myth of Yash Chopra has been carefully built by his shrewd son. The only reason I could forgive the deliberate media misrepresentation is because of one film Deewar, except that how much Salim Javed have to be credited for it and how much Yas-ji.
Paraphrasing the famous put down ‘ What has Switzerland given the world except the cuckoo clock, and later a range of wrist watches?’ I would say, ” What has Yash Chopra given Hindi Cinema except the mountains of Switzerland and the chiffon saree?”
“I think main point is there is no similarity between the director of Trishul,Deewar, Kala Pathtar to DTPH, Veer Zaara (or even darr) which are like extension of Aditya Chopra way of thinking. For example if I think of Gulzar or Hrishikesh Mukherjee I can see congruency of themes, styles and subject matters. But then he has survived so long that suggests that he needed to change to keep himself relevant.”
“DTPH was still enjoyable for that terrain, at least in those years. But he made some very poor stuff in the 80s. Vijay was unconscionable but he also did Faasle. Mashaal is fine though a somewhat βtiredβ film and rather poor after his great 70s ventures.”
I know liking towards cinema is very subjective, and I also agree to some of his poor work from the 80s but how on earth, a hamfest, slow poison like DTPH an enjoyable film for any terrain. On a completely personal note, I couldn’t believe DTPH was directed by the same man who directed Deewar, Silsila and Lamhe
Ha ha! Classic comment about ‘Karishma shrieking her ass off through her tiny tiny shorts’.Still laughing. Must pass it on to my daughter–who feels the same way about Karishma’s shrieks.
Haha satyam @ madhuri making things enjoyable
Well, for me –she was v good till those days when she played a blind folk singer
Don’t rememwber the movie -think it was with jackie shroff..
Think that was her ‘pinnacle’–imo
DTPH was clearly past her ‘peak’ though she did try valiantly to fit in those leotards–I couldn’t tolerate the film !
From the above debate —
It would seem im a fan of yash film !! What days have come …
Ps: papayas: nice cute name there
Does anyone know which madhuri film that was –have some fleeting memories …
“i lost my faith in humanity when karisma won a national award for shrieking her ass off through her tiny tiny shorts. and i havenβt found it since.”
Haha
I’m currently on an exercise cycle in my local gymn while ‘multitasking’.
Nearly fell off reading that Anya
ROFL π
Thanx utkal uncle
Yeah I think that was it–u r right !!
I thought it was a nice cute film -not ‘loud’
U found it unbearable ? Hmm-that’s surprising-u normally know your women!
Though madhuri continued to improve her acting skills after that (amidst growing hysteria amongst fans) .. Saw bits of that film recently
Liked something in madhuri there-unable to pinpoint π
Do u have any song clips -uncle..
Its Paapaas (likes the daddys). regarding Sangeet (Jackie Madhuri), I donβt remember much of it, saw it 10-12 years back or soβ¦ The only thing I remember of that movie is that I had a constipated feeling watching Jackie Shroffβs make up in it.
^Rahul -thanx but think u have put up a ‘senile’ geriatric madhuri here lol–btw i didn’t think the movie /setting here was good!!
I was talkng about madhuri–one needs to see how she exudes a certain ‘dignity’ even to this ‘crass/cheap’ setting.
Also she delivers a textbook workshop for the munnis and Sheila’s of the future …(saw this song recently not long ago)
And one needs to compare this to the current Kareenas to know the difference lol
Ps papayas: I didn’t notice jackie or his look lol
By the way, for those who might be interested in JTHJ music and didn’t have the patience to see the whole 2 hr interview.. they do talk about a song from JTHJ around 1:35 in the video. Apparently a song called “Challaan” sung by Rabbi Shergill
Many thanx for that info Rahul– “Apparently a song called βChallaanβ sung by Rabbi Shergill” π
Why?
Nowadays am more into music than films–& also I’m into learning music/guitar etc as a hobby.
Am relieved to know I did pick it right more than a month ago!
(Not trying to show off-just an innocent delight)
There was only a 3 second guitar strain (only) in the prelude…no mention anywhere of whose music this was…
I posted few links of rabbis music –then felt maybe it was premature and it may not really be that!
But somehow some eyes, some strains and some vibes never miss me π
I know why you are learning guitar AA. I have seen 7 khoon maaf. Remember the dialogue: Hindustan mein/li ladkiyan pata nahin kyon guitar pakde hue ladkon pe marti hain. Ek guitar pakad lo, ho gaya kaam….
“I know why you are learning guitar AA. I have seen 7 khoon maaf. Remember the dialogue: Hindustan mein/li ladkiyan pata nahin kyon guitar pakde hue ladkon pe marti hain. Ek guitar pakad lo, ho gaya kaamβ¦.”
Hahaha exactly
Whatever ‘sound’ comes out is immaterial
It’s just the ‘cool’ quotient–besides the ‘teacher’ and ‘ co students’ are interesting…get 2 learn many things from them. π

Rahman-rabbi combo!!
Well, not sure if this is even supposed to be out and yashraj has been oversecretive about stuff βbut just checked this promo and think its rabbi in the vocals
Even the guitar chords of this βtheme musicβ has an unmistakable βrabbi tingeβ-Rahman has been magnanimous while collaboratingβ¦
Anyhow : a treat in store for me since it will be a guitar heavy sufiesque laden musicβafter rockstar !!!
If trueβ
U will know who caught it first lol
Ok after my self congratulAtory childlike proclamations of ‘ I picked that’!! In the post above–
I ventured to actually see this Srk – yash link though we’ve already debated in it !! Typical lol
Didn’t watch all of it
And yash chopras warbled mumbling confabulations don’t help!!
But this is not bad — a quick glance for those who couldn’t due to ‘length’–
> chopra mumbles his confabulations – barely audible @ places but does give insight into all his films-didn’t know quite a lot
> Srk is only at his second or third gear here but still his spontaneity still manages to pull him thru what someoneike aamir would be taken ages to ‘rehearse’!! One needs to come down from cynical high horses b4 proceeding any further though lol
Interesting bits–
> Silsila -how did those involved agree goddamm –was a mystery to me -dwelled with here in interesting detail !!
> Srk never asks for story , script or even money when he is called by yash
Actually liked that aspect!
> a lesson of how to kick start a campaign with zilch funding
> hit em hard with nostalgia, mush -talk
Adeptly handled by the invisible man aditya
> yash dwells how he got breaks and his crucial decisions..
>
Yash appeared more than satisfied with jthj (and he seemed a good actor himself also)–enuf to declare that he wants to end on a ‘high’!
> finally —
The guitar strains I had rightly sensed coming from Rahman -rabbi —
To me that song ‘chhalla’ should signify the essence of the whole storyline
ESP the last line —
That’s what gulzar was being saved up for !
“Chhalla sabka –uska naa koi ” π
Saw the whole thing- Yash Chopra had some great inputs on Amitabh, Shashi, Dilip Kumar,Raakhi etc. which were mostly known but was good to hear again…SRK was pretty irritataing in the beginning and again could not resist using an inappropriate term- (TurnOn), however he asked a great question- Parvin babi and Smita patil ka kya hua..even I used to wonder how they had reacted…Yash chopra cleared that today…
also IMO SRK should have confirmed the Raj kapoor talking to Yash ( after Parampara debacle) episode,
And, Yash again confirmed the AB, Jaya , Rakha triangle ( alag alag baat kee, ek saath toh baat karna impossible tha ..LOL), he also metioned that Amitabh reads every Coma, every Full stop of the script before he says yes to any film.
My Yash Fav.
1.Deewar
2.Trishul
3.Waqt
4.Kala Pathar
5.Sisila
6.Kabhi Kabhi
7.Daag
8.Chandni
9.Darr
10.Dil Toh Paagal Hai
That’s a list there rocky..
Good point prince…yash did speak about the Silsila casting.
But still surprising how Bachchan & his 2 ladies agreed!
I mean -Israel there many another precedent of an ‘active’ real life triangle working in a ‘triangle’..
The din over the Jthj promo background score being similar to the motorcycle diaries may increase
Think its likely an inspiration –but briliant anyways
No An Jo, There is hardly non Bachchan fan who thinks like that. Many Bachchan fans who present them selves either Salman,Amir fans are doing that since long.
This is the old SRK-fan trick. If one says that Salman is doing massively well at the moment, a statement which incidentally would seem to belong to the realm of the factual and not just about opinion, the counter-charge is ‘he’s a Bachchan fan pretending to be a Salman fan’ or ‘Aamir fan’ or as the case might be. This is a way of avoiding precisely the facts! Speaking for myself I have long claimed to be a Salman ‘non-fan’ and I haven’t changed my position. Much as sometimes political leaders I don’t like get elected similarly there are stars I don’t like who do very well (though with Salman I can’t say that I mind his success by any means). I don’t try to alter ‘reality’ to then make things work for me. Which is quite candidly what one sees from your side of the equation. If one doesn’t like the facts one tries to reshape the field and make the facts seem less important. This is a classic political move. At any rate it’s more than a little amusing to here SRK fans, hardly paragons of neutrality and balance, complain about the biases of others.

Next you should think about lobbying for a Padma Sri to Johnny Lever simply for being actively involved in cinema for the past few decades.

yes one can! the slippage in your argument is on the ‘box office hits’. No one’s saying it even now barring the folks in the media who are busy satisfying the egos of the likes of Johar and so forth.

rofl! comment of the year! and so apt for the mediocre careers of so many bw auteurs. by those standards, dev anand was the biggest auteur ever, the guy was still directing chargesheet when he dropped dead at 90.
yash chopra did retire a long time ago, he hasn’t done anything remotely relevant since the 70’s.

He deserves to go out with a bang.

yes they are, you are right there.

I know liking towards cinema is very subjective, and I also agree to some of his poor work from the 80s but how on earth, a hamfest, slow poison like DTPH an enjoyable film for any terrain. AA: I think the Madhuri – Jackie film is Sangeet. Remade by K Viswanath from his Tamil original. Unbearable stuff.

For the guys…

By the way, for those who might be interested in JTHJ music and didn’t have the patience to see the whole 2 hr interview.. they do talk about a song from JTHJ around 1:35 in the video. Apparently a song called “Challaan” sung by Rabbi Shergill

The 3 sec whiff of musical incense !!

SRK-yash chat -a ‘speed’ viewing of exerpts !
>
