  1. very smart karan. Budget of this one wud be hardly 10-15 cr. So get 40-50 cr and then sell music + satelite + dvd etc rights in another 20-30 cr. Karan gets to make a cool 30-40 cr profit. There s always an audience for rom-coms coming out of YRF/DHARMA – esp in multiplexes.

    • the fees of kareena itself is 5 cr or so. dont think imran takes any less than 5 cr , very less by stds of a hero.thats 10 cr just in fees!

  2. Looks like the usual shite Dharma churns out regularly. I watched the last Imraan-Kareena starrer Ek Main aur Ek Tu and it was such a crapfest. One of the most unbearable movies I’ve ever had to go through.

    I’ll happily skip this one.

  3. Shuddh Desi Romance had a 20 crore budget with no big stars. Mere Brother had a 30 crore budget, I hate luv storys had about a 30 crore budget and EMAET had a 35 crore budget, this will probably be in the same range.

  4. 10-15 cr Budget? Even small movies with no star cast have like fukrey have 15 cr budget and yes no big sets, no big name for music , cinematographer etc. Still, movie was just hit at 40 cr.
Madras cafe sold for huge satellite price is still just average at 45 cr as per BOI.
This movie needs at least 60 cr to be called above average. Looking at EMAET and track record of emraan in absence of mamu association or big crowd puller star actress, this seems impossible. His best shot was outimd where he got most flak and now kicked out of Ekta kapoor’s next project.

where wud even 10-15 cr go – can u pl. elaborate?
Imran and Kareena might take home 2-2 cr each. Then? Karana / Mahesh Bhatt / Ramu are not just filmmakers – they are ring-masters with clear-cut instrustions like “make me this luv story in 12 cr – tight budget – 1 or 2 cr here-there is fine. But thats it. Period”

      • Karan Johar movies are always over budgeted. SOTY with all newcomers had a 40 cr + budget. Idk where the money goes but going by Dharma Production’s other romcoms, this should have around a 30 crore budget.

      • 2-2 cr each? You seem to be their secretary. Just one year back, one small film bheja fry2 had budget of 12 cr and yes, no big name from any department from music to crew. Just like business has gone multiple times, expenditure have gone up too. You want to believe this movie has same budget as JWM 6 years back? During those days, highest business by any film was 80 cr. and today, multiple movies are doing appox 200 cr in a year.

        • Yes, how disappointing that Bollywood continues to cast men whom much of the (young, female) target demographic for this type of film find charming and attractive, as opposed to 45-plus thespians, who are far more suitable to play the chocolate boy lead in frothy rom-coms! 😛

      • I think he’ll be around for at least 5 more years. A lot will depend on how will the new lot yet to come will do (Anil Kapoor son, Jacki Son, and any other new ones).

Jacki and Anil son don’t look like they’ll be Ranbir Kapoor.

      • Saif Ali Khan took 10 years to come of age both skill-wise and also film-wise in and with DIL CHAHATA HAI. He was atrocious and with absolutely zero talent or charisma in films pre Yeh Dillagi. With Yeh Dillagi, he started tapping onto his ‘buffonery’ camaraderie with Akshay and bought more time. It was after 10 years with DCH in 2001 that he used his ‘hard’ work and experience over the decade and put it to use. After that, he realized his strengths lay in playing the suave, serious, urbane guy and he took to that with aplomb (EK HASEENA THI, SALAAM NAMASTE, KHNH). And reaped reward since from 2001 to pretty much till now there have been movies that are souless, beautiful embodiment of ‘urban’ life in US mainly and then India secondarily.

While many here seem to have liked his IAGO turn in Omkara, I found it pretty unconvincing even with ugly make-up and multilple usages of bhos!@#$% and chu!@#$. Things were made worse because he was pitted with an absolutely natural, top-notch actress like Konkana.

So if SAK took 10 years, Imran Khan has just been here for 5 or 6 years. One should be fair. He has another 5 years to prove his worth. Although one should say if he is smart like the great Abraham Sir, he can pretty much sail through till retirement without an ounce of talent!!

Fair point, now you got me thinking. How the heck did Abraham survived? Good looks, body?

I guess another way of looking at it is they’ll stay in business but will be pretty much worthless. Worthless is probably a strong word but you know what I mean. No producer has Abraham on top of his list.

That’s why I said he is a smart guy – he turned producer himself!!

          • As a producer, he is doing a great job.

Of course being a producer is much easier in this era. It’s not like before where with one flop, you can be pretty much done.

          JTYJN, Delhi Belly and MKBKM.

  7. “cast men whom much of the (young, female) target demographic for this type of film find charming and attractive”— have to agree with Amy there
If guys can have their katrinas and deepikas, why can’t the gals enjoy the inane passivity of Imran–go for Imran khan, gals….

As for saif, agree that he was a late starter
And was more than laid back earlier
And has an atrocious choice in women
But lately saif has created a unique niche
It’s not his ‘langda tyagi’ ‘acting attempts’ but his seminal ‘salaam namaste’ ‘cocktail’ persona that’s really spontaneous and natural
And the choices he is making are interesting
As for Imran, the poor guy is a good trier and a good guy (off screen) & good eye candy for the Amys in the audience –but not much more… 🙂
