It may also be an answer to – crazy kiya re and Aishwarya’s dancing. Who knows.

I guess not releasing the complete song videos was a good decision.

  6. Eyes hurt. Ears hurt. What an onslaught at just 30 sec. I don’t get this Katrina Kaif hype, fandom at all. Never understood what makes hordes and hordes flock to her every film and show. One who is so plastic in appearance and utterly flat in expression becomes a mega-star. Baffling.

  7. Katrina is looking fabulous.

    • She has looked fab in every frame of D3 thus far. I doubt any other bwood actress can look so stunning and fluid with the same dance and props.
The decision to just release the teasers seems justified with the visual spectacle that awaits, though I feel the music will not be all that great. Despite the avg score, she is burning screens with her acrobatics.

  8. That’s right. Even DP looks pale in comparison to her stunning look and fluid acrobatic moves. And in acting dept also if KK is not better than current lota then at least she is at par with them because all of them hardly can emote.
DP’s acting was hardly noticeable in recent hits, it was just her role was little meatier.

    • Yes, although I find Katrina to be a non-actress, Deepika is way overrated as well. The way she is being praised right now, you would think she has already reached the level of Rani Mukherjee or Manisha Koirala. Forgot those two, she isn’t even Aishwarya Rai. If all of Deepika’s films this year flopped, then the same critics would be writing her off. It’s all about success.

rani/manisha/aish never gave so many hits in a row and neither they gave as diverse performances in one single year! All 3 were highly overrated

        • It’s true that even Ash until relatively late never had anything comparable to this kind of box office run. On the other hand her brand-name was singular. She was one of the 2-3 most iconic names associated with New India, beginning of course with her Miss World stint. She was as much brand ambassador for this new Indian moment as SRK. She was always a lot more box office proof and actually kept her assignments fairly limited most of the time to maintain that image. So while you’re right on the facts here that’s hardly the whole story. And it’s absurd to compare her with Rani much less Manisha. Again talking iconic appeal and brand value here. Otherwise I’ve always preferred Rani.

Rani also was extremely overrated (and perhaps highly under-used) – I cant remember a single of her film where she delivered superlative performance. Manisha had her moments in Khamoshi / Akele hum Akele Tum / 1942….. / dil se / ECSLS / Saudagar……rani had her moments in Ghulam / KKHH / Sathiya / Calcutta mail (a lovely film – unfortunate at bo) / saathiya / hum-tum / VZ / BAB / Black (highly OTT acting)……..Aish in Taal / Josh / devdas / raincoat (her best IMO) / D2 / Guru / JA

Kareena’s non-existent back side/tooh becomes the most sexy and what not. Same goes for PC-her lackluster body and gestures in RL gets million hits and DP’s extra small gets size 136 lable in RL.

    • What a beautiful analysis of women and their values well calculated.

But dare not say Amir looks like a dwarf sitting on the motorcycle – then it’s low and cheap mentality, etc

So while the men get to drool over half naked Katrina, we don’t even get to see Abhiskek much. It’s all the time, unattractive short Amir with a set frown and pursed lips.

But wait? He’s also a favourite with the men. They admire his macho (huh?) style (as in Gajhani).

Male taste domination was never so forceful as now.

      Like

      • will agree that women can be much more easily objectified in thee discussions than men. Ironically Hindi cinema itself has been doing the opposite for the longest time. You have a few Katrina-like moments these days but by and large it’s about men stripping and showing their bodies! Not just this the men online tend to discuss these male stars far more than female ones! But again will agree that despite all this women are often discussed as a collection of body parts, the same doesn’t happen on the other side. Having said that if you make fun of Aamir as a ‘dwarf’ you lose all moral high ground to object!

            Like

          • I agree with OG here. It is most amusing to see some men on SS (not referring to Satyam here, obviously!) fly into a rage every time anybody dares to objectify an actor, and then pass far more graphic comments about starlets themselves!

            Like

          • Agree with OG here. Outside of facial beauty, Male and Female perceptions of physical attraction are quite diff. Boys go for TnA, Girls go for Height/Shoulder/muscle etc (though recently the liberated gals have not been shy showing appreciation for male derriere!).
Having said that, if Aamir id ded-futiya, SRK/Salman are ded-futiya+2” , not exactly in the league of JrB/HR/Ranbir/Ranvir/VivekO/ArjunK et al. The 3 Khans are unique in being the shortest superstars in bwood, maybe shorter than Rajesh Khanna as well.

            Like

          • Well Abhishek is by far the tallest. Hrithik is next.. I doubt Ranbir is as tall as hrithik though I could be wrong. But yeah Salman, SRK, Aamir are all probably shorter than Rajesh Khanna and of the three Aamir probably the shortest. On that note Sonu Sood is a pretty tall guy. If you look at the HNY snaps he’ll taller than Abhishek. The Bachchans (father and son) are already at the 6’2″ – 6’3″ mark so Sood is a very tall guy by any standards. It’s true that culturally these height issues carry value judgments. On the other hand it hasn’t hurt any of these stars! Not least because the height was also more important in a masala universe that had all those epic overtones. here the hero who truly looked like warrior of some sort (Bachchan, Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna) meant something. But otherwise throughout the history of Hindi cinema tall heroes have not been very common. The vast majority have really been average height. Bachchan when he first arrived was considered problematic even in this sense (height) besides everything else.

On the rest I think women have those kinds of discussions about men more than one might think! But yes there might not be anything here to match the male obsession with certain aspects of the female anatomy, not least because the latter fetishes have a much longer and canonical history!

How many people in the audience gave a crap that Aamir is 5’5” and beating up goons twice his size in Ghajini or was 44 years old and playing a college student in 3 Idiots. Did Ra.1 flop because SRK was 46 years old lip syncing to Akon and playing a superhero or because the story of the film was the crap of crap? Same thing can be asked about Salman Khan and I think the answer to all these questions is No.

BTW I’m not saying that we shouldn’t be criticizing the Khans (which everyone has a right to do and should do) but , it’s interesting how fans of these 3 actors let them get away with doing anything and be very successful.

Repeated images and serial videos/dialogues of aamir couldn’t do to generate the ‘frenzy’ being witnessed above …

It’s not really Aamirs fault and he’s not doing nothing wrong
And to be fair, aamir is bigger than all this

But that was my point about aamir being INCIDENTAL in dhoom 3

Yes he will bring his input and discretion etc

Males are lapping up katrina and even females are reducing aamir here lol

  13. So, here we go,the old topic, short Aamir. How the hell Does it matter? Sachin is short, so is Gavaskar, ditto Kamalahasan, Rahul Bose, Salman, SRK…and anybody remeber the tall handosme hunk who debuted in a Salma Agha film (Nikaah –1980s) , and fizzled out? Give me my short sexy charming actors anyday.

Short chaps never have it easy especially if one is in a profession like films. Anyway here is a recent shot of the man looking very attractive on Karan’s Koffee-shoot. Of course one can expect the usual jibe about Aamir looking good thanks to some help…but it’s a no-win situation really, since fans will ignore the woven hair and wigs of their own favourites. And it’s silly really. If you are in the world of fashion, films and suchlike, you owe it to your profession and your audience, to look as good as you can without stretching the limits.

There is no doubt that there is an Aamir witch-hunt going on. I think those with such hostility will pour champagne with such a glee when and if DHOOM fails that it will give a complex to the degree of happiness they had when they got married or had a kid or whatever!!!! It is quite shocking actually, when the actor himself has NEVER made any grand-standing statement or made any claims of turning heads a la Child’s Play. Even when asked about the crore clubs, he merely replied saying, ‘ yaar mein aakhdon mein nahin padta.’ If it has to happen, it will happen. None associated with 3I had pre-conceived delusions that it would cross the 200 barrier. But it did. And I think as his fans, one should show restraint and not stoop to arguing or countering when people talk of his height or whatever. There are umpteen things I could say about SRK or HR. I have met SRK personally and talked with him for more than 5 minutes which his die-hard fans would give their life for. And I have seen how really ordinary he looks. And how he is not a patch in the looks department when compared to his wife. I find him a mediocre actor but when he attempts films like Ra.1, I had truly wished it to succeed. If anyone in Hi-fi had the clout on a 360 scale, it was SRK and with the wherewithal at his disposal, he could have given Sci-fi a boost in Hi-fi. But he blundered when he gave the reins to that copy-cat Anubhav Sinha and went along with that haywire script. But it is equally true that he shone bright in CHAK DE and CHAAHAT (one of his under-rated performances) and SWADES. But he has, for me, been very bad when he worked with YRF because he slipped into his goat-bleating performances with them.

HR put on an abysmal performance when he tried to take on Javier Bardem in Guzaarish. And it was a cringe-worthy performance with his atrocious put-on English accent which was neither American nor Goan nor Somalian. But hey, that’s a ‘great’ try and a great performance! Of all the films, he showed his weakness the most in MAIN PREM KI DEEWANI HOON, where he was taken to the cleaners by AB Jr! It was such an out-of-turn, jarring performance that one was confused whether the pain was due to the bad film or due to his hamming! But Aamir Khan attempting DHOOM? No way! It is THE cardinal sin. After all he is fighting KHALI in the film! And unlike SRK who beat up Niketan Dheer who is 5 inches shorter than SRK (who is 6′ 2″). Aamir ‘cannot’ look convincing! So SRK can romance his daughter Deepika, but Aamir should’t his daughter Katrina!

Each and every actor in Hi-fi of the ’90s except Salman Khan has over-stepped and tried to do something away from their associated imagery. So one doesn’t understand this hostility toward Aamir. If he does 6 films a year, he is an actor with poor choices and simply whiling by; if he charts his own course and decides to do 1 film at a time, it is a careful, cultivated, orchestrated Machiavellian strategy and THAT’s why he is a success! Never mind the fact that this style of working is easy on the audience because he spends half the time ensuring the quality of the product is good! It is simply the coin from Sholay for him – either way, he loses.

If his 2 iconic schizophrenic performances from LAGAAN and DCH cannot convince non-fans of his strengths, I am pretty sure there is really nothing he can do to win them over.

Now one does understand this is a plastic film and you need Barbie dolls to don the role of the antagonist here (the first one was Abraham Sir if you need any further proof of the ‘type’ of film this is). So Aamir will be microscopically analyzed for each and every act of his – which is perfectly fine.

One cannot, and SHOULD not question why an actor takes on some roles – at least in Hi-fi; but you can surely be vocal critically about his or her performance AFTER you have seen the entire film. One cannot question why SRK worked with Mani Kaul, or why suddenly Akshay decided to work with Nagesh Kukunoor or even why HR took up a subject like Guzaarish! But one 30 second Katrina teaser spreading her legs and suddenly the decision is that Aamir has lost. Huh? What kind of logic is this?

To be fair, this kind of hostility is prevalent even in Hollywood. One just has to remember what TOM CRUISE went through for having played the role of Jack Reacher. After all, Reacher was supposed to be 200 lbs 6′ 5″ in a bloody comic book/graphic novel whatever you want to call them. Never mind the fact that there was not even a SINGLE scene in the film where Reacher pummels a 6′ guy to the ground. Poor Affleck is facing the heat now for BATMAN – SUPERMAN flick. But there is a vast difference. There is something called ‘casting’ in Hollywood while all we have in here is the casting couch. So really one cannot blame our actors for jumping into genres that on paper do not seem suitable for the image or body-type.

This is hardly new: when Mangal Pandey failed to set the box office on fire, the glee among certain fans on the internet was palpable…unfortunately for them they had to live through 2006, with the Rang de Basanti and Fanaa double whammy.

    • Aside: cricket batsmanship is a different animal. i.e. Many would say that the “ideal” height for a batsman is not very tall, as that makes moving between back-foot and front-foot a bit difficult. Sachin is obviously shorter than average, but in my book, the more notable exception is VVS Laxman or Cook: I think it’s unusual to see batsmen that tall, especially if they are reared on sub-continental pitches where the ball does not bounce very high (it would make more sense to see taller batsmen from places like Perth and so on).

SRK has no complex, and stands by the side of his heroines, who if not wearing 6inches heels are the same height. Amir has to sit on a stool.
But yes, I can understand your wonder.
Just as I can’t see any difference between the body shapes of Katrina, Deepika, Priyanka, Kareena etc etc or their fitness or any other such detail, you think there is hardly any difference between the heights of the three Khans.

          • Not sure about height but definitely there is a difference in strength.
While Aamir makes Ghajini, Dhoom 3 and gets away without any injury , there is always a plaster hanging around SRK’ s neck through his hand during shooting of all his movies .

BTW there is difference of just 1 inch in Aamir and Srk’s height not 2 , same is the difference in width of thr nose , SRK being on the higher side in both.

            Like

          • I think I did say in my comment that Aamir is probably shorter than the other two. The point however is that you can’t have it both ways. Being taller than Aamir is hardly a high bar. SRK and Salman are still on the shorter side. And we don’t have to use either Bachchan as a standard for this. And in any case your whole claim is a rather shaky one. If Aamir were of average height and SRK/Salman were Akshay’s height or Hrithik;s height or something you’d find that ‘average’ height less as well.

In general I must admit that I am not really invested in this subcontinental height fetish. As for the women you’re targeting the wrong person even here because I don’t remember talking about female body parts here. I like people or I don’t in totality. Which doesn’t mean I don’t have eyes to see certain things but those are not my primary considerations and I’ve made this point several times at length in the past.

As for your claim that you can stoop to that level to make a point let’s say politeness prevents me from hitting that for a sixer.

BTW there’s a difference of 2-3 inches, not 1 inch between SRK and Aamir if we’re trying to be factually correct. Aamir is 5’5”-5’6 while SRK is 5’8”.

And agree about screen presence/impresion. However to be fair, in Talaash, Aamir didn’t look short, I thought he looked absolutely perfect. In Ghajini he looked a little short but his physical strength overshadowed any height shortcomings. But in Fanaa and especially D3, he is looking small. I thought he looked fine in the the scene where he’s running down the building and when they have shots of him walking, but he looks tiny in the Tap Dance song. For SRK, I thought he looked smaller than usual in Ra.1, D2, and JTHJ. It might be cause he had short hair in those movies. He looked his normal height in CE. Coincidentally, Ra.1, D2, and JTHJ all underperformed.

Agreed that when he is with his actresses, he looks fine. But as soon as the camera catches him with another male co-star his short stature becomes glaring. Same with Salman. And no, his eyes are not evil, but a lovely warm brown; yes, his ears stick out — and he has himself laughed about it; he can laugh at himself. I and many others find him charming, so no harm if some others hate him. I do not question ANY actor’s looks — big nose, big ears, whatever. One is dealt a deck of cards at birth –big nose, stick out ears, dark skin maybe, short height… And you have to get on with it and live a life with the cards you have. Aamir has succeeded with his cards. To my knowledge no successful star-actor is as short as him.

What about Jackie Chan, though? Must check him out, details.

The physical criticism of Amir was a follow up of how women’s body parts are drooled over and discussed like they were inanimate objects, or not drooled over because whatever was flat or not well shaped and so on like some geometrical figures.

I was expressing similar thoughts. Stooping to their level and looking in the eye to speak their language.

Jackie Chan? I wouldn’t know who the person is if you showed me his picture. :-/
I’m not intrested /have the time to go beyond watching old, classical films and keeping uptodate with contemporary Bollywood films. Adaptations of classic literature, or a rare film that comes along – rarely Hollywood.

To impress in a 32 seconds song promo , YRF failed to make Katrina dance well enough to convince the audience , an anonymous body double girl dwarfed Katrina without even showing her face….
but Katrina stole the show (?)

  18. They are literally releasing song promos every other day. And they’ve released 2 thirty second promos of this dhoom tap song which is equivalent to most song promos anyways. So much for all the subdued promotion bs. Although as a fan of the series, I’m enjoying all the promos and hype the film has. I just hope they release the music album soon for Bollywood music lovers and collectors like myself.

Is this a sarcastic comment? I would think “Bollywood music lovers” would want to stay away from this album, the songs of which are only saved because Krrish 3 exists.

      • Lol I try to but 5 music albums a year (instead of downloading the songs for free for the other hundreds of songs) just cause I like collecting CD’s and DVD’s and to “support” the music industry. This year I’ve bought Aashiqui 2, YJHD, Ram-Leela and CE. I pre-ordered CE’s album because I’m a SRK fan (and this album was below expectations). In terms of music as a whole it has been very disappointing this year but I have thoroughly enjoyed A2, YJHD, R-L.

And coming to D3, I’ve heard 4 songs from the albums so far-Dhoom Machale, Malang, Kamli and Tu Hi Junoon (only snippets of it from youtube videos of the filming of the song). I liked the title song, I have Malang on repeat, Kamli is passable but the tune is done to death, and I’ve liked what I’ve heard of Tu Hi Junoon. So based on these 4 songs, I’d give the soundtrack a 3/4, which in my book is (unfortunately or fortunately) one of the higher rated albums this year ahead of CE, Besharam, R…Rajkumar, Race 2, Shuddh Desi Romance but lower than YJHD and A2.

        • With just 3 songs in it, the Kai Po Che album is far better than anything which has come out this year including Raanjhana- I will take Maanjha over every other song this year. I also did like the soundtrack of Ek Thi Daayan (Bharadwaj) a fair bit. And of course there was Raanjhanaa. The one big disappointment here was Matru. On YJHD, yes Pritam gave some catchy tunes here, but the album was much inferior to WUS (the latter’s Iktaara is leagues ahead of anything in YJHD).

          Like

          • Personally I find Amit Trivedi overrated but yeah the KPC songs were good. I only liked the title song and Tum Tak from Raanjhana. WUS and YJHD are completely different albums in terms of mood and feeling so I haven’t made comparisons between the two. I’d compare WUS’s album to that of ZNMD’s. Compared to other recent “romcom” albums (i.e. Anjaana Anjaani, BAH, IHLS, EMAEK). And that Badtameez Dil song is just so damn catchy.

          • Agree about Pritam. Although I was surprised to see on an old BOI page that Dhoom 2 was #1 or #2 in terms of number of albums sold in 2006. I didn’t know the music was that popular in India.

            Like

          • well the soundtracks of big films just sell more. The music of both 1 & 2 was quite popular but that doesn’t mean much in an age where songs are replayed endlessly and anything even half passable becomes popular this way.

  19. ‘Kamli’–Katrina Kaif-fitness & Pilates

Ok folks–just checked the promo for this track…
I was expecting katrina to do well here and she has not disappointed!

As I have mentioned before (& now others have agreed with that), katrina is a very ‘hardworking’ and ‘disciplined’ girl (hehe Goldie..)
One can see the hours put in to attain this ‘tone’ & flexibility…

    So what’s new, many ask?

Yes there’s nothing new in the music or lyrics (though I find it better than ‘malang’!)
Also good dancing heroines aren’t new with their being a tradition of better dancers from vyajantimala to sridevi to madhuri to PC more adept in classical /mainstream dance …

the ‘newness’ here is the emphasis on FITNESS

it’s also to do with Katrina playing an ‘Acrobat’ but the signs were there to see even in sheelas WASHBOARD ABS to Chickni chameli flamboyant gyrations …

    What’s new?

Katrina has set the bar high for physical agility and fitness levels amongst Bollywood heroines

Bcos it shows in the dance steps

One cannot rule out a body double in some shots of ‘kamli’ bit katrina has done enuf to give her credit

    What’s new?

Increased work on PILATES & BODY BALANCING

which are quite important for physicality in these dance moves and has hitherto been neglected in Bollywood.

In addition, suspect Katrina has gone through AERIAL work and endurance training of sorts ..,

    Someone mentioned katrinas ‘biceps’

It’s not about ‘biceps’ but stamina /endurance

Try pitting katrina against some ‘male stars’ (forget female) like abhishrek , Tushar, Imran khan, even aamir khan etc and she may trump them in endurance etc

Forget endurance, most of the other Bollywood heroines can’t even run!!!
Ok perhaps PC and deepika are fine but they may struggle to complete a 100 metre run (@ any speed)
As for sonakshi –no comments lol

Forget these male stars, katrina seems to have more ‘staying power’ than most stars lol
She will ‘outlast’ most (in bed)–but won’t delve there too much …
Ps: I won’t mind ‘competing’ with her on that though 🙂

    • Exactly which flexible dance move of Katrina has impressed you?
12 seconds of this 30 sec promo belong to body double , which “out of the world” move has Katrina performed in those 13-14 sec tht actually belong to her?

I see it as failure of Katrina . A 32 second song promo and YRF does not have enough cool steps of Katrina to convince the audience , they were forced to add the body double part for 40 % of the promo.

Kahan dekh li Kat ki flexibility?

Her 7 second share in Teaser + Trailer (combined) is sufficient to rule out an Aish type major role.

Esha’s “Dhoom Machale” was part of the story much like Aish’s “crazy kiya re ” and Kat’s poor “kamili”.
The promotional title song in ” dhoom 1″ was performed by TataYoung and that has been ignored for the comparison , that’s why Kat is at 3rd place not 4th.

The REAL song starts AFTER the ‘highlight’ is over

    And Katrina enters the frame

Then on, she OWNS the space

And IMPOSES herself onto the screen space…

Every movement is emphatic and confident

Even abhishrek does v well and trumps aamir in every confirmation scene

      • I think JBJ was a strong soundtrack. Probably their best in just about forever. Actually liked it more than the BnB one. Saathiya was of course Rahman. The original Tamil here is my favorite Rahman soundtrack.

I have liked individual songs from some of their films though. Have a weakness for RNBDJ’s Haule haule for instance. Liked Pareshaan in Ishaqzaade. Chand sitare from fanaa might be their single best number in many years on an album that is otherwise not strong.

Oddly they’ve never had strong soundtrack for Dhoom. Was saying this the other day but Pritam himself has never produced his best music (for whatever this is worth!) for this franchise. It’s the kind of stuff that works fine in the film but has no recall value otherwise. Having heard snippets of this one I’d say D2 was better (at that low end of things!). In fact on the current soundtrack the love song is the poorest one.

          • This is less about being a bad album and more about being a disappointing one. No track for Abhishek or Uday. Only 4 songs, one that belongs to Taare Zameen Par (!), one a re-hash of the theme song! A tap dance and theme song that adds nothing.
YRF basically have lost one of their pillared forte of the 90’s, music – the emergence of Aditya gave DDLJ before that we had Darr, after DDLJ DTPH. All popular. They usually save their best for either Yash or Aditya directed films, but the 00’s music is pretty low even on that score compared to the 90’s.

Contrary to others, I did like some of their albums. BnB, Hum Tum, Fanaa, Aaja Nachley, RNBDJ, BeH, BBB are decent enough. They don’t stand out as complete albums and the standards set are no longer industry standard.

With a run time of nearly 3 hours and music not even touching the 25min mark probably, definitely a lot of emphasis now falls onto the script and film of which hardly anything has been revealed. Am still expecting the best of the series.

            Like

          • yes this is actually another bad sign for Abhishek.. in D1 he had shikdum, was part of salameh, he was even around for the Uday song. In D2 he had touch me, wwas around for dil jalana. Here it might be that he’s part of a party/club scene where dhoom machale or something is playing because there are a couple of shots that have Uday dancing. But nonetheless it’s clear that this is another downgrade for him. All this means is that his role though his part might still be way better than D2, and certainly he looks good here, the bar on his making an impression is now extraordinarily high. Because other than the action and presumably the face-off with Aamir (remains to be seen how substantial this is) he really has nothing. Meanwhile he’s absent from the advertising. theatrical trailer was 90% Aamir, then malang video, then kamli, two versions of the tap dance, a few short trailers with limes for Abhishek that were really taken out of the theatrical one, off-screen too he’s been totally absent barring the first appearance with Aamir. Apparently he’s just done something in the media with Aamir and Uday. There’s something odd going on here. I’ve never seen such a one-sided campaign. It’s not even about going back to older masala multistarrers. Even today this sort of thing never happens. The D2 campaign had parity more or less but Abhishek was also going through a strong run. Things are different today but after BB one would expect that he’d get more than this! It’s really quite astonishing. And if the film has a much more balanced equation it would be even more bizarre because who has the most imbalanced ad campaign for a perfectly balanced film?! And again nothing we know so far suggests the latter. I’ve been thinking that his part might be better than this based on the script length and so forth but still everything else argues against this. To not even have a song is pretty remarkable! It would actually be some kind of conspiracy to have a good showing for him in the film but ignore him so totally otherwise! It might be that given the complete lack of exposure so far he makes an impression even with less. But that’s a pretty low bar. I am quite mystified with a lot of this. His decision to do it, the producer’s decision to make the advertising only about Aamir, and so on. It’s not about who the bigger star is. Because if the other guy doesn’t mean anything why even have him around?! Beyond this it would be pretty disappointing to have the two together in a film and not have anything substantial come out of it, at least relative to the terrain. Now if one nonetheless wants to be totally optimistic here Aditya Chopra just wants Aamir all the time to milk the initial as much as he can (though this still doesn’t make complete sense to me.. would it hurt the film to have Aamir 60% as opposed to 90% or more?!). But again not giving any song to the other guy argues against this, specially when unlike Hrithik it cannot even be argued that there’s a dance element or something here that’s the star’s strength.

            Like

          • Agreed. If songs are only 20 minutes in a 3 hour movie, and it truly is a one sided movie, then I think that will hurt the movie. Then it has basically turned into Don 2 but an hour longer. Also, I don’t think Rimi Sen is part of this movie so those romantic/comedy moments Abhishek had in the first two movies are gone as well. Another thing is in the trailer, the scenes Abhishek are shown in completely match the scenes Abhishek had in D2. For example, the whole auto rickshaw scene is like the Jet Ski scene in D2, Him on the helicopter is the same as D2, Him talking to the CPD about Aamir is the same as D2, and the 1 confrontation scene that we see is also the same. At this point I don’t see Abhishek having a fair role which is unfortunate.

And about the scenes with Uday dancing on the trailer- I think it’s just part of those Ali “dream sequence” scenes, such as in D1 when he first sees Rimi Sen and then imagines being married, then having kids with her and the same for D2. Or it might be a 1-2 minute joke dancing scene since I think he’s dressed up as Elvis and the costume of Uday there doesn’t match the tone of the soundtrack.

But one strange thing I find with the songs is that Katrina has not 1 but 2 solo songs. Even Ash didn’t get this in D2 and I don’t think it’s necessary at all.

Do agree on S-E-L, think the last time I really liked them was in Rock On (also have a weakness for the throwback stuff from Johnny Gaddaar). But do check out their songs from Chittagong (would also really recommend the film to everyone. This was exactly what KHJJS should have been even if I like the Gowarikar film and Abhishek’s performance)- they were in form after a long time.

Will say that apart from Rahman, no one comes close to Amit Trivedi (Bharadwaj is an excellent composer, but he has been having a very patchy record of late)- Dev D, Aamir, Ishaqzaade, Iktaara (WUS), Udaan, Kai Po Che, Lootera, Dilli track from NOKJ- all important works and in such a short of span of time. I know you find him overrated, but apart from Rahman, there is not even another composer who is in the same league as Trivedi- just the sheer variety at display should be reaaon enough to consider him important. Incidentally I thought ‘Maanjha’ was far superior to anything Rahman did in Raanjhanaa or JTHJ

    TNN | Dec 9, 2013, 01.55 PM IST

    Abhishek Bachchan
The audiences have seen Abhishek Bachchan performing hard core action stunts on the bike in Dhoom as well as Dhoom 2. This time around, the actor goes desi with his action.
Abhishek Bachchan has learnt to ride an auto rickshaw for his upcoming next big film, Dhoom 3. For the first time, the actor will be seen doing action on the unusual mode i.e. a rickshaw.
In the introductory shots of the actor, there are some action scenes he will be doing in the auto rickshaw. Abhishek, who plays the character of an intelligent cop, Jay Dixit, was loved by the audiences in the previous franchises of Dhoom.

The trailer of the film, Dhoom 3 was launched by Aamir and Abhishek Bachchan, who plays a pivotal role in the film, in the IMAX format and it is slated to release on20th December.
Spokesperson of the film confirms the news, “Abhishek learnt to ride a rickshaw for some action scenes in the film.”

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan feels Aamir Khan is the finest actor and an inspiration for the kind of work he has done in ‘Dhoom: 3’.

“He is the finest actor the country has. For his role (in ‘Dhoom: 3’) he required that kind of body. He does some trapeze work in the film… for him to work out that way (to have a perfect body) it is fantastic and inspiring,” Shah Rukh said here at an event last evening.

“Aamir leads the way and is always an inspiration like this not only physically and mentally but with the kind of job and work he does. I really appreciate it,” he said.

In ‘Dhoom: 3’, Aamir plays the role of a baddie. Shah Rukh is also ready to play a negative role again on screen. He had played negative roles in the beginning of his career in films like ‘Darr’, ‘Baazigar’ and ‘Anjaam’.

“It is long time I haven’t played such a role, I will like to do it. If I am offered (anti-hero role) I will do it though it may not be commercially very befitting… it may not get into club of Rs 100 crore or Rs 200 crore. Like I do ‘Don’ series, but it is stylised and is hardly negative,” Shah Rukh added.

But then this has been your tune throughout, ever since the Dhoom campaign began. In any case, I have read enough reports to suggest that the film features Abhishek, Uday, Katrina all fairly equitably placed through the film — though I guess Aamir does get a lion’s share of screen presence. But then he is the star of the film, much as you may wish it away. Same with Hritik in Dhoom 2. So?

And again nothing we know so far suggests the latter. I’ve been thinking that his part might be better than this based on the script length and so forth but still everything else argues against this. To not even have a song is pretty remarkable! It would actually be some kind of conspiracy to have a good showing for him in the film but ignore him so totally otherwise! ”

Dhoom 3: Aamir Gets A Superbike, Abhishek Gets A, Ahem, Rickshaw
          By IndiaTimes | December 10, 2013, 6:00 am IST

If there were any doubts about who the real hero of ‘Dhoom 3’ was, this latest piece of news should put all to rest.

While Aamir Khan, who plays the movie’s chief antagonist, will be seen riding a sleek k1300R BMW superbike, Abhishek Bachchan, who reprises the role of ACP Jay Dixit, will be seen performing stunts in a, ahem, autorickshaw.
Abhishek Bachchan will be performing his introductory scene in a rickshaw

What’s more is that these rickshaw shots will be Bachchan’s introductory scenes in the movie.

A spokesperson for the film confirmed this. “Abhishek learnt to ride a rickshaw for some action scenes in the film,” they said.
Aamir Khan rides a BMW superbike in the film.

Earlier, reports had claimed that Abhishek was being sidelined in the ‘Dhoom 3’ promotions given that Aamir and Katrina Kaif had been the only two cast members present at events.

And while we don’t know if this is being consciously done, it is true that most of the promotional material released has largely focused on the Dhoom family’s latest additions. However, the Dhoom 3 team will be finally holding a press conference on Tuesday that will see the entire cast come together.

          • For the media to be anti-Abhishek is nothing new. Here they have better reason than on most occasions because of the obvious. My position has long been that there is something weird about the advertising here. Not that Aditya Chopra should have been ‘kinder’ but that he isn fact being stupid. Won’t repeat my entire long comment here. But what shouldn’t be missed is that there has been a strong anti-Aamir narrative at the same time which talks about him slashing Abhishek’s role for insecure reasons or keeping him out of the promotions and so forth. Now it might seem that this is a way of just praising the bigger star but it actually isn’t. Because he’s being depicted as a petty guy and so forth. In every other case whenever the same folks went after Abhishek for these reasons they never attacked the other guy for doing this. And again once a story is introduced in the media bloodstream every source picks it up and runs with it. It’s not as if these are 20 different stories. Just the same old recycled one.

I’m not sure how objective she can be in her reviews given that she has cozy chats with the stars the week before the film comes out, but nevertheless the show is fun. I hope this episode is 40 mins rather than 20. Nice hearing people speaking Hindi for a change.

      • hopefully longer since it’s a big film and there are three people there. On the rest though I agree. That’s true for a lot of these folks though. They are very friendly with the stars which is why the questions tend to be so ‘soft’ if not juvenile a lot of times. of course it’s also true that you ask tough questions and they stop showing up! Specially in an age where there’s much media to choose from they won’t suffer but the person running that one show will. 95% of the questions that are asked in most of these shows really never rise above teen maturity! ‘What’s your favorite color?’! I exaggerate slightly.

anyways, Aamir has once again subtly changed the game in promoting films. Promoting only 30 secs clips of the songs (while the rest of the industry releases the entire song sequence). Always against the grain.

But in Dhoom 2 we introduced romance in the form of Sunheri’s (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) character. Now seven years later, if we had repeated the same thing people would be like ‘come on guys, give us something more’.

Dhoom 3 is a bit darker, edgier and we have for the first time given the villain a very strong emotional reason for doing what he does.

        • I would rather have Abhishek tell the interviewer that he is not an actor, not a model, and that unfortunately, people don’t know the difference in India. Honestly, I think that’s what he really feels, but has to hold back because of the ‘closed’ culture we have.

          • I meant to say ‘he is an actor’.

            Like

          • agreed.. in general the multiplex culture is really harsh on those who are not ‘with the program’. I’ve said this for years. But Abhishek puts them in a bind which is why he attracts even greater resentment. Precisely because he is unassailable on ‘class’ grounds he cannot be ‘condescended to’ the way some other stars might be. Someone like Govinda or even Akshay Kumar and so on. here as representative of that class he cannot really be dismissed which is why when he shows a certain resistance to that mindset or lifestyle choices it creates problems for him. Specially when even older stars from SRK to Aamir (Salman was always this way) have also over time signed on to this stuff in certain ways. It’s not just about the gym body but that is the easiest way to signal to the audience that one is ‘with’ them in an aspirational sense. With Abhishek it’s this, it’s some of the films (at least before the current safe phase) and so forth. I was remarking on this the other day but it’s in a way sick how people have lost with either gender all genuine sense of the erotic. And so with Katrina what really impresses everyone is again the gym body. people don’t even talk about actresses the way they once did. It’s only about fitness! The same with men. In fact the camera these days ogles over male bodies much more than female ones! Reflecting perhaps the mood elsewhere where if you notice most males on the blogosphere or elsewhere are far more obsessed with the male physique than the female body! It’s all part of this general blandness in cultural terms where the ‘non-threatening’ is privileged whether it’s in cinema where people want the pretense of the different and not the truly edgy to notion of physical beauty where it’s about gym bodies that are like peas in a pod and where people look sort of the same. There are hardly any stars anymore with truly distinct personalities. Specially if we think of those who’ve debuted since the 90s. finally cinema itself is mostly about consumption today, not about ‘experience’. It’s become a joyride for the most part. This is partially true even globally but in India there is a certain Philistine attitude about the alternatives. I should hasten to add I am only referring to Bollywood. This isn’t necessarily true for other Indian industries.

Of course a larger point could be made here. To the extent that Bollywood gets more globalized this blandness is not surprising. Much as the world itself gets blander as it gets more and more Americanized and replicates the same in an increasing number of societies around the world. While empires are often about cultural imperialism the current technological moment makes the American imperium a lot more ‘overwhelming’ and thorough in very many corners of the globe. And I find this to be not at all a welcome development.

Sometimes though when you say this stuff people think one is living in the US, partaking of the American experience, but trying to deny it to others. Differently put it’s the Amol paler syndrome. You get tired of waiting for the bus, being pushed around trying to get on it, one day it’s new India, there’s more for you to do or take advantage of, and you come across people like me who you think are pushing you back towards that old experience in the guise of rootedness or whatever. It comes across as hypocritical and I certainly understand this. But partaking of Americana and partaking of modernity are two different things. the problem is that the former hegemonizes the latter. It is then hard to separate the two.
