  1. A story of 2 boys..

    Boys who became refugees..

    Refugees who became gun couriers..

    who became coal bandits…

who became Calcutta’s most loved, celebrated, reckless, fearless, powerful..

    GUNDAY..

    ===================================================

Also, in the midst of all these, eating just jal muri and ghugni chaat, also found time and resources to enrol in Gold Gym’s paid membership..

To further put it on record, as for my personal interest quotient, I found the promo of Gunday even better than Dhoom 3!! Oh yes, I said it!

    • A lot of these guys have let’s say their ‘loyalties’. won’t say more!

I do like the Gunday trailer. But it’s crazy to compare this with D3. It’s not a like for like thing. For the terrain the D3 theatrical trailer was perfect. I would have liked to see more Abhishek in it. I might even have added some more romance to it (some Katrina moments) or even the two cops exchanging quips or something but the trailer certainly hits the bull’s eye in terms of what it’s supposed to do.

  3. yes agreed i would have also liked more Abhishek and Katrina in the trailer . Aamir also recently said at an event they dont want to reveal much before the film releases so lets hope Abhishek has a good role here having said that i liked that Abhishek Rickshaw stunt in the title track promo .

But comparing this with D3 🙂 , does not make any sense.

  6. This film and another film look quite similar – Desi Kattey. YRF copying the idea.
For D3 – I think Diana Penty might be a new love interest for Abhi!

  9. Oh my god! Oh my god!… I just hope and pray Calcutta’s most loved Gunday do not have a dialogue in Bengali!! Would not be able to bear that. Jackie Shroff in Devdas was enough of a damage, which still hurts:(

    • Well most of times, actors are suppose to act convincingly. They can never be authentic because they don’t belong to that place. Manoj Bajpai can do a Bihari role authentically but Govinda could only do it convincingly. Does it matter? For most, it doesn’t because they don’t know the difference.

Was watching Killing Season yesterday and Travolta was speaking in east European accent. How I am going to decide he has correct accent or not?

  10. Well convincing is all one is asking for! Its just that the audience watching the movie should feel …Well, this guy did a good job!! and he was convincing. Not like Saif Ali Khan playing a dalit in Aarakshan…really, really!!!!

    • To be fair to Saif, he comes with lots of baggage (that he is a royal). So I think fault was with Jha in selecting Saif than Saif.

  11. And Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor (if they are playing bengali guys) look like anything but Bong! I do not have to watch the whole movie to say that…

    Like

    • Forget Bong, these days, with waxed chests and action figure six packs, one is lucky if the heroes look like real-life men. The only “plus” here is that women have been confronted with such “body images” in models for decades, so the shoe is now on the other foot as well. But what is different about Bollywood is that the “model look” is imported into cinema as well (you don’t necessarily find that in film industries across the world, although you do find it across global fashion industries) — and certainly I am not aware of another film culture (not even Bollywood prior to the current era) where there is a demand for the “action figure look” irrespective of what role is being played. Thus, in contemporary Bollywood a superhero, Mughal emperor, Mumbai slum dweller, must all look the same with the shirt off. In fact the (undeniable) discipline and hard work needed to build and maintain such a physique themselves become more important selling points than the ability to incarnate the role; it’s part of how a star is defined as “worthy” — yaar kitnee mehnat karta hai — truly a triumph of the Weberian Protestant ethic!

  12. Cannot agree more!! It is also that we do not write a character/script keeping a specific actor in mind, rather we write a script and then try and get the dates of the actor who is a hit or having a good run at that period of time. So that his popularity could be en-cashed to sell the film (as its all about the number games nowadays, 100cr -150cr…). so, as a result one finds a series of films of a particular actor in a given year, one after the other. And for the leading ladies its even worse, is there anyone right now apart from Depika or Sonakshi!!???

        • the trailer is fine otherwise! Actually with a better cast this would have been a fun film. But Ranveer Singh has always seemed intolerable to me. And Arjun Kapoor’s stylized Abhishek-lite has never had much appeal for me either (though I’d take him over Ranveer).

It’s a great time to be a female consumer of Bollywood though. The camera is far more obsessed with men’s bodies. One misses the good old days! Ha!

          • Ha, I read your comment before you edited it ‘they look like pornstars in the tralier’ and I’d just seen your above response saying you liked the trailer, so it made me giggle.

Yeah, one does miss the good old days, and for more reasons than just this 😉

I’m taking a break from films and reading JK Rowling’s new book. Liking it a lot (though the absence of magic is depressing!)

yes, it does seems the LA porn crew has shifted part-time to Bombay’s Mehboob studios..

          • Yes sometimes one has to be shamelessly so when one is constantly treated to these male bodies on screen! And though I might not be the best judge here I don’t quite see the appeal of this stuff. They all look the same and it seems somewhat repulsive if you ask me. Even with women I don’t quite like today’s representations very much where they all aspire to the same kind of physicality. So not saying I’d necessarily be a fan even if there was more of this. Never thought I’d miss the waterfall days though! They were unfortunate for a variety of reasons but if the alternative is Ranveer Singh prancing around like this I’m not sure if some regression isn’t valuable!

          • Oh god! now you have a problem with Ranveer! and why does Abhishek fit in all your analysis. Satyam I respected your word a lot but knowing you watched that crapfest dhoom3 2 times and have no issues with the movie or aamirs hamming constipated act..its just too sad

          • Not now, I always had a problem with Ranveer! Find him offensive.

On D3 could watch it a third time too. Have my issues with the film but it’s nonetheless very watchable. As for Aamir again find him less convincing at points here but don’t have a problem as such.

But yes I’ve always found Ranveer somewhat intolerable! On Abhishek only mentioned him because Arjun Kapoor has been trying to be a clone from day 1!

    • I won’t be completely surprised if by the end of next year, Ranveer overtakes Ranbir. Neither of Ranbir’s movies look commercially viable but Gunday looks like it could hit 100 and Ranveer’s movie with Shaad Ali could do a YJHD.

  17. This looks like superhit in the making imo. 100+ probably. Ranveer Singh seems like the only actor (among the new generation) who can come relatively close to Ranbir Kapoor. Overall I’m enjoying all these movies/competition among our new generation.

Gunday is sure shot blockbuster. People are probably waiting for this. 100 cr no big deal. I think it has a chance at 150 cr i f supported by good reviews.

    • I predicted sureshot 100 cr and possible 150.
But, i am surprised it has just 1 mn views in 5 weeks. Though, it may not be ultimate parameter. D3 had much less views than k3 , also songs views were very less.
Still, 1mn views is incredibly low.

  23. Satyam: “Gunday is sure shot blockbuster. People are probably waiting for this. 100 cr no big deal. I think it has a chance at 150 cr i f supported by good reviews.” I get totally opposite vibes. It is all over the place, just like Aurangzeb. Have not seen 10 seconds of soul anywhere in the film. It is just too much sound and colours and fury. I have no reason to trust the quality of writing. The pointer towrads that for me was the line by Irrfan, ” Me tum dono o tumharo Lanka se kuto ki trah ghasit ke le jaoonga.” Or something like that. The line had no rhyme or reason. Waht has Lanka got to do with Kutto? No. This one is a goner. The ones that look promising this quarter are ‘ Hansee toh Phansee’ , ‘ Tu Mera Hero and that film with Ali Jafar and Yami Gautam. all three are funny, bright and youthful,
