Nanda passes away…
LINK
Legendary actor Nanda who is best known for films like Hum Dono (1961), Teen Deviyan and Kanoon (1960), passed away on Tuesday morning, following a heart attack. She was 75.
“Yes, she passed away this morning after a heart attack at her residence,” the relative confirmed to IANS.
Waheeda Rehman, who was a very good friend of Nanda, rushed to her residence as soon as she got the news, said a source close to the actress. Waheeda and Nanda had worked together in Kala Bazar.
The actor, who started as a child artiste went on to form a hit pair with actor Shashi Kapoor in many movies like Char Diwari (1961), Mohabbat Isko Kehte Hain (1965), Jab Jab Phool Khilen (1965) among others.
Her co-star veteran actor Manoj Kumar said, “It’s very unfortunate. I had the privileged to have worked with her in three films. She was senior to me but she was so friendly that she never let me have any inferiority complex.”
Nanda started her career in 1956 with V Shantaram’s (her paternal uncle) Toofan Aur Diya.
After playing supporting roles in Bhabhi, Dev Anand’s Kala Bazar, and Dhool Ka Phool, the actor rose to stardom with LV Prasad’s Chhoti Bahen (1959), where she played the title role.
Her other significant films include Gumnaam, The Train (1970) and Joroo Ka Ghulam (1972).
She won Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for Anchal (1960).
Nanda was born in a Maharashtrian show-business family to Vinayak Damodar Karnataki (Master Vinayak), a successful Marathi actor-director. Her father died when Nanda was young. The family faced hard times and she had to take up acting as a child star in films such as Jaggu in the early 1950s. Her brother is Marathi film director Jaiprakash Karnataki and Jayashree Talpade is her sister-in-law.

Very sad. She could have lived longer.
Waheeda Rehman will miss her terribly. They were such close friends.
Pati Patni with Sanjeev Kumar was a nice film and I love this song from it.

true OG – listen how she was miffed of WR at the first meeting only to be her best friend later on – and nanda was madly in love with Manmohan Desai who died and after that she never married……she says in that talk that she always feels MD around her as he loved her so much ……platonic love!

Very sorry to hear this lamentable news. R.I.P. Very nice tribute here by Satyam.
On another (happier) note, this new film starring Irfam Kahn and helmed by a newbie has opened in the NYC area to very positive reviews.

I didn’t write the tribute Sam..
On Lunchbox that’s a movie worth checking out even if I wasn’t a huge fan of it.
