  1. Ghai has really struggled since his glory days..

  2. This looks so mediocre!…Feels like a dubbed film, a lot of bengali industry actors…

Even Ghai’s 2 decade old blockbusters have not aged well. Watch them today and they are laughable.

    • agreed, most of his very 80s stuff seems dated, even something like Hero or Karma which are enjoyable otherwise. I still think his somewhat B attempts in Vishwanath and Kalicharan are classics of sorts. And Karz is still a very worthwhile film. Or these three are not dated in any sense. Hero too might be fine, it is a great watch despite the datedness in some respects. Beyond this though it’s hard for me to watch anything else he’s done with the exception of Karma which is a well put-together film in many respects but is ideologically problematic (for me) in other ways.

      • I like to see Karma every time it comes on. It has great repeat value. I dont mind parts of Meri Jung and most of Karz too. Among his recent works I can see some parts of Pardes once in a while. But since then I have never liked any of his movies. His music sense remains great though…

        • yes within that Yashraj genre he tried to coopt Pardes is one of the better films and probably more watchable than most of the actual Yashraj/Johar stuff. In a strange way though Pardes was the film that really ended his career. This revealed to everyone that the iconic Ghai was really over! he tried going down this path a bit more with Yaadein but that film was a remarkable embarrassment.

Pardes and Karz remain my favorite Ghai films. I usually skip quite a few scenes of the others while watching reruns of them on TV

  8. Karma is my absolute favorite .. among top 3 masala entertainers of 80’s. I loved most of Subhash Ghai movies till Saudagar … Khalnayak was little disappointment but still not bad .. he changed route with Pardes and Taal. Both were good as well … but somewhere Ghai trademark lost and he knew it. That’s why his further attempts were mostly revive his signature movies rather than johar’s .. but he failed to blend his style with current sensibilities.

btw this promo is looking completely outdated like some delayed movie … even Yuvraj was looking contemporary that time.

Atleast we may get a fresh heroine.

  12. The heroine looks like a cross between Mahima chaudhury and rani Mukherjee. Not bad. We have very few, if not none, a heroine with north eastern features. We need to have more from those states so that the other India will develop more affinity towards them and the atrocities against them will decrease and stop. Mandakini of RTGM disappeared after a while who had these features.

The trailer is showing a strong girl, a determined girl. The only disappointment is the unknown hero seemingly playing second fiddle to the heroine. Ghai should have taken a known face. And music also matters.

The mountains, the visuals, the mist have been captured beautifully.

the big disappointment might be SG himself – he is so much obsessed with that showman labelled to him in 80-90s that he refuses to come out of that……….anyway this title track was slightly better then the previous promo but still that OTT hangover is quite visible

    • Problem is when he come out of his signature style in Pardes and Taal .. even though both were success, perception was that Ghai has lost his touch (and rightly so). Then he tried to bring back his magic with Kishna .. but 80’s was over long back.

    • Ghai is in position of no return .. only if he had next generation kids with him like Chopras and Dhawan have such support.. there would have little chances. Else .. adopting new technology, getting gel with new era .. and still retaining old magic is not easy job.

off-topic: Aamir’s birthday today – here is some of the films he had rejected: (some names are surprising)
    1). Saajan (Sanjay Dutt’s role)
2). Hum Aap ke hei kaun?
    3). Darr
    4). 1942 a love story
    5). Josh
6). Naayak (I am very unhappy that aamir rejected all of the above and this one particulary – what a film which deserved aamir and his genius marketing!)

    • Happy birthday to aamir. I forgot. Thanks for reminding.

I feel that he must have rejected because of some good reasons.
He must have chosen some other films during those times.

    • Except josh and 1942, rest all could have been triumph card for Aamir ..

      • Josh could have been a hit if aamir portrayed the role of srk (which is what he wanted but the director declined) and 1942 was a wonderful film.

I think it is staged. If not, kudos to Vidya. People are really tired of SRK’s jaded act on every award show and you can literally hear people groan anytime he appears on stage.

        Like

        • It was probably staged but the interesting thing even so is that this kind of humor was hardly ‘authorized’ once upon a time! But there’s a more cynical reading to all of this as well. When SRK was at his peak we didn’t hear such jokes, now we do, this indexes his decline but at the same time the humor also targets awards-as-such and so everyone else who wins also cannot truly celebrate!

  17. Audio release of KAANCHI –

Feel bad for Ghai. He just hasn’t been able to somehow matter to the WASSUP generation. I hope he meets his success here. Lot of nostalgia w.r.t ’80s associated with him. Managing to get tickets for a Ghai film even till KHALNAYAK was indeed a matter of some pride for us..

On another note, I hope he stops trying to master English in order to appear relevant. He is good as he is. And he seems to have a good ear for rap!!

    • During Khalnayak he was undisputed number one director of Bollywood. But his style of filmmaking suddenly lost relevance post mid 90’s …
