“We are happy to announce that the film is titled ‘Shamitabh’. As in SH before Amitabh. We are half way through the shoot of the film, so will finish and talk more about it.

The buzz in K-town is that Dhanush who recently made his debut in Bollywood with ‘Raanjhana’ is all set for his next Bollywood flick! The most intersting part of the film is that, the ‘Why this Kolaveri’ star would be sharing screen space with Amitabh Bachchan in the film directed by noted film maker Balki, who is known for this films ‘Cheeni kum’ and ‘Paa’. It is important to note that this is the same role in which Shahrukh Khan had initially allocated his dates.

After pairing up with Shruti Haasan in ‘3’, Dhanush is set to romance Kamal Haasan’s younger daughter Akshara Haasan in this yet to be titled flick. Balki’s regular cast Ilayaraja and PC Sriram likely to take the music & cinematography chair respectively as well. Looks like Dhanush is set to rock Bollywood one more time after giving a critically appreciated hit film ‘Raanjhana’.

Dhanush, who is planning to begin the shooting for this untitled Hindi film beginning early 2014 right after completing his current films ‘Velai Illa Pattadhari’ and ‘Anegan’ in Tamil.

    • Hmmm -what’s her name
How many more daughters does kamal hassan uncle have ?
Doesn’t she look like an upcoming ash a bit

Ps: my free advice to her—
      Leave direction for later
Jump into filmdom as an actress
We will ‘support ‘ u (in every which way!)

I think she has ‘potential’ (waiting to be tapped)

    • Yhea, me too. Did you like the movie?. Commendable for him to pass off as bhaiyya being a south indian, so basically good acting. However I think as a hero, he doesn’t have the personality.

  3. This sounds intresting but hope Bachchan and Dhanush are not two college pals romancing the ssame girl..You can expect anything from Balki and Bachchan cambo as both are intrested in experimenting..Examples are Cheeni Kam and Paa.

  5. Lol Yakuza! but really speaking if they’ll try any such thing again then that’ll be really pathetic. They must keep the suject realisitic as much as they can as Balki can’t handle those unrealisitic sujects that well. One more thing that Balki must consider this time and that is to make a boxoffice friendly movie .If this one is as good as Raanjhna then there’ll be no problem for this movie boxoffice wiise.

    • No way .. Balki didn’t repeat himself in first two movies (technically three .. EV) .. and both had good content and success at BO. Post 2000 .. only Balki, Santoshi, RGV, ROM and David dhawan bring out interesting work from him .. yes, I consider Hum Kisi se kum nahi as one of his most underrated performance .. I saw three back to back shows when this movie was released. I was pretty sure it will work big at BO .. but shocked to see it failing.

  7. Bachchan also mentions on his blog today that next year he has a Shoojit Sircar project coming up with Irrfan Khan.

    • Great news. So he atleast has 2 substantial projects lined up (apart from that would-be turd Bhootnath Returns). I am very excited about Shoojit’s project- long wanted to see Irrfan with AB. But this means that the Sudhir Mishra film with Rishi Kapoor has been delayed again- this was the film I was looking forward to the most (and this tells us that until and unless Bachchan actually starts shooting for these films, we should not jump the gun and go into celebratory mood).

Sadly there is no news of Sircar’s Shoebite/Jonny Mastana releasing in the near future. This looked like a really worthwhile film

      • Yes and it is also sad that I think even with big money, the studios are not putting in time to get this film out of the legal wrangle. It is frustrating that a potential master-class in acting (as per anybody who got a chance to see and work on this) is lying in the cans..

Glad about these new ones. Hope B2 releases 1st and clears the way for these good ones. Am also excited about the Vidhu one and the Kashyap one. The Kashyap one about AB playing a detective simply seems to be a rumor or at least seems to have died a death..

    • Haven’t watched and don’t intend to. Didn’t found promos interesting enough – more like reharsh of previous Dhanush tamil roles, and this kind of deja vu was just boring. But I’ve watched Mariyan and it was overwhelming experience (plus: Dhanush was paired with really great actress there, not wooden ‘star daugther’ :P)

  11. Abhishek to produce Balki’s next starring Big B
    December 16, 2013

Actor Abhishek Bachchan, who earlier produced the 2009-released film “Paa” which turned out to be a hit, is now set to produce his next film to be directed by R. Balki and also featuring Amitabh Bachchan.
“Balki’s new film is a much bigger film. It will require a higher budget compared to ‘Paa’. We are currently in the process of locking the script and working on it. The pre-production is going on. It’s a bigger film so the film requires bigger budget,” Abhishek told IANS when asked about the budget and pre-production plans of the film.
Reportedly Balki is all set to launch Kamal Haasan’s younger daughter Akshara Haasan with this film opposite Dhanush. The film also features megastar Amitabh Bachchan.
Talking about his own acting plans, Abhishek who has also been part of a Bengali film titled “Antarmahal” with late Rituparno Ghosh, says he is open to doing regional films as well.
“I have done Bengali films. I am an actor so if I am comfortable I am ready to work in any language. If I can overcome the hurdle of language and if I feel I can do justice to the role I am open to it,” he said.

“While Dhanush will play a mute and deaf character, Amitabh will play the man who will be his voice. The film has been shot in beautiful locales of Mumbai, Goa and Ooty.”

“R. Balki stated that they have ‘Sh’ before Amitabh because it is the name of the character in the film.”

  15. Shamitabh to be shot in Helsinski
    By Subhash K. Jha, June 23, 2014 – 10:36 hrs IST#

The quest for virgin locations has taken R. Balki to the European country of Finland to shoot Shamitabh.

Balki has shot his two earlier films in Europe. Cheeni Kum was shot in London and Paa in Oxford.

No Indian film film has been shot in Helsinki before.

Says a source from the crew, “Balki Sir chose Helsinski after considerable thought. A portion of the plot unfolds in a European country. We needed a quaint quiet scenic European spot which hasn’t been over-exposed in cinema.”

The Big B who is taking a keen interest in the behind-the-scenes activities for Shamitabh had a big hand in choosing Helsinski.

Speaking from the location Balki said, “Ours would be the first Indian film to be shot in Helsinski. We are going to shoot in a place called Lapland close to Helsinski.”
