Oscar-winning actor and comic Robin Williams died Monday at 63 of an apparent suicide, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
Around 11:55 a.m. Monday, sheriff’s officials said, a 911 call came in about a man who was unresponsive in his home in Tiburon. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Williams “has been battling severe depression of late,” his publicist Mara Buxbaum said. “This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”

IMO not really shocking because he had been really struggling with depression and alcoholism went out this way.
But its just sad and disheartening that someone who made others laugh so hard and provided all kinds of happiness was completely broken, empty and lifeless inside. This guy was an all-around talented star.

very revealing interview back in 2010…
Some have suggested it was Reeve’s death that turned him back to drink. “No,” he says quietly, “it’s more selfish than that. It’s just literally being afraid. And you think, oh, this will ease the fear. And it doesn’t.” What was he afraid of? “Everything. It’s just a general all-round arggghhh. It’s fearfulness and anxiety.”
I ask if he feels happier now, and he says softly, “I think so. And not afraid to be unhappy. That’s OK too. And then you can be like, all is good. And that is the thing, that is the gift.”

He was battling drug and alcohol addictions which deepened his depression. It was reported that he went to rehab in July.
I remember this quote from Robin: “I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all alone, it’s not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people who make you feel all alone.”
RIP
People who make us laugh are usually the saddest people internally. I lost a friend to suicide a couple years ago who no one knew was depressed because he was always laughing and full of life.

Louis C.K.’s brilliant show on FX, Louie had an episode from season three (episode six) that’s on Netflix for those interested. Robin Williams guest stars in it, and in light of this pretty sobering news it seems eerily relevant. Worth a watch, and Louie is a show that doesn’t need to necessarily be watched in any order.
