  1. Very striking image.

  2. His choice of clothes and glasses would look good on Ranveer but doesn’t go well with Abhi. Looks like something lifted from Gulliver’s travels. Meh

    • I tend to disagree: precisely because a Ranbir would be the obvious choice for this sort of thing, the effect might be foppish (resulting from a reinforcement). Here there is an element of incongruity (it is deliberate, because we can see it echoed in the Gulliver theme) that I found more interesting (Naveen elsewhere on this thread makes a similar point)…

      • Ranbir and Ranveer are two different people. I like your arguements. Interesting.
Somehow I don’t like Abhi in “tapori” things. He excudes class and culture (what with being grandson of Harivansh Rai Bachchan etc). Ratnani should have put him in nice suit or a dhoti but not in this chex-mix suit 😦

      • Anyhow, there is nothing desi in any of these pics. You might as well be looking at GQ or Vogue from west. True artist (Ratnani) could have captured something that was essentially earthy, desi while being mordern. Naked Vidya Balan with sunglasses, tacky, tacky, tacky.

That is true, like so much in Bollywood today (too many films to list) they are mostly quite derivative. But I would say Jay is on to something in singling out the Abhishek and Akshay pictures: these preserve a sense of oddness, literally representing a “mismatch”, that is perhaps the only way these days to acknowledge what Hindi cinema used to be…

          • Just love Akshay and his writer wife who is pretty grounded (unlike other socialite, drug addict bollywood wives). Exept for one thing (which I won’t mention here) everything about Akki is values and good middle class upbringing. True Bourgeois

          • A ‘drug addict Bollywood wife’ to use your cliche might be a more ethical person than a family values type who’s a great philanderer on the side. But yes it’s ‘bourgeois’ to love this kind of hypocrisy.

    • oops…sorry read the title late. It’s Abhishek and not Arjun…but man, what a resemblance.
The background is superb. I think there are more actors shot in the calendar…so wondering how good they shall be?

  5. Was very surprised by this image, came across this yesterday. To have Abhishek B towering over the cityscape, Abhishek Bachchan, the actor / star who isn’t quite the towering figure onscreen in every movie, who sort of has his own space created, as an actor. Still not there but presence felt nevertheless. To put him as this gigantic man who seems to own the world around him, the pic makes one go back to it several times.

    • Agree….Salman or Big B or Aamir should be here. But then that would not have surprised us. As shock and surprise factor is imp to make classic photos…am sure Ratnani got his lamb right.

I did not insinuate anything of this kind. Am surprised at AB’s Godzilla like posturing here. That is all.

        • the Gulliver trope isn’t a bad one though.. and it works precisely with Abhishek more than anyone else. Gulliver too is out of place in Lilliput, a kind of ‘barbarian’. And of course the irony has always been that Abhishek is the ultimate insider (I’ve argued elsewhere that the reaction to him is often ‘furious’ precisely because he is the insider-as-outsider rather than someone truly from the outside).

In any case he’s got what is easily the most creative image from this calendar (at least based on the ones I’ve seen). I’d go further and say I cannot remember another Ratnani image as interesting as this one.

  6. Well, this can be used for a film poster. Definitely eye catching.
Or ad for shoes, suitings and shades.

    • The best ones are Abhishek and Akshay. Abhishek’s is a towering and classy poster which has some imagination. There is a nice mix of class and cheekiness in Akshay’s. The others are a bit meh and lack creativity where only Parineeti Chopra’s one is not bad.

  7. Parineeti’s in the tub was good – like the girl next door who you want to do against every door you find….

  8. Saw all the pics. Alia Bhatt’s stands out. Rest all are boring.
