ha! Though I will always feel some degree of affection for even these absurdities Stallone associates himself with. Certainly when it comes to Rocky. And I don’t have time to get into it now but there’s a certain marriage of nostalgia and the absurd that can work quite well for a star.
i agree with the nostalgia factor. i wouldn’t necessarily call this attempt ‘absurd’ because this time Stallone is just an actor; it’s the first time he hasn’t written a Rocky movie. The writer and director of this movie is coming off a critically acclaimed ‘Fruitvale Station’.
I think this is a fresh look at the “other side” and it’s more of a spin-off of a character in Rocky than just another Rocky movie.
for this case the reviews don’t lie! its 93% at RT and can see why after I watched it tonight. The movie had me totally hooked…the fight scenes are great and it has all the elements of great commercial cinema…drama, light-heart moments, romance, strong acting, music is unbelievable and yes it compares very well to the original Rocky. If that movie won an Oscar for best picture…then this one should at least be nominated this year.
