  1. I didnt realize this will be a loud Anees Bazmee kind of comedy deal….That doesn’t mean it wont do well, but I thought it will be a more subtle kind of deal..
This needs a chartbuster song and it can open decently

  2. Haven’t seen a more pathetic attempt at comedy. Nothing shown in the trailer is remotely funny. The acting i so bad, and Abhishek is the worst. Why is he so stiff?

      • Umesh Shukla says in the launch event that this film has a strong message and that he would never make a ‘mindless comedy’. To the extent that there’s overlap here with Piku (though of course tonally the films are completely different) they’ve been a bit unlucky in that without the Smriti Irani delay the film would have released first. Having said that the Piku memory isn’t such a bad thing!

  4. Very mediocre trailer here (as Krish said above, this looks more in the Bazmee vein and that’s not a good thing. I don’t even see much business sense in it because Abhishek isn’t associated with over-the-top kind of comedy) and looks suspiciously like a poorer (and cruder) version of Piku. And Abhishek needs to improve his dialogue delivery. I still hope that the film is better than this trailer, but unless Shukla has pulled off a miracle here, I doubt this will work.

BB, HNY? though I should add I don’t think he himself is really over the top here the way everyone else is.

      • He certainly has done those films, but he isn’t “associated” with slapstick comedies the way Akshay or Govinda is. And that’s because he hasn’t done a solo starrer in this genre till now. A similar example would be Devgn who has done his Gomaal(s) and BB, but has hardly done a solo of that kind. Of course, the difference here is that Abhishek is far better at comedy than Devgn.

        • fair enough… I think the larger issue with him often is that when he does something lowbrow whether he is good at it or not a lot of people find it less acceptable coming from him because of his screen history and the choices he’s made in the past. The paradox of course is that the same folks are also not as forgiving of those more serious choices. I’m assuming a certain sincerity either way. In other words if the point is to do only a Guru (critically and commercially) that’s a hard bar for any actor! In other words if one is more forgiving of those efforts even when one doesn’t like them that’s one thing. But if one considers them big failures or something it’s hard for the actor to go in a different direction and yet satisfy the same folks. Because certain projects are inherently risky.

    • Yup looks to be a Shetty kind of mix (obviously not quite as over the top as that). Think they’ve highlighted some of the comedy and over the top stuff more but there’s probably enough romance here in the second half. Surprised at some here who were expecting something different from the OMG director. I would love to see him do a Piku but this film was never going to be that! However if it works it could be much bigger than it. it’s more accessible to a larger audience obviously. I’d predict a successful film here but in the end it will of course depend on whether Shukla is actually in OMG-like form or not. Not saying this is my ideal film (on that note I revisited OMG around the PK release and while it was enjoyable enough and a harmless pleasure I continue to be mystified why people love it so much) but Abhishek hasn’t done one of those in a long time (as far as I’m concerned). But whether I actually like it or not will depend on the film being truly a Shetty-like effort or alternatively having some genuine moments in between the crazy sequences. Don’t find the trailer problematic otherwise.

The one thing I always do not like is continuity issues in terms of look. So they reshot large parts for not every single thing. Hence in a few scenes you see Abhishek with an older look. Everywhere else he’s fine.

I was watching Mr. India with my kids and realized how complete that movie was.
I also realized that we as Indians like comedy movies but not buffoonery beyond a Pont.
Mr. India clicked because Anil Kapoor was a simpleton , but was not a fool.
Movies like Badshah, JBJ, Besharam etc. bomb . The one exception was APKGK which I personally could NOT stand it but was a decent hit.

        • Somehow never liked Mr India much. Not surprised it did so well though.

On the rest I think spoofs are very hard to pull off in India, not over the top as much. The thing with the latter is that either it must be brilliantly handled in terms of the chemistry the actors share, the pacing of the film and so forth or it must be embedded in a proper narrative. Otherwise it becomes repetitive beyond a point. This is why Shetty rarely gets strong trending on his films. He’s happy to just get the low hanging fruit but not take it beyond this. Even in a multiplex genre Dostana for instance was fantastic at many points in the first half. However the second half was ‘Joharized’ and the film was made much tamer and predictable as a result. Ultimately there’s no substitute for having real resonance in a film. One can make it up on occasion with a film that continually goes from strength to strength in terms of comedy (over the top or not) but this is again hard to achieve for the entire length of a film. A narrative offers moments of respite where the audience can take a breather and get back into the flow of things. Constant comedy like constant action gets exhausting and/or boring. Unless of course it’s someone like Mukherjee doing Golmaal or CC. But hope many times does that happen?!

The continuity or lack thereof is glaringly visible (AB with different hairstyles, diff looks) and AB’s dialog delivery also seems off. Why the heck would AB agree to doing a movie like this is simply beyond me. This one seems to be a sureshot dud… a decent opening seems out of the question. A nail in the proverbial coffin for AB? For AB’s sake I hope that I’m completely wrong. Thoroughly disappointed.

  19. ‘All Is Well’ Is A Modern Day Shravan Kumar’s Story : Rishi Kapoor
By News Network Thu, July, 02 2015

Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor who was last seen on big screens in ‘Bewakoofiyan’ playing Sonam Kapoor’s dad, is all excited about his upcoming release, ‘All Is well’.

The versatile actor was all present yesterday at the trailer launch of the film with his co-stars Abhishek Bachchan, Asin and Supriya Pathak.

Talking about the film, the actor stated that the film is a modern day Shravan Kumar’s story. (Shravan Kumar is a mythological character in ‘Ramayana’, who carried his old parents in two baskets each tied to a bamboo pole on a pilgrimage.)

As Rishi said, “The movie is a modern day Shravan Kumar’s story, where he did ‘char dhaam ki yatra’ for his parents… This is the flavour of the film,”

Talking about the film, ‘All Is Well’ has Rishi and Supriya playing parents to Abhishek.

Whereas, Asin will be seen as Abhishek’s love interest.

‘All is Well’, is been directed by Umesh Shukla.

The film will hit big screens on 21st August.

        • Brothers looks bad, so hopefully it won’t be strong in its second week when All Is Well releases. Phantom is a mixed bag- everything Saif Ali Khan touches becomes a flop these days, however with Katrina, Kabir Khan after BB, and Sajid Nadiawala who promotes his productions really well, All is Well could lose a significant number of scenes its second week. After that is Hero which is no threat, but I heard Welcome Back is also releasing that day in which case All Is Well’s 3rd week will be minimal. Hopefully it can maintain Chennai Express like trending (since that film also had 1 film release every week after its release) and that would take it to 100 crores probably.

The beats of that song teaser sound good, if the tune is comparable then it is a chartbuster. T-Series I don’t think have ever had a flop soundtrack for a film that they are producing- Aashiqui 2, Yaariyan, Roy, etc. Those films are all terrible but that is another story.

        • Since when do YouTube views have a directly proportional relationship with BO success? And kareena’s song isn’t looking too good, definitely not going to be as big as Chikni Chameli (also because Kareena never has had the same sex appeal as Katrina). And it’s budget is very high. It will probably be a hit but definitely not a blockbuster. And if Akki can’t open big/ have a big grosser in the masala genre, I don’t think he can get past 20 crores opening day hear even with Dharma’s promotion. Also it’s not as if the original was a super hit, it barely recovered its costs. It’s kind of another Bang Bang situation.

        • There are three big production houses involved in Brothers. Lionsgate, Dharma and Endemol India. Don’t think they’ll invest such a high amount if they aren’t confident about the product.

Warriors is an action film with strong emotional undercurrent. If it did not work in Hollywood doesn’t mean its not a good film. Karan Malhotra is a decent director who has helmed Agneepath better than was expected from a remake.

It will definitely be Akki’s biggest grosser with opening day > 20. Also it has independence day on Saturday.
Kareena is looking super hot from the Mary teaser. I dont know what video you watched.

          Like

        • Actually when they’re three big houses involved it’s precisely about sharing the risk or having a smaller portion of it in each case! It’s not as if this is some madly expensive production where that sort of arrangement could be justified in other ways. On the rest here’s the problem with Brothers as I see it. This is not about becoming a success or not but the scale either way. The Hollywood film though not my favorite was certainly a worthwhile effort. It got good reviews and so on. Akshay however, at least outside his comedies or sequels or whatever, has been unable to get close to a 100, precisely on the successful films. From Gabbar to Baby and so on. These are films that have found an audience but clearly he’s suffered from a great shrunken base from sometime now. In the right film he could nonetheless generate more interest but I suspect Brothers isn’t a ‘family’ audience deal. A film about boxing is unlikely to attract certain core multiplex demographics. To get over that hump you need either a star who’s hot in a multiplex sense or you need to add enough things here to attract the same demographics in other ways (even the title here spells ‘all-male affair’!). Maybe that is the case here. I don’t know. I actually expect a better film than Agneepath. Nonetheless Hrithik first off never has an initial problem most days. Secondly the Agneepath remake deal was a huge story. It had Dutt as the villain, Katrina’s item song and so on. Whether Brothers can match these ‘frills’ also remains to be seen. But again I wouldn’t be surprised at all at a successful film but unless it has super trending any film these days cannot make up completely for the lack of a very strong initial. A successful film is one thing, perhaps it can even get to a 100 or something, I’d be very surprised at a juggernaut though (even in the initial stages). I could be wrong but if so I wouldn’t be displeased because I am always rooting for Akshay.

        • Brothers is a Dharma production. So I will safely say it will open better than an average Akshay Kumar movie. And knowing Dharma productions they will hog screens in the second week. So AIW will have that disadvantage to start with. But then AIW was not expected to be the kind of movie which needs to maximize screen count. It was always expected to play like a WOM movie (though I am surprised that the trailor is not as subtle as I expected a WOM movie to be). It should target a 6 to 7 crore Day 1 and then jump from that. If the WOM is good, it will play well into Week 2 even with Phantom coming. The family audience do not go for Brothers or Phantom. They prefer a AIW or a Welcome Back. If the WOM is bad it will flop anyways as the theatres wont keep it on for too long considering the pipeline. So IMO Brothers or Phantom will have limited effect on it if the family audience take to it. The target for AIW would be 100 crores as a best case and not 200 crores and one can get to 100 crores even with multiple releases around it if the target audience takes to it.

  26. After a spectacular start with Aamir Khan in Ghajini, Asin seems to have disappeared from world-view.

What happened to this promising sprightly South Indian beauty who was so much in demand after her debut in the year 2008 when she swept all the awards right from under the nose of the other debutante of the year Anushka Sharma?

In fact Anushka had expressed her disappointment at being so completely usurped at the awards by Asin.

Today the two actresses are in reversed positions with Asin facing extinction from Bollywood while Anushka has raced to the top.

According to a major producer, “It’s all karma catching up with her. Asin had it all, the looks and the talent. She squandered it all with her high-handed attitude. She rejected plum assignments with the biggest of the production houses to do big-budgeted films with top heroes. Those films did nothing to her career. When she said no to Mukesh Bhatt, he prophesied she won’t last long. Sadly Mr. Bhatt’s words seem to have come true.”

Another source, a co-star and former close friend blames Asin’s father. “He controls every aspect of her life, personal and professional. Or, at least he used to. I now hear she’s not so dependent on him anymore. But the damage is done.”

There is hope, though. And it’s in the form of Umesh Shukla’s All Is Well where she’s cast opposite Abhishek Bachchan who last played her brother in Rohit Shetty’s Bol Bachchan.

Umesh thinks Asin will “definitely” make a comeback in All Is Well. “She is a brilliant actress. Very expressive. She deserves success. I loved her work in Ghajini and many of her South Indian films. No one can stop talent.”

After the success of ‘Zindagi Aa Raha Hoon Main’ featuring Tiger Shroff, Amaal Mallik has churned out another chartbuster ‘Chaar Shanivar’ from ‘All Is Well’, sung by Vishal Dadlani. The track, which released recently, has already become a hit with the audiences.
Ask Amaal how did the song ‘Chaar Shanivaar’ happen, “The idea was bounced to Bhushan Kumar (Producer), his reaction was instant and very positive. Everything just happened so quickly, Bhushan sir played the song to Abhishek Bachchan and Umesh Shukla sir (director) and they loved it.”

The track has been written by Shabbir Ahmed, along with a T-Series produced music video featuring Abhishek Bacchan. Also, it is the first time Vishal Dadlani and Amaal Mallik have done a song together.
Probe him about how he feels now that the song that is slowly becoming a huge hit, he expresses, “I’m very excited about this song, it’s the first time I’m collaborating with Vishal Dadlani who has simply rocked the song and taken it to another level with his energy and vibe. And the signature theme of the song has been sung by my younger brother Armaan. It feels good.”

The song has a peppy rhythm and has connected well with everyone. Ask Amaal what went into the making of the song and he reveals, “Chaar Shanivaar is a 6/8 song with Elements of Dubstep & EDM along with a mix of Indian beats with electronic synchs. There were 4 Big Pune Dhols, Baltis, Trash Cans, Taasha and whole range of percussions arranged to create the heavy rhythms for this song.”

Interestingly, ‘Chaar Shanivaar’ has been choreographed by Ahmed Khan, who earlier did Sooraj Dooba from ‘Roy’, Zindagi Aa Raha Hoon Main, Tere Bin & Saiyaan Superstar from ‘Leela’.

‘All Is Well’ directed by Umesh Shukla stars Abhishek Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Supriya Pathak Kapoor and Asin in the lead. The film releases on August 21, 2015.

In addition to what I said there the song now has 1 m views. Meanwhile the Bajrangi Party song has stalled (still around 870k.. yesterday this and char shanivaar were neck and neck). On the other hand bhar do jholi from the same film has almost 2m views in a week. The point is that not every song or trailer somehow gets the same views.

      • Actually views on YouTube is most disillusioned stats to figure out anything .. because many factors contribute to views count. Like promotion .. if you pay for promotion then your video will run as an advertisement on YouTube channels and it adds to view count, no matter if it is skipped by viewer after 5 seconds .. though we can easily figure out if trailer is promoted as an ad or not .. if not, then view counts is definitely some indication.

Not to demean AIW and its YouTube views, but I’ll piggyback on what Yakuza is saying that I wouldn’t hold much faith in these stats. Social media stats are over inflated just as the American dollar has become. Anyone can buy views/likes/followers these days. The marketing companies have become so involved today taking advantage of social media outlets that it is hard to distinguish between real excitement and manufactured excitement.

Obviously this doesn’t apply just to AIW; all these movies/musicians/entertainers/politicians do it nowadays. The reality is that at the end of the day, content still matters in a movie, and if it is legitimately liked, then results prove it at the box office…all this hoopla about YT views is just irrelevant.

The fact (and yes it is fact) that most of these celebrities’ twitter followers are fake proves that social media numbers shouldn’t be taken into account when it comes to measuring ones popularity.

  30. Himesh Reshammiya composed a song ‘Baaton Ko Teri’ for the film Khiladi 786 sung by Arijit Singh.

Everyone was in love with the song and Asin shot montages of the song with Akshay Kumar but finally the song was not used in the film as it did not fit in. Asin then started shooting for Umesh Shukla’s All is Well in Bangkok.

On the first day of shoot, Asin was asked to shoot montages for a song in the film. She asked for the song to be played and she said, ‘Aahhh. This song? I know this song.’ It was again the same ‘Baaton Ko Teri’ song.

Only this time, she was shooting with Abhishek BachchanJ. It was an uncanny coincidence but one that she loved as the melody of the song had continued to haunt her ever since she had heard it for the first time. 37. After conveying a message with ‘OMG — Oh My God,’ director Umesh Shukla is ready with All Is Well which too has a message for youngsters as well as parents.

Umesh says he is heavily influenced by Charlie Chaplin and middle-of-the-road filmmakers like Bimal Roy, Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Raju Hirani and he makes sure his films convey these thoughts.

Besides All Is Well, Umesh Shukla talks about the possibility of a film with Sanjay Dutt and Abhishek’s star draw.

Why was the release of All Is Well delayed?

I was going to start All Is Well immediately after Oh My God; my script was also ready and we started our shoot in earnest. But Smriti Irani, who was going to play the mother’s character originally, became the country’s Minister of HRD and duty called. Since she couldn’t be part of the film, we parted on good terms and we had to replace her. For this reason, I had to reshoot; but we have not compromised on the story. Supriya Pathak who replaced Smriti has done a brilliant job.

Supriya Pathak plays an Alzheimer patient. How did you conceive Smriti Irani for this role — her image is of a very strong woman.

See, both of them are actors who are ready to take up any challenge. Playing this character was a challenge for Supriyaji too. Besides, she doesn’t play an Alzheimer patient from the beginning .. there is a graph to the character. Also it is interesting to see how the husband and her son treat her.

Is the cast of All Is Well your first choice?

Yes, my first choice was Rishi Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan as father and son. While narrating the story to Abhishek, I would take Chintuji’s (Rishi Kapoor) name though I had not even approached Chintu then. Abhishek asked me, ‘Are you sure he will do it?’ I told him that I was confident. He is a great actor and I got to learn a lot from him.

Rishi Kapoor is known to have a temper on set.

Yes, even I had heard about that, but I never faced any problems. People had told me that he does not work after 11 pm but we shot almost 14 full nights and there were no hiccups.

Like in recent films, Piku and Dil Dhadakne Do, your film All Is Well too is about the parent-child relationship. Do you detect a trend?

Actually, my film would have released before both these films. I am from theatre and I have noticed that when the audience comes backstage to tell me what they thought about the play, there is a marked gap between the two generations. Today, the definition of a joint family is mom, dad and kids staying together. The beauty of staying together has changed and this is what I wanted to bring to the notice of the audience through this film.

Why do your films seem message-oriented?

I like Bimal Roy, Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Raj Kumar Hirani films. Even if they don’t have a message, they are not brainless. It’s not compulsory that every film of mine will have a message but I just can’t relate to a film where the maker asks you to leave your brains at home. Charlie Chaplin made comedies but if you watch The Kid, you will be blown away by the message. Finally, however, a film should not be preachy.

Buzz is that you signed Sanjay Dutt for your next film. True?

The last time he came out of jail, I met him and narrated a one-line story. He told me he wanted to do the film; it will be a comedy with a message.

Umesh Shukla’s directorial debut, OMGOh My God!, with Akshay Kumar released in 2012. It has taken the filmmaker three years to wrap up his second film, All Is Well, featuring Rishi Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Asin and Supriya Pathak. Explaining the delay Umesh says, “I give a lot of time to scripting as I believe content is king. Also, we needed combination dates from all these actors. Abhishek was busy for a while promoting Happy New Year.”

Wasn’t Smriti Irani also one of the main reasons for the film being delayed? After she became the Union Minister for Human Resource Development, the actress got busy with active politics and had no dates to spare to complete the film. Finally, after a six-month-wait, they replaced her with Supriya Pathak and reshot the scenes. Did her exit leave behind a trail of bad blood? “Not at all, we parted amicably,” Umesh is quick to assure. “In fact, Smritiji herself told us to replace her as it was getting difficult for her to find the dates for the shoot. I knew Supriyaji from my theatre days and requested her to play the role. She agreed without any tantrums.”

He insists that the film isn’t an inane comedy. It showcases a father-son relationship and the concept of a joint family, which is lost today. “It’s not only about the children but parents too who, in this competitive world, have so many expectations from their children, which is unfair and stunts their natural growth. I’m sure after watching the film, families will understand each other better,” he promises.

Was Abhishek’s box-office prospects a source of concern for him? Umesh insists he cast the actor for his versatility and not commercial viability. “I don’t look at things from a business angle. For me, Abhishek has a certain poise, which was evident in Guru and Dostana, amazing comic timing and can carry off subtle scenes equally well. That’s something that I really like about him,” he says.

And Asin? She has also been out of circulation for a while and apparently unhappy about her part. Buzz is, she won’t promote the film. “Rubbish!” he exclaims. “Every character has an equally important role. Abhishek and her track is relevant to the script and shows how the family environment can affect one’s romantic life. Asin is happy with her role and excited to be a part of the promotions.”

Sonakshi Sinha, who had done a special number in OMG-Oh My God!, has done a song in this film too. “When Bhushan Kumarji played Farrate maarke for me, I could only think of Sonakshi. She is a dear friend and instantly loved this peppy number too. It features all the lead actors too and we had a great time shooting it,” he beams.

Post the film’s release, Umesh will start 102 Not Out with Amitabh Bachchan and Paresh Rawal. Written by Saumya Joshi, it is an adaptation of one of his plays with the Big B playing a 102-yearold man and Paresh his son.

“I’m ready with my first draft. It is inspired by a 118-year-old Chinese man who set a record of longevity,” he informs.

102 Not Out will kick off before he starts his film with Sanjay Dutt, which he is still scripting. “I’ll discuss with Sanju once he is out from jail. I have yet to cast the other actors. I can’t wait to begin,” he asserts.

He plays a son who gets troubled watching his parents fight and yet is very devoted to them. His character has to balance both, his parents and his personal life,” Shulka told PTI.

The director, who won critical acclaim for his satirical take on god-men in his hit 2012 drama “OMG – Oh My God!”, said he chose to do “All is Well” because of it’s universal appeal. “OMG had a universal subject, that of God and faith. Similarly, ‘All is Well’ tackles the theme of families and the complexities we have in them. I wanted a universal subject, one which will connect with people across all generations.”

The film chronicles the story of a debt-ridden bakery owner, Kapoor, who misplaces the jewellery of his wife (Supriya) and then undertakes a road trip along with his hassled son to find a solution.

Shukla, however, denied any comparison with this years hit road-trip movie “Piku”, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone, and said the subjects of both the films are different. “Yes, both movies talk about parent-child relationship and feature road-trip, but the subject is completely different. “Every romantic film will have ‘I love you’, similarly, every road trip movie will have a journey and some complications. Our film would’ve released earlier but it got delayed due to some reasons.”

  45. How is it like to be back in Kolkata?

I am half-Bengali so you can only imagine! My father is lovingly called Kolkata’s jamai and as soon as I touched down the airport, the crowd shouted, “amader nati!” So all I can say is, Kolkata’s grand son is very happy to be back! I remember, when I was shooting for Yuva back in 2004, people would yell “amader nati” on the streets. Today, the moment I reached, I took everyone for lunch and treated them to sandesh and hot rosogollas! Now I just want to go to KC Das and have some more!

You play Inder Bhalla, a modern day Shravan Kumar, in All Is Well. How much do you relate to your character in real life?

Honestly ,I do not relate to my character at all. He’s selfish and carries way too much emotional baggage. Personally , I do not like to harbour ill feelings. My approach towards life is simpler. I believe if you are upset about something, let it out of your system. One should never allow negative feelings to foster. Inder Bhalla is very bitter owing to his upbringing and the kind of life he has witnessed. I am more of a `live and let live’ kind of person.

How was it working with Supriya Pathak and Rishi Kapoor?

It was wonderful working with both of them. I call Supriyaji my `Nirupa Roy .’ This is the fourth film in which she’s playing my mother. Sarkar, Sarkar Raj, Dilli 6 (she played Sonam Kapoor’s mother but she was like mine too) and now All Is Well. Chintu uncle (Rishi Kapoor) again is an amazing co-star. Not for once did I feel that I was working with someone so senior. He has no starry airs.He treats you like an equal and that’s the best thing about him.

You played Asin’s brother in Bol Bachchan. You are playing her love interest in All Is Well. How} difficult was the transition as an actor?

Honestly, it wasn’t difficult at all. It’s my job and I love donning dif ferent characters. Asin is a great friend and we share a crackling chemistry. And when you are paired opposite a friend, it makes your job that much easy.

In the past few years we have been seen you in a lot of comic roles. Is this genre your favourite? Are you still waiting for your dream role?

I’m glad you brought it up. Back when I was a struggling actor, I had asked the same question to Shah Rukh Khan and he said something that will forever be etched in my memory . He said, “Your dream role should be the one you are portraying at the moment. There’s no such thing called a dream role. Unless you treat every role like it’s the great est role that you’ve been offered, you will never be able to give it your best.” His advice left a deeply satisfying effect on me as an actor.

Which places are you planning to visit around Kolkata this time?

I had made so many plans with Asin, Chintu uncle and Supriyaji but owing to prior commitments, they could not make it to Kolkata.I was really looking forward to taking them to the phuchka stall opposite Victoria Memorial. My dad suggested the phuchka joint there when I was shooting for Yuva here. In fact, in Yuva, there’s a shot in a montage where Rani (Mukherji) and I can be seen enjoying phuchkas from there. So, I’m hoping next time I’ll make it to all my favourite eateries.

    • Tu Milade if indeed in the film should work well as a climactic track and would also suggest a stronger emotional arc to the film. But again and to repeat my older comment don’t know what that cover version of ae mere humsafar is doing here. In any case it’s extremely poor compared to the original. Otherwise the job has been adequately done on the soundtrack. Not the kind of must that excites me (very little is these days!) but all three songs that have had trailers so far seem to have hit the mark.

  46. Over the last few years, you have been part of ensemble casts. All is Well is a solo film after a long time. But it’s been delayed for some time now…
Well, we expect the best. Reality, usually, is completely different from what we hope. We have to make do with things. We have given it our best, it’s a very sweet film. It’s a film which is close to my heart because I love the message in it. When I heard the story, I knew I wanted to be a part of this film because that’s something I wanted to say at that point of time. Yes, it had its shares of hiccups. But these things happen so you just need to move on and try and put your best foot forward.

People have also started comparing it to Piku. Comment.
The only similarity between Piku and All is Well is that both the films are about a road trip. And that’s it. There’s no other similarity.

  47. One of the cult romantic tracks of the 80s, ‘Ae mere humsafar’, that featured in the Aamir Khan-Juhi Chawla-starrer Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (QSQT), has been recreated for director Umesh Shukla’s All Is Well. The new version will feature in a highlight scene in the family entertainer that has Abhishek Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Asin and Supriya Pathak in the principle cast.

A source reveals that Umesh wanted a travel song and used the QSQT track as reference. But it fit so well that he wanted to retain it. As producer Bhushan Kumar has the music rights of the original track, he decided to get a new version. Composer Mithoon and singer Tulsi Kumar, who have previously collaborated for ‘Mujhe ishq se’ (Yaariyan) and ‘Naam-e-wafa’ (Creature 3D), were brought on board. The number has been added as a background score in a crucial part in the film. Amitabh Verma has penned the additional lyrics in such a way that they blend with the story.

Tulsi says, “Ae mere humsafar is one of my favourite songs from the 80s, and I was quite excited when I heard that it was being recreated for All Is Well. The original number has a happy, romantic vibe to it. I met Mithoon for this song’s sitting, and he briefed me about the situation and the change in lyrics. While recording, I was told to keep a smooth texture and give a surreal feel to it as demanded by the film’s situation. After I delivered the song, I received a text from Umesh Shukla sir, which read ‘Very well sung, no words, God bless’. For me this was the icing on the cake.”

    • Tulsi Kumar is an atrocious singer who only gets to sing songs because of her relation to Bhushan Kumar. I can’t stand her voice and it’s just worse than usual in this revamp of the QSQT song. The rest of the soundtrack sounds like your typical medium-hit soundtrack which should help the initial of the film a bit. Not as good as or big of a hit as T-Series’s lost production Roy but still decent.

And even with this slower rhythm it’s hard to believe a better job could not have been done with it. Certainly better voices could have been used. I know many people have liked it, far more seem to have liked it than not but it’s amazing to me that many can’t tell the difference between this and the original version.

    TNN | Jul 31, 2015, 12.00 AM IST

The soundtrack of director Umesh Shukla’s new venture, All Is Well, starring Abhishek Bachchan, Asin, Rishi Kapoor and Supriya Pathak, is fast catching on with the listeners. That’s a given since producer Bhushan Kumar is known to have a keen ear for chartbusters. All the three tracks of the family entertainer launched so far are earning appreciation.

‘Chaar Shanivaar’, composed by Amaal Mallik, penned by Shabbir Ahmed, sung by Vishal Dadlani and Armaan Malik with the rap written and rendered by Badshah, was not only trending on social media on the day of its launch, but also has the makings of a party anthem.

Written by Kumar, ‘Nachan Farrate’ has singer Kanika Kapoor crooning a Meet Bros composition, after their earlier collaborations on ‘Baby Doll’ (Ragini MMS2) and ‘Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan’ (Roy). This dance number, featuring Sonakshi Sinha, has become popular on the airwaves and on college campuses. The music company has also recreated the song ‘Ae Mere Humsafar’ (from Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak) as a travel number, composed by Mithoon, who has also sung it with Tulsi Kumar. Released earlier in the week, this track, with additional lyrics by Amitabh Verma, has received positive response as well.

Interestingly, ‘Baaton Ko Teri’, that brings together Himesh Reshammiya and Arijit Singh, has earned high appreciation, making it the third hit. Understandably, producer Varun Bajaj is elated. He says, “We’re overwhelmed with the positive response to the songs, particularly ‘Chaar Shanivaar’ and ‘Nachan Farrate’ that have become popular amongst the youth.”

Apex you have forgotten bol bachchan, it has done over 100 crores, in that movie abhishek bachchan was one of the reason for it’s success. We will not give any credit for dhoom 3, but in happy new year he has played his part quite well. I am confident that in coming days all Will be well for him.

I actually don’t want abhishreks solo career to formally end here
(Btw comparisons to hrithik are laughable and atleast on box office they are on different planets…)

On some occasions, due to severe and ‘consistent’ underperformance …
    FAREWELL CAN BE ENFORCED …

Michael Clarke lifted a world cup few months ago
After getting ‘raped’ by England, Clarke has literally been stripped of not only captaincy but also forced to retire

Although abhishrek has never lifted the cup like Clarke

Hope abhishreks dwindling solo career doesn’t meet the same end..
    Of an ENFORCED farewell…

    • If comparisons are so laughable one would think it would be all the more possible for Hrithik to have several 200 crore grossers by now. He doesn’t even have 1 yet. With all due respect to Roshan Sr! But then my apologies. According to you D3 is a Hrithik achievement.

      • I do not foresee Hrithik achieving 200 crores as Apex himself has admitted Hrithik’s next Mohenjodaro would be competing with Talaash box office collection! So until 2017, this “Earth Shattering news” will remain unfulfilled. God forbid if Papa Roshan decides to takes charge of box office no., then even 500 crores is very feasible and who knows Hrithik might challenge the “AVATAR” gross!!

Actually Tamil is horrible too (I have had to drastically cut down on Tamil film viewing ever since moving to India — much easier to get subtitled DVDs abroad!!!) whereas Telugu and Malayalam are the best on this front…

When I give a flop film, people stop taking my calls: Abhishek reveals a shocking truth
    August 18, 2015 Bolly-Freak 1858 reads 8 comments

Abhishek Bachchan has not experienced glaring success in Bollywood. The star who has often basked in the glory of his superstar dad Amitabh Bachchan mentioned in a candid interview that regardless of being the son of a superstar, people do not take your calls if your film flops. Abhishek revealed the bitter truth of Bollywood in an interview with Hindustan Times.
He said, “If we give a flop film, people stop taking our calls… then it does not matter whose kid you are. It’s true that people put a lot of money to make a film. But no actor goes there wanting to make an unsuccessful film. We make it with complete conviction and when we are told this is not good enough, it crushes us.”
He added, “It (Flops) is the worst feeling on earth and it destroys you as a human being. It takes a person of immense strength to wake up the next morning and face the world. If a film doesn’t do well, you have done something wrong. So if that happens, you take it on chin and weather the storm. As an actor when you are asked about it (why a film flopped), it is uncomfortable. You don’t enjoy it. So actors come up with really flowery language and great ways to avoid going into that space. The reason we make up excuses is because we don’t want to confront the truth. But if a film doesn’t do well then we are living the truth.”
Abhishek is looking forward to his release ‘All is Well’ opposite Asin this weekend. We wish junior Bachchan all the best for this one!

  67. “After OMG, I didn’t want to make another film on God” – Umesh Shukla on directing All Is Well
    By Joginder Tuteja, Aug 19, 2015 – 10:30 IST

The wait is over for Umesh Shukla. Three years after delivering a super hit OMG – Oh My God! (2012), the filmmaker now returns with All Is Well. Instead of getting trapped into the genre of religion and satire, he has moved on to make a light hearted family drama instead with Abhishek Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor. With a road trip forming a good part of his film’s narrative, there are many smiles promised too as well as the emotions. As they say, it is the journey that matters, and not really the destination. Same is the driving factor for All Is Well too which has Asin and Supriya Pathak as the women on the ride.

All Is Well is quite a shift from OMG – Oh My God, isn’t it?
Yes, it is a light hearted family drama on family values. I think today the generation gap is quite apparent. Earlier joint families comprised of chacha-chachi, cousins and all who stayed together. Today, even if parents and children stay together then it is termed as a joint family. Sometimes kids get a complex because of fight between the parents. Then this complex ends up hitting their love life. It is these and many more layers that are explored in All Is Well, though the treatment is in a lighter vein. We didn’t want the film to be preachy because then it would have looked odd and not reached a wider audience.

So what’s the core conflict in the film? The loan which Rishi Kapoor has taken?
The conflict is much more than that as the loan factor is just a vehicle. Like for example ‘suing God’ was just a vehicle in OMG. People talk about comparisons with Piku but then All Is Well is not about a journey. Instead, what happens in a journey is much more important. There is no comparison at all.

Was Abhishek the first choice for this journey?
Abhishek can carry a poised moment very well. Also, he is a very good comic actor, as we saw in Dostana and Bol Bachchan. When you write a script then you think about who all the actors who can fit in. When you look at Abhishek, you see an actor who is complete. In order to deliver an emotional scene, ek actor mein thoda thehrav chahiye hota hai. Your eyes need to say a lot, something that Abhishek does very well. He is superb. Right from the beginning of the film, he was in a mode.

    How about Asin?
I had seen her films like Ghajini and Ready, and found that she performs really well. She has worked so hard to reach this point. She has broken the language barrier. She can do comedy as well as drama. The character that she plays in the film is also very interesting. Her character believes in the book The Secret. She believes that what you want happens indeed. Her romantic track with Abhishek is very unusual.

Since the film is about a father and his son, didn’t you think of bringing in Amitabh Bachchan for the part?
Bachchan saab has a larger than life image. When you see him, there is no issue around ability. However, for every film, a particular set up has to be made. For All Is Well, Chintuji (Rishi Kapoor) is 100% correct. Just like for 102 Not Out, there is no one else but Mr. Bachchan for the part.

That said, after OMG – Oh My God! , quite a few producers must have come to you to either make its sequel or pick on another film on religion, right?
Yes filmmakers came to me. However, I didn’t want to get into a slot. Even when I have done theater, I have explored all genres. I didn’t want to make another film on God. Even for Part 2, I would make it only if I get a good subject. It won’t be to make something quick and encash on it. Look at Munnabhai series. They took 3 years for the sequel and then came up with another better film. If I were to make a sequel to OMG, it would have to be good with a message in there that is also entertaining.

So is there any possibility around the film?
There is germ of an idea for the sequel but there is time for that. Whenever I do it though, it would be with Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal.

Two weeks back ‘All is well ‘ looks more promising and now this movie is low on buzz.Promoting movie one week before release is very important, but producers started promotions too early and now they don’t know what to do. Abhishek is very good actor compared to many actors and he should choose complete masala or action movies for commercial success. These kind of light hear ted comedy movies wont help him . Boxofficeindia.com, koimoi etc eagerly waiting to kill this movie and lets hops this works for Abhishek

I think the first day collection has to be in the double digits at the very least. I know this may seem like a minor thing but Abhishek’s solo films have struggled to achieve even this. after that if the movie is good then WOM spreads and it should carry…but the ceiling for this kind of film is probably really low to begin with. 70-80cr would be a good total.

      • Double digit ?? This year even Akshay, Ajay, Ranbeer struggled to get double digit opening .. All is well don’t have buzzz and not even promoted well .. and Abhishek star power is almost nill .. so even if gets to 5 Crore day one and with WOM go past 50-60 would be good result.

        • Yakuza yaar this is too much — surely the bar has to be higher than 50-60 crores!

          Like

        • PS — I am not comparing to the industry’s biggest stars, but I do not agree that his star power is “almost nil”, Abhishek does have his own following. The problem is more that Abhishek’s fans (of whom I am one) are a demoralized lot: the last thing we want to see is a “hit” or a “big film” like Dhoom 3 or Happy New Year; he should have a clear “red line” and not do such supporting roles (it’s not about multi-starrers versus solo films, it’s about what the role is. Thus, symbolically, the role in HNY is “one among four” backing SRK up, whereas in Bol Bachchan he has the title role in a two hero-film: the latter is a good choice, but surely not the former.)) Abhishek needs to think strategically about his career (even a flop can be better than a so-called hit that symbolically relegates you to second-tier status, as even John Abraham and Saif seem to appreciate).

        • I think the movie has been promoted very very well. You surf any channel you see a song of the movie playing. Infact it must be the most promoted movie currently. Buzz is a different thing altogether but cannot fault T series for the promotion. Considering the promotions, 50 cr is not a good result for the movie. They are obviously targeting higher here.
An opening of 5 to 6 crores should be achievable easily though.

The actors were on Indian Idol Junior sets to promote their film ‘All is Well’, and RIshi Kapoor took the stage to sing a few lines. He sang, ‘Main Shayar to Nahi’ from his film ‘Bobby’. Abhishel Bachchan also join Rishi Kapoor and sang a few lines with him.
And singer Lata Mangeshkar caught the episode and she was mesmerised by Rishi Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan’s singing ability so much that she took to twitter to praise the actors. She wrote, “Namaskar. Ek do din pehele maine Indian idol junior ka episode dekha jis mein Rishi Kapoor ji aur Abhishek Bachchan ji aaye the, dono har bacche ke gaane ka anand le rahe the.Jab Rishi ji ko gaana gane bulaaya gaya aur unhone Main shayar to nahi ye gaana shuru kiya wo sunke main hairan reh gayi,wo itna sur mein gaate hai ye mujhe pata nahi tha, uske baad Abhishek ji ne gaaya aur wo bhi sur mein gaa rahe the, main unka abhinandan karti hun.” (Greetings. A few days ago I happened to watch the Indian Idol Junior and saw Rishi Kapoor ji and Abhishek Bachchan ji have come. Both of them were enjoying the songs sung by the children. Then when Rishi Kapoor ji was called on stage and he started to sing ‘Main Shayar To Nahi’, I was so amazed to see him sing in tune and even Abhishek sang perfectly. I want to congratulate them.)
Reading this heartwarming note, Rishi Kapoor too expressed his happiness and replied, “Thank you Lataji. This couldn’t get better. So flattered and honoured. Charan Sparsh!”

  70. Notice how folks are claiming that AIW is an over-hyped movie. So basically, the stage is set – the ground is PERFECTLY clear; Brothers is flopping, BB is at the fag end, Bahubali is no longer a threat to ‘North’ Indian movies. A classic case of over-bloating the goat before being slaughtered. So Abhishek’s movie SHOULD get as much money or at least as much as Akshay’s movies – to hell with the terrain and genre of the movie..so raise the bar to at least 100 or above 100 crores..else ABHISHEK was and will be doomed for sure [acid test, litmus test, yada yada]. Now that’s fine, expecting 100 crores from AIW is ok.. but what is missing is the CAVEAT..all those with relatively less-commercial subjects that made it to close to 100 like OMG, PIKU had a non-universal subject; BUT a very good treatment. So the point is, if you are making a non-universal film, you HAVE to make sure that it has a good treatment. A commercial film with an average treatment is always a safer bet than a non-universal film with better treatment [ it HAS to have a sold treatment]

I am not in India and am not aware of how the AIW TV spots are being bombarded on Indian TV. I know that practically every idiotic serial out there makes a special episode for promotion of a movie. That’s the norm out there. The question is, is it more than the normal or is it on par with what is supposed to be a normal?

Out here with just internet as my source, I find it pretty ordinary advertising.

So when the likes of Hrithik go all out and indulge in silly, childish, BANG BANG bare-dare or some such shite for a COMPLETELY COMMERCIAL film with just LOOKS, and the equally childish response to that by the likes in Hi-fi is received, it is the ‘goodwill’ and faith that Hrithik enjoys, but when Abhishek even indulges in TV SPOTS, it is more than the required hype!

[To top it, he just made matters worse by JUSTIFIABLY poking fun at the obsession with 6 vada-pavs in each and every film IRRESPECTIVE of the character..]

One has to give it to Abhishek at not losing his composure — he is indeed fighting a losing battle.. whether you deliver a flop or a hit.

    • Honestly, its not about 80 crores or 100 crores.. but the perception of a ‘hit’ film is enough for Abhishek’s career. Good reviews, good audience feedback even with lesser collecton gives the vibe of a successful movie(something like Badlapur did at 50crs). That should be enough for Abhishek to set rolling…
