120 Responses to “Calendar Girls, the rest of the box office”
Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon opened well at the box office getting occupancies of 30-35% on average which is a lot better than most films this year, even better than some big films. It is an holiday for Bakri Eid which has benefited the film but even if you take out that factor its still a reasonable opening. The release has been kept to 5-7 shows at most major multiplexes which is good as a film like this does not require 10-12 screenings a day.
The opening is good across all multiplexes be it metro like Delhi, a major A centre like Jaipur or a smaller A centre like Raipur. The film did have a television look to it but Kapil Sharma seems to have a decent following and now it will depend on the content of film and can it score from this start.
Calendar Girls was well behind Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon in the morning shows. It has a similar multiplex screenings as Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon though less appeal than that film but still should get some holiday benefit. The other release Bhaag Johnny is a dud and hardly got practically no benefit of the holiday. Time Out was even worse than Bhaag Johny.
Welcome Back dropped in third week as it grossed around 3.50 crore nett taking its business to 95.50 crore nett apprx. The drop in week three was a huge 80% plus which left with no chance of reaching 100 crore nett. The best business comparatively has come in Bihar where it will beat bigger all India grossers like Tanu Weds Manu Returns and ABCD 2.
Hero had a huge crash in week two grossing around 2.50 crore nett and taking its business to 31.75 crore nett in two weeks. The drop week on week is over 90%. the lifetime business of the film will be around 32 crore nett
Welcome Back will gross around 97 crore nett which will put it with Singham (2011) and Ek Villain (2011) as these films also missed 100 crore nett by a very short margin. The distributor share of Welcome Back will be around 49 crore.

#KisKiskoPyaarKaroon released in 1500 screens only. If it was released in 2500 screens then many records could have been broken today.
“I think that we are in a weird place in the world when the following things are considered political. Five things, I’m going to tick them off. These are the five things that were on [the pope] and our president’s agenda. Caring for the marginalized and the poor. That’s now political. Advancing economic opportunity for all. Political? Serving as good stewards of the environment. Protecting religious minorities and promoting religious freedom globally. Welcoming [and] integrating immigrants and refugees globally. And that’s political?
I mean, I don’t know what we expect to hear from an organization’s leader like the pope of the Catholic Church other than protect those who need help, bring in refugees who have no place because of war and violence and terrorism. These seem like universal truths that we should be good to others who have less than we do, that we should give shelter to those who don’t have it. I think these were the teachings in the Bible of Jesus. They’re the words of the pope, they’re the feelings of the president. And people who find themselves on the other side of that message should consult a mirror, it seems like. Because I think that’s what we’re supposed to do as a people, whatever your religion.
But in a world in which the parties are becoming increasingly partisan and just about everything — from Cecil the lion to Oscar nominations — is politicized, a lot of people are having a hard time viewing the pope’s comments as anything but political. So we now live in a world where even helping the poor is considered unforgivably political.”
Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra makes rare leap to American TV
She’s an award-winning actress, a former Miss World, a singer and a dancer. She serves as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador and as a United Nations Girl Up Champion, and she is involved in efforts to promote the education of girls in India.
She’s a social media queen, with more than 10 million followers on Twitter.
Priyanka Chopra has international cachet and a global fan base. But her star power has been relatively lackluster in the United States.
That may be about to change. Chopra is the star of “Quantico,” a drama premiering September 27 on ABC. In recent weeks, her face has been splashed across billboards and buses from Los Angeles to Toronto to New York.
LOL, Hilarious.
Aside- just read his SRKDON review- what a gem !!
When Don walks into his cavernous safe, you see on the walls Balinese dance masks and Bushido blades and a copy of Edvard Munch’s Scream (or maybe it’s the original; hey, maybe it was Don who stole it a couple of years ago). This fussy exotica is meant to make you contrast the world of this Don with that of the paan-chewing, Chacha Chaudhary-spouting simpleton. And you can’t help thinking that all that the older Don needed to achieve the same contrast was Amitabh Bachchan.
But in the earlier Don, when this chhora Ganga kinarewala rediscovered the simple pleasures of paan from his region after days of lounging around in a city slicker’s loafers, the moment carried an electric charge. It was as if he’d come home, as if he’d returned to his roots, even if only for the duration of a rousing song. When the same number plays in the new Don, it’s just… a rousing song.
also – the following comment left by a member there is superb-
MANK-
The reason why the original Don is so effective is because we get the bad guy only for a limited time. That makes him mysterious and interesting and sets up the rest of the film. The contrast between him and the simpleton, rustic good guy, that was the film. The moment you set the whole film around him, it just becomes another underworld thriller. As you can see, by Don2, the character has become a laughable caricature.
I can’t see Satyam’s post with the video – its Blocked at my work place. So, I have no idea what its about. But when Vijay mentions – it looks cool and looks like another game show… it was obvious.
I googled – “Amitabh bachchan new TV show” and I found the article. 🙂
“According to sources in the film trade, when it became clear that both movies had been scheduled to open the same weekend, the actress reportedly called up the superstar “whom she has worked closely with from the start of her career” and requested him to consider shifting his film’s release date. “It’s my biggest release, na…” she apparently cooed to the actor, who is believed to have smartly retorted that he’d happily oblige if she was willing to make the same request to him on Twitter or in the press: “Just say We’re scared to come on the same day, so please shift your release,’ and I will.”
you’re the target audience for it.. Bhandarkar claims he’s spearheading female-centric cinema in Bollywood. He thinks he’s some kind of feminist. That’s the brand of feminism you’d subscribe to.
In this interview with Rajeev Masand, Akshay Kumar explains why he makes more movies per year than his contemporaries, how greed got the better of him for a considerable period during his 25 year acting career, and why he admires his wife Twinkle Khanna for giving up her career as an actress
Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon is looking set for a good first day collection of around 7.50 crore nett. The film has been aided by a holiday for Bakri Eid but even taking that factor out which has probably added around 30-35% on the collections, its still a good start on real value.
The opening in terms of morning occupancies can be placed in a similar range to films like Brothers and Tanu Weds Manu Returns. The only films that actually opened better than Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon this year are Bajrangi Bhaijaan, ABCD 2 and Welcome Back in terms of early show occupancies.
The film has done very well in North and Central India and Gujarat also scoring but the business on Saturday is crucial as it will come to its actual level without holiday backing. a similar number would be very good and even a drop of 15-20% will do but a larger drop will be a matter of concern.
Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon Holds Strong Emerges HIT
Saturday 26 September 2015 23.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon held firm on Saturday and has emerged a HIT film. The colllections on Saturday will be around 7.50 crore nett which is fantastic. It was a holiday on Friday but the film is showing a very minor drop. In real terms this is growth of 25% from a good start.
The minor drop is mainly in areas which were very strong on Friday like East Punjab, Rajasthan and CI. The areas which were less like Maharashtra, Nizam and Mysore are similar to the first day. the total in two days will be close to 15.50 crore nett and the film has chances of a 25 crore nett weekend which is a big total for this film.
The business on the weekdays will tell how big of a hit the film is going to become, the only negative is the competition from a biggie like Singh Is Bling next week which is going to appeal heavily to the same markets where Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon is so stron

Nothing else needs to be done …
Really identify with how in this era of paparazzi overload and social media w
Aditya can never be reached

Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon had a very strong second day. The business if the film dropped 15% in places like Rajasthan, CI and Bihar but circuits like Delhi / UP and East Punjab managed to up a little despite day one being a holiday. The first two days business of Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon are as follows.
Friday – 8,00,00,000
Saturday – 7,50,00,000
TOTAL – 15,50,00,000
Calendar Girls is a poor fare as collections dropped 20% on day two. The first two day collections are as follows.
Can’t believe kkkpk is getting such numbers!! Thought it will be a sure shot wash out movie.. Congratulations to director duo n kapil…We seriously can not judge or predict todays movie goers taste…
Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon has a very good weekend with business of around 24.25 crore nett. The first day opened strong with 8 crore nett but it was day which made the film a sure shot hit as it grossed 7.50 crore nett which was fantastic coming off an holiday. The business on Sunday was a solid 8.75 crore nett.
The film is excellent in East Punjab with business of 3.80 crore nett. Other territories which have done very good business are Delhi / UP with 6 crore nett, Rajasthan with 1.66 crore nett, CI with 1.15 crore nett and Gujarat / Saurashtra with 3 crore nett. The collections in Nizam / Andhra, West Bengal and Mysore were weak. All three were below 1 crore nett for the weekend.
The film has already done the job as its a 20 crore film and has already notched up a 12.75-13 crore distributor share in just three days but its still important to hold on Monday so that goes on to become a big hit. If collections can show a 50% apprx drop from Friday it would be a strong trend. Normally you want to be 40% down but here it was a holiday on Friday so close to 50% will do. The film has also done well Overseas especially Gulf where opening weekend may get into top five of the year.
Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon has held up very well on Monday with business of around 4.50 crore nett. The drop from day one is 45% which is excellent considering day one was a holiday so in real terms the drop is much less. The best hold is in the North especially East Punjab and Delhi NCR.
The total business of the film so far is 28.75 crore nett and the first week should go to around 40 crore nett which is a huge total for the film. The way North is going it won’t be a surprise if the film crosses the lifetime business of bigger films like Baby and Piku.
The overall lifetime business of the film is dependent on how the second Friday and Saturday go as Singh Is Bling will release on Friday so collections will drop but it’s a big holiday which will cushion that drop a little. Saturday will be back to normal..
Calendar Girls was poor on Monday with low collectiins. The drop is also almost 60% from Friday. The first four days of the first week for Calendar Girls are as follows.
Friday – 1,50,00,000
Saturday – 1,25,00,000
Sunday – 1,35,00,000
Monday – 65,00,000
TOTAL – 4,75,00,000
The first week 6.25 crore nett and lifetime will close at 7 crore nett max.
Singer Asha Bhosle’s eldest son Hemant, 66, passed away on Monday after a long battle with cancer. He was in Scotland in his final days.
Hemant was a music director of considerable talent, having composed songs like ‘Jage jage nainon mein’ for Damaad, Marathi bhavgeet ‘Shaarad sundar’ and ‘Yeu kashi priya’, all of which his mother sang. ‘Shraddhanjali’ and ‘Nazrana Pyar Ka’ became popular too. Ashaji is believed to be flying to Scotland at the earliest. This is her second loss in three years, her daughter Varsha had committed suicide in 2012.
By coincidence, Monday was her sister Lata Mangeshkar’s 86th birthday.
And one more who scummbed to cancer very recently.
Mr Bhandari has featured in several serials such as Saat Phere, Khaandaan on Karz, Parampara, Jeevan Mrityu, Pathjhad, Gumraah and Mile Sur Mera Tumhara.
He has also featured in the 2005 film Mangal Pandey-The Rising, which also featured Aamir Khan and Rani Mukerji.
Sad news. Poor, Asha! To outlive one’s child is probably the greatest tragedy for a parent and to have that happen to you twice…can’t imagine her grief.
feeling really happy for kapil as there was such goodwill that people where ready to come to theater for his movie whatever the quality is as this is the guy who has made them continuously laugh in during stress and tension
industry is eager to milk him as evident from this abbas mastan movie and earlier this year him as host of filmfare replacing the like of srk, saif and ranbir
really what a rise from being a second grade performer in a challenge show to this level all on merit
“really what a rise from being a second grade performer in a challenge show to this level all on merit”
2nd grade performer?? He was consecutive 6 seasons winner on Comedy Circus and he was class apart from the rest. That’s the reason he went ahead and started his own show as none of the others were in his competition anymore. He was already popular even from the 1st day of Comedy Nights with Kapil and that show put him completely on the map by becoming the Number 1 show in India in TV ratings.
The journey of Kapil, an Amritsar boy, started when he won The Great Indian Laughter Challenge season 3. Incidentally, he was initially rejected at the audition level. After emerging as the winner of several seasons of Comedy Circus, Kapil finally started his own show produced by his banner, K9 Productions. It was a calculated risk and a collaborative effort that paid off for Kapil and Colors, the channel airing the show.
Firstly don’t think that’s true. Also, it could have been bad day and the 1st round auditions are done at local level and given 1 min to perform something. He might have been tensed and performed badly and was rejected at ground level during Season 1 or 2. When he got selected in Season 3, he directly went to win the finale.
master he was initially rejected which is a bigger acheivment and the format for his show later (comedy night with kapil) draws parallel with kumars at number 42 ( the indian theme) , though kapil outclassed it with wit
Lol.. man for you its either extreme reactions. I’m already big supporter of Kapil and always wanted his movie to do well. But you take it an extreme level and even bringing everyone from Umer Shareef to actors and Kumars @ 42 and then saying Kapil outclassed all of them. I’m not that extreme and it isn’t true.
Superstar Salman Khan on Tuesday literally teased his fans with an initial poster of his forthcoming collaboration with Sooraj Barjatya, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. And the trailer will be out tomorrow i.e. 1st October. If that wasn’t enough, here’s another interesting news for all you Salman Khan fans out there!
Fox Star Studios have come up with a bigger plan for the film. Sources reveal that PRDP will be dubbed in Tamil & Telugu version and will release on Diwali along with the Hindi version.

Ranbir Kapoor Will Start Shooting Sanjay Dutt Biopic with Raju Hirani in 2016!
Maverick filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani is getting ready to shoot the much talked about Sanjay Dutt biopic. And at a media interaction recently Mr Hirani said, “The script for the Sanjay Dutt biopic is almost complete and we will start shooting the film with Ranbir in 2016.”
When asked whether his film would help Ranbir get out of the current low in his career, he said: “I don’t think Ranbir needs anyone. He is a fantastic actor and we don’t need to worry about him.” (Also Read: Ranbir Kapoor: Bombay Velvet Wasn’t Enticing Enough)
Apart from his plans for Ranbir, he also spoke about the next Munna Bhai film.
“We are also working on the next installment of Munna Bhai. We’ll be able to decide on it a little closer to its completion,” he added.
Glad for Abbas Mustan. They started around 25 years back and most of their contemporaries have practically disappeared but they are still going strong.

Some troubling news for Hrithik fans and a case study for wife swapping gone wrong !
Arjun-Sussanne Affair Out In The Open!
“Rumours of Arjun Rampal and Sussanne Khan dating each other have been the fodder for gossip in hallways and corridors of Bollywood.
Last night, 9xe seems to have put an end to all the speculations.
The two were spotted enjoying a quiet evening at a coffee shop in Juhu, Mumbai (it’s quite interesting to note that the two chose to venture out in a joint that is frequented by one and all. Maybe the two are taking baby steps towards making their relationship public)”
Don’t think it’s either sad or troubling for anybody concerned (except the kids!)
Yeah I think it perhaps began with ‘experimentation’ , even a foursome, but drugs mess up the mind (& body)
Btw, Mehr Jessia was much hotter than Susanne, so a 3or4some should wasn’t a bad idea.. 🙂
Yeah the quality isn’t there but it isn’t Priyanka’s fault. Also, this isn’t projected some B-grade stuff, it is as good or bad as any other ABC TV series and promoted hugely. Usually no one cares on ABC Tv series and when an Indian does.. all become critics and starts calling it B-grade coz(not referring to Satyam only) they haven’t been seeing other series for comparison. Its the same league what runs on TV and for once Indian is in the lead role; that’s the high point for the series now.
I’d disagree quite a bit.. many ABC shows might be at this level but not all (Scandal, though it became a total soap after season 1 which is more or less when I stopped watching it, still ‘looks’ way better than this). In any case I wasn’t just referring to ABC but TV programming in general which is way superior than this on any number of shows in any number of genres. But even at this junk entertainment level check out NBC’s Blindspot trailers. I’d check out this Memento-like deal if I had to choose! Finally it’s not about attacking a show because an Indian’s in it! If you asked me about the other just begun ABC show, Blood and Oil, I’d say that looks terrible too! And even if all ABC shows are at this level I’d be happy to criticize all of them equally. There’s so much extraordinary stuff happening on TV, and not just on the premium channels, that there’s really little need to settle for this kind of stuff. At least as far as I’m concerned. If you want me to add to the chorus of ‘more power to Priyanka’ sure, I’ll do so. I’m certainly not suggesting this isn’t an important break for her. And it might well be a more intelligent guilty pleasure if the piece I’ve referenced is to be believed. All I’m saying is I’m still not sold on it as a personal choice. And I’d just repeat since you make the point about TV more generally at the end there a massive gulf between this and some of the best examples in this genre (or other genres) elsewhere.
“ABC’s ‘Quantico’ Is A Breakthrough for South Asians on TV”- I was just agreeing to this statement that its a breakthrough for South Asians doing a lead role on American TV. Quality or not is the secondary at this point.
Also it has got some better reviews than expected but the its not a high quality TV series, which I agree anyways. It’s just one of the routine TV series on TV.
ABC did no favors to the show as it put it on a Sunday at 10pm going against second half of Sunday Night Football. The ratings for premiere are OK but after all the hype and marketing…7 million viewers is not that strong.
Calendar Girls was poor on Monday with low collectiins. The drop is also almost 60% from Friday. The first four days of the first week for Calendar Girls are as follows.
Friday – 1,50,00,000
Saturday – 1,25,00,000
Sunday – 1,35,00,000
Monday – 65,00,000
TOTAL – 4,75,00,000
The first week 6.25 crore nett and lifetime will close at 7 crore nett max.
“Quantico sneaked on to the “good” list because it was ABC’s biggest show of the night and improved greatly on its Blood & Oil lead-in (6.3/1.4), something that usually doesn’t happen, especially in that difficult time slot. That means the sexy Priyanka Chopra marketing worked and viewers are actively seeking this show out. I have a feeling this could be a sneaky hit for ABC and help fix its Sunday night desert.”
he was rejected during the initial audition for same show for which he became the winner 6 time and enact the same role in big screen on model of akshay(garam masala) and govinda
“yes he was rejected during the initial audition for same show for which he became the winner 6 time and enact the same role in big screen on model of akshay(garam masala) and govinda”
Again incorrect info. He lost in TV show but it was for singing competition. The 1st time he participated in comedy show was in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge and he became the winner in 2007. Then later on all that comedy artists moved to Comedy Circus and then its history.
try to stay on one leg before you accuse others of anything just because you don’t know things
i bring them because its a fact may be you don’t know as there are shows which outclasses the original and umar was known in 80’s more for his show bakra qistoon par ….indians rever him and invited him and is notorious for calling amitabh and dharmendra haramzada in live shows in front of them so this venom is not new
Akshay Kumar has a reason to rejoice. His film Singh Is Bliing has been cleared by the censor board with a ‘U/A’ certificate… but with some crucial cuts! Those scenes that had earlier offended Sikh cultural organizations have now been duly censored.
Says a source close to the project, “The censor board was very clear on the issue of cultural policing. Only if the objectionable scenes were seen to disobey the censor guidelines would those scenes be censored. There were two such scenes which Sikh organizations objected to and which the censor board has decided to delete from the film. One of them has Akshay Kumar using his holy kadaa (iron bangle) like a weapon and the other scene shows Akshay Kumar’s turban catching fire. These two scenes have been censored. The rest of the film had no objectionable scenes at all.”
However the ‘U/A’ censor certification is a bit of a setback since Singh Is Bliing was purposely aimed at Akshay Kumar’s younger audiences.
Adds Prabhu Dheva, “We’ve aimed the story at kids. The ‘U/A’ certificate doesn’t mean children are less important to the film. It just means they’ve to come with their parents. Once they do Akshay and I promise them a grand time,” promises Prabhu Dheva, adding that this was the most original film he has made.
1D’s Harry Styles ‘is happiest celebrity on Twitter’
The singer came out on top when scientists analysed the emotions expressed in the social media output of the 100 people with the most Twitter followers.
The team from analytic firm Adoreboard examined social media messages stretching back eight months, using special software to detect and interpret emotions in the text.
The study found that Styles’ mood certainly hasn’t dipped as a consequence of 1D’s forthcoming parting of the ways next March.
Styles, 21, claimed top spot ahead of singer-songwriter Adele and the Indian film actor Aamir Khan.
The Top 20 were:
1 – Harry Styles, singer.
2 – Adele, singer.
3 – Aamir Khan, Indian film actor.
4 – Ariana Grande, American singer and actress.
6 – Amitabh Bachchan, Indian film actor.
7 – Cristiano Ronaldo, footballer.
8 – Jimmy Fallon, American comedian.
9 – Shakira, singer and songwriter
10 – Emma Watson, actress.
11 – Oprah Winfrey, talk show host.
12 – Justin Beiber, singer and songwriter.
13 – Dalai Lama, spiritual leader.
14 – Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India.
15 – Wayne Rooney, footballer.
16 – Ellen DeGeneres, American comedian and TV host.
17 – Jennifer Lopez, singer.
18 – Simon Cowell, TV talent judge and music producer.
Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon First Tuesday Business

Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon had its first noticeable drop on Tuesday as collections dropped around 17% from the previous day. The first five days business of Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon are as follows.
The first week business will be around 38.5-39 crore nett and then it has to be seen how much does the release of Singh Is Bling affect its collections
Will Singh Is Bling Be The Biggest Akshay Kumar Opener Or Disappoint Like His Other Releases And Can It Do A Really Big One Like 20 Or 25 Crore?
Wednesday 30 September 2015 12.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Q. Will Singh Is Bling be the biggest Akshay Kumar opener or disappoint like his other releases and can it do a really big one like 20 or 25 crore?
Ans. It will be his biggest opener as its a big holiday and the film will open very big in Punjab and Delhi. As far as disappointment goes, Gabbar Is Back was decent but as Brothers was very bad and Baby not good, they are all lumped together. As far as a big number goes, if it opens like Punjab and Delhi all over its going above 25 crore nett but that is very unlikely as when the single screen advance opened on Monday, it was outstanding in Delhi as cinemas like Liberty, Delite, Golcha etc were almost house full by the end of the day but Mumbai was much slower. Around 20 crore is possibility but will depend on how Mumbai circuit fares as for a big number you need both North and Mumbai to collect.
R. Sodhi
Q. A few years ago Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan were seen as the next big stars but now a Kapil Sharma film has opened at 8 crore nett while Ranbir and Imran are at 5 crore. Is Kapil Sharma a threat to them and likes of Ranveer Singh, Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor and Siddharth Malhotra?
Ans. You can’t put Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan in the same bracket. Ranbir Kapoor has made some weird and not so audience friendly films lately but with the correct film it can be a Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Raajneeti or Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani again. The talent is there so you will get chances. Imran Khan is opposite with limited talent and no box office numbers. So here you can’t put Kapil Sharma with Ranbir Kapoor but definitely he is way above Imran Khan. Out of the rest Varun Dhawan is close to establishing himself like Ranbir Kapoor. As for threat it won’t really there as none of these stars do the comedy genre which will be the genre that the audience will want to see with Kapil Sharma
M. Shukla
Q. Which is the biggest hit of Sunil Shetty in whole career?
Ans. Border is the bigest by a distance. As solo hero it will be Gopi Kishen (1994) or Bhai (1997)
Mahesh Patel
Q. Is Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon the biggest hit ever for Abbas Mustan?
Ans. No Baazigar and Soldier are their biggest hits. Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon will probably go next on the list.
S. Mahmood
It’s absolutely laughable on the way BOI is reporting differently in Baby- the movie which is in year’s one of the favourite movie list if not the most favourite, for most of us. The movie is a hit has been confirmed by all other sources incl Akshay Kumar.
Gabbar again is a Hit movie.
The main reason for their success is their lower distribution cost compared to movies of similar gross.
However most importantly it is the wholesome appreciation that both Gabbar and Baby got.
Moreover lot of folks who saw Brothers spoke highly about Akshay Kumar… Which very few actor has got this year.
I do think that for Baby especially, BOI were a tad negative. Nothing wrong in there but it also translated into the reporting of collections. BOI have it at around 81cr lifetime while Taran and Koimoi and others have it at 96cr. It’s a massive difference.
It was a bit the same case for Drishyam where there seems to be a difference of around 9-10cr between most sources and BOI. BOI were negative in their rhetoric throughout despite the quite decent trending and their total is quite low compared to all sources.
However, for a couple of movies (I would take Phantom as an e.g. here) BOI were quite positive from the very beginning, their first numbers were even higher than Taran’s and when the collections nose-dived after a few days, they simply opted to stop reporting.
Instead they opted to have a final dig at Abhishek by stressing again on how poorly AIW is doing by claiming that Manjhi is doing better than the latter in its 4th week or so! They would never let the opportunity to kick Abhishek pass by them.
Thanks for bringing the case of Drishyam, another fantastic movie and case of low reporting, though not to the extent of what BOI did with Baby.
Impact to AIW was hardly there. BOI narrative does not matter here as noone speaks about it. Such arguments happens only for movies which were really good, did well but were underreported.
Abhishek is overhyped in this forum. Thankfully BOI doesnt have comments or blog section to call this forum biased towards Abhishek.
Gulzar and Bhardwaj go about methodically developing the police procedural without making any judgments or actually solving the murders. Solving the crime is beyond their expertise and in any case, that is not the purpose of the film.
It has been eight years since Gulzar made her last film — one of the segments in Dus Kahaniyaan. She was perhaps busy with personal life, but that break has made her into a damn good director. Working with superb lead actors and an excellent supporting cast — many who get the chance to shine, Gulzar has created a remarkable ensemble piece of drama.
A lot of fingers point towards Shruti’s parents — Ramesh (Neeraj Kabi) and Nupur (Konkana Sensharma). Kabi and Sensharma are both seasoned actors. Here, they balance the acts of playing the wrongly accused as well as grieving parents. It is tough task for them, more so because many in the audience will visit the film with their own baggage and the belief that they know the identity of the killers.
Watching Kabi and Sensharma one cannot conclusively say that Shruti (or Aarushi)’s parents could be guilty.
Talvar’s central core is Irrfan Khan’s performance where he plays one of the most complex and nuanced roles of his career. There are many shades to Khan’s CBI Inspector Ashwin Kumar that it is so rewarding to watch this gem of an actor display his skills. And by the look of it, Khan seems to have really enjoyed playing Kumar.
Rahasya was Filmy (there is some fiction) and even I liked it a lot.
I think this will be more darker. And there difference could be that Rahasya showed Talwars as guilty. Here I think the movie is taking Talwars side or noncomital.
It is Rashomon kind of movie. They show 3 sides of story from different perspectives and let the audience believe any of them. Nothing more. Its like 3 short stories in 1 film and possibly only one is correct. That they haven’t disclosed and left to audience’s imagination.
Top Opening Weekend Worldwide Grossers 2015 – KKPK Ninth
Thursday 01 October 2015 12.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon is amongst the top ten Worldwide openers of the year. No film with a budget of around 20 crore has ever gone over the 40 crore for a Worldwide opening.. The top opening weekend Worldwide grossers of 2015 are as follows
1. Bajrangi Bhaijaan – 1,87,24,00,000
2. Welcome Back – 90,65,63,000
3. Brothers – 80,90,96,000
4. ABCD 2 – 71,52,35,000
5. Did Dhadakne Do – 67,84,84,500
6. Tanu Weds Manu Returns – 66,55,49,000
7. Gabbar Is Back – 61,84,50,000
8. Piku – 47,25,66,000
9, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon – 42,00,00,000 apprx
10. Roy – 38,43,00,000
The film is probably on target for 90 crore Worldwide gross. To get to a 100 crore it will have to show a 50-55% drop in week two which is difficult considering the competition.
While quite a few of the industry folk are setting up NGO’s to help the affected farmers in India, Salman Khan who is known for his philanthropically work has conceptualized something altogether different. In fact, Salman will be developing a different kind of reality show titled ‘The Farm’.
The said show will be much like the current Bigg Boss featuring celebrities involving themselves in mundane chores around a farm. Commenting on the same at a recently held press conference Salman said, “‘The Farm’ has the same concept as that of ‘Bigg Boss’. Celebrities will be spending close to four months on the farm. Here they will have to do everything by themselves right from milking the cow and goat to farming and sowing”. Further talking about the show Khan adds, “There will be a farmer present who will teach all the techniques of farming to the contestants.”
While the concept for the show is based on a British reality show by the same name that was produced by Strix, Salman is in talks with the CEO of Colours Raj Nayak for the Indian version. The format of the show will put a group of celebrities on a farm where they stay together for a short period of time, where in the contestants have to work like a normal farmer, like doing agriculture and raising animals for example. During their stay on the farm in regular periods, one of the contestants is evicted from the farm by way of a public telephone vote. This process is continued until a final contestant is chosen and then he wins the title of the ‘Top Farmer’.
Singh Is Bling Set For A Good Start
Thursday 01 October 2015 12.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Singh Is Bling is looking at a good opening at the box office The film had a very strong advance in Delhi and Punjab and this sort of advance has never been seen for an Akshay Kumar starrer in any circuit since the days of Singh Is Kinng and Welcome. Singh Is Kinng was a record opener becoming the first film in history to cross 7 crore nett on the first day. Welcome was also a record opener in real terms (comparing the places where it did open) but as it was not released on multiplexes until day two the numbers did not come.
The single screen advance on Monday in Delhi city was fantastic with 60-70% tickets going for Friday on Monday itself. The multiplexes on Wednesday also saw strong sales. The advance is slower in Mumbai but that is sort of expected as its a North film but the holiday should help.
The figures in the Gujarat / Saurashtra belt will be the key for a big first day number. The film may have Northern content but its a comedy genre which score well in this market and films record big numbers in Gujarat / Saurashtra on this holiday so a 2 crore nett total here is a must, preferably 2.50 crore nett plus. There is a cricket match featuring India in the afternoon but hopefully that won’t hit the film much.
I remember Singh is Kingg had 6 am shows in East Punjab, such was the craze and hype then. Amd guess what even the 6 am show was housefull with reports of additional crowd sitting on the floor to watch the movie FDFS.

A nice read in view of the ongoing socialism vs conservatism debate
Fox News’s Shepard Smith has the perfect response to Pope Francis’s conservative critics
http://www.vox.com/2015/9/24/9387833/shep-smith-pope-francis

Interesting blind item. Credits: Rajeev Masand
Blind Item: Fallout between top actor and actress
“According to sources in the film trade, when it became clear that both movies had been scheduled to open the same weekend, the actress reportedly called up the superstar “whom she has worked closely with from the start of her career” and requested him to consider shifting his film’s release date. “It’s my biggest release, na…” she apparently cooed to the actor, who is believed to have smartly retorted that he’d happily oblige if she was willing to make the same request to him on Twitter or in the press: “Just say We’re scared to come on the same day, so please shift your release,’ and I will.”

But you take it an extreme level and even bringing everyone from Umer Shareef to actors and Kumars @ 42 and then saying Kapil outclassed all of them. I’m not that extreme and it isn’t true.

New Fall Show Ratings: The Winners and Losers
“Quantico sneaked on to the “good” list because it was ABC’s biggest show of the night and improved greatly on its Blood & Oil lead-in (6.3/1.4), something that usually doesn’t happen, especially in that difficult time slot. That means the sexy Priyanka Chopra marketing worked and viewers are actively seeking this show out. I have a feeling this could be a sneaky hit for ABC and help fix its Sunday night desert.”
