  1. Salman Rocks and looks good. Typical Barjatya trailer. Its lavish and bright (infact too bright and little loud).
Soham needs to provide herself here as it is her best chamce. Hope she doesnt disappoint. She is the biggest risk cad hence can be the biggest reward as well.
Looking forward to 10-12 songs 😀

  2. Looks like Barjatya has been taking classes with Bhansali! The rumors about the Raja air Runk remake (Prince and the Pauper) seem to be correct. The film looks to be an easy success but Sonam I think is miscast here.

  3. Its a good start and though it seems a bit too bright they cannot give away too much right at the start. I feel there is going to be some solid story here with decent twist/ turns / climax action at the end. As per earlier reports Hollywood stunt director Greg Powell, of the Harry Potter, Fast & Furious and Skyfall fame was brought into choreograph the high-octane action scenes.

  4. What I like is Barjatya has gone about quietly making this grandeur and epic saga without the much hullabaloo of a Bhansali who has been shouting from the rooftop for what he has shot…..

Still prefer BM to this though . This one is colorful like Bhansali films but this doesn’t seem to have the same grand look and yes offcourse should be an easy success dont think anyone have any doubts about that .

  6. Everyone has their own choices , but BM will be heavily entrenched into a historical and SLB is known to be a wayward director who may just doom it to a complete bore fest.

Gowarikar for all the grandeur and cast and filming the movie on a grand scale simply could not connect the characters of Jodha Akbar with the audience and the movie remained very superficial. Then BM has a Ranveer who has a very weak voice and diminutive stature at the moment.

Some of the previous historical which worked in the past had great characters like Sohrab Modi , Prithviraj Kapoor and where is one going to get the depth of a Dilip Kumar (MEA) and Raj Kumar (Pakeezah) who could engage audience with just their dialogue delivery which is a must for a historical.

  8. Salman says it is the “most beautiful film” he has done with director Sooraj Barjatya, with whom he has teamed up with after 16 years.

Salman shared: “PRDP is for everyone with family and wanting to have one. Every family has issues, but people who have family are blessed. This is one of the most beautiful film that Sooraj/Rajshri and me have done together in every aspect. The trailer will convey #PRDPtrailer.”

The actor looks equally good in both avatars in the trailer. His clean shaven look shows his character as an innocent and gullible person while the mustachioed get-up suggests an angry young man’s demeanour.

A family drama, PRDP also stars Sonam Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Neil Nitin Mukesh.

The trailer opens with Salman bowing down in front of his family portrait, and then mentions that he is back. It then showcases a colourful montage of clips from the movie, which seems to be replete with music, grand sets and lavish song-and-dance sequences.

And it’s not all about love and romance, as the trailer also promises a fair share of edgy action, but in a royal way – be it a chandelier falling down in front of Salman, an exciting chariot chase or a swordfight.

  13. Both Salman and Sonam look very good together in the latest poster. Sonam has retained some innocence and that is appealing. Deepika lost that innocent look and looks more and more like a temptress nowadays than a coy heroine.

    Like

    • Agree. Sonam will fit in esp the role is of a princess and she is appropriately decked up for that. It’s the same with Kareena who just worked perfectly well in Bajrangi setting. One of the advantages of a Salman and even a Srk is their ability to develop instant chemistry with their leads and there is hardly much awkwardness visible on screen.

The only time there was floundering chemistry between leads in recent time due to which the movie suffered was JTHJ where Kat could not match srk’s intensity level and those uncommunicative romantic chit chats stood out like conversing to a dumb blonde….even the unusual steamy sex scene was cold and odd.

The same movie had few livewire Srk- Anushka moments. This in spite of Anuska’s role being under written to give required edge to the lead actress. That somewhat salvaged the movie but that was clearly wrong casting for ‘that kind’ of movie.

  16. Sonam is the weak link here. Her ordinary acting and grating voice is not going to do this film any good. But the film itself is a godsend for her. The promos look good, though it appears a bit too larger than life, not sure how comfortable Sooraj Bharjatya might be tacking that. Overall, happy to see a family film on its way this Diwali.

    Like

    • It is not Salman Khan, it is Barjatya. Don’t think Salman khan would call his movie with another director like Sajid Nadiadwala. Salman Khan currently doing a movie with this title is not imaginable.

The title is acceptable only coz of Sooraj Barjatya, he could have even kept this title for his previous movie – Vivah and still it would have done same. No one would have laughed at that Barjatya’s simple movie.

Vivaah did blockbuster business in interiors .. but in big cities it was complete failure. Its business pattern was exactly like Nadiya Ke Paar.

“This Prem Ratan Dhan Payo Song May Remind You of Salman’s Old Songs
The makers of Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor’s upcoming film Prem Ratan Dhan Payo released a new song, Jalte Diye, from the film, which talks about the love story of Maithli and Prem – but all’s not well.

Maithli (Sonam Kapoor) is head over heels in love with Prem (Salman Khan), but something is holding him back. This may be a hint for Salman’s reported double role in the Sooraj Barjatya-directed film.

Apart for the troubled love story Prem and Maithli, the visuals in the song may remind Salman Khan fans of his song Chand Chupa Badal Mein from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam….”.

  30. This looks to be massive. I had no idea the budget was so high, it was a well kept secret. Look to be a 150 crore budget, definitely the highest for Salman. I’ve liked all the song trailers thus far and I agree with MSDhoni, the overseas BO is going to be a monster given the song trailers, budget and hype especially after Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Bollywood’s yearly combined net BO have been around 2400 Crores these past few years (with this year looking to be less), but salman himself looks like he will contribute at least 650 crores to that, or more than 1/4 of the entire earnings.

SRK has big reason to worry- I was thinking in January that Dilwale would have a solo Xmas release and become the biggest hit of the year or at least second after PRDP, but now with the clash, and the unexpected huge success of BB, I don’t think it’ll be in the Top 2. Dilwale has to clear 300 for SRK.

    Like

    • Where have you been if you thought Dilwale was going to have a solo release.

Will be difficult for Dilwale to cross 225, nevermind 300. BM is not a push over film. It’s probably more expensive than Dilwale. But I think the Christmas/New Year is much better spot than Diwali (there is a reason why aamir always wants his movies to release on Christmas time). You get like 10 days of festive mood with plenty of days off from work/school. And there is no puja or prayer standing in a way 🙂

PRDP looks grand, I’m sure it will cross 300. I hope it’s a good family drama, haven’t had one of those in long time.

  31. “India Is Burning With ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ Fever”

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is coming, and India could scarcely be more ecstatic. The new Bollywood extravaganza, which reunites the blockbuster filmmaking team of director Sooraj Barjatya and star Salman Khan, has movie fans tweeting, singing and dubsmashing at a level of frenzied excitement rarely seen outside the sub-continent.

For those of us who aren’t Indian residents or members of the Indian diaspora, it’s nearly impossible to fathom the wave of fanaticism and hype that greets a film like PRDP. Imagine the rush of excitement movie fans in London, New York or Sydney would experience if the new Star Wars trilogy were to release on the same day as a Harry Potter sequel and the next Avatar movie. Now double that amount of energy and you’ll only begin to understand the sense of anticipation awaiting Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
The film is set to arrive in theaters across India and around the world on November 12th, a day after the Diwali festival and at the start of a 4-day holiday weekend. This is an auspicious time for opening a movie, having been the launch date for numerous successful releases, including the second Sooraj-Salman pairing, Hum Apke Hain Koun..!, a romantic comedy that grossed a phenomenal 1.35 billion rupees back in 1994 (the equivalent of about $US 69 million in today’s currency). Expectations are high for the new film, with analysts projecting that PRDP will gross at least 3 billion rupees (roughly $50 million), Some fans are even audaciously suggesting that the film could gross 10 billion rupees, which would make it India’s highest grossing movie by a margin of 50 percent over the current box office record-holder, the Aamir Khan starrer PK.

The high expectations are not unwarranted. PRDP has India’s hottest star in the lead role, playing a beloved character type that he has played many times before (this is Salman Khan’s 15th time playing a character named “Prem”). The movie will have the holiday weekend all to itself, since the debut of an erstwhile competitor, Ghayal Returns, has been postponed to early January. The music that has been released so far is transcendent, with beautifully crafted songs featuring the angelic voice of Palak Muchhal. And if the trailer gives us an accurate indication, it will be a terrifically entertaining picture, with top-notch directing, dancing, storytelling and visual splendor.

I’m sure Sena can easily protest that we will not let PRDP play in Maharashtra if the movie is played in Pakistan.

  37. “The Ratan (jewel) that shall earn Prem (love) & Dhan (money)!By Bollywood Hungama News Network, Oct 29, 2015 – 12:44 IST

    There are movies…
    There are hits…
    There are blockbusters…
And then, there are ICONIC BLOCKBUSTERS that come by once in years!

Mughal E Azam, Sholay, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, PK are some of the films that not only made tonnes of money, but became iconic milestones in the century old history of Indian cinema! They were hailed by the movie going audience when they released in cinemas and still continue to be watched by a large number of people when they play out on TV channels! As fans of great cinema and members of the film fraternity, all of us wait for such films to come by, not only because they plough a lot of money into the industry, but also because they are the ray of hope for a business that has a sub-10% success ratio in terms of return on investment!

This year on Diwali, Rajshri Productions (P) Ltd shall release their film Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which marks the coming together of a pair that holds an envious track record at the box office – the master director Sooraj R Barjatya and the megastar Salman Khan! After Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun and Hum Saath Saath Hain, the expectations that the trade and the audience have from this duo are sky high and I believe that the film will not just match the expectations of the audience, but surpass them by a long shot to join the league of iconic blockbusters that we celebrate till today!

Whenever I put on the TV over the weekends and flip channels, 9 out of 10 times, Zee Cinema plays out one of Sooraj Barjatya’s movies! The only reason why they do so, is because the films continue to get a solid viewership every single time they are aired, despite the number of repetitions week after week, year after year! The success of these films on the tube can be attributed to the fact that they are made for a universal audience! Every single member of a typical Indian family has something to take away from these cinematic gems! Not only do these films entertain, but they also make us want to be better people, by showcasing the values, love & respect that all of us would consider nothing short of idealistic in today’s world! They are our family bonding activity! They are our connect with our culture! They are the best route to escapism in a world where the newspapers tell you about murders, rapes, scams and other horrid crimes and incidents every morning! In times when sensationalism, dark & edgy cinema, abusive & cocky dialogues that make film makers haggle with the censor board are the order of the day, you are about to witness a clean, entertaining & inspiring film, that will break the clutter and make you laugh, cry, love, cherish your relationships like never before & try to be a better person!

Many people have been questioning the relevance & potential for receptivity of a film like Prem Ratan Dhan Payo in these times, but interestingly, there couldn’t have been a better film than a trademark Rajshri family entertainer to show us the mirror & make us reflect upon the way things work in families all over the country today. This film is possibly a game changer in terms of the audience it shall cater to primarily. While most Salman Khan films play to the galleries of the masses, this one shall also bring the women / housewives in tier two & three towns who have switched entirely to daily soaps on the television for their entertainment back into the cinemas in huge numbers. Besides, it is expected to have a word of mouth that will ensure that tickets are booked in larger quantities than the regular standards today to accommodate the entire family, rather than a person or two for company. The movie shall in all probability, make us Indians value the relationships we have with our families & the joys we cherish when we spend quality time with them.

Maine Pyaar Kiya was a story that told us what true, unconditional love meant. Hum Aapke Hain Koun showcased the importance of sacrifices that we make for the happiness of those we love. Hum Saath Saath Hain was about the strength of unity in a family. And Prem Ratan Dhan Payo shall make us value our relationships, irrespective of the ups and downs they go through in life!

Let the countdown for the release begin! All of us in the show business shall have more reasons to celebrate than just Diwali! ”

    • This is not Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’s advance booking but it is the crowd watch MSG 2 on its 49th days! 😀

MSG 2 on the 49th day, November 5, of the film’s release there were a staggering 1175 shows of the film that went houseful.

The distributors of the film Pankaj Khemka and Joginder Mahajan, distributors for East Punjab and Delhi/UP territories were extremely upbeat about the films performance. While Pankaj Khemka said that the film’s performance was “unprecedented and historic”, Joginder Mahajan commented that the film had “surpassed all expectations.”

Adding to the distributors, producer CP Arora said that such sustained craze was totally unanticipated, while the GM of PVR cinema in Chandigarh, Chandermohan Sharma said, “There was utter disbelief as no one thought this was possible. But all shows are totally sold out. This is a dream.”

Sonam’s doesn’t match either. Actually, this and Dilwale are regressive cinema. They won’t flop, though. Core Indian audience doesn’t evolve.

      • I can only decipher what I see from the trailer. Sooraj’s cinema is hardly ever ground-breaking. Rajshris repackage, recycle, repeat their own cinema.

The less said about SRK’s HNY, CE and Rohit Shetty’s (all films) the better.

It’s not really evolving cinema. It’s got nothing to do with Yanks.
Trouble is we keep lapping up the same stupidity and then complain…

        • Offside, Who is complaining?

There are things in life which are fine as they are.

I would rather have sooraj and rohit do the type of films they like to make instead of trying anurag kashyap type of films and be bad at it. We have anurag to make those films so it’s not like nobody is making it.

Dhoni doesn’t become a bad cricketer just because he doesn’t bowl.

While on a visit to India couple months ago, I found some of the best and most famous places to eat in India has been serving same dish for over 75 years and there’s still huge line for it, I hope you get my point 🙂

I get your point about evolving but there’s nothing wrong with if somebody wants to do what they like to do. Specially if there are people enjoying/paying to see it. And people are smart, they don’t just dish money on what they dont’ like otherwise ra.one would have made same amount of money as HNY or CE.

        • Offside, why you bother watching or having expectations with commercial cinema? You are lumping all successful films iwth flop movies as well (Barjatya’s etc). There is enough crowd which is entertained by such films and its for them. You don’t need to watch it nor complain about it.

          Like

        • Not sure I understand what you’ve just posted.

But if you’re saying the same group of people who complained about HSSH, CE, etc will pay very decent amount for movie tickets to watch PRDP and Dilwale and than complain? Well, shame on them than for going to see a movie which they know exactly what it’s about and how it’s made. Is Sooraj/Rohit/Salman/SRK making any false promises?

But I suspect “complaining” is more from non fans of those actors/stars.

  50. Coming to the earlier comment, even in this fast paced world, we Indians still cherish human connections/ family. I think togetherness is a very important ingredient to our lives.

Meanwhile first reports are here –

    http://www.dnaindia.com/entertainment/report-salman-khan-sonam-kapoor-s-prem-ratan-dhan-payo-leaves-salim-khan-teary-eyed-2142266

Salman Khan-Sonam Kapoor’s ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ leaves Salim Khan teary-eyed!

“Usually before every release, Salman Khan makes sure that papa Salim Khan watches the first screening of the film. Why? It’s only after watching the first cut that Salim saab suggests some changes, which Salman implements in his films. Seldom has he gone wrong but there are times when Salim saab is bowled over by the product. Such is the case with Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.

A traditional family drama in an otherwise modern set-up, Sooraj Barjatya’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has all the elements of being the next blockbuster of 2015. The actor, who recently arranged for a special screening of his film for his dad was surprised with his dad’s reaction.

Recently in a conversation with Patrika group, Salman told reporters that his father came out of the theatre teary-eyed after watching PRDP. And this time, he didnt suggest any changes. Instead, he asked Salman to convey a message to Sooraj. “The only thing my dad told me was ‘Sooraj ko bolo ghar pe aaram se so jaye’ (ask Sooraj to go home and sleep),” Salman told the daily.

Now this only goes on to prove that Barjatya has a winner in hand, given that Salim saab is Salman’s biggest critic and he unabashedly tells him what’s wrong with his films after watching them. He had also asked Kabir Khan and Salman to remove the Aaj ki Party track from Bajrangi Bhaijaan as he felt it lowered the impact of the film. “

No wonder there are reports of rift between Aamir and Salman. As long as Salman didn’t have prestige as a star, he was no threat. I don’t expect Salman to catch up with SRK and Aamir in terms of quality, but appealing to the classes (and masses) with decent to good projects, as well as staying ahead in BO game, is going to make the other two a wee bit insecure.

Earning money and appreciation are two different things and hoping for the latter with this one considering the genre at stake here.

On an aside just waiting for you tube footage from single screen at Salman’s entry and rocking noise at title song.

Incidentally the soccer song sung by Neeraj Shirdhar is becoming a favorite after Jab Tum Chaho……..

  69. So with just two more days to go, who thinks that PRDP can turn out to be half as bad as MPKD? I think there is a small possibility that it maybe so. Here is why:

    – Sooraj is good at creating moments, and depicting relationships, but not so good at telling a convoluted story. That is where he faltered in MPKD.

    – Picturization of songs is his other strength. Here they look rather lame. And the style does look a bit outdated.

    – He is more at home in depicting typical middlle-class and upper middle-class homes and characters. He seems to be a little out of his depth in these royal settings.

But let’s wait and see. We will know in a couple of days.

    Like

    • I think in MPKD, he tried to do Johar and failed.

I was wondering if the royal settings/charechters were needed to tell the story he is telling for PRDP, if yes, than I’m sure he’ll do justice to it. This is by far his biggest movie in terms of budget.

      Like

    • Utkal all fair points and even the biggest and best have faltered and there is no sure fire / unerring thing in creative field.

Even if we forego Salman’s super stardom he seems to be in touch with the times and you must have heard ‘course correction’ a lot in the political context these days , there will be sufficient reshaping / fixing by him.

We don’t know anything on the picturization of songs yet as the clips are all mashed up from different parts. Songs will be the strong points esp most of them feature Salman and he makes them work with his own things.

Fortunately movie is not that long and even if gets melodramatic / preachy there is sufficient action towards the end which will eliminate boredom. If you remember Bajrangi Bhaijaan the action scene midway suddenly jolted the audience out of dormancy !

What I hope to see in not TV serial but ekdum hatke story which takes us by surprise.

    • So it is not a good movie unlike Bajrangi Bhaijaan. And it has nothing new to offer. Screenplay is weak. But it is on expected lines. It is still decent for those who enjoy sooraj barjatya movies like vivaah or hardcore salman fans or say who just want to watch movie on diwali no matter what.

      • Can’t think of the Barjatya movie which could be given superlative reviews. Big hits or not. As for the reviews it wouldn’t be surprising if he didn’t get sensational ones. He’s not New Indian enough. For the same reason a film like Bajrangi.. will always get overrated. It’s the sort of thing liberal reviews love. Not knocking it. I liked it (though I didn’t find it extraordinary). Just pointing out that in India films usually get good reviews based on box office concerns and/or this sort of ideological framework.

        • Agreed, this review becomes creditable for me as it talks of the music being good and hummable. That ascertains reviewer didnt have much expectations or to say he kept his expectations right. Actually, everyone knows what this film offers, and almost all audience can tell what next scene is going to be. Still, there is some charm in such movies by Rajshree, but music has to click for huge success.
From trade point of view, it wont be 300+, could still come close to 250 cr though. The problem is young audience especially males wont patronize it.

  81. Cinema: Prem is Our Idea of India
He was christened Prem for the first time with Maine Pyar Kiya in 1989 and as Salman Khan turns up charm offensive as Prem once again Diwali 2015, with Sooraj Barjatya’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, it holds much bigger significance not just for the cinegoers but for millions looking to celebrate the idea of India. And like always, the best celebration of India is happening at the movies! Diwali is a time to celebrate the victory of good over evil, of celebrating love, and tolerance over hate and prejudice, and of course, there cannot be a better time than this, to have a film that brings back Salman Khan as Prem!

The opening day numbers of the film are set to create new records at the box office and there are a number of reasons for this but the most critical of those is that the film celebrates family ties, love and togetherness. To that extent, it also represents what the industry is all about – where scores of people hailing from different religions and regions come together to create that one ultimate celluloid dream that has the power to not just entertain but change the lives of millions across the globe! Actors let go off their personal beliefs and choices and adorn the grease paint and face scorching lights to become someone else – only with the idea of bringing joy to their audiences. Everything is created with only one idea – to bring a smile on the faces of strangers captured in darkness and bound by a silver screen……”
