Prem Ratan Dhan Payo saw a drop of collections on day eight as it grossed around the 3.75-4 crore nett mark. This was expected as North India was weak after day one and the films that really sustain well tend to be strong in North. Mumbai circuit tends to fall off outside Gujarat as a film goes into week two. The same has happened here with the Gujarat fall coming as collections were at very high levels on the weekdays.
Gujarat / Saurashtra has fallen but from its lofted levels but still collections are good. Normally it would be an 17-18 crore nett second weekend for the film but that has to seen as the growth is driven by Delhi and Punjab but here the film is not doing that well in these areas.
The average performance in some areas has meant that the business of the film on day eight is the third highest of the year after Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Tanu Weds Manu Returns when it really should have been the second highest.
true.. if he can’t get a big one here or if he can’t bring up his best game for Salman it’s clear that he just doesn’t have it in him anymore. Or at least can’t adapt enough. And perhaps he never really had it in him beyond a few films in the 90s. He was never talented in the sense of being a signature director or something. But he had this format that he could often make in very fluid ways. It worked for a while and then the audience just moved on. Having said all that it wouldn’t have taken too much to deliver a more acceptable film in this format given Salman’s position at the moment. He could have helped himself with a better actress (for this terrain), certainly better music and so on. Unlike MPKDH he wasn’t attempting a Johar sort of deal here. He was on home terrain.
actually Sooraj has a rather poor record after his first two films. HAHK released in 1994. HSSH half a decade later was one of the big grossers that year solely because of the initial. Didn’t do too well beyond this. Nonetheless this was a film where he was in control. MPDKH was also a film that didn’t do much after an initial. It did worse than HSSH of course and was generally disliked. Vivian was extraordinary on trending but only in small town India. Which is why despite running for ages in these centers it’s overall gross was still limited. And now we have the current film which seems to be following the MPDKH trajectory, not even the HSSH one. So it’s not about the number of films but a director who clearly seems to be out of touch with his audience. He doesn’t have a clean hit no questions asked kind of deal in two decades. One can still accept some excuses for HSSH and Vivaah.
And this is why the Mehra analogy doesn’t hold. Any director will have flops. But Mehra is assuredly on the right side of his multiplex audience. He’s just a riskier director. Aks didn’t work, RDB did, D6 didn’t work, BMB did. But his skill set remains the same. And of course all these films aren’t the same anyway. D6 especially had a very different kind of treatment. That’s a different debate. The point is any number of directors, even the very best ones, will have failures. A Raju Hirani is extremely unusual in this sense. Or take even Farhan Akhtar. I’d say each of his films is less interesting than the previous one (though I’d probably take don2 over the first one) but he’s still very much on control as a craftsman and is certainly on the right side of once again the multiplexes. With the right script he could still do something worthwhile. So it all depends on what kind of failure it is. Bhansali is an even better example. He has a number of failures. But he still knows how to put something together that can interest an audience.
by the way everything that doesn’t fail like Besharam isn’t an ‘underperformer’. Even otherwise as far as I can tell most people seem to have disliked it. The others are also not saying it’s great. They just find it decent.
and by the way here I’d reference the Master point again. His DDLJ/HAHK example was one I found a bit too limited (because one has to multiply these examples in every direction and not just use one) but here is another example of where piracy can be problematic. We all know the obvious where it impacts every film and so on. But note how it also impacts the big hit in a very special way. Take PK. A film that made 335 or whatever. There must have been enough people here who didn’t mind a repeat but how many actually went for it? Since it clearly wasn’t adored the way 3I was. In other words if I like a movie enough I might watch it a second time but unless I’m crazy about it I might just check it out a third or fourth time or whatever on a pirated source. This doesn’t apply to a failure or a film that is just passable because no one wants to check it out a second time anyway. They might watch it on TV over time but at that point they’re not interested in more viewings. Again if people are absolutely crazy about a film (like 3I) this doesn’t hold as much but very few blockbusters, even true blue ones, fall in that category. Usually they’re either not loved as much or not loved as much by everyone (for genre reasons and so on). And the reason I come up with this example is that once again the whole piracy argument has to be examined a number of different ways. But here it’s relevant because when a film like HNY falls behind something like Bajrangi by 100-125 crores (depending on what figures you believe) the gap is probably much more than this in real terms. And hence this idea that a ‘flop’ still made 100 or 200 or whatever and so it isn’t ‘too bad’ is misleading even in this sense (leaving aside the fact that unless there’s a Besharam it’s almost impossible after a huge initial not to get to a big number.. to say that a film is unfloppable in this sense is rather absurd.. and no one says this anywhere in the world from South India to Hollywood.. no one says this even in Bollywood when films actually trend well.. then they suddenly change their tune!).
Barjatya and Salman messed up by taking Sonam. I thought Deepika might not suit the traditional saree role but the role was actually of modern princess and whom ‘Prem Dilwale’ is a huge fan. Deepika would be stunning in that role (even OSO had SRk playing her fan). This was perfect role for Deepika and additional advantage was that both Deeps and Salman are never paired together and no better movie to keep come together. Heck, I would have even liked Katrina.. saying she is Indian born princess but went to England and grew up and came back to India just to marry the Prince.
Rajshree did a online poll before movie starts.. who will be better opposite Salman – Sonam or Deepika. Even Barjtatya and Sonam mentioned in interviews.. there was lot of resistance from everyone in casting Sonam for the role but he was adamant. When you getting #1 leading actress(Deepika), why be adamant in casting who’s not even in Top 5?
Naseeb was a massive hit. It was sold for unheard of prices at the time and it was still huge. Even otherwise this is not the best counterexample for AAA. You keep bringing up the Bachchan examples gratuitously without frankly knowing what you’re talking about. If you did you would have used some other examples for the same actor. You’re just randomly picking films here. But even otherwise I’ve responded to all of this in detail. Why calling this sort of film makes no sense using any reasonable yardstick. If you can’t understand this stuff or choose to not understand that might be an issue with you but I’m not going to keep repeating the same stuff over and over again. I don’t think you’re as dense as you’re pretending to be here. Whether this is supposed to be for the benefit of HNY or not or whatever it’s not working! Nor did it work for HNY. If this is preparing ground for Dilwale (!) again it won’t work (though I don’t expect a Shetty film to be in that position).
BTW I have also got lot of reports on this 1 hour footage shown. The footage shown was actually in the sequence of how the movie unfolded so one can make out whether the movie is good or not. I am pretty confident on this movie doing well but there is a ceiling due to the clash which is very unfortunate. Of course it can turn out that all the reports were off the mark but I will be really surprised if that’s the case specially because some of the friends I spoke to have decent taste
if you remember people were shown 1 hour footage of Ra One and how media went crazy, and we know the results.
This is all PR exercise. Kjo, Taran and all media were going gaga over Dilwale trailer as it is the best thing ever happened to humanity. And i wish they shouldn’t have released the trailer to keep faith intact in sanity.
I know but in case of Ra-1 it was lot of songs and some action scenes, not a sequential unfolding of story….as I said one has to take this with a pinch of salt but there is real positivity in the trade on this
yes but an hour is still only 35-40% of the film. Put differently you could show an hour of any number of inadequate films and make them look way better than they are. I don’t have any doubts about Shetty. But he’s never shattered records (or he’s very far from the absolute standards at any given point) and he’s never made more than disposable films (though some are obviously better than others). The clash hurts of course, that’s a different point. But the hour that is shown isn’t necessarily conclusive. but the opposite is also true. You could probably show an hour out of any Hirani film and it would seem less than what those films eventually became. Because his films are much more about accumulated strengths, not only about great individual moments (which of course they have). This point is important. Bajrangi was also that sort of film. Yes it had good moments but the overall narrative was greater than the sum of its parts. The biggest grossers have to be this way. Shetty usually doesn’t make that sort of film. If he’s done so here it would be the first exception other than Singham (not surprisingly this was the best trending film of his because it also wasn’t just a collection of moments).
Also in terms of these reports I’ve probably seen them for tons and tons of films. All the big ones you ask the same folks and they’ll say the same stuff. Who was expecting anything less from HNY?
what is true however is that Bhansali being a bit of a head case won’t back down where most others would have. I’m not saying he doesn’t have the right to do whatever he wants but since he too has an expensive film and is working in a more difficult genre it would make much more sense to give it more breathing room. The Dilwale gross can be affected but not it’s ultimate result. With bhansali the same might be true but the bar is much lower here. If he’s looking at a 100 crore hit and if he ends up with 75 that’s just foolish whereas if you’re getting 250 and end up with 220 that’s an altogether different scenario. And in the final analysis no one remembers these clashes and these prestige issues. It’s about whether a film worked or not. Yes that season might be a good one for releases but that advantage is canceled out if you have that sort of competition.

I just want to inform fans of Salman Khan that nothing going to change by abusing people. #PremRatanDhanPayo is a flop n will remain flop.
KRK @kamaalrkhan 6h6 hours ago
Producers n their critics don’t have courage to give 2nd Friday collections of flop film #PremRatanDhanPayo Hahaha lol! Hamse Mat Takranaa.
I don’t doubt what the distributors/journalists saw but you can take good things out of 3 hour movie and make it 30 to 60 minute reel with all the good things in it. The key is what’s in those other 90 to 120 minutes.
PDRP seems to be underperforming bigtime (if not an outright flop)
Anyhow yet another announcement …
Hrithik Roshan signs Kabir Khan-Sajid Nadiadwala’s next
November 21, 2015 Urvi Parikh 29645 reads 4 comments
After much speculations regarding which film is Hrithik Roshan signing apart from Mohenjo Daro, which he is shooting currently, things seem to have come to an end. While we are not sure about the other films in which Hrithik is rumoured to star, the one that has been confirmed is Kabir Khan’s next to be produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.
Hrithik Roshan confirmed the same to Hindustan Times and said, “Working with Kabir is going to be fantastic. And I feel very assured (working) with Sajid.” Though the other details haven’t been finalized yet, the report further states that the film, in all likelihood, will go on the floors sometime next year.
Director Kabir revealed to the daily, “Hrithik, Sajid bhai and I have been very eager to work together for a while now. So it’s happening, for sure.”
Adds Sajid, “I am very excited about the film. I can’t wait to start working with the lethal combination of Kabir and Hrithik.”
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo: What makes the film an all-time blockbuster
“Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor have struck gold with the release of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. The film marks the comeback of the hit jodi of Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya. The film, which emphasizes on family values, seems to have struck a chord with the audience and is minting moolah for its makers. ….”

“After Salman Khan, Kabir Khan will now work with Hrithik Roshan!
Hrithik confirmed with the daily saying, “Working with Kabir is going to be fantastic. And I feel very assured (working) with Sajid.” Kabir on his part added, “Hrithik, Sajid bhai and I have been very eager to work together for a while now. So it’s happening, for sure.”
George Lucas splits with ‘Star Wars’ after 38 years, cites irreconcilable differences
by Mannie Holmes at 06:11 PM on Nov 21, 2015
“Star Wars” creator and original director George Lucas had little involvement with the forthcoming “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” but he recently confirmed it to be his last film with the franchise.
“The issue was ultimately, they looked at the stories and they said, ‘We want to make something for the fans,’” Lucas tells Charlie Rose on “CBS This Morning.” “People don’t actually realize it’s actually a soap opera and it’s all about family problems — it’s not about spaceships.”
After selling his Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012, the creator states that he has officially ended his relationship with the franchise that made him a household name.
He continues, “So they decided they didn’t want to use those stories, they decided they were going to do their own thing so I decided, ‘fine…. I’ll go my way and I let them go their way.’”
The famous creator says that he will have absolutely nothing to do with the installments to follow. Release dates for “Episode VIII” and “Episode IX” have been announced for 2017 and 2019, respectively.
Lucas further explains in an interview with Vanity Fair why he decided to back off from “Episode VII: The Force Awakens.”
“You go to make a movie and all you do is get criticized,” he says. “People try to make decisions about what you’re going to do before you do it. It’s not much fun. You can’t experiment. You have to do it a certain way.”
Although the “Star Wars” films have strayed away from Lucas’ original vision, the filmmaker says that he has other stories on the horizon. “I will be directing movies, but not movies generally that will be shown anywhere,” Lucas says.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” hits theaters Dec. 18.
Delighted that Salman’s next two outings are action packed themes. The way he got the audience charged with that unique hand to hand combat action sequence in BB. Would like to see him perform action stunts in a raw & new format.

Prakash Jaju’s comment shows how wrong our distributors are. He was adamant that PRDP will do 400cr even after the 1st weekend and saying that family audience are going crazy over it. Slowly he accepted the fact but still he fought the losing battle till the end!
they’re not as much as they try and play games, 95% of the the time I can predict with enough accuracy how much I film is going to do just based on some anecdotal reactions in the very initial stages. It’s hard to believe that people like Jaju who get inputs from all over the place don’t know more.
I’m reluctant to throw numbers but I did with PRDP and I’m pretty spot on in spite that huge weekend. This one not crossing 200 crores (or 225 with additional day which I didn’t factor in on 1st day).
Rakesh Roshan to direct son again…Film starts shooting in January
It is final, though not yet official. Hrithik Roshan will once again be directed by father Rakesh Roshan. But this time it is not another film in the Krrish series, but something else altogether. According to sources in the know Rakesh Roshan and his son are coming together for the fifth time to do an intense love story.
Says the source, “Rakeshji has not done a full-fledged love story since Kaho Na…Pyar Hai in which he launched his son. After that they got busy with the Krrish series. But now Rakeshji feels the need to reclaim his romantic roots with Hrithik.”
Though neither father Rakesh nor son Hrithik Roshan is willing to admit it yet, the love story is something that the father and son owe to themselves to one another, and to the audience.
Explains the source, “Rakeshji produced an intense love story Kites for his son. But Anurag Basu made a hash of it. Now Rakeshji wants to direct a passionate love story. The script has been finalized and the project goes on the floors early next year.”
“Kiran wanted to move of India, she fears for kids” – Aamir Khan
Aamir Khan broke his silence on the intolerance debate in India by making a startling disclosure that his wife Kiran Rao had asked him recently that the family should move out of India because of the “insecure environment” in the country. “For the first time Kiran has spoken about moving out of the country. She fears for her kids,” Aamir stated. “India’s social fabric is not at its best right now. I am certainly alarmed. I feel there is a sense of insecurity, fear. It has been growing over the last six months. For any society a sense of security is a must,” Aamir said.
Interesting part is he spoke at an awards ceremony, supporting returning of awards as a protest, and in the presence of Jaitley.
I was wondering whether he was a chamcha of Modi like Salman, but I’m glad he spoke up.
I’m beginning to respect him. Thought him of being a hypocrite with his satyamev jayte sponsored by Ambani.
I think all this is media created perception and debate. Fortunately or unfortunately, we live in Twitter and Facebook era; anything can be projected to look big.
Couple of weeks back I was in Bangalore in middle of Tipu’s anniversary and protests. When I looked at TV, Bangalore was filled with protests on road. But when I was commuting (I was travelling good 2-3 hours daily), I didn’t see anything like that. People were busy with their livelihoods. People did talk about Bihar results.

Do Khans know millions of Muslims are running from their holy land seeking assylum in Christian nations? But no ordinary Indian Muslims does
I think comparatively this is far more controversial statement by Aamir Khan when you look back SRK’s comment. Also, Aamir clearly mentioned that insecurity has been growing over last 6 months. Giving an opinion about current status of the country (freedom of speech) and talking about moving out of country is not the same!
I would further accept his comments if it were made on behalf of someone ( someone who did not have a voice ) but to say – ” my wife suggested moving out of India” is simply irresponsible and outrageous and shame on you Aamir Khan for saying that !
This is your freakin motherland and why would you even suggest that ( even jokingly ) at such a big forum? At least I preferred SRK’s response when he said – to all those suggesting me to leave I am not going anywhere and this is as much my country as yours…. (NDTV)
Feel extremely sad if this is coming after PK where the so called intolerant country made a sensitive subject the biggest grosser to date.
Of course there are instances of intolerant people in all walks of life but how can we generalize it with one stroke??? He should have had much more faith in his country and his ‘own’ people ( govt come and go). The glaring example is in front for all to see in the form of Bihar election where divisiveness has been rejected outright in huge number by the ‘People of India’
That’s a nuisance. Like that thing which blew up recently – I never said India is intolerant. When I was asked about it, I said I wouldn’t like talking about it, but when they insisted, I had just said that the youth should concentrate on making this a secular, progressive country. It is just that people like to believe what they want to believe. Misconstruing my words might or might not suit a particular political agenda, but I am annoyed because I didn’t mean what is being portrayed. I am an actor and make films. This is enough of a job. I am an icon because I can be what I am on screen http://www.pinkvilla.com/entertainment/news/345260/i-never-said-india-intolerant-shah-rukh-khan
“When asked about the recent Paris attacks and the emergence of ISIS, Mr Khan said he is worried about such acts.
“I do think about these things. I don’t think that was an Islamic act. A person holding Quran and killing people, he may be feeling he is doing an Islamic act but as a Muslim I don’t think he is doing an Islamic act,” Aamir Khan said while speaking at the eighth edition of Ramnath Goenka Excellence awards.
“I am very clear that a person who is killing innocents is not a Muslim. As far as I am concerned, he is not a Muslim. He may claim to be a Muslim but we should not recognise him like that. He is a terrorist and should be recognised as a terrorist. My problem is not just with the ISIS, it is with that kind of thinking,” he said.
The actor said he is worried about “extreme thinking”.
Meanwhile the Intolerance in Delhi assembly is getting serious, saala an AAPtard MLA was physically removed from there for asking a question to Uturn Purush !!!!
Shato Bhushan – the financer/ founder of AAP says that Uturn purush is the most corrupt person in the history of India !!
If you read the comments above you will see how minds work.
That she feels scared for her child and feels insecure has gone down the drain. What everyone is arguing, including that idiot Anupam Kher is as though she wants to leave India because she WANTS to.
She (and Aditi Hydari) are part of royal family of hyderabad…where hindus and muslims are mixed…just like Aamir khan who is also third generation product of hindu mothers. So it behooves for both of them to talk positives (just as AnupamKher says) instead of empty rants….otherwise leave the country that gave you name and fame first and then talk! They can go to Paris or U.K. Both places have rising intolerance for real.
Anupem Kher @anupemkher
@aamir_khan. Did you ask Kiran which country would she like to move out to? Did you tell her that this country has made you AAMIR KHAN.
Dear @aamir_khan. Did you tell Kiran that you have lived through more worse times in this country & but you never thought of moving out.
Dear @aamir_khan. When did ‘Incredible India’ become ‘Intolerant India’ for you? Only in the last 7-8 months? #AtithiDevoBhavah
Dear @aamir_khan Presumed country has become #Intolerant. Wat do u suggest 2 millions of Indians? Leave India? Or wait till regime changes?
Dear @aamir_khan. #SatyamevaJayate u talked about evil practices but gave Hope. So even in ‘Intolerant’ times u need 2 spread Hope not Fear.
He is BJP’s spokesperson and has been given the job of sabotaging the main points of fear and insecurity that Kiran feels for their child and to colour the whole thing in a light that would give it a controversial/political angle.
And working very hard for their welfare with a BJP MP wife in tow. I love such refugees. Modi did promise them their promised land. Wifey should ask MOdi for more details about the progress made in that direction.
As expected social media has exploded and all sorts of fanaticism both pro and against is at full display. Not that I agree with Anupam Kher all the time but here he makes a valid plea considering his position and the impact it has on national discourse. This is also is a gist of my comment earlier here –
“Anupam Kher @AnupamPkher 6m6 minutes ago
Dear @aamir_khan. #SatyamevaJayate u talked about evil practices but gave Hope. So even in ‘Intolerant’ times u need 2 spread Hope not Fear”.
“My wives may be Hindu but my kids will always follow only Islam: Aamir Khan”—I think that’s a more problematic comment than any comment srk has made. Srk has certain ‘compulsions’ given his antecedents from across the north west border of india
Apparently the ‘intolerance’ noise lasted only till the recent elections?
Box Office: Salman Khan clocks 500 crores in a single year
“With Prem Ratan Dhan Payo striking gold at the box office and Bajrangi Bhaijaan shattering records all over, Salman Khan has now become the first and the only Bollywood actor to have clocked Rs. 500 crores in a single year at the India box office. But with PRDP still holding strong at the box office, despite newer releases, the film holds enough steam to continue its solo run this week enabling Salman to come within striking distance of the Rs. 550 crores target at the India box office.
However, it isn’t just this year that Salman has been topping the box office charts, in fact in 2012, Salman Khan’s two releases (Ek Tha Tiger and Dabangg 2) had grossed approximately Rs. 353 crores at the India Box office whereas in 2014, his film Jai Ho and Kick combined collected approximately Rs. 346 crores. However with this year’s collections, Salman Khan has broken his own record.
On the other hand, when it comes to actresses, readers may recollect that Deepika Padukone had grossed Rs. 632.48 crores from her 4 releases Race 2, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela in the year 2013.
However with Aamir Khan, working on a solo release every year, chances are that Salman’s record might go uncontested. But, all said and done, with Shah Rukh Khan gearing up with two releases next year, he is well in contention to challenge Salman’s supremacy. Now the big question is ‘Will Shah Rukh Khan top Salman’s yearly box office collections or won’t he?’, only 2016 will tell….”
ek line bol diya and everyone loses their minds. if thats how he really feels then I’m glad he spoke about it…the media and certain factions of the country shouldn’t ever prevent someone from speaking their mind.
This is an utterly foolhardy statement as Aamir seems to
suggest as if this intolerance was born just 6 or 8 months ago!!
And what is this rubbish idea of leaving the country and fearing for the security & safety of his children as if he is living in Iran or Iraq or on the hit list of Taliban or ISIS!! And on top of it he seems to be living in his cocooned life where he is getting all the news from same sources which are hell-bent upon projecting India as an extremely intolerant Nation under Modi. And which country is more habitable and tolerant than India?? Only Kiran Rao has an answer, waiting for that!
“and what is this rubbish idea of leaving the country and fearing for the security & safety of his children as if he is living in Iran or Iraq or on the hit list of Taliban or ISIS!!”
why does it have to be that extreme (Taliban or ISIS) for people to fear for their kids?? I’m in the US and the level of hatred for Islam and Muslims is now in FULL hate mode. We have protesters in front of a Mosque with guns trying to intimidate (imagine if a group of Muslims had guns protesting in front of a Church; they all would be in Guantanamo!)…we have Mosque’s being vandalized, people being kicked off airplanes because they ‘look suspicious.’ So it doesn’t have to be Taliban or ISIS…it can be India or the US where there is a clear level of intolerance. If the US or India expect to be a great secular democracy…then Taliban or ISIS shouldn’t be a reference point.
@AamirsFan – “If the US or India expect to be a great secular democracy…then Taliban or ISIS shouldn’t be a reference point.”
Trump is doing a good job of shaking up the political establishment and the token political correctness U.S had gotten into lately in all arenas. He is working well towards letting few of the demons out in the open though even he knows probably this is his utmost reach….. Now unfortunately for him the State is founded on such sound principals that these aberrations don’t cast a long term shadow on its citizens and there are sufficient check and balances in place. Whatever Foreign policies the American pursue ‘overseas’ but within their own country by and large justice is never delayed / denied. This is very unlike the European model where the citizenry is itself twisted, bigoted and now under huge complex due to current power shift to Eastern economies.
America as a nation is secure and progressive and within a span of 12 months world will watch where a douche bag like Trump belongs. Indian democracy and people are somewhat on similar trajectory and the electorate all things considered prefer a somewhat progressive path even if it has involved accepting a foreign born, accented Hindi speaking widow to lead them esp when it came to test of harmonious existence.
The only difference between the two foundations I see which I have said many times here and where frustrations can result in serious turbulence is the integrity of the Police / Cops and somewhat outdated justice system.
It takes a lot of gumption to be self critical Munna 😉 Aamir kept digressing from the central point as he kept going in circle with regards to questions raised. He was ambivalent regarding his support for AWARD WAPSI gang and his own thoughts whether he would emulate them by returning all his awards!! He is no GOD or infallible for me as most fans make their favourites to be. I don’t subscribe to his set of thoughts on this very issue period
Saala: Look who is giving indians sermons!
zealots like ‘aamirsfan’–A covert follower of bin laden himself from the terrorism factory land.–Teaching us everything about freedom of expression & tolerance!
How ironical …
Btw why are the migrants running away from the Middle East Syria only going to Western Europe,
Why don’t they take refuge or be given refuge in your homeland or the Middle East ie the headquarters of their belief ?
A SHAMEFUL comment by aamir khan
And why is he using the poor ‘Kiran’ as a shield ?
& Note how the fandom of ‘myself aamir’ & ‘aamirsfan’ is stripped thru the middle …bcos the latter prototype can’t see beyond his religion
Beat up aamirsfan 🙂
He has always been a pathetic public speaker, and has now managed to land himself in some serious doodoo. Very problematic statement to make, especially given the current global situation. Europe is in full lock-down mode, they are beginning to experience the pains of going through real “security”, the kind that Indians have been going through since the early 80s. So resilient is India, that even after 26/11, India did not go through this type of lockdown, . So despite 26/11 and the connective blowback that could have come their way, both Khans had two massive smash-hits barely weeks after 26/11, effectively reaping the resilience and confidence of Indians in their own state. Mr Aamir Khan had his first 100cr blockbuster 3 weeks after 26/11. It was India’s inherent Tolerance in its own social fabric that enabled it. This din of intolerance seems to claim that the resilince of Indians in their own social fabric has suddenly evaporated in a space of 6-8 months!! He can leave and face the real intolerance which is sweeping Europe and US right now, after an incident that has threatened their way of life and added inconveniences into their daily routines. Inconveniences which Indians have been bearing since the 80s, and yet making blockbusters out of his movies.
Munna : “When I looked at TV, Bangalore was filled with protests on road. But when I was commuting (I was travelling good 2-3 hours daily), I didn’t see anything like that. People were busy with their livelihoods. …”
oldgold Says: “..There are people who don’t sense things till they are in the middle of it ;-)…”
Exactly. Surprising that you do not apply same logic when the ball is across the net. The libs make it sound like there are lynchings going on in every townsquare in India. The din of intolerance just does not reflect ground realities.
Aamir Khan seems to have drowned in the lib kool-aid, and made a very thoughtless comment. But he should be rest assured, that the loving public of India will ALWAYS fill his pockets up, PRECISELY because they are tolerant enough to ignore such foolish rants. He seems to have forgotten which country he is living in, the country that made him a $250M+ superstar.
Aamir Khan faced lots of protests, ugly language and singled out during PK run. The attack was directed against Aamir while ignoring Raju Hirani who was the writer and producer. PK was prevented reaching its full potential by hate mongers. Those comments make any sensitive person feel bad.
And Aamir only said what his wife thought. He was upfront and honest and did not try to be diplomatic like other stars who say one thing and think something else. Aamir is always transparent.
There are two options for him. He should stop giving honest answers or settle in some neutral country where one can live in peace without worrying. Or stay in India, face the fire and ask his wife to do the same instead of running away like a coward. Intolerance is everywhere. Recently I read about how a colored woman in Santa Monica, California was harassed entering her own flat in a predominently white community.
No country is completely safe.
Aamir comment regarding his wife wanting to leave India based on their perceived intolerant environment is indefensible. He could have just stayed at intolerant part. He still would have been ripped but now he has opened himself for attack from many sides with leaving part. There is nothing honest about it. He hasn’t been personally persecuted like MF Hussain. In fact he has been showered with love more than other two khans even with less charisma . His movies command more respect than anybody in Bollywood.
Even Sanjay dutt took those illegal weapons perceiving his family was in danger; he is still paying for his mistakes. I hope this is not the case with Aamir!
Perhaps you never went through hundreds of hate messages that he received during PK. His films were hit because people liked those films and those who saw those films only for Aamir are only part of the audience. It is incidental that he acted in films that wer liked by the audience.
Less charisma than the other two Khans? He has his own charisma.
but the assumption here is that everyone holding aamir responsible for PK’s content is not holding Hirani/VVC responsible. I personally hold all of them responsible, and dont intend to watch their movies henceforth. Certainly that is an acceptable form of protest?
I fully support Aamir Khan, if his wife feels that their kids are not safe here, he should immediately leave India. He has money, he can go anywhere. Maybe, he can think of living in Pakistan. I believe, a welcome message from Pakistan is already there.
There is no need for him to live in such an intolerant country like India where Muslims are being tortured at every corner and street throughout the country.
Is Pakistan more safe for Muslims? The insinuation is not right.
Of course Aamir is not correct about leaving India part but your comment is also not correct. It basically says that if you are Muslim and not satisfied you should go to Pakistan. What would Hindus do if they are not satisfied with country?
Debate, criticize, engage others positions..
That’s your opinion, I am 100% right in my opinion. India is perhaps the best place for minorities to live, still, if anyone thinks that he is not safe here, he should go to the country where he feels safe, Pakistan, Syria, Europe or USA where ever it may be, specially if he can afford.
What’s wrong in this, he has mentioned about leaving, not me.
I wouldn’t have objected if you stated like this (any where..Pakistan, Syria, USA, Europe) but specifically with Pakistan is problematic because of our history.
So Munna- they can selectively choose to outrage, (fake church attacks, and hold beef parties) but saala we we cannot even select a country to suggest to them…
what rubbish
and here is your answer plus the Paki papers are full of glee that an Indian Muslim has shamed India !!

@ANI_news #AamirKhan did not say all this, his wife a Hindu, said it.Imagine the situation if even she is feeling insecure-Azam Khan
Agreed that when you make comments like this you end helping fanatics (on both sides). But there is always implicit suggestion that if you are dissatisfied Muslim, please go/welcome to Pakistan. I think that is wrong.
Danny dialogue in Baby is very relevant. Aamir can anywhere with his money but you push the regular folks more towards the fanatics.
As always your comments are among the few here on these issues that aren’t incendiary and that are very calm and sensible in every sense. One can of course disagree with them or debate with you, that’s fine, but it’s always humorous to see people offended with one set of remarks or another (that’s their right) but then respond in ways that hardly seem more ‘balanced’ or cool-headed.
But you’ve hit the nail on the head here in any case. One can disagree with every single word that Aamir says but the Pakistan taunt is unacceptable whether one likes it or not. And again there have been so many Hindus in various walks of life who’ve criticized much more strongly. Again people might not agree with them but no one has asked them to go to leave the country or go to Pakistan. Why not?
The final point I’d make is (and without taking a position in all this.. though I have intervened from time to time to make larger points as I am trying to do here) that as far as I can see those who don’t like criticisms of the govt or the ‘present’ seem to use various sorts of tactics:
1)Congress stooges who are doing hatchet jobs
2)Liberals who didn’t want Modi in the first place
3)Muslims who should be given tickets to Pakistan
4)Hey what’s the problem? are people being lynched on every street?
The last of these is particularly dangerous because it suggests that unless things rise to that absolute level of violence anything below that is ‘ok’. In how many countries which we find problematic in all sorts of ways on similar grounds (or much worse) would we see lynchings on every street corner? Does this mean one shouldn’t object unless that happens?
But more importantly is there ‘any’ criticism that can be found justifiable? or is it all just fiction? everyone is simply motivated one way or the other to unfairly launch these attacks? But isn’t this what the defenders of a govt say in EVERY situation? Including those where those lynchings really do happen rather regularly? It’s easy to have a good conscience about anything.
Finally if a country is a democracy it has to live up to a higher standard. What’s happening in the Mideast is irrelevant. Should that be the standard for India? Much as we expect any number of democracies in the West to live up to a higher standard. You cannot say ‘compare us with Sweden’ at one end and then say at the other ‘hey at least we’re better than Saudi Arabia’!
Is it perfectly fine to blow out of proportion a few isolated incidents which are condemned by all and project India as a country where these type of incidents happens quite frequently. These things happen in every country and no one supports these, but, I have not seen a section of so called intellectual along with a section of media to project the whole country as an intolerant one in any other country. Aren’t they maligning the image of the country just to fulfill their agenda. And, if you talk of developed countries, they see all Muslims with suspicion, it is India, where minorities are not checked on airports based on their religion.
No one supported Dadri incident, everyone condemned it and now it is state’s responsibility to get guilty punished as per law. What else one can do about this unfortunate incident. And, that’s here the question comes if these things are happening in every street, then one can talk like that. For that unfortunate incident, issue has already been raised, much out of proportion.
And. still people think India is intolerant.
About Pakistan, yes, I believe they should live there to feel how minorities are treated there. No, I am not comparing India with Pakistan but one doesn’t respect the freedom being enjoyed until he tastes what actual intolerance is.
I actually don’t think it’s a few isolated incidents. I also don’t think that when govt ministers and sitting MPs routinely and constantly say certain things it’s just isolated stuff. But maybe I’m crazy. When Trump and Carson and Cruz and whoever say certain things I also don’t consider these isolated cases blown out of proportion.
At the end of the day there’s a question all of us have to answer and we can only be willing to face up to it ourselves. Others cannot convince us one way or the other. the question is this: are our political commitments to a party or an ideology (right or left or whatever) so great that every compromise with ‘facts’ and ‘truth’ can be made along the way? I don’t mean this in a judgmental sense but these strategies of avoiding facts by constantly blaming the other side as motivated, by constantly using analogies that are insincere, etc.. ultimately anything and everything can be judged wrong except the idea that supports one’s party. It’s always easy to make it about what others are saying as opposing to facing up to what’s going on. If one says these are ‘isolated incidents’ pretty much everything in the world shot of an ‘absolute violence’ of some sort is isolated incidents. Consider all the Islamist terrorism around the world. It’s ‘isolated incidents’ when considered as a fraction of the larger Muslim population worldwide and so on. But does this mean the horror or the barbarism of it becomes any less? These are all alibis which (and with all due respect) we pick up when we refuse to look into the mirror.
I am curious to know where would he and his family move to? USA? Europe? Middle east?China?..I think these stars are just tripping over themselves to stay in the news and he know for every 1 person who take offense to these statements there are 10 other ‘fence-sitters’ who will stand up for him (without understanding the greater context of the intolerance debate)
“What I feel is that he could have spoken without bringing Kiran Rao into the picture. And without her permission.”
THAT was my first reaction too! Husbands are so stupid naa…bringing bedroom conversations to public television. lol
ctor Akshay Kumar feels that the real-life story of his upcoming film “Airlift”, based on the biggest evacuation operation of Indians in Kuwait during the 90s when Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussain invaded his neighbouring country, deserves to find a mention in textbooks.
In 1990, Saddam Hussain invaded Kuwait. The Iraqi Army took over the city within a few hours. Kuwait, at that time, was home to almost 170,000 Indians, and people had suddenly become penniless and homeless. (See Pics of Akshay, Tammannah, Saif at Sajid Khan’s birthday party)
‘Airlift’ is a heroic story of Ranjit Katyal (played by Akshay Kumar), a wealthy and powerful Indian businessman. With the help of the Indian government, he safely evacuated 170,000 of his countrymen, helping them get back home.
“I think entire family should go and see this film, and this episode should be in textbooks. When we talk about history they don’t mention this, as there was a big political reason behind it. That time we were close to Saddam and we wanted to keep low profile, and so all these things were hidden,” Akshay Kumar said in a media interaction.
“I think this piece of history has to be in the textbooks. Its a very big thing what India did… They did something which was unbelievable. Even commercial pilots went in the war zone and brought people back,” he added.
The 48-year-old actor is surprised that there is hardly any mention about this episode even in media.
“When they came to me I loved the script… It was so real.. The drama. Its a great film to do. Its something hidden and I would love to bring it in front of audience,” he said.
“There were hardly one or two articles on this in newspapers. Like in Yemen, thousands of people were saved and the news is all over but this.. I don’t know how they managed it (to hide it),” Akshay Kumar added.
When the “Special 26” star first heard about the incident, he was surprised. “This is a real story. This story was hidden from all of us. India did a big thing of bringing back 1,70,000 Indians and it is there in the World Guinness records… It is the biggest airlift evacuation done by any country,” he said.
“Their experience was unbelievable. You are a billionaire and Saddam Hussein attacks and you have no money… I found it all unbelievable,” he added.
The actor also expressed his desire to meet this businessman who helped Indians.
“I am playing this character who in real life is still alive.. He is a big businessman. I cannot talk about him much. He is still in Kuwait. I did not meet him but my director and all have spoken to him over phone,” he added.
For this role, Akshay spoke a bit of Arabic language. “It is a hard language. I did speak but it was difficult I had to by-heart the language,” he adds.
For reference to play this character, Akshay revisited Balraj Sahini’s film “Waqt” as he could connect with the emotions. Besides, he also met a few pilots.
“I had seen Balraj Sahini’s ‘Waqt’ and in that how a happy family gets affected due to earthquake. That film got stuck in my mind. When the Iraqi people attacked, the biggest trouble was they were killing lot of Kuwaitis… They used to ask for passports and if you don’t have it then they used to kill you,” he added.
The film directed by Raja Menon also stars Nimrat Kaur. It is set to release on January 22 next year.
One actor talks about how India is intolerant and another talks about its greatness and tolerance.
A I R L I F T
A film for tolerant Indians. Intolerant Indians too.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo saw a big drop in the second weekend which was on the cards as Mumbai circuit came down from its lofted levels. The business of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo over the first three days of the second week is as follows.
Despite the drop in the second week the film is still a HIT due to the huge shares in week one. The film will hit the 100 cr share mark before the second week is out.
Spectre did pretty well at the box office in India but was totally driven by the English version as dubber versions did not fare too well especially the Hindi version. The business of Spectre over the first three days plus paid previews is as follows.
The film has put up a decent weekend but its unlikely if it will beat the lifetime total of the last Bond film Skyfall which grossed around 45 crore nett in India.
Ranbir Kapoor: I didn’t go to Salman Khan’s ‘Bigg Boss 9’ for personal reasons
Ranbir Kapoor’s absence from the promotional stint of ‘Tamasha’ on Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss was much speculated and the actor now says he had his “personal reasons” to miss the show.
Ranbir Kapoor, 33, is rumoured to be dating Salman’s ex-girlfriend Katrina Kaif. While Salman Khan is still friends with Katrina, he apparently does not share a good equation with Ranbir. Deepika, 29, was seen promoting “Tamasha” on the reality show and having a good time with the superstar host.
When asked about the reason for his absence, Ranbir Kapoor said: “Deepika and the marketing team thought ‘Bigg Boss’ is a big platform to promote the film. But I didn’t go for my own personal reasons.”
Salman Khan, 49, was seen in a supporting role in Ranbir’s Bollywood debut “Sawaariya” and made a cameo appearance in the latter’s “Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani”, which also starred Katrina. Ranbir, Deepika and Imtiaz Ali were in the capital to promote “Tamasha”. This is the second time Ranbir is collaborating with the director after their 2011 hit “Rockstar”, while it is Deepika’s third film with Imtiaz after “Love Aaj Kal” and “Cocktail”.
The Truth !!
Raveena Tandon
@TandonRaveena Let’s cut the BS-why can’t these people openly say that they weren’t happy since d day Modi became PM..instead of shaming the whole country
Superlike. WTG Raveena Tandon. Takes courage to speak up during these ‘intolerant’ times for people like RT and Anupam Kher. In all these khan controversies, it seems all three are united (salman, aamir, srk). Being celebs they should give out messages of peace in these ‘intolerant’ times no? They should take a leaf out of Akshay Khan opps Kumar and follow his lead. Focus on movies which can flourish only if they site positivity, integrity and maybe a bit of currently out of fashion patriotism. Add sone me suhaga instead of creating disturbing comments from their pali hill bunglows so that common man gets all disturbed and stops going to cinema. :- ))))))
Salman hasn’t said anything on this issue. If anything his father is a friend of Modi’s who’s supported the latter recently as well. Salman himself had a couple of positive comments.
On the rest I hope all those who are so upset will really stand up for principle and boycott all of SRK’s and Aamir’s films in the theater from now on..!
No… I didn’t think so..! So much for all the anger and indignation!
haha…you should start reading his tweets when he has a couple too many drinks. But overall I feel sorry for people in public lives. They all put foot in their mouths. The only person who is always sensible and treats the medium with utmost care is bigb. respect.
Actually Until yesterday I thought even Aamir was also always sensible .
he lost a lot of my respect.
P.S.- Kiran Rao is a commie and hangs out with the Kashyap gang, so that explains her bias., and biwi kee toh har kisi ko sinni padtee hai !!!
Never been a political person myself, but honestly I didn’t find anything anti indian in aamir s statement. He was not saying he is leaving the country he was just saying that it is unfortunate his wife had to even take up such an issue. Also the very fact that the guy gets trolled and abused on twitter by bjp supporters itself shows an intolerant side of things. And this whole repartee of please go to Pakistan if you say something has become something of a standard response from BJP.
This was a good read on this issue I thought. Unless modi keeps his foul mouthed god men in check people will continue to feel threatened.
And for god sake do not brand anyone as a congress supporter just because they dont support BJP on any issue. This is the point BJP is missing. Instead of having a constructive discussion with the people whether it is film stars or artists or historians, they are sweeping everyone under the same carpet by calling them congress supporters or anti BJP.
Yes I’d agree there’s nothing anti-Indian about it though this is an old political tactic (used by both the Right and Left) to make everything ‘anti-national’ and so on. However I do think he might have avoided that bit because it’s a strategic mistake. If you say that sort of thing people immediately pounce on it and avoid the real conversation. Clearly he wasn’t saying he was feeling personally threatened. It was more about not wanting to live in a certain kind of atmosphere (or this was the gist of what his wife probably meant). But notice the other bit of slippage here. I’ve commented on this before also. One doesn’t believe in the liberal Nehruvian idea of the state, one tries to deconstruct it at every turn, and then when there are these issues one uses the very same Nehruvian pluralistic state as ‘evidence’ of how India is beyond this stuff and so on! And so with respect to Aamir (or SRK) earlier if one says that this is the country that made them superstars well yes but ‘THIS’ is not the country folks on the Right otherwise consider a dream country. Precisely because the vast majority of Indians don’t believe in this sort of thing that it is possible for Muslim actors to become such top stars and retain that cultural currency for such a long time, despite all the other political and sociological changes during this time. This precisely is the Nehruvian dream. In his vision of India such things are possible. In that other vision all of this is simply disabled. This is why Pakistan keeps cropping up. This has always been the fantasy of the Right. A Hindu Pakistan in India. But in any case this oscillation is deeply cynical. It’s as if Donald Trump were questioned about his comments and he said the US was a strong multicultural society of immigrants! Yeah the very same setup he’s trying to destroy every single day! The difference is (and this gets back to my other point to Rajesh) that when we are immigrants in the US we find everyone from Palin to Trump very objectionable but when it’s back home in India we put blinkers on and then suddenly far more objectionable comments are somehow acceptable or excusable. Nonetheless, and to repeat the point, given the stakes in this sense Aamir could have avoided that comment. Because even for people who might be sympathetic to his position the idea that Aamir Khan is feeling that threatened (though he obviously didn’t mean it the way his attackers are presenting it) is less plausible.
You know what Z, they CANNOT say that. There is history there. They were forcibly brought here thru’ slavery system. But the rednecks will say that very easily to YOU…go back to Pakistan or whatever.
I am making this statement with a lot of thought-
As much as I despise Trump, and as bad as he may be – I can believe that he saw some people rejoicing after the destruction of twin tower, as I have myself witnessed in India – Indian Muslims celebrating upon Pakistan’s wins.
Even now- with less communal riots and deaths than ever before , a narrative is being built of intolerance because the present Govt. came to power with no support from minorities.
They feel their importance as a vote bank has diminished.
IT is not the minorities but the illiberal intellectuals who have created THIS tamasha! People like Shobha De and the “intellectuals”.
“Speaking of Iran, did you hear one of our conscientious intellectuals raise their voices for the poets Fatemeh Ekhtesari and Mehdi Mousavi who have been sentenced to receiving 99 lashes each for shaking hands with people of the opposite sex? No, you would not have. The Indian intellectual is a creature of selective outrage, so we did not hear voices raised either when Professor T J Joseph’s hand was chopped off by jihadists of Kerala’s Popular Front of India. He offended this Islamist military outfit because in their dreadful version of Islam, he had blasphemed their Prophet. Professor Joseph’s Islamic punishment did not make national headlines and was quickly forgotten because we in the media are as proudly ‘liberal’ as the award-returning intellectuals. So when was the last time you read a serious article on the ethnic cleansing of Pandits from the Kashmir valley?” http://indianexpress.com/article/opinion/columns/fifth-column-sahitya-akademi-protest-dadri-lynching-a-clash-of-ideologies/
Om, “I can believe that he saw some people rejoicing after the destruction of twin tower, as I have myself witnessed in India – Indian Muslims celebrating upon Pakistan’s wins.”
You think every media outlet wouldn’t be showing this all over the news channel and continue to show this today too if something like this happened. And he didn’t say 1 or 10 people, he said “THOUSANDS”…
What was shown on CNN was something which they took off the air because it was some place in palestine and that too was a video which was over 3 years old prior to 9/11. (of course the intended damage was already done in public eyes)
Also you logic doesn’t make sense. It’s one thing to root for team you may like for whatever the reason and another to root when over 3000 have died.
or are you saying saying you witnessed thousands of muslims celebrating when 26/11 happened?
A guy from Kolkata living in Mumbai roots for Kolkata knight riders is traitor of Mumbai?
Come on yaar, that’s unfair.
One of the problem I’m seeing is everybody is busy painting with broad brush.
And no, not getting ‘housing’ in Bombay as per Hashmi’s ‘experience’ doesn’t count much since it was more a life-style issue than RELIGION that counted toward the issue..
Next, I am waiting for the Thackerays to say something utterly stupid or vile and for the left to ‘jeer’ because hey, of course, 70% of Hindus in India just love them and their statements..
However, I do agree that Modi should take a leaf out Obama’s book and open up – remember, these are the days of ‘talking’ or returning mementos – otherwise the so-called liberals will continue this charade…
Modi is saying it actually. Just that we don’t hear it! He said it in wembley. And his stance has always been clear. Poor Modi. Ek aadmi. Maybe India deserves Italian mafia rule. hahah.
My recent experience with *aki taxi driver during one of my business trips was just the opposite…saale ne chu**ya bana diya…anyhow…good for Malloy…the driver cried his eyes out…wonder if he would have done that with me in back seat…lol…sad that the driver cried the whole time. It is time for him to go back to safer place I suppose…where there are no tears.
I support everything Aamir khan except that ‘leaving country’ comment. That was not required and could have been avoided and still the point made about intolerance. I don’t think that’s an option any normal person in India thinks at any point. That’s a statement that is very easily taken wrongly to be taken wrongly in a country like India.
Why should it be wrongly taken in India? Many Gujarati survivors left in 2002 and are settled in the west in countries like Canada.
Otherwise to Gujaratis and other Indians are all over. Why take Amir’s comment as though it’s a crime to say that?
Modi depends on these Indians who left India to shout Modi Modi Modi at his Rock concerts. LOL
Sikhs left Delhi too. Leaving is a choice one can make. Forcibly (partition) or by choice. However at this point two things are clear: (1) Kiran is dump (2) Aamir is dumber to bring bedroom conversations out in live television.
Just name one “Gujju” who left the country for that reason and not for money, better opportunities and have already been in immigration queue and that would be suffice to forget an old adage “Everything glitter is not gold”.
I’ve done that a few times in the past and those threads overtake everything. People think there’s now a space for this stuff and get hyperactive! here at least things can be controlled beyond a point! Ideally I would like to do that but then it becomes a political blog and the crazies come out.
“people..get hyperactive”. Satyam with your long comments, I would say you get the most hyper on these things. Relax. People are entertaining themselves. Its a tamasha. Politics. Showbiz.
meant to put this up yesterday but this from Bachchan’s blog:
“Almost 60 collective bottles of blood was pumped into me during my accident in ‘Coolie’ .. one infusion was carrying the dreaded virus Australian antigen Hep B .. it remained in my body and silently ate up my liver .. took away 75% of it until during a routine examination in the mid 2000′s, say around 2004 or 5, it was discovered .. I am now surviving on a 25% liver .. under constant medication and being labelled as a Chronic Cirrhosis of the Liver condition .. a condition normally described for alcoholics .. but as all know , I do not drink !!”
given all his ailments, all his medical issues his will is simply extraordinary. The high level of functionality he’s maintained for so many years, even at his age sleeping less than anyone else, being more busy than anyone else, it’s simply incredible. I wish he wouldn’t push himself so much, that’s another issue, but to be able to do it in the first place is awe-inspiring. And again he has lots of medical issues and has had some of these for decades.
Amitabh’s liver is down to 25% which is a scare. There are cases where people lived around 12% of liver but one never knows especially after 70 yrs of age. I think he should take it slowly and does very less work and prolong his life as long as he can. 😦
I was in India and near hospitals; There needs to be better protocol and sanitation condition in hospitals. Just wearing gloves doesn’t make thing right. Once you are done with one patient, the disposable gloves need to go in dustbin.
A decade earlier, My wifey was checked for blood before operation from one of the Top 5 hospitals in India, they had wrong rh factor.
Email management tools were supposed to make our lives better, but it’s getting worse. It gets worse: what happens if you fall too far behind? it happened few months ago aswell but keep an eye on it as what really did it…

The film will get a little help on Tuesday evening and Welnesday due to Guru Nanak Jayanti. It will be mainly in Delhi and Punjab but collections are low here. The second week will be around 24 crore.
They have CID, Adalat and Maharana Pratap…
Aside- Saw Phantom on BW Cinema- liked the movie , but no where close to D Day or Baby.
However it did not have the Afgan Jalebi song. I am curious to know if it was there in the theatrical version , or was it just a promotional song ??/

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo Day Eight Business

1 under performer and he shouldn’t direct again for a long time???
The guy has directed only 6 films in about 28 years so it’s not like he has a movie out every year. That’s 1 movie every 4+ years.
You can make a list of directors whose movie didn’t just under perform but were an outright flop and went on to make another hit movie.
Rakeysh Mehra made Bhaag mikha bhaag after flop delhi 6.
I’m sure Sooraj will bounce back but I assume he’ll make a small budget film instead of PRDP type.

actually Sooraj has a rather poor record after his first two films.

As I’ve told you many times before, you have to look at all the factors.
What genre is it, any competition, release period, what else is going on at that time, etc…
Naseeb wasn’t as big hit as Amar Akbar Anthony but it was still a hit, right?

Of course it can turn out that all the reports were off the mark but I will be really surprised if that’s the case specially because some of the friends I spoke to have decent taste

yes but an hour is still only 35-40% of the film.

I don’t doubt what the distributors/journalists saw but you can take good things out of 3 hour movie and make it 30 to 60 minute reel with all the good things in it. The key is what’s in those other 90 to 120 minutes.

It’s always courageous to speak your mind !

I Never Said India is Intolerant: Shah Rukh Khan
That’s a nuisance. Like that thing which blew up recently – I never said India is intolerant. When I was asked about it, I said I wouldn’t like talking about it, but when they insisted, I had just said that the youth should concentrate on making this a secular, progressive country. It is just that people like to believe what they want to believe. Misconstruing my words might or might not suit a particular political agenda, but I am annoyed because I didn’t mean what is being portrayed. I am an actor and make films. This is enough of a job. I am an icon because I can be what I am on screen

This is much more thoughtful and clear –

Now the big question is ‘Will Shah Rukh Khan top Salman’s yearly box office collections or won’t he?’, only 2016 will tell….”

why does it have to be that extreme (Taliban or ISIS) for people to fear for their kids??

Akshay Kumar: Airlift evacuation of Indians ought to be in textbooks – See more at: http://indianexpress.com/article/entertainment/bollywood/airlift-evacuation-of-indians-ought-to-be-in-textbooks-akshay-kumar/#sthash.2cxA957K.dpuf
ctor Akshay Kumar feels that the real-life story of his upcoming film “Airlift”, based on the biggest evacuation operation of Indians in Kuwait during the 90s when Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussain invaded his neighbouring country, deserves to find a mention in textbooks.

Friday – 3,85,00,000
Saturday – 5,25,00,000
Sunday – 6,50,00,000
TOTAL – 15,10,00,000
Despite the drop in the second week the film is still a HIT due to the huge shares in week one. The film will hit the 100 cr share mark before the second week is out.

Thursday – 2,00,00,000
Friday – 6,00,00,000
Saturday – 7,00,00,000
Sunday 7,75,00,000
TOTAL – 22,75,00,000

Unless modi keeps his foul mouthed god men in check people will continue to feel threatened.
http://www.firstpost.com/india/a-stitch-in-time-saves-nine-aamir-khans-statement-is-neither-hyperbolic-nor-motivated-2519412.html

So when was the last time you read a serious article on the ethnic cleansing of Pandits from the Kashmir valley?”

Kamal Hassan had talked about Leaving India. So had Asha Bhosle. No one burned their effigy, threatened them. India was bit tolerant then
