Wth!! The guy is nearly touching 50 but still looking like the guy next door! Credit here to Kajol too and her waist is doing full justice to that skirt…….. or are these simply touched up!

You never know this may just catch the fancy of nostalgia driven fans during the holiday period ringing humongous box-office receipts at the turnstile.

Incidentally the front page of this blog now has 3-Ace pics of bollywood stalwarts in a row! Each one better than the other.

  5. 18th December! Not a holiday release and 1st holiday apart from Sunday is its 8th day on 25th December. Interesting to see what it can get to. If the WOM is not good then releasing on 25th would be more beneficial and you get lot of money back in 10 days. But if WOM is very good then 18th Dec can be proven beneficial provide BM is moved from 18th Dec.

But I feel Bajirao Mastani is no ordinary movie, the scale, grandeur and everything will prove its more of an event movie than Dilwale.

    • Content will determine in the end but purely from an opening point of view, Bajirao Mastani will be no match for Dilwale. I am pretty sure SB will move it to a different date in any case.

Fantastic pic!!! This couple has the magic that can still pull the audience like DDLJ. I’m sure this will be very big at boxoffice and biggest hit of the career of all related to it. As a movie one can’t say anything before hand because neither Shetty nor Srk has done anything remarkable in the past but here they may surprise. Looking forward to this one.

  7. They look great together as always. I wonder what releasing it on Dec 18th instead of the 25th means. I mean with the 25th, SRK would get the biggest first day ever but by releasing it on the 18th I get the feeling that he is targeting lifetime records and also that he is more confident in this film than HNY. Wonder if BM will move or not. I think SLB’s ego is too big to move. Best case scenario, he will come on the 25th but I bet SRK will hold onto all the screens like he did in 2013 with CE vs OUATIMD. Also, these 2 pics of SRK-Kajol have already generated more hype than the overrated Ranveer-Deepika jodi has in the last 2 years.

    • Why, have a younger couple been announced as part of the cast?

    • It would have become Chennai Express part 2. Just hero-heroine(2 characters) stories are very difficult to write especially original content. CE did everything which could be done in that space. Also, I’m surprised that Rohit pulled of CE greatly with so minimal characters and 1 line story as he’s always done multi-starers through out his career and now with Dilwale, he’s back to his old style with multi starcast and magnitude of actors including supporting actors like Boman Irani, Johnny Lever, Vinod Khanna, Kabir Bedi etc..

  10. This looks very promising. SRK-Kajol are such a classic couple. And after the surprisingly good Chennai Express and the horrendously bad Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Rohit Shetty seems a much more apt choice to resurrect this pairing than the Chopras or even KJo.

  11. SRK-Kajol looked very stale in MNIK. Rohit Shetty is the X factor here. If he comes up with the right ingredients and the entertaining parts (he is very good at it), then it should do well. I expect lots of comedy, some action scenes with the usual Shetty stunts, good old romance from SRK-Kajol for the more mature audience, then the Varun-Kriti romantic portions for the younger generation. He will probably add some emotional bits focusing on the 2 brothers.

I think Shetty will try to bring all these on board while trying to strike the right balance.

Not going to be any kind of masterpiece. It’s going to be an out-and-out commercial deal. Surpassing HNY’s total isn’t going to be a big deal. But going past Chennai Express does seem to be the real target here.

    • Gone are the days when a SRK-Kajol multi-starrer with a renowned director doesn’t aim to be biggest film around? I suspect career wise, this could is SRK’s last major spin with his most tried and trusted leading lady. Project wise, MNIK was a farce as it was never going to be taken seriously especially with Johar at the helm.

Here, commercially everything is set up. The cast, the director, early posters…the nostalgia of the title and anniversary of DDLJ. The film will be an entertainer too. The release date is the plum Xmas date. Bhansali’s film poses a threat but some sense will surely prevail even there. Kajol reunited with SRK after some 7 years – but really in this kind of film, its 14 years since K3G when they would have been seen in this kind of family drama, entertainer call it what you want.

Everything suggests this is SRK’s moment of glory and we are aiming for CE!

I think we can shift the dial up a notch and set our sights on D3 at least.

At least everything about this project, the way it’s been accelerated ahead of Raess / Fan suggests this one is all about the box office! And if HNY set early day records, this one should literally obliterate everything before by some distance.

      • agreed on all counts.. unless of course Bhansali still brings his film on that date and cuts into the gross. But it certainly seems to be the case that SRK is trying very hard to get a big one and create some breathing room for himself for Fan and Raees (Nawazuddin here in place of Farhan now). Not a bad strategy. with Raees he even has a Pakistani actress on board to get the overseas numbers a bit stronger than they would normally be for this sort of genre! In any case CE-like initial and trending should certainly put Dilwale in 250 crore range. the one thing though is CE was all about the lead pair. They were there throughout. Shetty has to ensure that here as well. Can’t be too much of Varun Dhawan if SRK-Kajol aren’t going to be around in those scenes as well. Of course one can understand why the younger actor is there. The nostalgia crowd is also a much older one! You need to get a much younger demographic excited as well. I still think SRK made the wrong move here. As always with him there isn’t sincerity about these things. He certainly can get a big one here but it’s very unlikely to be the ‘biggest’ or in that sort of stratosphere. Just judging from Shetty’s track record including CE. The point is that if SRK is getting together with Kajol in a film why not attempt something a bit more meaningful? It doesn’t have to be Yashraj’s sleep-inducing brand of romance (JTHJ or whatever). But it doesn’t have to be Shetty either. There could be something in between, strong on narrative that trends very well even if it doesn’t have the biggest opening day or something. Admittedly there isn’t an obvious director around to handle this task but my point is that this is still a wholly cynical attempt to just get the numbers. Nothing wrong with it except that SRK still doesn’t have a long term plan. It’s easy to see what Salman’s plan is. Milk his current phase for as long as possible. WIth Aamir again there’s been a project-centric plan for a long time (though this is not just about getting the numbers in one film or the other.. in other words he might do some films for the numbers but they have to make sense to him otherwise as well.. he wouldn’t do just anything for a big gross). With SRK it’s about whatever director gets the job done. Farah Khan or Shetty or whoever. Shetty is the chosen one these days because of his obvious track record and of course CE was SRK’s best such moment since OSO in 2007. He clearly hoped for HNY to do this once more so that he could then move on to Fan and Raees. That didn’t happen so he suddenly pulled out a Shetty one more time. All of this is about survival and remaining an important star. To that extent this is fine. But it also means continuing loss of relevance. In some ways the best thing for SRK in recent years have been Salman’s resurgence. Although between him and Aamir he’s been sandwiched in certain ways the ‘Khan’ label also perversely helps him (no such label around in the 90s when it might have helped the other two!). But in any case and to repeat the point SRK has rather royally mishandled his career after 2007’s OSO/CDI double. Just a whole lot of poor choices one way or the other. Specially with his history and standing he could have done a whole lot more. In a day and age where a Tanu sequel gets to 150 it’s not the end of the world if a SRK-Kajol film with Shetty gets even a 100 more. Either the bar should be way higher or else he gets his big one without making a very big point. And here if he got to a D3-like gross or something he would have made the effort truly worthwhile (specially since Salman is in no danger of getting to that range.. unless something surprising happens with one of his releases.. or the Barjatya film does something special on trending after all these years).

With Dilwale release date announced, I doubt any distributor / exhibitor is going to permit Bajirao to release within two weeks of Dilwale either up or down. Even a Dec 11 release now becomes suspect presuming it’s an expensive film and too much at stake for Bajirao to opt for anything but coming solo. BM is being backed by Eros so I am guessing srk being close to them must have sounded them adequately. This isn’t Diwali festive period where pockets run deep to permit 2 movies within the same time frame to the families. With Tamasha on Nov 28 and Deepika being the common factor to both, in all likelihood this is going for a 2016 release since even a Dec 04 is not possible.

On Rohit , Dilwale is being publicized as comedy-drama film. Its such a huge cast with Johny Lever thrown to the mix this is going to be a huge potboiler. Don’t know if he has a good support staff / backing of writers but I am amazed at his logistical acumen in getting his act together and he invariably keeps coming up with coherent, clean cut harmless fun with very Indian jokes. For me Golmal 3 is probably his best in terms of wacky comedy and each member of the ensemble cast fits in perfectly. Its one of those movies, one can pick at any point and start watching. It isn’t surprising to note the movie has a lot of reruns on TV. It falls in the category of Hungama / No Entry / Hera Pheri in mad cap series of huge cast. Though never liked his Bol Bachan when it released but the movie hasn’t aged badly and pretty much enjoy the colorful reruns on TV there too.

Both of those movies will not break any records and will be WOM oriented. I think what he did makes business sense. And any sensible star will do that. I dont think Aamir would have gone into Dangal straight after Talaash. There was a reason why he did D3 after Talaash.
And on Mahira Khan, she is a one film old actress from Pakistan. SRK will be more famous than her even in Pakistan. Having Farhan instead of Nawaz would have helped more overseas than having Mahira in it. Either ways I dont think Raees will be a overseas attractive movie. Fan can be though.
I agree with a lot of what you say otherwise. I doubt this will have legs too. And there was some talk of RS making a movie based on Hum. Not sure if this is THAT movie. All said and done, I am more happy with SRK working with RS and FAn and raees than working with Farah and KJo.

“There was a reason why he did D3 after Talaash”

Yes it was legitimately set out that way. It was not manoeuvred in any way. It was not as if Aamir played around with his films or re-ordered them.

With SRK it was clear Fan and Raess was slated for this year but everything changed post HNY/PK.

“I dont see a problem in SRK fast tracking Dilwaale so that he has some sure footing before the relatively risky ‘Fan’ and ‘Raees’”

I guess JTHJ (Yash Chopra), CE (Rohit Shetty) and HNY (Farah Khan) is not enough sure footing? Those are SRK’s last 3 releases. What if Dilwaale fails? Does he need to bring another film to protect Fan/Raess? I think this is perfectly explained either by Kajal’s dates or quite simply SRK is feeling the box office pressure provided by his 2 namesakes.

All of this strategy on when to release, how many releases, commercial vs. risk etc. The only strategy that really works is a good film. And quite possibly Fan and Raess sound like potentially “better” films than Dilwaale.

“Aamir would have gone into Dangal straight after Talaash”

So are you comparing Talaash with HNY?

I think SRK had plenty of commercial recently, what you are probably trying to say in so many words is they haven’t seen the success one would have expected!

          Like

        • Yes, HNY underperformed vis-a-vis its expectations, irrespective of the final verdict. And JTHJ was also an under performer. CE was an over performer. Its possible that Dilwaale was pushed ahead because of the underperformance of HNY. He would have seen the script, spotted an opening and taken that. I dont see it as anything wrong. For a star there is always pressure to deliver numbers. Its a strategy which may or may not work but it sounds logical to me.

        • “With SRK it was clear Fan and Raess was slated for this year but everything changed post HNY/PK.”

This is actually wrong even though everyone believe it to be true. Rohit Shetty’s film was always gonna release between Fan and Raees(SRK mentioned in an interview and makes perfect business sense). The only issue happened now FAN genuinely got delayed for its VFX as it could have perfect Aug release and Dilwale year end release. Now, Fan and Raees will actually release one after the other. That was never the plan.

        • A lot of stuff that is said in the media in these matters sometimes has to be decoded. Put differently no star will ever say or has ever said that he or she fast-tracked a film or delayed it simply for practical reasons or to get a winner out first or something. it’s always about how unpredictable factors or completely understandable reasons or whatever. No star ever says anything other than this. Much as when films are reshot again no one ever admits to anything negative. They give it a positive gloss. That’s just the nature of the beast. After CE it’s fair to say that SRK wanted another film with Shetty but this was suddenly pushed to the top of the pack after HNY. And again whatever is said in the media is almost never the whole story. If Fan or Raees were films in the blockbuster mould do you honestly think he would have delayed them? I’ll also say this, everything’s riding on dilwale. In all probability it will be a success and a big grosser. But if for any reason it underperforms I’d be surprised if Fan and Raees release back to back. A star cannot always completely control these things, sometimes there are genuine problems, at other times he might want delays or something and it isn’t possible for other reasons. But even when this stuff does happen no one ever admits it. Not the stars, not anyone else.

Just SRK doesn’t announce his home productions much in advance but SRK-Rohit next film has been always announced right after CE, the way Singham Returns was done during CE. SRK also mentioned that Rohit likes to release film every year and he doesn’t want to keep him waiting as he has another movie with Karan Johar in 2016(Ram Lakhan).

Again.. SRK had 3 films after HNY – Fan, Dilwale and Raees. Fan shooting is already completed and only that is postponed coz of post-production. Next would always be Dilwale and then Raees next year.

Also I think I do understand the media twist and all cover up stories as much as you understand. But now you want to believe that Aditya Chopra postponed FAN and Dilwale became his next release as part of larger plan. Obviously if there was nothing planned for year end, FAN would have taken that Christmas spot but if there is movie already planned, FAN is moving to next year April.

        • In any movie industry depending on personal relationships and/or power equations people ‘oblige’ each other all the time. What gets reported in the media is true in every respect (i.e. the story is true on the facts and contextually true as well) I’d say no more than 10-20% of the time. And if you have other sources of information you can decode some of this stuff but you can’t do so only by relying on these stories. But again leave all of this aside.. how many examples do you know where films are pushed up or back, where films are delayed for negative reasons, etc etc.. and the stars actually admit this? How often does this happen with any facet of this business? Films go through casting changes, even these things are either not admitted or when they are the directors pretend the final casting was the best possible decision and what not. It’s just a business premised entirely on spin. Much like politics. The paradox here is that in neither case is the ‘truth’ just about the spin (people often make this mistake). But it is always presented in the language of spin. Have you ever seen politicians on TV? In India or anywhere else? you can ask them any question on any issue, no matter how sensational or controversial it is they’ll come up with a very prosaic, common-sense sort of response. One could never ever guess the business of politics from the way it’s presented in the media. The same is true for the movies. Again not just in India (though Hollywood is run far more professionally these things happen there as well). What you’re saying on this particular subject makes ‘sense’ but so does everyone else on every other such subject. Just on the blogosphere people pick up on media clues and construct completely plausible narratives in each of these scenarios.

Speaking of Aditya Chopra why would SRK consider him the go-to guy as he once did? What’s he done for him lately? He didn’t direct a film for years. When he did RNBDJ was hardly the sort of pulse film people had seem from them in the past (though it did very well it was easily overshadowed by Ghajini even on that score), then again nothing. JTHJ did poorly, even VZ after a very strong start didn’t have the best trending by the standards of that time. Aditya Chopra was involved in all of these projects (did the script for VZ for example.. even otherwise and irrespective of who was officially directing those films he had a great deal of control over them). And to add insult to injury their biggest franchise had Aamir, not SRK. This involving the team that did DDLJ! And even now what’s there on the horizon? Stuff like Fan. Where’s that big winner that any actor would agree to do with Aditya Chopra and that SRK wouldn’t refuse either? Fan is hardly an indispensable film for him. Rohit Shetty meanwhile has been delivering. With every star as a matter of fact. The same with Johar. KANK didn’t work out nor did MNIK (overseas of course both were big, KANK opened hugely in India, MNIK didn’t even do this). So again Johar is now making a film with Ranbir after quite sometime. Here SRK has probably moved away from him more than the opposite. These guys are powerful producers but if a star isn’t being greatly benefited one way or the other the rest isn’t a big deal. And Fan even for Aditya Chopra is hardly a film on which his banner is riding. forget D3, he’s not even down the ETT kind of deal with SRK.

I don’t think he considers its a Ra.One moment for him to redeem himself with Rohit Shetty film. The film was always on the cards and in any perfect business scenario – releasing 1 big commercial between 2 off beat make sense than releasing them back to back which will happen now next year.

Khans don’t want to release along each other sides and bring bad publicity and fights everywhere including business loss. Last 2 Aamir films, no one would have done it coz they were simply the biggest films around. Though Anees Bazmee had to fight with producer to postpone Welcome Back against clashing with PK.

When Aamir himself realized the movie is not a perfect Christmas release and not big money spinner, he advanced Talaash to Nov 30 release and not Christmas release in 2012 inspite it was an Aamir release after 3 years post 3I, baring Dhobi ghat appearance.

Any big film can easily be released against Dangal without getting damaged. Obviously Salman and SRK won’t do it for person reasons but I could see an Akhshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn or some Hera Pheri 3 kind of film release which could be marketed better for festival release than an uplifting Dangal kind of film.

    • Yes, Dangal is not a Jurassic World… But it is a biopic of a man , wrestler Mahavir Phogat who is shown at age 55 mostly, and for a shorter duration aged 27 and slimmer. And Aamir hopes to lose as much as weight as possible from Jan to May, before shooting for the younger character, through June 2016. The man is producing the film, housing the girls in his old apartment in Bandra, mentoring four girls through their diet and haryanvi and wrestling classes…. A lot of trouble being taken, so let’s not dismiss Aamir’s efforts.

But Dilwale will be sureshot hit. Only problem for its trending will be BM which seems to be an intense romantic film with 2 leading ladies.

BM has been postponed till mid 2016 as lot of shooting is pending. Since its lead actors have other engagements as well, it has become impossible for the makers to release it on scheduled date. As the film being a costly affair it can’t be released in March or April 2016 due to IPL and hence mid August 2016 is the target now.

Dilwale is going to be a solo release on 18th December. But I wonder why they have chosen 18th instead of 25th? On Christmas day they might create record single day collections which seems unlikely on 18th. Still happy for Kajol as I want her film to create new bench marks at boxoffice. For me she’s the best actor ever among female leads.

  18. NO DDLJ TRAIN SEQUENCE IN ROHIT SHETTY’S DILWALE

Recently, reports were coming that Rohit will shoot a romantic sequence for Dilwale with SRK and Kajol, much on the lines of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’s iconic train scene. This news made fans gaga over the movie as DDLJ train sequence is one of the most loved and remembered scenes in Bollywood till date.

However if a source close to the film is to be believed, the makers have no such plans. They are not re-creating the train sequence magic of DDLJ in Dilwale. The source said, ”Dilwale is a fresh film with a fresh plot and hence, the makers have decided to not have any such scene which will remind people of DDLJ or other SRK films. These rumours have circulated because some saw a still showing Kajol getting out of a tram in Bulgaria and this led to speculations. However, there is no such scene in the film.”

  19. Its a bit too simplistic approach but worth a read –

“.. can’t deny the fact that both the films will impact each other’s business if they release together, but to what extent, is something everybody needs to put some serious thought to! The screens and shows will be divided and thus, the potential opening net capacity for both the films would be reduced drastically compared to a solo release. However on the flipside, the theory that the stronger of the two films will crush the other is absolutely baseless and silly! Films that have meritorious content can certainly co-exist at the cinemas simultaneously and more so, do extremely well in the entirety of their respective runs! All it takes is a change of perspective – to look at the macro level scenario of the film’s lifetime collections (which is what eventually matters) rather than chase the record for the highest opening weekend collections (which is nothing more than an irrelevant rat race)”.

Lulla discussed a potential collaboration on SRK’s film. Eros is co-producer of SLB’s Bajirao Mastani and a collaboration with Shah Rukh over Dilwale could sort out the issue of the release date clash between the two films.”

    Like

    • I think it matters in sense, if Dilwale clicks with audience and BM doesn’t than whatever Dilwale makes from 18th to 24th is bonus. And then from 25th it will be free run.

I think SLB will surprise people with BM. There’s no way him and distributors put up a huge cost movie against SRK masala movie unless they’re very confident of their product (SLB was burned before during OSO/Sawariya, you would think he wouldn’t make same mistake again unless he is fully confident)

      Like

      • Confidence has nothing to do with SLB, he’s confident every time. Its his ego and he don’t like backing out..also he is not interested in final collections.. he is just interested to put his movie out to public not worry about the boxoffice returns much.

    • Controversial BJP MP Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday compared Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan to Pakistani terrorist Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of Mumbai carnage, over his ‘extreme intolerance’ comment, in the second attack on the actor by a BJP leader in as many days, sparking condemnation.

In another controversial remark, Adityanath, the MP from Gorakhpur, said Shah Rukh should remember that if a ‘huge mass’ of people in the country would boycott his films then he would also have to wander on streets like a ‘normal Muslim’.

“Shah Rukh Khan should remember that if a huge mass in society would boycot his films, he will also have to wander on streets like a normal Muslim….I am saying these people are speaking in a terrorist’ language. I think there is no difference between the language of Shah Rukh Khan and Hafiz Saeed,” he said. “We welcome that people go there (Pakistan), at least people who defame India will understand their own originality,” he added.

    • Well he hasn’t purposely created it but he’s also not unaware of what he’s doing. In other words it’s one thing to say something and be willing to live with the consequences and quite another to ‘calculate’ how much it might or might not work for one. For all sorts of reasons I’m actually pleased he said what he did. Even if it’s half-cynical it is useful within this context or to my mind it serves a greater ‘good’. But this is different from saying he’s a saint who’s just said what he needed to as a very pure gesture. By the way I also know that for a number of years now religion has in some sense been important to him. He’s much more actively concerned with it in certain ways. So it’s not that I think he’s making it up just for attention. But in public life you can use even these sorts of gestures to your advantage. Not because you don’t believe in those things. You very well might but there is this bonus that you get out of it. Which incidentally to my mind is not something crude like more attention for the film or something. SRK wasn’t depending on this controversy to get big numbers for a Rohit Shetty film! but he’s also a public figure beyond the pure gross and ‘relevance’ isn’t only about box office numbers.

Satyam.. just watch the video interview before understanding the issue. It was asked by the interviewer 2-3 times is there intolerance in India now.. and then he said yes I know there is intolerance but if we say something it’ll create controversy.. so its better to be quiet and away from this and concentrate on making movies. If you take that out of context.. anything can be created as news.

        Like

        • I’ve seen every minute of that interview. If you’re not aware of it let me break the news to you. this sort of interview doesn’t come up unless SRK wants to talk about a certain subject. These interviews are all pre-arranged at many levels. It’s not just a spontaneous conversation that comes up! later on he was with Rajdeep Sardesai and he was saying similar things. People say things that they want to. Even when cornered if they don’t wish to say those things they can be evasive in all sorts of ways. But that situation doesn’t even arise here because such an interview doesn’t come about accidentally.

I’d say lastly that like most other fans you too are unable to separate the star’s screen life from his offscreen one. This whole spiel of giving the star credit for every single thing in the world or trying to provide the best possible spin on any and every action gets a bit tiring. And I’m not even criticizing him. I just said I’m glad he said what he did. That doesn’t mean I’m naive about this stuff.

      • I’d say one more thing here, while SRK wades into a lot of these controversies (many of which I have found quite objectionable in the past inasmuch as he flirts with the pakistan angle to ‘appease’ a certain base.. note how many of the appalling things that the BJP is saying about him is also stuff he tends to flirt with.. even in this Barkha Dutt interview he says his mother is from Hyderabad and his father is from Pakistan.. there is a certain ‘code’ here.. first off there are many whose family members came from areas that are part of Pakistan.. Dilip Kumar, the Kapoors, Bachchan’s mother and so on.. but to say that they are ‘from’ Pakistan is to indulge in an anachronism.. but beyond this when he gives these deliberately mixed signals as he has in the past on Pakistan when it comes to cricket and otherwise he confirms a certain anti-Muslim — in India — narrative.. which I think is simply not acceptable given the politics of this situation.. one doesn’t have to be a fan of the disgusting Yogi Adityanath and others like him to state that there is a sensitive archive in this sense which should not be tampered with irresponsibly..) he doesn’t go as far as the media and the liberal class gives him credit for. His statements are on the whole still relatively gentle. Yes it’s more than what many others are willing to go (and that’s a discredit to them) but it’s not as if he’s being utterly heroic in saying something no one else is. People in far more vulnerable positions than him have said a whole lot more. One might not agree with them, one might hate their politics or whatever but they have made much bolder statements. So a lot of this has to be put into context. And it’s all fairly obvious too. To be absolutely clear this doesn’t mean that I accept any of anti-minority shenanigans from the Right or what have you. At the same time when there are political minefields one should be careful about what one is doing and the stakes are too high in certain matters for one to be even half-cynical.

If there was a movie releasing on 11th then a break would work but this coming after a good gap ( last release Tamasha on 29th Nov )

Overseas its a no brainer. The reason srk takes these ‘bhund panga’ is the overseas collections itself makes his movies utterly safe. The chances of losing on a movie are very rare from production point of view.

And his excess has become just tiresome by this point (liked his Saawarya at some levels though.. among the recent films). Secondly and even though this is the best Ranveer look so far I just don’t believe he has the gravitas for this part. Still this is a lesser issue. The larger one is Bhansali. Shetty will probably keep Dilwale entertaining at the very least. Not that I;m necessarily rushing out for this one either. But it’s an easy one between those two for me. And the Bhansali I probably wouldn’t watch even as a solo release. Then again I watch very few Hindi releases any more. At any level. Probably no more than 10% if that.

I realized.. there is not a single long scene. Majority of the scenes are just lasting seconds.. and it has too many scene breakups and the pacing is so fast and dialogues are so different.. inspite loving old Golmaal(classic one) this one is still entertaining and constant ride. If Dilwale is somewhere near to BB with SRK and Kajol.. it can do wonders IMO.

By underpromoting Dilwale he has also ensured less eyeballs for BM. Had he overpromoted Dilwale, BM would have got mentioned in most articles etc. by virtue of the fact that it was clashing. It’s a good move, the audience doesn’t need alot of convincing to see Dilwale, they know what they’re getting with a Rohit Shetty film, but BM needs to win over it’s audience i think.

        • By not over-promoting and also not looking for 1st day records and releasing on regular Friday (and weekend) instead of Dec 25th Holiday, SRK appears confident of the movie to sustain and go for the long run.

Also, the numbers won’t be big. Its been a long since big film released on regular weekend and that too with another big movie releasing with it. This isn’t even like SIK vs JTHJ which released next day of Diwali.

        • Not sure SRK being confident in a film means much! SRK doesn’t have great script sense. I’m actually more confident in Kajol, her films tend to be good at least from what I’ve seen of her in the twilight of her career, it’s more her presence to me that suggests that theres a bit more to this than just the usual Rohit Shetty stuff.

#Dilwale *TRAILER* certified 12A by British censors on 5 November 2015. Approved run time: 3 min 19 sec.

    • Wait 12A? Is that like PG-13 in the U.S.? I’d think a rohit shetty/SRK film would get the British equivalent of a PG rating…must be the action scenes. Also 3 min is looong I remember HNY’s trailer was this long as well…

  42. I find this venture quite stale actually, born less out of conviction, and more out of convenience. Rohit Shetty did all his previous films with Ajay Devgan, and then went on to do a masala film with SRK – which did well. So he knew he had access to both camps and could get SRK-Kajol together. I don’t find the casting a coup, though Rohit Shetty might feel so. It’s like bringing Juhi and Aamir together. What’s the point? I hope he has some real script to show here, and is not merely banking on his leads to pull this through.

  43. This is so surprising to see. Srk was the one who started trend of 2 months promotion and PR exercise before release(Remember Don?, first movie to be promoted on such huge scale before and after release). And now we see him coming back to basic release promotion of trailer one month before.

  44. Terrible. Most Terrible teaser logo ever. What is it? But satyam looks super excited posting these D poster and teasers. Disappointing thing is that theme music in bg was plain bad.

Rohit is adding the required class to the massy product.

  49. so now it’s making sense.

First poster was the ice berg D and first teaser was related to it.

Second poster was D with car parts in it and second teaser is Car drifting.

I assume the third mini teaser will have some sort of actions in it.

  50. Don’t blame us. The lead star of the film, Shah Rukh Khan, is calling it the ‘Half Look’ poster of Dilwale.

He tweeted “Our Director Rohit not allowing us to reveal our first look. So v have outsmarted him by releasing only Half a Look.”

  52. None of the Dilwale promotional material up till now has been outstanding or even, tbh, good. But yet, I wouldn’t be surprised if the imvestors of Bajirao Mastani in the next few days announce the film is going to be postponed, maybe till new years day.

From twitter and fb at least all I can see is Dilwale hype, even today on twitter, this new Dilwale poster blew the BM poster out of the water, as far as trends go, that is. Bajirao Mastani is getting appreciation though aswell from its own Deepika fan base and those who promise to see ‘better cinema than Rohit Shettys brand’ but I think the BM distributors are going to have problems getting an equal screen count in multiplexes, the majority of single screens are going to go for Dilwale and this is going to cause an issue for BM! I just feel that this is not a clash of ‘equals’ (unlike say Raees vs Sultan or Shivaay vs Ae Dil hai mushkil), one party is going to start out severely disadvantaged, how then can they clash?

    • BM already has a lot of single screen locked as past of Bajrangi Bhaijaan contract by Eros. Dilwale is at disadvantage as far as single screen is concerned but in multiplex, dilwale will blow BM by distance.

I don’t think either film will back down, at this point it will be huge ego defeat if either one back down.

If both films are accepted, both will do good. Of course neither will be huge because there will be loss due to competition.

  55. An extremely extremely average trailer imo. It does look grand and big budget as do all SRK films but the comedy seems lame and nothing new. SRK’s dialogue delivery seems to improve with every film and I think Varun Dhawan could steal the show with the comedy. Hopefully there is more focus on the Varun-SRK drama and SRK-Kajol moments rather than the OTT comedy. But to be fair, all of Rohit Shetty’s trailers are worse than the film. The music sounds like it will be a huge chartbuster.

Than we can keep Dilwale at top from 11/20 to 01/01/2016 since most of comments will be on that with new trailers/news coming out on it.
