How did I miss this gem! The guy is trapped in his own stardom, just cant get out of that bubble, however hard he keeps trying.

“I want to do different roles. So, I decided that from the age of 50-55, I want to do 15 very nice films and that will include popular films, offbeat films, mad films and many more. I will do many different films. I want to do three films a year. Ek film main mann ke liye karna chahta hu, ek tann ke liye aur ek dhan ke liye (I want to do one film for the heart, one to test my physical capability and one for money)”

  6. Still feel Dilwale, by far, looks his safest bet to gross something big. Sure, Fan and Raees may still end up surprising many with huge collections. But, I feel that they are more likely to end with underwhelming totals. Raees especially is going to find it very tough against Sultan.

Good to see SRK trying different things. His loverboy avatar had started looking quite stale lately, except for the odd Chennai Express. And dear me, it was looking very stale in Jab Tak Hain Jaan.

Ideally shouldn’t react so such silly comments.. but its about a Superstar and his fan. SRK was a ‘superstar 10-15 yrs ago and he is still one! You would be a fool to deny that he isn’t one and doesn’t have still huge fan following!

This kind of worshipping with king tag used to be very popular in media 10-15 yrs back and became synonym with him for couple of years but doesnt exist anymore other than in the hearts of few die hard srkian including usual suspects like satyam 😏

Again, if you keep little brain you’ll realize that videos are during the Fan’s growing years.. from childhood to adult. It is 20 growing years for the FAN along side the Superstar. So, they need to show that time’s footage, isn’t it? Well.. if you get it.. you wouldn’t be a hater!

You can even put a failure actor like Abhishek on street of Mumbai today and there will be frenzy of crowd surrounding him in matter of few seconds.

everybody knows there’s no bigger srk hater than satyam but I think you have a great point here.

Satyam has single handedly kept srk in news on this blog. I thought Sarah Palin was being paid by democratic party for being so out of touch of reality. I seriously think this blog/satyam is funded by srk 🙂

        • though all of these comments are too non-serious to get into this whole ‘hater’ discourse is something that is deeply opportunistic and beyond this deeply problematic for ideological reasons. First off there’s nothing wrong in ‘hating’ anyone! Secondly everyone hates someone or the other. It’s not as if SRK fans ‘love’ all other stars! So this ‘hater’ discourse is employed selectively. But also it’s a tool meant to seal off opposition to whoever one is a fan of (SRK, Modi… note how the Modi fans respond to those who criticize him.. hey you returned your award because you ‘hated’ him anyway.. etc). Put differently if you call someone a ‘hater’ you try to inoculate your favorite from all criticism. You then don’t have the responsibility of responding with a different argument. You just use ‘hater’ as a cuss-word and move on. Which is the game everyone else also plays over time.

From my perspective I am supremely uninterested in this word for another reason as well. If for instance someone ‘hates’ abhishek that fact is of no interest to me. What I am interest in is the ‘form’ that negativity takes. Because that tells me something more about all sorts of things.

On Fan itself (though I haven’t seen this latest trailer yet.. but then I don’t see many trailers these days.. I’ve only seen one so far of PDRP) I’d reintroduce an older point here. For SRK his journey for many years has involved asserting his ‘stardom’ in the face of opposition from all kinds of stars. When it became clear soon enough that he couldn’t just do it by the numbers he started playing this other game of somehow insisting on his singularity. And so from the ‘Im-like-Bachchan’ syndrome (still ongoing by the way.. he thinks it’s just a question of doing enough Don sequels!) to this sort of move (Fan) there is that sense of constantly having to ‘assert’ something. This isn’t what Salman is doing (or Aamir). One could point to some other examples too. But this ties in with another point that Qalandar perhaps first mentioned over here and that I agree with. Irrespective of box office realities, and somewhat paradoxically, stars also account for their own psychological demons all the time. It doesn’t matter whether these responses are more or less defensible. But they define how the star makes career choices, how he (or she) responds to success or failure. And so on.

Incidentally your Abhishek example contradicts your larger point. So if SRK always has fans around because even Abhishek has them (in your narrative) well then SRK by resorting to this sort of moment isn’t really proving what he thinks he is!

There really didn’t show much, I mean nothing which tells us much about the story of the movie. They showed that this kid is a big fan of a Aryan Khanna, that’s about it. I hope there’s more to movie than just that.

You’r 100% mistaken when you brand me a Srk fan. Neither in past I was a Srk fan nor right now. I always love good cinema. I liked first fan teaser but not this one. I am simply a cinema lover and not a fan of particular star. Z,
as I can the same thing about you hating amitabh and his family…you seems to think that bollywood become alive since srk came in film industry…I do not think so…he was once a monopoly actor but not now,srk fans must realise that he is hardly 300cr box-office breaker, your argument will be same again here as what has amitabh done…he is not in khans league as i said it before so save your self bother here, srk needs to match salman and amir khan as his so called monpoly is broken,he is even no longer overseas record-breaker…

why are srk fans thing that he still baap of all khans…he is and has been” king of khan…I am just loving it to wind srk fans and remind them that his last few films have been just crap…any of his last few films did touch 300cr,nope because he is in 200cr level

I don’t hate Amitabh and his family, it’s just like giving you taste of your own medicine.

True, SRK is at 200 crore level but kindly point out which bacchan family grossed 200 crore in solo or lead role (no, Dhoom3 and HNY didn’t feature abhi as a lead)

Please , I ask again, point out to me where I said SRK is king and that he is above salman/aamir.

you need a visit to eygpt as srk said all indians are amitabh bachan,

comparing srk to amitabh is nonsense, its harsh on amitabh to be same group on khans, yes I agree abhi is just a shadow of his dad and way behind all 3 khans,

as srk is playing the catch up ,hope the new salman starrer bombs…which I doubt it will

as salmans new releases is approaching nearer it will be a nightmare for srk and his fans…if this new release does become blockbuster then what next for srk, like last time all srk fans were over joying of HNY and turned out to be another pushing & shuving to 200cr+ “whimper”

Dilwale looks good, fan and raees are probably another Whimps

        • Vijay, why should I wish bad for salman or any other actors films? The more film does good business, the better it is for film industry and economy of india.

Again, you’re complaining about srk movies making 200+ crore while bachhans have hard time hitting 20 crore.

you should be more worried about bachhan not being able to give hit film instead of worrying about an actor whose last 2 films have made over 200 crore and each of his film has made over 100 crore for more then 5 years now.

I understand the failure of bachhans is making you like this but there are other things in life. Cheer up…

    1, amir kahn

    2, salman khan

    3,srk

srk need 300cr+ and DILWALE looks the only one ,just kkep your finger cross, depends what salman new release does at the box-office…

What positions are bachhans at? for your advantage, you can group all bachhans (ma, baap, beta and bahu) together. They will still not be able to get to # 3 position. Wait, can they even get into top 10?

I’m happy with SRK being at # 3 position. Looks like you’re not happy with the positions bachhans are at hence you’re spending your time talking about SRK.

I don’t think this 200cr, 300cr and so on…. should be attached with the star. A star is responsible for opening of the film only and rest depends upon content. I find Vijay’s comments laughworthy here when he says that A has delivered 300cr move and B 200cr hence A is bigger than B.

IF YOU CAN MAKE AMITABH OF 70S AND 80S yes amitabh was far better then srk position in all bollywood films.

amitabh was alll rounder like kapil dev and not just king of romance,

        Z,
comparing amitabh to srk ,you need to compare his era and srk era ,compare srk to salman now and what is your answer?…

simple thing is Z,compare 3 khans and leave amitabh part alone but compare 3 khans, would you find then srk position is worse then say 5 to 6 years ago…just answer that…

        • Please help me understand your question because I don’t get it.

Amitabh did films like hum (hit), ajooba (flop), andrajeet (flop), akayla (flop) at age 50. And it was all down hill from there except one hit here and there.

I thought we already decided that SRK is at # 3, so what to compare with salman?

Or do you have it in your mind that SRK is #1 and arguing with your self?
