It’s 50th day and #Neerja is still running in theatres [at select multiplexes in 8th week]. Total to date: ₹ 75.52 cr. India biz. TERRIFIC!
As all these films now do, The Jungle Book is filled with amusing vocal cameos, but few feel as perfect as the late Garry Shandling, that bristliest of comedians, showing up as an annoyed porcupine.
Itis, however, the king of the jungle who leads the pack. I fall deeper in love with Idris Elba’s voice with each syllable, and his Shere Khan is a creature of magnificence. With all the swagger of the villain in a Western, this commanding Bengal Tiger arrests our attention in the strongest fashion, with Elba snarling out each carefully-chosen word in a ready-to-pounce way that makes it feel it may be the listener’s last.
What immortal hand or eye, indeed.
The story is familiar — the tale of a reluctant man-cub being escorted to a village — but thanks to the overwhelming visuals and the compelling narrative, I found myself trying to will the next scene on, wanting hungrily to know what happens next.
There is much magic to be found in this film, from the moment we see a giant snakeskin discarded imperiously over a swathe of forest, to one where a little boy with cherry-red pyjamas reaches out to prod a panther’s gums.
Yet, it remains the stuff of childhood lore.
Favreau has borrowed enough from the animated film to make his story sprint strongly through his fantastically-foliaged new world, but us old fans will always want more.
I, for instance, could really have done with four Liverpudlian vultures nudging each other and wondering what they’d like to be doing, but ah — the films of Favreau are all about keeping hope alive, and there is much room for such plans to come together in the sequel.
Take the kids you know (and the kid within you) and go watch The Jungle Book.
One would expect a sweet fun filled adventure, especially with Disney remaking everyone’s favourite childhood story. But THE JUNGLE BOOK is far from it. In fact the film that combines live action with impeccable CGI animation is quite literally a visual masterpiece. Faverau does a brilliant job of interweaving the gags that we remember from the TV show and the darkness that hides within the lines of the book. This coupled with spot on voiceovers and life like animation takes the audience on a roller coaster ride while following the adventures of Mowgli. Neel Sethi, the 12 year old who was chosen for the part of Mowgli after auditioning over 2000 kids, fits the role perfectly. Not once does he underplay or over emote in any sequence, given the fact that the lad most probably shot major parts of the film against a green screen, a feat that even the most experienced actors might find hard to pull off.
The Jungle Book has opened very well taking a 50% apprx opening on average across India. The opening is on par with Batman v Superman at major multiplexes though smaller multiplexes are less due to the action factor. Still the big difference is The Jungle Book is for family audiences which gives it good potential for growth this evening and over the weekend while Batman v Superman was a more front loaded film.
It would be no surprise to see the day one figure beat Batman v Superman due to the evening crowd. This sort of opening for this genre probably ensures success as the target audience is still to come. Its been over three months in 2016 and its two Hollywood releases Batman v Superman and The Jungle Book which have taken a good initial and that too all over which is a reflection of the limited interest that Hindi films released in the first 3 months have generated. Hopefully Fan will change this.
The Hindi releases Love Games and Club Dancer opened poorly at most places. Love Games managed bit better collections at some mass centres and it could have some chance in these centres but the collections have to be good rather than below average to average. The weekend will belong to The Jungle Book and its looking potentially to do very well.
Of all of the impressive details to appear on screen in Disney’s live-action adaptation of “The Jungle Book,” none is more startling than a title card at the close of the end credits reading: “Filmed in Downtown Los Angeles.” So immersively does the film’s visual-effects team craft every tree, waterfall and flower of Rudyard Kipling’s fantastical subcontinental setting, and so carefully are the talking CGI animals rendered, it almost beggars belief that the whole thing was shot in a 12-story building overlooking the 110 freeway. But aside from investing in top-drawer digital craftsmanship, perhaps the canniest move Disney made on this film was hiring Jon Favreau to helm it. Maintaining the buoyant heartbeat beneath all the digital flash, Favreau never loses sight of the fact that he’s making an adventure story for children — no small matter in a kid-pic landscape flooded with inappropriately gritty reboots and frenetic distraction devices — and when positive word of mouth arrives to buttress Disney’s all-out marketing efforts, the studio should have a substantial hit on its hands.
The Jungle Book has had a very good first day with collections set to be in the 9.50 crore nett range as per early estimates. The figures coming from the Hindi film markets suggest a higher figure but there is a big Telugu release down South and that will mean the ratio of the South Indian markets should come in lower than normal.
The 9.50 crore number is a huge opening and on top there is potential for growth though maybe not in Maharashtra as it was a holiday for Gudi Padwa. Outside Maharashtra the film should show solid growth. The opening is the third biggest ever for a Hollywood release.
Ka & Ki has also held pretty well on day eight and should be 2 crore nett range though growth may not be as normal for a second weekend as it was a holiday for Maharashtra and the weekend crowd will go to The Jungle Book.

The Jungle Book is looking set to emerge a blockbuster as it heads for growth of 20-25% and a 12.25-12.50 crore nett second day. More importantly the film has picked up very well in the dubbed versions and that is a sign of a good run. Also this sort of growth is excellent especially as Maharashtra was a holiday on Friday.
There will be further growth on Sunday and with the dubbed version being liked, the growth could be even better than Sunday. The way the film is going it could challenge the highest Hollywood grossers in India and even be the first hollywood release to hit 100 crore nett but the biggest obstacle there is Fan releasing next week.
The two day business of the film will be over 22 crore nett and the weekend should finish in the range of 36-38 crore nett which would make it the second biggest opening weekend for a Hollywood release..
Fan advance booking has started very strong in multiplexes few hours back. The promotions have been very low key for a SRK movie so I was not sure what to expect. There is just 1 song so the promotion has just focused on the story and thrill factor. But i guess there is a decent curiosity about the movie as it is different from SRK’s usual crappy masala stuff he has been churning. Interesting to see how this one fares as it is not carrying a huge price tag too. But then SRK has a standard to live up to irrespective of the cost of the movie. I guess 200 crores will be a strong showing for this kind of movie primarily targeted to multiplexes?? What say?
SRK’s next few movies are so much better than the Farah Khan , KJo stuff he usually signs, Raees, Imtiaz and Anand Rai’s next and mostly he will do Shimit Amin’s movie co-starring Ranveer. He also has a cameo in Gauri Shinde’s next…He has gone ‘Small’ with a vengeance and I am not complaining…
25 to 28 cr? No way man! I think if it’ll cross 20 then it’ll be a good opening day for this kind of movie. 25 would have been possible if it has yes chartbuster songs but that’s not the case here.
25 cr to 28 cr is possible even considering the type of movie this is. The advance is also quite strong to start with and will only pick up. Its also a part holiday due to Rama Navami in some south states. All said and done a SRK movie whatever be the genre opening below that number is pretty poor. And in any case I have given concession for the non masala genre by going for a number in the 25 to 28 range. My range for HNY was around 40 and for Dilwale was around 25 but that was with competition.
More than anything else, there seems to be genuine curiosity around the movie..
Oh this one will be big..let’s stop pretending as though this is an art movie..
The one thing I agree with is that this does seem a bit like a double-edged sword. The ‘younger’ fan is again a repetition of the DARR obsessiveness as far as characterization is concerned. Since DARR act was liked by the folks in the ’90s, nostalgia might work big time [that it didn’t work for DILWALE is the result of wrong dependency on nostalgia and patchy story/direction]. On the other hand, if it goes the same route, today’s audience might not take it well.
I actually thought this would be a ‘mental’ cat and mouse game rather than a physical thriller one as shown in the preview. That it has taken DeNiro’s THE FAN and SRK’s Darr route has actually been a surprise for me..
This will work big even if there is decent direction/story to it. As the younger one, SRK seems to be doing great and is in his elements though the VFX is of course bad.
YRF is one rich cash-cow..Wonder why it didn’t go to the US for VFX..Hopefully red chillies will not burn their arses..

The potentially catastrophic clash between Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan this Eid has been finally averted.
As expected Shah Rukh Khan has blinked first. Or rather, his producer Ritesh Sidhwani who has postponed the release of Raees by a few weeks.According to a very reliable source, “Shah Rukh’s Raees is not clashing with Salman’s Sultan after all. In fact after what the clash of Shah Rukh’s Dilwale with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani did to the former, Shah Rukh was opposed to the Eid clash. It was producer Ritesh Sidhwani who insisted they won’t budge.”
Better sense has now prevailed. Raees is postponed by at least two weeks. Buzz is that the Shah Rukh starrer will now take on either Sajid Nadiadwala’s Dishoom (featuring John Abraham, Varun Dhawan and Jacqueline Fernandes) on July 29 or Ashutosh Gowariker’s Mohenjo Daro with Hrithik Roshan in the lead on 12th August.”

One knows this may or may not do great shakes at the box office
But this begins a new PHASE…
Kael had passionate likes and dislikes — prejudices even — and was not shy about disclosing them. She didn’t see the point of Robert Redford, for example, and became meaner and meaner about him. She also had a stubborn, perplexingly high regard for the movies of Brian De Palma. But unlike so much of what you now read online, hers were not snap judgments. Her reviews were meant to begin discussions, not end them, and among her readers those discussions sometimes went on for weeks. I even knew couples who broke up over them. She would have deplored the way so many critics today have allowed themselves to become mere thumb-waggers, barely able to describe or evoke a work before rushing to a verdict, sometimes delivered so quickly and so emphatically that the reader has no reason to go beyond the first paragraph, or even the first sentence: “This vapid novel, this waste of wood pulp. . . .” Where do you go from there? Such reviews tend to make the same point over and over again, without considering, as Kael so often did, that even an inferior work can sometimes teach us something, and that how you arrive at an opinion is often more important than the opinion itself.
Kael was also a terrific and inspiring writer, one of those critics you’d read no matter what they wrote about. It’s unreasonable to expect such flair and originality from everyone, but in deciding which critics are worth attending to, literary critics especially, we can at least insist on readability — on clearness of expression, some stylishness, and even a sense of humor. Criticism may be a minor art, but it’s an art all the same, and critical writing ought to be pleasing in itself and not just piggyback on whatever work it’s discussing.

On March 16, speaking to Mirror, Mahesh Bhatt who’d directed the original ‘Aashiqui’ and who, along with filmmaker brother, Mukesh Bhatt and Bhushan Kumar, will be producing the third part in the franchise, informed that his daughter Alia and Sidharth Malhotra have been approached to play the lead. En route Bangkok for an ad shoot, the actor confirmed the news. “Scripting is in progress but it should be up and running next year. ‘Aashiqui 2’ had lots of love, angst and music. I’m looking forward to more,” Sidharth exulted.
The Jungle Book is a record breaker as far as Hollywood films in India are concerned as it set a record for the highest weekend with a total of 40 crore nett and the another record for the highest collection in a single day for a Hollywood release in India as it grossed 16.50 crore nett on Sunday. This is also the first time that a Hollywood film has ever gone over 15 crore nett on a single day.
The daily business of the film was 10 crore nett on Friday, 13.50 crore nett on Saturday and 16.50 crore nett on Sunday. Despite it just being three days it can easily be said the film will be a blockbuster as the contribution for the dubbed versions is around 50%.
Normally Hollywood releases films are driven by English versions which eventually limits the business but here the with the dubbed versions doing so well especially the hindi versions the film will sustain well over the weekdays.
The Jungle Book is the first film of 2016 to do well all over something which no Hindi film till dat as been able to do.
Ki & Ka had a fair second weekend of around 8 crore nett which tales its total to 45 crore nett plus. The drop is around 68% from the first weekend which is bit better than the norm which is around 70%. The film also had to withstand the craze of The Jungle Book especially on Saturday as Sunday as the strong word of mouth of that film spread all over..
The film should hit 50 crore nett now after the second week it will nearly be there and a copule at least should come after the second week.
The new Hindi releases fared very poorly this week with Love Games maaging to gross 2.75 crore only and the likes of Club Dancer, Hum Hain Wonder Boys and The Blueberry Hunt registering practically no collections.

SRK will start Imtiaz Ali’s next in July for next summer release and Anand’s film around Oct – Nov till next Apr-May with some overlap(which is already announced as Christmas 2017) Anand’s film will take some more time as it has VFX of a dwarf body. Then next is Aditya Chopra’s next directorial venture will start in 2017 end for 2018 Diwali release.
This is the same movie where Aditya Chopra said is his dream project with SRK but when developing Befikre script for another director got interested and wanted to direct it himself and pushed this for next project. SRK also confirmed that Aditya is in happy mood due to his marriage and wants to direct this light movie first and then get to back to his movie and he’s fine with that.

“I have finished Raees. I have got five days of work left in Gauri Shinde’s film, not five days of work in the film. I have shot for 15-20 days in the film,” revealed Shah Rukh Khan in a Bollywood Hungama exclusive with Faridoon Shahryar. But there was a news report stating that you are having a cameo in Gauri’s film? “I said I have four days of work left so they thought I have four days of work in the film. People don’t listen. It is a full-fledged role. I have finished lots of days. I have 4 days of work left,” Mr Khan said in a cool and calm manner without getting flustered by the misreporting.
For an indoor shooting and song-less movie, 25 days is lot of shooting days! So it can’t be cameo for sure though the story is about the girl and SRK is more of supporting role.
“Aditya Chopra has a plan to do a film with me. I think I will start shooting from Aditya’s next film by end of 2017. All he has told me is the fact that is a very big project and I might have to sit for two months with Adi to prepare for the character. He told me that the shooting will be wrapped up in three months, but I will have to work with him on characters for two months prior to shooting for the film. I have no idea what he is making, but he has just asked me to keep my dates free next year. He has been planning one film with me after Befikre” said Shah Rukh Khan.
Those who have seen Shah Rukh Khan’s bonding with his youngest son AbRam can vouch for the fact that they make for one of the most adorable and enviable father-son duos around. Being a cute little munchkin that he is, AbRam obviously draws major love and attention from papa dearest and rightly so. SRK too seems to enjoy AbRam’s company more than anybody else these days. He loves Aryan and Suhana just as much but AbRam, SRK says, is different from how Aryan and Suhana were during their growing up years. “Aryan always wanted to be on his own and Suhana is a little shy. As per boi even raone, kank, don, jthj and even dilwale were hit irrespective of their own random theory of distributor share, average per print and profit. BOI will have it hit at any number. Proud srkian like us have nothing to worry about.
The Jungle Book continues to shatter all records for Hollywood films in India as the film dropped just 25% from its first day. The first four day business of The Jungle Book is as follows

The collections could come in a little higher on Monday as the South versions could be a bit stronger because the Hindi dubbed version has held very strongly. The film should cross 65 crore nett for the week and could go higher as Thursday is a holiday. The film is the first universally appreciated film of the year and surprisingly its not a Hindi film. The collections in many smaller cities are better than Airlift on Monday.
Kapoor and Sons has folded up pretty quickly as the film drooped fast after the second week. The business of Kapoor & Sons till date is as follows

Third Week- 5,65,00,000
Fourth Week – 1,25,00,000 (4 Days)
Total – 69,13,00,000
The film found appreciation in just the metros which is why collections are low in week three and week four. If the flow of releases was weaker it could have held better like a Neerja as that was appreciated in the same places but held out for a little longer as weaker competition.
In an earlier interview, Tiger Shroff had said, “There are conflicting opinions on whether it actually originated from the teachings of an Indian Buddhist monk, Bodhidharma, who arrived in China from India in the 6th century or not. One thing is for certain and that is, he most definitely brought a form of martial arts with him, most likely Kalaripayattu, and transformed the newly formed Shaolin temple and the Buddhist monks settled there, into dedicating themselves to Kung Fu and becoming a warrior elite whose fame spread throughout China and then all over the world.”
This comment of his on Kung Fu having its origins in India has not only shocked the martial arts maestro/actor Jackie Chan, but it has also made him extremely curious about the subject since Kung Fu has been an extremely important part of his career.
Jackie Chan was shooting for his next in Jaipur, when he came across an article in which Tiger Shroff had spoken in detail about Kung Fu’s origins and crediting the same to an Indian.
Jackie Chan looked irked upon seeing the statement. It is understood why it did not go well with him, as he can easily be tagged as the brand ambassador of Kung Fu.

Says a source, “A rival fan group that is trying to sabotage the film by spreading negativity. ‘Fan’ is releasing this week and certain people in the industry want to gain some publicity by doing all of this.”
So do these antics affect the film’s collection? Distributor-exhibitor Akshaye Rathi doesn’t think so. “These unwanted elements can’t do anything to affect the film’s collection. People who want to watch the film will always watch it no matter what. The fans really don’t care about such nuisance. Certain people come up with such stunts for cheap publicity. They should be ignored,” he says.
Trade expert Amod Mehra seconds Rathi’s opinion and adds that at the end of the day, it’s the content of the film that matters. “Till now nothing of this sort has managed to even put a dent on the business of a film. Certain loyal fans of rival groups spread such rumours, but if the content of the film is good, it is bound to work at the box office. I also feel that sometimes this kind of unwanted attention helps giving the upcoming release publicity. If you have noticed, the film has not been promoted in typical SRK manner so as to generate curiosity,” he adds.
Trade analyst Girish Wankhede, says that social media bashing might affect the psyche of certain moviegoers, but their percentage is way too small. “We have observed a trend where social media bashing happens for certain films and it indeed influences certain moviegoers’ psyche but it is just too small compared a percentage as compared to the overall canvas of a film. Some random negative post can never influence the popularity and strength of a blockbuster. Especially a comment in the digital space where everyone holds either an expert opinion or some hidden agenda or plain criticism. As all these films now do, The Jungle Book is filled with amusing vocal cameos, but few feel as perfect as the late Garry Shandling, that bristliest of comedians, showing up as an annoyed porcupine.
Itis, however, the king of the jungle who leads the pack. I fall deeper in love with Idris Elba’s voice with each syllable, and his Shere Khan is a creature of magnificence. With all the swagger of the villain in a Western, this commanding Bengal Tiger arrests our attention in the strongest fashion, with Elba snarling out each carefully-chosen word in a ready-to-pounce way that makes it feel it may be the listener’s last.
What immortal hand or eye, indeed.
The story is familiar — the tale of a reluctant man-cub being escorted to a village — but thanks to the overwhelming visuals and the compelling narrative, I found myself trying to will the next scene on, wanting hungrily to know what happens next.
There is much magic to be found in this film, from the moment we see a giant snakeskin discarded imperiously over a swathe of forest, to one where a little boy with cherry-red pyjamas reaches out to prod a panther’s gums.
Yet, it remains the stuff of childhood lore.
Favreau has borrowed enough from the animated film to make his story sprint strongly through his fantastically-foliaged new world, but us old fans will always want more.
I, for instance, could really have done with four Liverpudlian vultures nudging each other and wondering what they’d like to be doing, but ah — the films of Favreau are all about keeping hope alive, and there is much room for such plans to come together in the sequel.
Take the kids you know (and the kid within you) and go watch The Jungle Book.

One would expect a sweet fun filled adventure, especially with Disney remaking everyone’s favourite childhood story. But THE JUNGLE BOOK is far from it. In fact the film that combines live action with impeccable CGI animation is quite literally a visual masterpiece. Faverau does a brilliant job of interweaving the gags that we remember from the TV show and the darkness that hides within the lines of the book. This coupled with spot on voiceovers and life like animation takes the audience on a roller coaster ride while following the adventures of Mowgli. Neel Sethi, the 12 year old who was chosen for the part of Mowgli after auditioning over 2000 kids, fits the role perfectly. Not once does he underplay or over emote in any sequence, given the fact that the lad most probably shot major parts of the film against a green screen, a feat that even the most experienced actors might find hard to pull off.

The Jungle Book has opened very well taking a 50% apprx opening on average across India. The opening is on par with Batman v Superman at major multiplexes though smaller multiplexes are less due to the action factor. Still the big difference is The Jungle Book is for family audiences which gives it good potential for growth this evening and over the weekend while Batman v Superman was a more front loaded film.
It would be no surprise to see the day one figure beat Batman v Superman due to the evening crowd. This sort of opening for this genre probably ensures success as the target audience is still to come. Its been over three months in 2016 and its two Hollywood releases Batman v Superman and The Jungle Book which have taken a good initial and that too all over which is a reflection of the limited interest that Hindi films released in the first 3 months have generated. Hopefully Fan will change this.
The Hindi releases Love Games and Club Dancer opened poorly at most places. Love Games managed bit better collections at some mass centres and it could have some chance in these centres but the collections have to be good rather than below average to average. The weekend will belong to The Jungle Book and its looking potentially to do very well.

Of all of the impressive details to appear on screen in Disney’s live-action adaptation of “The Jungle Book,” none is more startling than a title card at the close of the end credits reading: “Filmed in Downtown Los Angeles.” So immersively does the film’s visual-effects team craft every tree, waterfall and flower of Rudyard Kipling’s fantastical subcontinental setting, and so carefully are the talking CGI animals rendered, it almost beggars belief that the whole thing was shot in a 12-story building overlooking the 110 freeway. But aside from investing in top-drawer digital craftsmanship, perhaps the canniest move Disney made on this film was hiring Jon Favreau to helm it. Maintaining the buoyant heartbeat beneath all the digital flash, Favreau never loses sight of the fact that he’s making an adventure story for children — no small matter in a kid-pic landscape flooded with inappropriately gritty reboots and frenetic distraction devices — and when positive word of mouth arrives to buttress Disney’s all-out marketing efforts, the studio should have a substantial hit on its hands.

The Jungle Book has had a very good first day with collections set to be in the 9.50 crore nett range as per early estimates. The figures coming from the Hindi film markets suggest a higher figure but there is a big Telugu release down South and that will mean the ratio of the South Indian markets should come in lower than normal.
The 9.50 crore number is a huge opening and on top there is potential for growth though maybe not in Maharashtra as it was a holiday for Gudi Padwa. Outside Maharashtra the film should show solid growth. The opening is the third biggest ever for a Hollywood release.
Ka & Ki has also held pretty well on day eight and should be 2 crore nett range though growth may not be as normal for a second weekend as it was a holiday for Maharashtra and the weekend crowd will go to The Jungle Book.

Let us take the case of the musical genius Ilayaraja. Recently, on an online discussion forum, I came across this strong argument that Ilayaraja had culturally disowned his Dalit roots. His music, the claim went, was Sanskritised and catered to privileged sensibilities: an interesting thought that couldn’t be easily dismissed. We do remember Ilayaraja as the one who bridged the folk, the Indian classical and the Western classical divide. Yet, it is in his use of Carnatic raagas and complex Western-based harmonies that he made a mark. Even to the non-technical listener, these sounds are unmistakably evident.

The Jungle Book is looking set to emerge a blockbuster as it heads for growth of 20-25% and a 12.25-12.50 crore nett second day. More importantly the film has picked up very well in the dubbed versions and that is a sign of a good run. Also this sort of growth is excellent especially as Maharashtra was a holiday on Friday.
There will be further growth on Sunday and with the dubbed version being liked, the growth could be even better than Sunday. The way the film is going it could challenge the highest Hollywood grossers in India and even be the first hollywood release to hit 100 crore nett but the biggest obstacle there is Fan releasing next week.
The two day business of the film will be over 22 crore nett and the weekend should finish in the range of 36-38 crore nett which would make it the second biggest opening weekend for a Hollywood release..

Fan advance booking has started very strong in multiplexes few hours back. The promotions have been very low key for a SRK movie so I was not sure what to expect. There is just 1 song so the promotion has just focused on the story and thrill factor. But i guess there is a decent curiosity about the movie as it is different from SRK’s usual crappy masala stuff he has been churning. Interesting to see how this one fares as it is not carrying a huge price tag too. But then SRK has a standard to live up to irrespective of the cost of the movie. I guess 200 crores will be a strong showing for this kind of movie primarily targeted to multiplexes?? What say?
SRK’s next few movies are so much better than the Farah Khan , KJo stuff he usually signs, Raees, Imtiaz and Anand Rai’s next and mostly he will do Shimit Amin’s movie co-starring Ranveer. He also has a cameo in Gauri Shinde’s next…He has gone ‘Small’ with a vengeance and I am not complaining…

25 cr to 28 cr is possible even considering the type of movie this is. The advance is also quite strong to start with and will only pick up. Its also a part holiday due to Rama Navami in some south states. All said and done a SRK movie whatever be the genre opening below that number is pretty poor. And in any case I have given concession for the non masala genre by going for a number in the 25 to 28 range. My range for HNY was around 40 and for Dilwale was around 25 but that was with competition.
More than anything else, there seems to be genuine curiosity around the movie..

Oh this one will be big..let’s stop pretending as though this is an art movie..
The one thing I agree with is that this does seem a bit like a double-edged sword. The ‘younger’ fan is again a repetition of the DARR obsessiveness as far as characterization is concerned. Since DARR act was liked by the folks in the ’90s, nostalgia might work big time [that it didn’t work for DILWALE is the result of wrong dependency on nostalgia and patchy story/direction]. On the other hand, if it goes the same route, today’s audience might not take it well.
I actually thought this would be a ‘mental’ cat and mouse game rather than a physical thriller one as shown in the preview. That it has taken DeNiro’s THE FAN and SRK’s Darr route has actually been a surprise for me..
This will work big even if there is decent direction/story to it. As the younger one, SRK seems to be doing great and is in his elements though the VFX is of course bad.
YRF is one rich cash-cow..Wonder why it didn’t go to the US for VFX..Hopefully red chillies will not burn their arses..

The potentially catastrophic clash between Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan this Eid has been finally averted.
As expected Shah Rukh Khan has blinked first. Or rather, his producer Ritesh Sidhwani who has postponed the release of Raees by a few weeks.According to a very reliable source, “Shah Rukh’s Raees is not clashing with Salman’s Sultan after all. In fact after what the clash of Shah Rukh’s Dilwale with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani did to the former, Shah Rukh was opposed to the Eid clash. It was producer Ritesh Sidhwani who insisted they won’t budge.”
Better sense has now prevailed. Raees is postponed by at least two weeks. Buzz is that the Shah Rukh starrer will now take on either Sajid Nadiadwala’s Dishoom (featuring John Abraham, Varun Dhawan and Jacqueline Fernandes) on July 29 or Ashutosh Gowariker’s Mohenjo Daro with Hrithik Roshan in the lead on 12th August.”

Kael had passionate likes and dislikes — prejudices even — and was not shy about disclosing them. She didn’t see the point of Robert Redford, for example, and became meaner and meaner about him. She also had a stubborn, perplexingly high regard for the movies of Brian De Palma. But unlike so much of what you now read online, hers were not snap judgments. Her reviews were meant to begin discussions, not end them, and among her readers those discussions sometimes went on for weeks. I even knew couples who broke up over them. She would have deplored the way so many critics today have allowed themselves to become mere thumb-waggers, barely able to describe or evoke a work before rushing to a verdict, sometimes delivered so quickly and so emphatically that the reader has no reason to go beyond the first paragraph, or even the first sentence: “This vapid novel, this waste of wood pulp. . . .” Where do you go from there? Such reviews tend to make the same point over and over again, without considering, as Kael so often did, that even an inferior work can sometimes teach us something, and that how you arrive at an opinion is often more important than the opinion itself.
Kael was also a terrific and inspiring writer, one of those critics you’d read no matter what they wrote about. It’s unreasonable to expect such flair and originality from everyone, but in deciding which critics are worth attending to, literary critics especially, we can at least insist on readability — on clearness of expression, some stylishness, and even a sense of humor. Criticism may be a minor art, but it’s an art all the same, and critical writing ought to be pleasing in itself and not just piggyback on whatever work it’s discussing.

On March 16, speaking to Mirror, Mahesh Bhatt who’d directed the original ‘Aashiqui’ and who, along with filmmaker brother, Mukesh Bhatt and Bhushan Kumar, will be producing the third part in the franchise, informed that his daughter Alia and Sidharth Malhotra have been approached to play the lead. En route Bangkok for an ad shoot, the actor confirmed the news. “Scripting is in progress but it should be up and running next year. ‘Aashiqui 2’ had lots of love, angst and music. I’m looking forward to more,” Sidharth exulted.

The Jungle Book is a record breaker as far as Hollywood films in India are concerned as it set a record for the highest weekend with a total of 40 crore nett and the another record for the highest collection in a single day for a Hollywood release in India as it grossed 16.50 crore nett on Sunday. This is also the first time that a Hollywood film has ever gone over 15 crore nett on a single day.
The daily business of the film was 10 crore nett on Friday, 13.50 crore nett on Saturday and 16.50 crore nett on Sunday. Despite it just being three days it can easily be said the film will be a blockbuster as the contribution for the dubbed versions is around 50%.
Normally Hollywood releases films are driven by English versions which eventually limits the business but here the with the dubbed versions doing so well especially the hindi versions the film will sustain well over the weekdays.
The Jungle Book is the first film of 2016 to do well all over something which no Hindi film till dat as been able to do.

Ki & Ka had a fair second weekend of around 8 crore nett which tales its total to 45 crore nett plus. The drop is around 68% from the first weekend which is bit better than the norm which is around 70%. The film also had to withstand the craze of The Jungle Book especially on Saturday as Sunday as the strong word of mouth of that film spread all over..
The film should hit 50 crore nett now after the second week it will nearly be there and a copule at least should come after the second week.
The new Hindi releases fared very poorly this week with Love Games maaging to gross 2.75 crore only and the likes of Club Dancer, Hum Hain Wonder Boys and The Blueberry Hunt registering practically no collections.

SRK will start Imtiaz Ali’s next in July for next summer release and Anand’s film around Oct – Nov till next Apr-May with some overlap(which is already announced as Christmas 2017) Anand’s film will take some more time as it has VFX of a dwarf body. Then next is Aditya Chopra’s next directorial venture will start in 2017 end for 2018 Diwali release.
This is the same movie where Aditya Chopra said is his dream project with SRK but when developing Befikre script for another director got interested and wanted to direct it himself and pushed this for next project. SRK also confirmed that Aditya is in happy mood due to his marriage and wants to direct this light movie first and then get to back to his movie and he’s fine with that.
Below are Aditya Chopra exact words from this Befikre announcement matches SRK’s recent interviews too.
“I started writing Befikre for fun while I was writing my most ambitious script. I thought I’ll give ti to one my directors and I’ll just produce it. But I enjoyed writing it so much that I knew half way that I’m going to direct it myself.”

That’s incorrect.
“I have finished Raees. I have got five days of work left in Gauri Shinde’s film, not five days of work in the film. I have shot for 15-20 days in the film,” revealed Shah Rukh Khan in a Bollywood Hungama exclusive with Faridoon Shahryar. But there was a news report stating that you are having a cameo in Gauri’s film? “I said I have four days of work left so they thought I have four days of work in the film. People don’t listen. It is a full-fledged role. I have finished lots of days. I have 4 days of work left,” Mr Khan said in a cool and calm manner without getting flustered by the misreporting.

“Aditya Chopra has a plan to do a film with me. I think I will start shooting from Aditya’s next film by end of 2017. All he has told me is the fact that is a very big project and I might have to sit for two months with Adi to prepare for the character. He told me that the shooting will be wrapped up in three months, but I will have to work with him on characters for two months prior to shooting for the film. I have no idea what he is making, but he has just asked me to keep my dates free next year. He has been planning one film with me after Befikre” said Shah Rukh Khan.

The Jungle Book continues to shatter all records for Hollywood films in India as the film dropped just 25% from its first day. The first four day business of The Jungle Book is as follows
Friday – 10,00,00,000
Saturday – 13,75,00,000
Sunday – 16,50,00,000
Monday – 7,50,00,000
Total – 47,75,00,000
The collections could come in a little higher on Monday as the South versions could be a bit stronger because the Hindi dubbed version has held very strongly. The film should cross 65 crore nett for the week and could go higher as Thursday is a holiday. The film is the first universally appreciated film of the year and surprisingly its not a Hindi film. The collections in many smaller cities are better than Airlift on Monday.

Kapoor and Sons has folded up pretty quickly as the film drooped fast after the second week. The business of Kapoor & Sons till date is as follows
Week One – 44,77,00,000
Week Two – 17,46,00,000
Third Week- 5,65,00,000
Fourth Week – 1,25,00,000 (4 Days)
Total – 69,13,00,000
The film found appreciation in just the metros which is why collections are low in week three and week four. If the flow of releases was weaker it could have held better like a Neerja as that was appreciated in the same places but held out for a little longer as weaker competition.

This comment of his on Kung Fu having its origins in India has not only shocked the martial arts maestro/actor Jackie Chan, but it has also made him extremely curious about the subject since Kung Fu has been an extremely important part of his career.
Jackie Chan was shooting for his next in Jaipur, when he came across an article in which Tiger Shroff had spoken in detail about Kung Fu’s origins and crediting the same to an Indian.
Jackie Chan looked irked upon seeing the statement. It is understood why it did not go well with him, as he can easily be tagged as the brand ambassador of Kung Fu.
He wanted to go back to roots, meet Tiger and know the basis of his comment. He also asked people from the crew and his near dear ones to do some research on it as he wants to find out the correct fact.
The whole world believes that Kung Fu has its origins in China and now it looks like this well studied comment of Tiger Shroff has shaken a lot of people, including the most popular martial artist/actor Jackie Chan.

Says a source, “A rival fan group that is trying to sabotage the film by spreading negativity. ‘Fan’ is releasing this week and certain people in the industry want to gain some publicity by doing all of this.”
So do these antics affect the film’s collection? Distributor-exhibitor Akshaye Rathi doesn’t think so. “These unwanted elements can’t do anything to affect the film’s collection. People who want to watch the film will always watch it no matter what. The fans really don’t care about such nuisance. Certain people come up with such stunts for cheap publicity. They should be ignored,” he says.
Trade expert Amod Mehra seconds Rathi’s opinion and adds that at the end of the day, it’s the content of the film that matters. “Till now nothing of this sort has managed to even put a dent on the business of a film. Certain loyal fans of rival groups spread such rumours, but if the content of the film is good, it is bound to work at the box office. I also feel that sometimes this kind of unwanted attention helps giving the upcoming release publicity. If you have noticed, the film has not been promoted in typical SRK manner so as to generate curiosity,” he adds.
Trade analyst Girish Wankhede, says that social media bashing might affect the psyche of certain moviegoers, but their percentage is way too small. “We have observed a trend where social media bashing happens for certain films and it indeed influences certain moviegoers’ psyche but it is just too small compared a percentage as compared to the overall canvas of a film. Some random negative post can never influence the popularity and strength of a blockbuster. Especially a comment in the digital space where everyone holds either an expert opinion or some hidden agenda or plain criticism.
