Baaghi Has Very Good First Week
Friday 06 May 2016 11.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Baaghi had a very good first week by collecting 59 crore nett in week one. The film fared average in the high end multiplexes but still put up good to excellent number in all circuits. The first week collections are only behind Airlift and Fan for the year both of which had big male lead stars…
Baaghi is that traditional box office hit where everyone in the chain makes good money. The film was made for a production cost of 25 crore then the rights went for 35 crore giving good table profit. The worldwide distributors are in Overflow before the week is out and exhibitors across the country will earn including single screens all over which does not even happen with many hit films.
The film managed solid holds over the weekdays and the main competition will come from Hollywood with Captain America – Civil War but Baaghi should continue strong in mass circuits where Hollywood films struggle to penetrate unless its The Jungle Book. http://boxofficeindia.com/art_detail.php?articalid=2007#.VyxiQG596hd
HISTORY For Jungle Book In Week Four
Friday 06 May 2016 11.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
The Jungle Book created HISTORY by having the highest fourth week collections ever in India. The film grossed a huge 17 crore nett apprx in week four. The highest grossing fourh weeks now stand as follows.
The film has now grossed 171 crore nett in four weeks. The film has gone into week five with very strong weekday collections but a fifth week record should be impossible as the box office today just does not allow for such records to be set. But on the other hand it has surprised every week till now. http://boxofficeindia.com/art_detail.php?articalid=2006#.VyxiUm596hd
Jungle Book is not ATBB like 3 Idiots etc but Once in a life time block buster like Titanic or Jurassic Park đ
So happy for the most Indian films from hollywood getting accepted in India in this way.
You need to brush up on your box office history for both hollywood and bollywood. Jurassic Park was huge when it came out in 1993 (one of my favs,…saw it 3 times in theatre) but can hardly be called ONCE IN A LIFETIME BLOCKBUSTER. It did not even beat Star Wars domestic US record at that time. Titanic certainly was a ONCE IN LIFETIME blockbuster since it shattered pretty much every box office record that was…As for 3 Idiots, I am not sure what you can call a movie that ALMOST DOUBLED the previous domestic record (beating Ghajini’s 114 with 203). I know that you like to take cheap shot at Aamir but your head is so far up Akshay’s you know what that you can’t seem to be thinking clearly.
Captain America Very Good – Hindi Releases Poor
Friday 06 May 2016 12.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Hollywood again triumphed over Hindi films as Captain America – Civil War took a very good opening especially in its 3D format though the competition from Hindi films. The opening of Captain America – Civil War was around 40-45% which is way better than the Hindi films and is one of the better initials of the year.
There were three Hindi films with 1920 – London, One Night Stand and Traffic and it was the first named which opened best with around 10-12%. One Night Stand was next followed by Traffic. 1920 – London should comfortably win the opening honors as far as the Hindi films are concerned but can it get to a respectable total.

Here is the poster of the year! #KAABIL Film releases on 26th Jan,2017 @iHrithik @Sanjaygupta0702 @KaabilTheMovie
Very good news… Colors played dirty with Kapil by even airing Bajirao Mastani for first 1 hour without any TV ads and losing revenue just to reduce Kapil’s TRP.
As said earlier.. Badshaho won’t be ready by Jan 26, 2017… this reports comes in….
*********************************
Badshaho moves to March 10, 2017.
Two days back, Shah Rukh Khan and his team announced that his film Raees, which was scheduled to release this Eid, has been postponed and will now hit the screens on January 26, 2017. With Raees releasing on Republic Day, the reports of it clashing with Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil and Ajay Devgn’s Baadshaho.
While Rakesh Roshan has refused to move, there are murmurs that the Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan clash would be averted. An industry insider informs a leading daily that SRK and Baadshaho wonât clash. âShah Rukh and the Excel team has planned everything nicely now,â reveals the source, adding further, “Ajay is mostly shifting the release because Baadshaho wonât be ready in January. The makers are now eyeing for a March 10 release. Ajay is now shooting his directorial venture Shivaay which he will wrap by June. He begins shooting for Baadshaho in July end- early August. His film with Remo DâSouza co-starring Sooraj Pancholi too goes on floors this September. So he will be juggling between the two films and it is highly improbable that Ajayâs Baadshaho will be ready in time for a January release. Thatâs why they have taken a call to shift the release date.â
Guess, time will tell which films will finally release on Republic Day 2017.
The film related news the resident samachar.com will never post here –

Much of Tamil cinema is fantasy, an awful lot of make-believe and Vikram Kumarâs 24 is all these, but with a purpose. For, it is a science fiction feature that gets busy not so much with the invention of a time-machine as it does with actor Suriyaâs triple role — twin brothers and a son of one of them.
Obviously, one of the twins has to be evil and envious of the other, a wizard of a scientist, who creates a little wristwatch that has the ability to freeze us all like in the game we played in our childhood, âstatue, statueâ. But the tick-tock contraption can also take us back by 24 hours to recap all the happened, and yes to recap in the way we wished all those things to have happened.
Bollywood actors have been victims of stereotyping since time immemorial. In fact, a majority of actors have fallen prey to the phenomenon at least once in their careers. But what happened with Richa Chadda takes stereotyping to another level. During an interview with Film Companion, the ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ revealed that she was offered to play Hrithik Roshan’s mother in ‘Agneepath’ and that too when she was, hold your breath, around 25 years old! She also said that the justification given by the casting director was the fact that she was playing Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s mother in ‘Gangs of Wasseypur.’
This unintentionally hilarious/ tragic article about Mumbai’s ‘urban poor’ is making the rounds on Facebook a lot:
hen thereâs my junior journalist friend. For a period, she was coming into work less often. And she was growing thinner. She insisted it was because she was jogging every evening. When she started to disappear at lunch time, or nurse a cold coffee all day, I knew. (I didnât miss the signs, because Iâve done it too.)
I WhatsApped her. It was the only way to be discreet.
âDo you have enough money for a meal?â
She didnât.
She explained that when she did, sheâd wait to go to Le Pain Quotidien and pay âš200 for a sandwich. After 6pm, the dayâs stock is discounted.
The office canteen offered meals all day that she could afford, but eating was a lower priority than keeping up the appearance that she could, when she chose to, do it at Le Pain Quotidien.
On a different note, Sadiq Khan becomes London mayor. His opponent Zac Goldsmith ran a rather divisive campaign, specifically targeting the British Hindu, Sikh and Sri Lankan Tamil vote. Here he is professing to ‘love’ Bollywood and amusingly being unable to name a single actor or film:
yes saw this earlier.. remarkable development. It was good to see the Muslim-baiting fail here as well as the stuff you’ve referred to. Of course anyone who’s illiterate in terms of Bollywood would not earn my vote anyway!
It was expected that he would win, but he won with the largest personal mandate in British history! Remarkable indeed. Of course the way it’s structured very much biases such a record in favour of London Mayor, but even Boris Johnson at his peak had fewer votes.
The much dreaded clash of the Khans â Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’ versus Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’ â at the box office this Eid may have been averted, but the relief among exhibitors and distributors was short-lived. With the release date of SRK’s film being moved to January 26, 2017, it will now collide with Hrithik Roshan-starrer ‘Kaabil’. Trade folk can, however, take heart from the fact that it won’t be a three cornered contest as feared earlier â Ajay Devgn has apparently pushed back ‘Baadshaho’ by a few weeks. – See more at: http://www.mid-day.com/articles/shah-rukh-khan-vs-hrithik-roshan-who-will-dominate-at-the-box-office/17206177#sthash.ssITYyr4.dpuf
‘Captain America: Civil War’ Hauls in $25M from Thursday Night Previews
by Brad Brevet
May 5, 2016
Friday AM Update: Captain America: Civil War brought in $25 million from Thursday night previews, the tenth largest Thursday night number of all-time (including midnight-only screenings). This Thursday number is just behind the $27.6 million posted by Avengers: Age of Ultron last year and $27.7 million brought in by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice earlier this year. Both films went on to gross over $80 million on Friday, the question as to whether Civil War will be able to top $200 million for the weekend depends on audience response and how well it ultimately plays on Saturday and Sunday.
Additionally, updated international figures for Civil War bring the international total to $291.2 million and that’s not including early reports from China where it’s being reported the film brought in $30.6 million on its opening day. For a larger breakdown of its international performance so far click here and stay tuned as we’ll have Friday estimates for you tomorrow morning.
Weekend Preview: After a $200.4 million international debut last weekend, Disney and Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War is set to make its domestic debut, aiming to become only the fourth film to gross over $200 million in its opening weekend. Meanwhile, several of the other films in the top ten could be in for dramatic drops from last weekend. Last year, while Avengers: Age of Ultron was opening to $191.2 million, all but one film (Cinderella) dropped over 53%. How will the holdovers fair against the latest Marvel juggernaut?
When it comes to Captain America: Civil War the question as to whether it will hit $200 million or not seems to be of little dispute. Granted, many thought Age of Ultron would follow the path paved by its predecessor and open with $200+ million last year before coming up just shy. That said, strong reviews and swelling fan anticipation for Civil War (92% on RottenTomatoes as of press time) should go a long way to helping this one out this weekend. Additionally, Fandango is reporting Civil War has generated record-breaking advance ticket sales, ranking as the online ticket retailer’s #1 pre-selling superhero movie of all time, surpassing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Avengers: Age of Ultron and The Avengers.

Baaghi had a decent eight day as it grossed 2.25 crore nett and has taken its business to over 61 crore nett. The drop is around 80% from first day but coming off such a good opening day the collections on day eight are still good. The business of Baaghi till date is as follows.
Week One – 59,00,00,000
Day 8 – 2,25,00,000
The film has the third highest distributor share of the year already in just 8 days behinf Airlift and Fan. The weekend should go to around 9 crore nett but depends on the Saturday growth and it might be less than normal second weeeknd growth of successful films as its best areas are mass centres which have less growth on Saturday. http://boxofficeindia.com/art_detail.php?articalid=2010#.Vy4AIG596hc

Captain America – Civil War had a very good first day grossing around 8.50 crore nett. The opening is the fourth highest ever for a Hollywood release. the top five are as follows.
1. Fast & Furious 7
2. The Avengers – Age Of Ultron
3. The Jungle Book
4. Captain America – Civil War
5. Batman v Superman
â24.â⌠An intelligent, joyous mix of sci-fi and masala-myth
Spoilers aheadâŚ
A discussion about 24 must begin with Suriya, and a discussion about Suriya must begin with the fact that you have to travel back in time, to Rakta Charitra in 2010, to get anything close to a performance from the actor. Had Suriya been just one of those âmass stars,â from whom we expect nothing but charisma and fourth-wall-breaking âfan moments,â weâd simply sigh and wait for his next movie to roll along. But in addition to Suriyaâs star power â pretty much the only thing that holds up the Singam franchise â heâs also a persuasive performer, and one kept waiting for a film that felt worthy of him. And it isnât as though heâs been picking easy scripts either. 7aum Arivu, Maattrraan and even Massu Engira Masilamani â all sound great on paper, high-concept star vehicles you canât see too many other heroes being interested in. But the films were sloppily written, sloppily made. One more expensive, out-of-the-box dud, and we might have had to resign ourselves to a resumĂŠ filled with Singam sequels. Captain America – Civil War Day Two Busines
Saturday 08 May 2016 10.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Captain America Civil War was flat on day two as the film hardly grew for its day one business. The busines is still good despite the limited growth. The two day business of Captain America – Civil War is as follows
Friday – 8,50,00,000
Saturday – 8,75,00,000 apprx
Total – 17,25,00,000
The limited growth probably means that the film will probably not be a long runner but should put up a good lifetime number due to strong opening weekend which should be 26.50 crore nett plus.
Saw 24 and had a wonderful time in the theatres after a long time…Very smart and inventive movie , respects the audience intelligence and keeps them guessing. The romantic portions could have been trimmed but the thrill portions were expertly executed. Suriya was wonderful and back in form…I always felt Suriya and Dhanush are the two best actors we have in our country…It was disappointing to see Suriya waste his talent last few movies but this was a welcome back to form for him. I find too many people over thinking on the time machine bit…We need to remember that time travel itself is a fantasy and there is no right or wrong there….We just need to enjoy the directors wonderful imagination and go along with the ride…Yes the romantic portions specially the song in second half must be trimmed.. Has ARR ever given a worse sound track in his life? The songs were so poor couldn’t believe it was ARR. But other than the songs and an extended romantic part, the movie works very well. The director is one to watch out for. His last 2 movies 13B and Manam were also very well executed.

One of the most politically aware actors, Twinkleâs tweets often brings a smile on your face.
In response to Sr Sriâs controversial statement on Nobel and how Malala was an undeserving recipient of the Peace Prize, Twinkleâs tongue-in-cheek tweet read, â Sri Sri got his nobel foot and half his beard stuck in his mouth in a yogic pose that Baba Ramdev perfected a while ago #HolyMenAndHairyTales (sic)â

Weâve surely not heard the last word on what has a potential to snowball into yet another twitter controversy involving Sri Sri.
The Art of Living founder is a staunch supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and even endorsed the BJP during the Lok Sabha elections in 2014.
He was in the news recently after his foundation was slammed by National Green Tribunal for destroying the environment on the Yamuna bed while organising the World Culture Festival in February.
The NGT had imposed a fine of Rs 5 crore on him, but heâs refused to pay the amount. Such is his power that the NGT has not been able to initiate any action against him.
According to legend, Alauddin heard of the unparalleled beauty of Padmavati, wife of Ratan Singh, and went to Chittor with an intention to siege the Chittor fort and see the Rani. Singh persuaded his wife to let the Sultan see her. When she gave her consent, Alauddin saw her reflection in a mirror. On seeing the beauty of the queen, Alauddin was determined to get her for his harem. But that was not to be. Eventually, Padmavati performed jauhar (self-immolation of queens and female royals of Rajput kingdoms when faced with defeat at the hands of an enemy).
“Prakash Kapadia, scriptwriter of ‘Bajirao Mastani’, has been roped in for this project, for which a release date of December 15, 2017 has been finalised,” adds the source.
Well said. And now he s going to give another slice of romanticised Indian history, SLB style. Bajirao M was more romance than history; entertaining enough, with good performances ( my fav wasPriyanka) — but hardly accurate history.
During the trailer launch of her film ‘Te3n,’ when Vidya Balan was asked about her take on the ongoing Kangana Ranaut – Hrithik Roshan legal battle, she refused to comment. But she did laud Kangana for the way she has handled herself in the entire saga. However, as per a report on BollywoodLife.com, this hasn’t gone down well with Vidya’s husband, Siddharth Roy Kapur. The report mentions that Kapur, under his banner UTV Disney, is producing Hrithik’s next, ‘Kaabil’ and it has caused him a lot of embarrassment. A source is quoted in the report as saying that Vidya’s comment will make things awkward between Kapur and Hrithik. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/hindi/bollywood/Has-Vidya-Balan-landed-hubby-in-trouble-by-lauding-Kangana-Ranaut/photostory/52185062.cms
Looks like Akshay Kumar might have to pay for Twinkle Khanna’s actions. The 42-year-old interior designer recently took to her Twitter handle and innocently joked about the Art of Living pioneer Sri Sri Ravishankar on social media. Khanna, who is @Mrsfunnybones on Twitter, wrote, “Sri Sri got his nobel foot and half his beard stuck in his mouth in a yogic pose the BabaRamdev perfected a while ago #HolyMenandHairyTales.” Replying to Twinkle’s tweet that was later deleted, AOL’s International director, Darshan Hathi wrote, “Million f followers r going 2 boycott #Housefull3 4 hurting the sentiments by inappropriate and ill intended comments f @mrsfunnybones on Sri Sri.”
Puri Jaggannadh’s next flick with Bachchans?

Puri Jaggannadh is all excited. After his 2011 Bollywood debut Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap, starring Amitabh Bachchan, the director is planning to be back to Bollywood with another movie.
Sources say that Puri has roped in none other than the Bachchans for his movie, and he confirms the news. âYes, I had recently met Amitabh Bachchan at Ram Gopal Varmaâs office. It was just an informal meeting. I had been longing to make a comeback in Bollywood.
I am looking forward to working with Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishekh Bachchan. With a perfect script in place and if everything goes well, I will approach the duo soon,â Puri says, hoping that the work of the movie would begin in 2017.
Currently, Puri is quite busy with his Telugu movies. âI have just completed the shoot of Rogue. My next Te-lugu venture with Kalyan Ram and Aditi Arya goes on the floor on May 25,â he says.
no….just nooo..BHTB was a brutal watch. Amitabh is currently on a roll with these recent quality movies…lets hope he sticks to it. Ironically Abhishek is now doing crappy roles.
BHTB could have been better .. but it has lot of awesome moments and at least 60-80 minutes of SOLID entertainer within. Saying all this, given minuscule budget, it was tough job to better it.

Aamir Khan, who is extremely busy these days with his ‘heavy-duty’ preparations for his most awaited film Dangal, recently took time out to watch the Marathi film Sairaat that has taken the Box-Office by storm. The film, which has been directed by Nagraj Manjule, is on a record shattering spree and is on its way to becoming one of the biggest blockbusters in Marathi cinema.
The moment Aamir Khan finished watching the film; he immediately took to twitter and shared his views about Sairaat. An extremely impressed Aamir Khan, tweeted, “Just saw Sairat. I’m heartbroken, still recovering from the shock of the end. Congratulations to Nagraj, Ajay-Atul, Rinku Rajguru, Akash Thosar, Tanaji Galgunde, Arbaaz Shaikh, the entire cast and crew & to Zee. Please watch it if you haven’t already.”
Besides Dangal, Aamir Khan will also be seen in the musical film Secret Superstar, which will roll out in June. The film will mark the directorial debut of Aamir Khan’s former manager Advait Chandan.
There were speculations that Hrithik Roshan will be brought back on board and Amitabh Bachchan will join the Junior Bachchan. But it seems like Aditya Chopra wants to experiment with a new blockbuster cast! And the news is that the actors are none other than Ranveer Singh and Salman Khan!
A report on an entertainment portal suggests that though Salman and Ranveer have been finalized for the film, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra will be missing from the fourth installment of Dhoom franchise. It is also reported that Aditya Chopra wants Dhoom Reloaded to be a film for the youth and Ranveer Singh fits the glove like none other.
The makers are in talks with Salman Khan to play the negative character

Sanjay Leeela Bhansali has just announced his next film project: Padmavati. I think the subject is rich with possibilities. There is Padmavati, the daughter of the Sinhla king Gandharvasena , whose hand Rana Rawat Ratan Singh of Mewar wins after defeating another suitor. Then there is Sultan Allauddeen Khilji who has thwarted many attacks by the Mangols. His general is Malik Kafur. During one of his earlier conquests, he fell in love with effeminate good looks of the boy Malik , bought him off, had him castrated and lived with him as his lover. A musician from the court of Ratan Singh informs the Sultan of the bewitching beauty of Padmavati. The Sultan starts a peace treaty with the Rana and is taken on a tour of the Chittor fort. The Sultan wants a glimpse of the queen. Padamvati does nt want to appear before this stranger, but the Rana does not want to anger the Sultan. It is arranged for the Sultan to see a reflection of the queen on a mirror. The Sultan is smitten with lust and feels he must have her in his harem. He attacks Chittor and holds the fort in seize. Rana can see that defeat is imminent and takes shelter in a Shiv a temple. The queen decides not to succumb to the Sultan and decides to end her life through jauhar. She along with all the ladies of the royal household walk into blazing flames, their funeral pyre. Apart from the main narrative, the period is replete with interesting goings on. This is the time Amir Khusru wrote his qawalis and performed before his maula Nizamuddin Aulia. One can be hopeful of a tale of visual grandeur and intense passion, as Bhansali has already directed an opera in Paris based on the same theme. Take a look at some of the magnificent images from that magnum opus. http://slbfilms.com/work_gallery/opera/16
An excellent insight in to how Gulzar pens such inimitable lyrics and much more in this conversation-
Gulzar is always looking for the right âlafzâ
The poet-lyricist on Tagore, writing for children, the script he has just finished writing and throwing away âobnoxious clichĂŠsâ
Gulzar turns 82 this August. His imagination, dynamism and commitment to the art of visually stirring poetry is still unmatched. Hindi cinemaâs most famous poet, lyricist and graceful renaissance man has adapted to new linguistic paradigms effortlessly, without compromising on the cadence or the nuances of Urdu and Hindi. His latest project, a two-set translation of Rabindranath Tagoreâs two works, is the culmination of a lifelong wish. In an interview at his home in Bandra, Mumbai, Gulzar talks about Tagoreâs influence in his life, writing for a new generation of adults, his films, and the script he has just finished writing. Edited excerpts:
With âBaghban/The Gardenerâ and âNindiya Chor/The Crescent Moonâ, you have achieved your long cherished dream of translating Rabindranath Tagoreâs Bengali poems into Hindi and English. What is Tagoreâs influence in your life? Is it true that he made you a thief?
(Smiles) Well, this is a story that has become a part of my life now. Let me say that discovering Tagore was the turning point of my life. When my family moved to Delhi after Partition, I started working in a small shop that had a small lantern and a chimney. There was a small bookshop nearbyâfrom where I used to borrow jasoosi (detective) novels for four annas.
The man who owned the library got fed up with me because I used to read a book a day. One day, he asked me tersely, âKitni kitaab padh lega? (How many books will you read?)â I said, as many as you have in your shop. So he gave me a dusty, old, thick copy of Tagoreâs Gardener. He must have thought I wouldnât understand this and I especially wouldnât be able to finish it off in one day. The moment I started reading Tagoreâs poems, woh kahin mujhe lag gayi (they touched me) and I never returned that book. So yes, Tagore made me a thief.
But in life you never know what clicks. Tagoreâs poems have remained with me till date. I learnt Bengali just so that I could understand him better. He continues to inspire me. The circle that started forming when I was a child is only growing now. I firmly believe that Tagore should be taught in schools all over India.
Tell us a bit about the process of building these two collections? How long did it take?
It took me five years. I searched for the original poems, uss mein waqt laga (that took time). You donât just land on translations. You read, you follow, you build on it. People think Tagore is only about Gitanjali. That is not his only high. It was a book he wrote to present Indian spiritualism to the West. Mujhe yeh theek karna tha (I wanted to correct that), which became my motive. When I decided to translate his works, I knew it came with great responsibility. He is considered a holy cow. Sabse pehle toh ghar pe maar padti (first I would be criticised at home)â(laughs, referring to his wife Raakhee, a Bengali). I wasnât happy with Tagoreâs own translations in English. Maybe he was, but I wasnât, so I took it upon myself to do it. English mein zubaan ka culture hi nahi aata (English cannot capture the nuances of the language). I have followed his original Bengali works and then translated them. To the best of my efforts, I have remained honest to Tagore. I presented the first copy to President Pranab Mukherjee and he asked me, âYou have done it from Bangla? How?â I replied in Bengali that I could read and speak in Bengali. He did a double take and I felt very honoured when the President spoke about Tagore with me. Even though I received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award from the President, it was only after we discussed Tagore that I felt I had had a conversation with Pranab Mukherjee.
For someone who has such an enviable body of work, how do you keep yourself motivated? How do you choose your projects?
Issi liye toh filmein banani chhod di (This is the reason I stopped making films). There are so many books in my head. See, I donât have unlimited years. I rely on my conviction and devotion to pursue whatever Iâm passionate about. When you find something that makes you feel that only you can do it and nobody else, then you automatically want to do it. Like, now I want to translate the works of the Bangladeshi poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and write a play on the Bangladeshi leader Mujibur Rahman. I recently travelled to Bangladesh to collect material on both these personalities. Now this will keep me going.
And you write every day?
Yes. Every day Iâm in my study. I write. I read. I research. You have to. Lafz dhoondne ke liye kaam toh roz karna padta hai (one has to work hard in order to find the right words).
Literally an entire generation has grown up on your words⌠those who sang âLakdi Ki Kathiâ now sing âTujhse Naaraz Nahin Zindagiâ. Do you feel the power you wield over so many people?
I think I have learnt with my work too. When you are choosing your own way, you end up leaving signposts and, in that process, others can learn too. But there has never been a guarantee that Iâm always on the right path, sometimes if I go wrong then I go wrong. There are a hundred masters you learn from. Kuch kissi se seekhte hain aur kuch kissi aur se (you learn different things from different people). Itâs like Munshi Premchandâs short story Idgah. I read it when I was a child and there was this imagery of Hamidâs dadiâs hands getting burnt as she made rotis. My mother used to make rotis in the tandoor and she also had marks on her arm. When I read the story to my father, he got tears in his eyes and he said, âJao maa ko sunao (read it to your mother)â. She also was touched. I realized that one story touched all three of us.
Thanks for this. A great interview that underlines the fact that an interviewer needs to be wise enough to get the interviewee to give his best. On that note, here’s a wonderful piece on Faiz Ahmed Faiz…
—
Love and Revolution brings to the fore different aspects of this multi-faceted man: activist for human rights and civil liberties, journalist and editor of newspapers and literary magazines, trade unionist, film lyricist, founder of public and cultural institutions, and, of course, one of the most powerful poetic voices to have emerged from South Asia. Beginning with the author’s sharpest memory of his illustrious grandfather – his death and funeral in November 1984 and the mass frenzy it created in Lahore – the book tells the story of Faiz’s tumultuous life in an almost anecdotal manner. Faiz has written compellingly on events that have shaped the destiny of the Indian sub-continent. There is, of course, his haunting elegy to the partition where he refers to the much-awaited dawn of freedom as a ‘night-bitten dawn’ in ‘Yeh daagh daagh ujala, yeh shab-gazida seher’. The most honest rebuttal of the two nation theory and the atrocities unleashed in what later became Bangladesh also came from his pen in ‘Dhaka se wapsi par’.
The penetration of Faiz’s words and ideas into the popular imagination can possibly be gauged by the fact that even over three decades after his death, his words are being used and appropriated by different groups for different purposes. Protestors, be they University teachers or students, chant ‘Bol ke lab azaad hain tere, Bol zubaan ab tak teri hai.’. Pacifists still sing ‘Sipahai ka marsiya’ and those disenchanted with systems of governance still find refuge in ‘Zard patton ka ban jo mera des hai, dard ji anjuman jo mera des haiďż˝
Recently, even Irrfan Khan backed out from the project “Divine Love” wherein he was paired opposite Kangana.
While everyone was expecting a power packed dhamaka from these two versatile actors, Irrfan betrayed everyone by dropping out.
Today at the trailer launch of his upcoming film “Madaari” when we asked Irrfan about this reason for quitting the film he gave a rather sarcastic reply.
Hinting at Kangana’s infamous controversy he said, “Kangana itne pahuch se bahar jaa chuki hai ki agar mujhe unke saath film karni hogi toh mujhe unki heroine banni padegi.”
Adding to it he said, “I will take up the project if she is the hero and I am the heroine then I would love to do it. Kangana ab pahuch k bahar jaa chuki hai. Bahut aage badh chuki hai.”
On a concluding note he said, “Bahut badi ban gayi hai. (She’s a big person now).”
Well, we wonder if by opting out of the film Irrfan is trying to convey that he wants to stay out of Miss Ranaut’s tantrum zone.
âKangana itne pahuch se bahar jaa chuki hai ki agar mujhe unke saath film karni hogi toh mujhe unki heroine banni padegi.â
âI will take up the project if she is the hero and I am the heroine then I would love to do it. Kangana ab pahuch k bahar jaa chuki hai. Bahut aage badh chuki hai.â
âBahut badi ban gayi hai. (Sheâs a big person now).â

HISTORY For Jungle Book In Week Four
Friday 06 May 2016 11.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
The Jungle Book created HISTORY by having the highest fourth week collections ever in India. The film grossed a huge 17 crore nett apprx in week four. The highest grossing fourh weeks now stand as follows.
1. The Jungle Book – 17 crore nett apprx
2. 3 Idiots – 15.95 crore
3. PK – 12.72 crore
4. Bajrangi Bhaijaan – 10.65 crore
5. Bajirao Mastani – 9.43 crore
The film has now grossed 171 crore nett in four weeks. The film has gone into week five with very strong weekday collections but a fifth week record should be impossible as the box office today just does not allow for such records to be set. But on the other hand it has surprised every week till now.

One Night Stand and Traffic can almost be written off but 1920 – London may get some collections to give it an outside chance. The holdover Baaghi should remain the top Hindi film.

Spoilers

Bardwaj Rangan on ”24” starring Suriya-
â24.â⌠An intelligent, joyous mix of sci-fi and masala-myth

His last 2 movies 13B and Manam were also very well executed.

http://www.jantakareporter.com/entertainment/twinkle-khanna-forced-delete-twitter-joke-sri-sri-ravi-shankar-art-intimidation/44896
One of the most politically aware actors, Twinkleâs tweets often brings a smile on your face.
In response to Sr Sriâs controversial statement on Nobel and how Malala was an undeserving recipient of the Peace Prize, Twinkleâs tongue-in-cheek tweet read, â Sri Sri got his nobel foot and half his beard stuck in his mouth in a yogic pose that Baba Ramdev perfected a while ago #HolyMenAndHairyTales (sic)â
sri sri
As expected, the supporters of controversial baba began to troll her with one of Sri Sriâs disciples even intimidating her with a threat to boycott Twinkleâs husband, Akshay Kumarâs next release, Housefull 3.
This prompted Twinkle to delete her âtwitter jokeâ but she posted the following tweet, âDidnât mean to hurt anyoneâs feelings was meant to be a joke and am old enough to accept an error of judgement on my part. Art of living teacher practising Art of intimidation? Didnât like my joke diss me-drag my husband, boycott etc. (sic)â
Art of living teacher practising Art of intimidation? Didn’t like my joke diss me-drag my husband, boycott etc #Shame https://t.co/yFdz8bKHJo
â Twinkle Khanna (@mrsfunnybones) May 8, 2016
But this was too late and many on microblogging site had begun tweeting in her support using the screenshot of her old tweet on Art of Living founderâs controversial statements.
Congress supporter, Suryanarayan Ganesh tweeted, âShame that cheap online goons of a fake baba Sri Sri threatened you into submission. A pious mob they are.â

Other users too posted in Twinkleâs support

â DEBKANCHAN MITRA (@DEBKANCHAN) May 8, 2016

Mr. Mr. @SriSri have some funny bone. Art of Living at least teaches you that. @gsurya https://t.co/0WvZ9Qq78D
â rekha sharma (@rekhaji883) May 8, 2016
Weâve surely not heard the last word on what has a potential to snowball into yet another twitter controversy involving Sri Sri.

It is rumoured that Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone might pair up for their third Bhansali film after ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela: Ram-Leela’ (2013) and ‘Bajirao Mastani’ (2015),

Here’s the video shared by the YRF when they released the first look of Dhoom Reloaded on December ’15:
