Watch or Not?: Surprisingly, Happy Bhag Jayegi is watchable. The film’s comic elements and act keep you entertained. This could easily be a ‘Happy’ family watch.
Rustom Is Excellent On Day Seven

Rustom had a huge day seven with collections going to around 8 crore nett apprx as it got benefit of Raksha Bandhan with some circuits seeing a gain of 50%. Rustom recorded the highest first week collection for an Akshay Kumar starrer comfortable beating Housefull 3 released a few months back. The film has recorded the 17th highest first week of all time. Below are the all time top ten first weeks of Akshay Kumar.

Rustom has done well across the board in week one putting up better figures than Airlift and Housefull 3 in practically all the circuits. The failure of Mohenjo Daro really helped its caused as the business was not shared which would have happened if Mohenjo Daro was accepted. The Mumbai circuit is closing on in 30 crore nett in just seven days which is huge (the total business of Housefull 3 in Mumbai was 35 crore nett apprx).
The film got a huge Monday due to Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan also bumped it up on Thursday which helped weekday business immensely. The film will probably see its first noticeable drop on its eighth day but it is the day eight business and ninth day day jump which will tell if the film will go to 125 crore nett or even higher.

Mohenjo Daro had a poor first week as it grossed around 50 crore nett. The film was average on Sunday and Monday but both days were holidays and after Monday the film dropped badly. The film is the fourth highest first week for Hrithik Roshan. Below are the all time top ten first weeks of Hrithik Roshan.

Rustom continued to dominate the box office as it went into its second week. Happy Bhaag Jayegi was the main new Hindi release but Rustom was well ahead of that film despite it being day eight for Rustom. Happy Bhaag Jayegi opened around 10% and the opening morning numbers are lower than Aisha (2010) which was a similar type of film featuring Abhay Deol. The opening shows are better than his last film One By Two (2014) though. The film probably only has chances in Delhi NCR and East Punjab mainly but these markets had to open much better to make a big difference to the all India collections. Happy Bhaag Jayegi will probably show good growth in Delhi NCR and East Punjab tomorrow but other circuits will find it tough going as opening is too low especially in East, CP Berar and Nizam / Andhra.
Rustom will be the leading film this week as it continues its good run all over. The film had an excellent Thursday due to Raksha Bandhan so a drop will be on the cards but momentum should pick up again on Saturday. The film has good chances to beat the second week figures of Airlift even though that film went tax free in UP in week two which helped its nett collections. The collections of Mohenjo Daro have dropped but unless there is a good pick for Happy Bhaag Jayegi then even Mohenjo Daro could be challenging the new release day one figures on day eight. The other new release was Unindian which is a English – Hindi film and these do not have any takers in India. Then there were films like Lucchey Laffange, Meeradha and Real Champion which have no awareness and collections will reflect that.
Recently Shah Rukh Khan was detained at US Airport and now Shabana Azmi, who was there for a film’s shoot. The veteran actress landed at Chicago O’hare International airport; as soon as she arrived the security personnel asked her the reason for her visit to US.
She replied, “I very innocently said I had come for shooting. The immigration officer was shocked. ‘Whom have you come to shoot?’ he asked me.. His shock was palpable. I calmed him down and corrected myself, ‘I’m filming. Only slightly relieved he said ‘Why did you say shooting?’ he scolded me. I told him it’s a cultural thing. Really, are we actors supposed to stop saying we’re shooting merely because the word has alarming connotations?
After explaining that the immigration officer let her pass through! Good security or uninformed security? What should we call it?
It was foolish on her part to give that answer when the same word is used in many context.
Their job is to make sure you have proper documents and you are there for purpose which is somewhat in Visa type. Any kind of frivolous reply will land you in complication.
In what is perhaps one of the quirkiest incidents, actor Neil Nitin Mukesh was detained in New York for over an hour in 2009 because immigration officials didn’t believe the actor was Indian given his fair skin. US judge sends 83-year-old father of Indian-American Congressman Ami Bera to prison for a year
In a case that drew wide attention because of the age of the defendant, District Judge Troy Nunley showed little sympathy for Babulal Bera despite his advanced years and medical condition that included spinal surgeries and recovery from prostrate cancer.
“This is more than just a naive person who doesn’t know how elections work. The defendant’s efforts were calculated,” he observed during the sentencing hearing in Sacramento, California, rejecting a probation officer’s recommendation that he be spared time behind bars.
Although there is no age limit to serving in prison, the officer had cited two sections of federal sentencing guidelines addressing a defendant’s age and family ties and responsibilities while making the case for non-custodial probation.
In court filings, Bera Sr’s attorneys also showed that he has had two knee replacement operations, two spinal surgeries and prostate cancer, for which he continues to receive regular checkups.
The senior Bera had pleaded guilty in May to laundering $260,000 in illegal contributions to his son’s campaign through straw donors.
Swimmer Yusra Mardini, part of a team made up of refugees at the Rio Olympics, has thanked Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan for extending support to her and the team.
“Hrithik, thank you so much for supporting Team Refugees. It means a lot for us that one of the most successful actors is supporting us,” Mardini wrote on Friday in response to the actor’s last week’s post.
Hrithik had posted a thought-provoking tweet to support a team which was representing no nation.
The actor had specifically expressed his support to Mardini, who competed for the 100 meter butterfly and freestyle heats.
He had tweeted: “It’s incredibly cool to have included displaced sportsmen in Olympics… This time as refugee Olympic team. They don’t have a nation. Let’s all cheer for them.”
“I cheer for Yusra Mardini, a real life hero who saved lives through her swimming and is part of refugee Olympic athletes team,” added the “Mohenjo Daro” actor.

‘Ben-Hur’ crashes, ‘Suicide Squad’ stays on top for 3rd week
NEW YORK (AP) — A big-budget remake of ‘Ben-Hur’ was trampled under a herd of holdovers and new releases at the box office, the latest casualty in a bruising summer for Hollywood.
The Paramount Pictures release, which cost about $100 million to make, debuted with just $11.4 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. That makes it one of the season’s more pricy flops, albeit one that never had anything like the ambition of 1959’s Charlton Heston epic.
Instead, Warner Bros.’s much-maligned DC Comics supervillain team-up film “Suicide Squad” held the top spot for the third straight week with an estimated $20.7 million over its third weekend. It has now made $262.3 million domestically (fourth best for the summer) despite steep declines and poor reaction from critics and fans, alike.
SRK almost confirmed for D4 along with Ranveer. Very surprising news that they went for SRK..Salman should have been an obvious choice. Also surprised SRK accepting this over Padmavati.
Not surprised SRK chose it tbh- he’s always wanted to do Bad ass/Action/ VFX movies and Dhoom is a platform like that but it’ll probably suck if it’s directed by the D3 director or even Aditya Choora. I feel like SRK has a very good line up, maybe some solid films and blockbusters- Dear Zindafi, Raees, Imtiaz Ali film, Anand Rai film, Aditya Chopra’s next, Don 3, some sort of VFX film/sequel to RA. 1, another Rohit Shetty movie probably, a rumored SLB movie with Kanagana…but everything will Underperform or flop or at best get Fan’s level of praise but nothing better because he just seems to have lost Box Office Pull and interest…maybe he can pull an akshay and regain audience support (on a higher level, like consistent 150-200 Crores) but by then who knows where Aamir Salman and the newcomers have set the benchmark…

The great Indian holiday weekends are now squarely and sharply booked. As the entire entertainment industry knows, the holi festival of Eid is reserved for Salman Khan starrers. Shah Rukh Khan’s films are traditionally released for Diwali while Aamir Khan’s films are solemnly scheduled for Christmas.
And now Akshay Kumar has taken over the long box office-friendly Independence Day weekend.
In 2015 Akshay’s pugilistic film Brothers released on August 13. In 2016 it is the blockbuster Rustom on August 12 which has already earned Rs 100 crores at the Indian box office.
And now Akshay has teamed up with producer-director Neeraj Pandey for Crack which will release for Independence Day 2017.
Trade pundit Taran Adarsh welcomes the trend of superstars patenting public holidays as their release date. “Shah Rukh Khan’s movies have been released during Diwali since Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. Aamir Khan’s films release in Christmas. Salman arrives during Eid. And now Akshay’s movies have staked claim during the Independence Day weekend. If one notices carefully, the actors, along with their respective film producers/ Studios, are eyeing holidays plus extended weekends. That helps the film recover a big chunk of business during the initial weekend itself and continue the glorious run, if the film is accepted by moviegoers, beyond the weekend too.”
Taran feels in today’s box office conditions the first three days determine the movie’s fate. “The Day 1 total, the opening weekend statistics and the first week’s business have become all-important and not just those within the film industry, but even the common man keeps tabs on the day-to-day business of films nowadays. A big, fat weekend means, the star power is intact and naturally, the holiday period helps the business to a major extent. To remain a strong contender in the eyes of the film fraternity and also the paying public is utmost important these days. That explains why actors and film-makers eye festivals, national holidays or important dates that ensure a strong total.”
Says trade analyst Atul Mohan, “Well you can say Akshay is the new Manoj Kumar the patriotic hero of our times after Baby, Gabbar Is Back, Airlift and Rustom. Each star mentioned above have created an identity synonymous with the major festive season over the last few years. It’s not that Akshay Kumar has discovered this new release strategy now. If you look closely his major films have coincided with weekends of Republic Day or Independence Day from the beginning of his career. But nowadays the business of films have become majorly dependent on national holidays or festivals and if a star has created an identity for his films’ release then it’s good for all associated.”
Rustom Makes 170% Profit At The Box Office

Akshay Kumar and Ileana D’Cruz starrer Rustom is enjoying success at the box office. Made on a budget of 40 crores including P and A, the film has earned 108* crores till now.
It has made a profit of 68 crores which takes its profit percentage to 170% at the domestic box office.
Rustom is currently 4th most profitable film of 2016, after Neerja, Sultan and Airlift.
This thriller is directed by Tinu Suresh Desai and it also features Esha Gupta, Arjan Bajwa and Pavan Malhotra in pivotal roles.
Kabali crosses 12 cr share in Chennai city and is now the No 1 grosser of all time in the city.
To give a better understanding of TN, Chennai is the smallest market in TN. Chengalpet and Coimbatore together with Chennai are called the 3C’s and Chengapet and Coimbatore are bigger markets. These three will constitute 65% of total TN shares. Then you have North and South Arcot, Madurai, Trichy-Thanjavur (TT), Salem, Tirunelveli-Kanyakumari (TK) which are other territories which accounts for the rest. The movie has done roaring business in the 3C’s and average in the B and C centres of TN. Overall the movie is a Blockbuster in TN.
Shankar’s magnum opus “I” was one of the biggest hits of 2015. Having released for Pongal in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, it got an earth-shattering opening worldwide but received mixed reviews. Shankar’s usual suspense and thrills went missing. But it did not impact the film much at the box office as audience appreciated the commitment from the entire team behind the flick. In Chennai, it set a new benchmark by raking in around Rs 9.70 crore, little short of the magical Rs 10-crore mark.
Its just the history of which movies were top grossers in Chennai. I must have been behind Endhiran….This is only top grossers in a city list…Think you read it wrong…Singam 2 did 10.5 cr, it also is not in the list because it still didn’t beat the leader at that time…

I outpaces Enthiran on worldwide numbers for opening day, weekend, week. On overall worldwide gross it’s 85 crores ahead of Theri. A film doesn’t do all of this without breaking some sort of Chennai city record! Not sure about the 17 crores behind woods mentions for Enthiran. It might be Chennai circuit, normally they talk only about the city in their box office columns but sometimes they talk about ‘surroundings’ as well. Either way I is called record setting in multiple pieces on the Chennai city collections.
Again, this is just chennai city not Tamil Nadu. Singam 2 did 10.5 cr but won’t be in list as it didn’t beat the then leader. I did 9.7 cr as you mentioned.
Their after week 3 was 8.76 cr (and still doing 1 cr that week) , Week 4 it had cross 9.7 cr…By end it reached 11.5 cr and I remember it as I was tracking it till around Week 8…It will be there in archives of BW. Just not sure how to pull it out
I remember tracking I also and I think that 9.7 cr is what I remember too..Overall I did around 80 cr gross in Chennai, Theri did around 70 cr much lesser than I…But Where I really did great was worldwide as you rightly put it.
To give an example, I is the biggest Tamil grosser in Kerala around 19.5 cr. Even kabali fell short of it; it did around 16 cr. Interestingly the second biggest Tamil grosser in Kerela is Theri….
Even in AP I was out of the world with around 60 cr gross which is humungous….Overall I did around 185 cr gross with a net of 148 cr in India…If i add overseas, around 240 cr gross….
Theri of course was not big outside TN and Kerala as Vijay doesn’t have a market in AP…
Its quite possible that a movie does phenomenally well in Chennai city…Kabali itself has broken Theris record to become highest grosser in Chennai….
but even accepting all this why isn’t I on the list you initially quoted when a number of pieces called it record-breaking precisely in Chennai city? I am not really referring to the overall South gross of I or the international one except to show that when a film puts such huge benchmark numbers everywhere and certainly in the initial week or more it’s not likely to fall short of that record in Chennai city! Which is again what some of the pieces are saying. By the way at least at the time I was considered an underperformer in AP. Did well enough but they paid very high prices for it. Anniyan did very well in TN but even better in AP. With I it was almost the opposite for this. The point again being that proportionately TN was a much stronger market for it. And you can’t get those kinds of numbers in TN without running up the score in Chennai.
Because it didn’t cross Endhiran which was the top grosser at that time na?..It did 9.66 cr , Endhiran would have been around 11cr. Whats confusing here? It can still be huge without crossing Endhiran…Am i missing something?
Record breaking is fine, it can still break a lot of other records. Chennai is not the biggest market in TN…
Sultan is way out ahead with 585 crore and Rustom is odds on for 200 crore plus while Dishoom and Mohenjo Daro have also crossed 100 crore. The above ten films are the only ones to go above 100 crore Worldwide. Rustom is likely to be the highest grossing Akshay Kumar film worldwide while Dishoom is the second highest grossing Varun Dhawan film outside ABCD 2 (Dilwale not counted). The film could have gone to 125 crore but the release of Rustom and Mohenjo Daro saw it taken off most theatres.
Mohenjo Daro is a huge under performer but has sneaked above 100 crore worldwide giving Hrithik Roshan his ninth worldwide 100 crore film. Two of which Krrish 3 and Bang abng have crossed 250 crore.
the unbelievable thing about MD’s India numbers is that in absolute terms it’s going to do less than JA or at the most the very same depending on whose numbers you believe. of course JA released 8 years ago, was itself an underperformer which opened weakly, trending was fine at a somewhat lower end but it also had length issues in terms of number of shows:
Initially I thought it wouldn’t do more than 65, then with the first four days doing about 40 I thought it might add another 10 or so. Now it won’t even do 60. If one wants to use BV as a comparison and say it’s better than that film’s 35 lotsa luck!
Hrithik Roshan and Ashutosh Gowariker fall out over ‘Mohenjo Daro’s failure?
Hrithik Roshan was extremely hopeful about his last film Mohenjo Daro to do well at the box office. But the film tanked without any trace. For a film with high production cost and investment, Mohenjo Daro could not even manage to recover even half of its investment from the domestic collections at the BO.
This has left Hrithik fuming. Hrithik who feels Ashutosh is responsible for the debacle had allegedly sent some angry texts to the filmmaker expressing his displeasure over the film’s final outcome. Ashu also didn’t take it lying down.
Ashutosh reportedly has replied back too in a powerful tone and it has already strained their relationship. Now with Kaabil clashing with Raees, we wonder what’s on Duggu’s mind.
Ashutosh Gowarikar should start doing small films with small actors to be viable at the bo. That is the only way for him to unlearn and start with a fresh approach. Even his tv venture did not do well in terms of trp.
Sanjana, Gowarikar already did that – Khele Hum Jee jaan se with smaller stars. No one went to see that movie except those who got free seats with popcorn.
Actually I did watch Mohenjo Daro over the 2nd weekend as I wanted to catch it on big screen. Frankly the movie isn’t bad if you ignore the historical connection. It is just another routine commercial Hindi flick story and if you watch it in that perspective the movie appears timepass and alright. The reason where the movie fails is the lack of creativity in story and adding cinematic vision to the proceedings. It is made very sincerely, albiet too sincerely and comes across as TV series and not a movie. Though Ashutosh has done well with the editing and pacing and tried to wrap this movie in 2.5 hours itself is an achievment. Hrithik performed alright but he’s same as any other movie. Doens’t look like the BC guy and to me that’s a fail. Songs are not great shakes on screen( they cut the Sarsariya, which I wanted to watch on big screen). Overall, some instances are directed well but Ashu went back to ‘Baazi’ days by making a commercial potboiler and just placing it in Mohenjo Daro. So, that’s again a fail IMO. Some parts of story also resembled Bahubali and that’s another tall order to fulfill for Ashu.
Hrithik was fine but its not going to help in career as even the acting didn’t get registered. Pooja Hedge was alright.. no great shakes. Kabir Bedi actually surprised me as he did his role with lot of effort and take. I thought he couldn’t do even 2 mins role in Dilwale well but here he got the mail villain and he did good. But I don’t think anyone’s interested in seeing him on big screen for so long and we needed another actor for that role who would have added more freshness as its lengthy role. Nitish Bharadwaj (Krishna from TV Mahabharat series) is another suprise to watch it on big screen although his character or acting isn’t something to talk about. Overall, watch it incase you want to see and easily can be skipped.
He first spoke about how he was given the royal ignore by the Pulp Fiction director. It happened in London where Ranbir was shooting for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. At the same time, Quentin Tarantino was promoting his latest film, The Hateful Eight there. When Ranbir heard about this, the fanboy in him got excited. He said, “I was shooting in a basement and he was in the building. I heard that he was doing an interview so I went running up. I told Karan, “Listen, I have to meet him.” Not that I’m going to say that I’m an actor from India. I just wanted to meet him, take a picture, an autograph. I saw him coming and from far I’m saying, “Quentin, Quentin.” He walks, looks at me, goes and sits in his car. When the door opens, I’m like, “Sir, picture picture?”and they have it on video.”
Poor Ranbir! Naturally he got teased by the crew for this. “It was really funny and I got teased by the entire crew of Ae Dil, but just to see Quentin Tarantino.”
However his encounter with Natalie Portman was more humiliating, as the Black Swan actress actually told him to get lost! He recollected this ‘shameful’ incident that happened in Tribeca, “She was on the phone and she was crying. I went quickly behind her and said, “I love your…” Before I could say “work”, she turned and said, “Get lost!”

Amitabh should had been careful .Amitabh was heavily banking the next film which was ” main azaad hoon” although the film was very good but somehow public rejected the film it became the biggest flop of the year where that year the biggest blockbuster was ” maine pyar kiya ” allus debutant..

BOI thinks that Bwood history started in 1990. Their all time lists have no mention of any movie prior to 1990!! They dont even mention lack of data as a reason anywhere on their website.

The word “confidence” comes up again and again in “Sultan,” and it speaks to the trauma an old society undergoes as it tries to absorb the appeal of a foreign culture, while at the same time trying to remain true to itself and its genius
I agree with very little in this piece. In more general terms Taseer doesn’t really describe contemporary Bollywood. It would be better in this sense talking about Tamil or Telugu cinema or an older Hindi cinema. For some of Salman’s films this holds but this brand of masala is still mostly the exception when it comes to Hindi cinema. In other words Bollywood is precisely the industry that by and large does not reflect the ‘fault-lines’ of its society except for a very rarefied group of viewers. Sultan too is symptomatic in this sense. This is desi Rocky if you will. A poster film for the contradictions of Modi-fied India where the colonizer can be beaten at his game only by returning to a certain ‘nativism’ (the ‘chaiwala’ as ultimate ambassador for India’s globalization moment). Put differently within this globalized order various nativisms become the ultimate means of ‘belonging’. There is the Indian chapter, the Chinese chapter, the Turkish one and so on. These ‘traditions’ are preserved as various local exotica underlining a universal-triumphalist vision of global capital. All native traditions are welcome and confirm the original hypothesis. Now I certainly understand the potency of this move in popular culture. The Lagaan moment if you will. Beating the colonizer at his game without following necessarily all his ‘rules’ or certainly the ethical underpinnings of the same. But Lagaan is a poetic fairy tale whereas Sultan is about crude chest-beating. And here too Taseer is problematic. “civilizational anger” takes different forms in different cultures. Or the response to this sort of global cultural hegemony, the contradictory spaces occupied by the colonized one way or the other, these are differently framed in different contexts. It would be great if the manifestation of “civilizational anger” in contemporary India were restricted to the crude jingoisms of Sultan (it would be a pretty harmless phenomenon in that case) but (and unfortunately) that is hardly the case. Islamist violence is a category all its own because it’s so ‘global’. At the same time it is as colonized in its violence as any other form of resistance that Taseer presumably prefers. In much the same way Hindutva is another such totally colonized response and for instance the politics of Erdogan in Turkey is yet another. And one could go around the world in this sense. It would be an easy world if certain forms of civilizational anger could simply be released by way of popular entertainment. But the latter is always symptomatic. Much as in the 70s the ‘violence’ of those movies was equally a symptom of much greater unease and economies of violence in the nation. Finally I’d say Taseer almost offers a hopelessly seamless view of the processes of colonization (in his idealized version). This is a total fantasy. And surprising coming from this author given his work elsewhere. I can only surmise that he was moved enough by Sultan to engage in a rather spontaneous piece which offers some interesting ideas but isn’t really well thought out.

This year saw the Akshay Kumar starrer easily get the better of the Hrithik Roshan starrer Mohenjo Daro but to take on a Shahrukh Khan starrer is a different ball game.

The clout of the star ensured a far bigger opening in India and Worldwide it was still a bigger grosser despite the film not being liked as to Bajirao Mastani which was said to be hugely appreciated.
The Shahrukh Khan starrer is an Overseas musical love story on a big canvas so if Crack was a potential action blockbuster ala Rowdy Rathore this clash could have been a real battle but it seems a Neeraj Pandey film from the poster who has made films like Special 26 and Baby which did not find appreciation at the box office with 65 crore and 82 crore respectively and also found no appreciation on television being among the worst Akshay Kumar performers. They were targeted at the multiplex audience so it will probably be the same again but it would be tough to survive on just multiplexes if it comes up against the Shahrukh Khan film.

Ashutosh Gowariker has had brickbats coming his way since his historical project, Mohenjo Daro, hit theatres earlier this month. The reaction was more or less expected, considering a cold response to the trailer of the Hrithik Roshan-starrer. But, the director is taking the criticism in his stride and promises to “fix” the “wrongs” in future.
Addressing mass communication students at a seminar as part of the 7th Jagran Film Festival in Bhopal, Mr Gowariker said, “Many critics and viewers have pointed out that the costumes are not from that era (2016 BC) and the dialect was not right. But, I urge people not to pay heed to such details. We prepared everything having consulted with archaeologists and have tried to keep it as real as possible.”
He added that despite the barrage of criticism, he and his team are happy with how the film shaped up. “Everyone worked really hard and we’d hoped that the audience will appreciate our efforts. My main motive was to bring on celluloid the beauty and charm of a period left unexplored. This is a matter of national identity which hasn’t been showcased in cinema before. I collected information from archaeologists, but wrote the screenplay keeping in mind the human element, blending fact with fiction,” he explained.
Mr Gowariker went on to add that he always tries to keep a film’s story relatable to today’s audience lest it be labelled a documentary. “While writing a historical film, I ensure that it has contemporary relevance. The one thing about Mohenjo Daro’s theme was how a beautiful culture and civilisation was wiped out by a man-made disaster. The villain (played by Kabir Bedi) erects a dam which causes massive floods in the region. Even today, the whole world is talking about global warming, but no one is doing anything about it. I want to show the common link between 2016 BC and 2016 AD. I also wanted to set a love story with a backdrop of a culture and civilisation relatively unknown,” he waxed eloquent.
The filmmaker finally admitted that a film’s failure sends him into introspection mode and saddens him too. The filmmaker’s last directorial venture, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se (2010), was a period drama based on the 1930 Chittagong uprising, and was panned by critics and the audience alike.

“When I make period films, people ask why I don’t move out of that genre. When I try my hand at normal films like What’s Your Rashee (2009), people say I should concentrate on period films only. I don’t want to blame the audience; I did that earlier in my career, but over the years, I have realised that the audience is always right. I try to internalise their feedback. I want to figure out what went wrong and why so that I can fix it in future,” he said.
Commenting on costumes is plain silly. Even Ashu mentioned before release.. the women were practically nude and wore very less clothes and he can’t be possibly showing them in that attire just to appease the critics and be correct about it. They could have done a little better but that’s not the point about the movie where 99% is fiction.

While BOI is giving a clean chit to SRK, I will not. I think this will be an even fight, though can give SRK a 1% edge because of his capability to do 200+Cr grossers given a right movie, which Akshay has never done. Now the question is – Is Imtiaz movie a right vehicle for him. We know Neeraj’s movie is for Akshay despire S26 and Baby not even a clean hit. Its was BIG prestige hit, which was rubbed off with Rustom.
Well Akshay Kumar coming after a superb and hat trick hits in 2016 and then with the next assured hit Jolly LLB 2 (sequel to a national award winning hit movie) in Feb and before the the monstrous 2.0 releasing in Diwali 2017, Akshay Kumar has nothing to lose with this clash.
And beware of Akshay Kumar in a patriotic movie @ Independence day holiday.
Good point but I believe some movies are bigger than stars. Now Robot was the highest dubbed movie of its time(whatever that number was 18 crores) and it has huge TV run and was always in news like a Hindi movie(SRK was supposed to do it 1 time). Now Bahubali has showed the way and movies can do more boxoffice returns(not a regular Rajini movie like Kabali) if there is merit. I don’t think it will be perceived as Akshay kumar movie as of now. Akki will surely bring in opening factor and all but lets try to see the role and if he manages to steal the show in his villain’s act.
Now, Sanjay Dutt’s next solo movie will not even cross 50 crores but if he does Munnabhai 3, it won’t do less than 200 crores! Its not that Sanjay Dutt suddenly becomes Super star, he won’t.. he didn’t even after part 2’s huge success.
The movie will be dubbed in Tamil in Hindi markets too. But I do agree broadly with the statement that Rajni has no standing in North. But I dont think the Hindi version will do better than what Bahubali did.
The bulk of the business will be in South and abroad. And since the main market is South for a Rajni movie, expect this to be an out and out Rajni movie as they wont compromise on the main market. Don’t expect Akki to get the footage which Rajni got in Robo as villain. The South audience wont accept any villain making a fool of Rajni…The dynamics are very different in a Rajni movie….Villians don’t get equal footage in his movies unless Rajni is the villain too
One more thing, I wont be surprised if Chitti is also present in the movie as a good robo…Because purely going by the first movie, the scientist Rajni was an unremarkable character.
Except for the last sentence, think this is a very fair post. Imtiaz will make good movies but not sure of the reach. Same for Neeraj Pandey…I have heard the movie is a comedy and that might change the stakes a bit in favor of SRK. Even otherwise I think a SRK movie will command more attention for sure. But Imtiaz movie can restrict it.
BTW I don’t think this clash will happen. Both movies are yet to start shooting and a lot of things can happen between now and next year
Akshay Kumar to shoot Toilet – Ek Prem Katha before Neeraj Pandey’s Crack
We had reported earlier that Akshay Kumar will be starring in Neeraj Pandey’s satirical comedy, Toilet-Ek Prem Katha. The actor-filmmaker duo will also be working together in a film titled Crack. The first look of the film was unveiled on Independence day.
While some speculated that Toilet-Ek Prem Katha and Crack were the same films with Crack as the new title, it has been learned that they both are two different films. According to a leading daily, Akshay Kumar will be shooting for the former movie first before beginning the shoot of Crack. Actress Bhumi Pednekar also stars in Toilet-Ek Prem Katha and it is inspired from Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan, a cleanliness drive started by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Directed by Neeraj Pandey and produced by Abundantia Entertainment along with Friday Filmworks, Toilet – Ek Prem Katha will be a light hearted film with a realistic touch. As of now, Akshay Kumar has started shooting for another satirical comedy Jolly LLB 2.
Funny part is both movies by Neeraj Pandey to be released in single year. Don’t remember this happening unless it was David Dhawan Salman/Govinda in recent era.
Guys abhi dilli door hai. Lets not talk about all these clashes as right now we are still in Aug 2016 and talking about Aug 2017.

What’s Good: This film’s soul lies in its dialogues and the comic relief instilled in them. A clever writing holds this film together.
What’s Bad: With too many sub-plots, the film’s second half seems stretched.
Loo Break: Sometime in the second half!
Watch or Not?: Surprisingly, Happy Bhag Jayegi is watchable. The film’s comic elements and act keep you entertained. This could easily be a ‘Happy’ family watch.

Rustom had a huge day seven with collections going to around 8 crore nett apprx as it got benefit of Raksha Bandhan with some circuits seeing a gain of 50%. Rustom recorded the highest first week collection for an Akshay Kumar starrer comfortable beating Housefull 3 released a few months back. The film has recorded the 17th highest first week of all time. Below are the all time top ten first weeks of Akshay Kumar.

2. Housefull 3 (2016) – 80.02 crore
3. Airlift (2016) – 79.29 crore
4. Rowdy Rathore (2012) – 75.52 crore

Rustom has done well across the board in week one putting up better figures than Airlift and Housefull 3 in practically all the circuits. The failure of Mohenjo Daro really helped its caused as the business was not shared which would have happened if Mohenjo Daro was accepted. The Mumbai circuit is closing on in 30 crore nett in just seven days which is huge (the total business of Housefull 3 in Mumbai was 35 crore nett apprx).
The film got a huge Monday due to Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan also bumped it up on Thursday which helped weekday business immensely. The film will probably see its first noticeable drop on its eighth day but it is the day eight business and ninth day day jump which will tell if the film will go to 125 crore nett or even higher.

Will Henderson, the character that Lee essays in UNIndian, is an affable teacher of Aussie English to foreign students of the University of New South Wales.
He could well be mistaken for the most benign and unassuming soul in the whole of the Antipodes.
The first-time actor, without being in total control of the dynamics of acting, serves as the ideal foil to Tannishtha Chatterjee, whose expressive face does all the communicating while Lee’s steady gaze and understated dialogue delivery does all the receiving, completing the film’s emotional circuit.

Ruston Continues To Dominate – Happy Bhaag Jayegi Low

Rustom continued to dominate the box office as it went into its second week. Happy Bhaag Jayegi was the main new Hindi release but Rustom was well ahead of that film despite it being day eight for Rustom. Happy Bhaag Jayegi opened around 10% and the opening morning numbers are lower than Aisha (2010) which was a similar type of film featuring Abhay Deol. The opening shows are better than his last film One By Two (2014) though. The film probably only has chances in Delhi NCR and East Punjab mainly but these markets had to open much better to make a big difference to the all India collections. Happy Bhaag Jayegi will probably show good growth in Delhi NCR and East Punjab tomorrow but other circuits will find it tough going as opening is too low especially in East, CP Berar and Nizam / Andhra.
Rustom will be the leading film this week as it continues its good run all over. The film had an excellent Thursday due to Raksha Bandhan so a drop will be on the cards but momentum should pick up again on Saturday. The film has good chances to beat the second week figures of Airlift even though that film went tax free in UP in week two which helped its nett collections. The collections of Mohenjo Daro have dropped but unless there is a good pick for Happy Bhaag Jayegi then even Mohenjo Daro could be challenging the new release day one figures on day eight. The other new release was Unindian which is a English – Hindi film and these do not have any takers in India. Then there were films like Lucchey Laffange, Meeradha and Real Champion which have no awareness and collections will reflect that.

Recently Shah Rukh Khan was detained at US Airport and now Shabana Azmi, who was there for a film’s shoot. The veteran actress landed at Chicago O’hare International airport; as soon as she arrived the security personnel asked her the reason for her visit to US.
She replied, “I very innocently said I had come for shooting. The immigration officer was shocked. ‘Whom have you come to shoot?’ he asked me.. His shock was palpable. I calmed him down and corrected myself, ‘I’m filming. Only slightly relieved he said ‘Why did you say shooting?’ he scolded me. I told him it’s a cultural thing. Really, are we actors supposed to stop saying we’re shooting merely because the word has alarming connotations?
After explaining that the immigration officer let her pass through! Good security or uninformed security? What should we call it?

US judge sends 83-year-old father of Indian-American Congressman Ami Bera to prison for a year
In a case that drew wide attention because of the age of the defendant, District Judge Troy Nunley showed little sympathy for Babulal Bera despite his advanced years and medical condition that included spinal surgeries and recovery from prostrate cancer.
“This is more than just a naive person who doesn’t know how elections work. The defendant’s efforts were calculated,” he observed during the sentencing hearing in Sacramento, California, rejecting a probation officer’s recommendation that he be spared time behind bars.
Although there is no age limit to serving in prison, the officer had cited two sections of federal sentencing guidelines addressing a defendant’s age and family ties and responsibilities while making the case for non-custodial probation.
In court filings, Bera Sr’s attorneys also showed that he has had two knee replacement operations, two spinal surgeries and prostate cancer, for which he continues to receive regular checkups.
The senior Bera had pleaded guilty in May to laundering $260,000 in illegal contributions to his son’s campaign through straw donors.

Swimmer Yusra Mardini, part of a team made up of refugees at the Rio Olympics, has thanked Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan for extending support to her and the team.
“Hrithik, thank you so much for supporting Team Refugees. It means a lot for us that one of the most successful actors is supporting us,” Mardini wrote on Friday in response to the actor’s last week’s post.
Hrithik had posted a thought-provoking tweet to support a team which was representing no nation.
The actor had specifically expressed his support to Mardini, who competed for the 100 meter butterfly and freestyle heats.
He had tweeted: “It’s incredibly cool to have included displaced sportsmen in Olympics… This time as refugee Olympic team. They don’t have a nation. Let’s all cheer for them.”

NEW YORK (AP) — A big-budget remake of ‘Ben-Hur’ was trampled under a herd of holdovers and new releases at the box office, the latest casualty in a bruising summer for Hollywood.
The Paramount Pictures release, which cost about $100 million to make, debuted with just $11.4 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. That makes it one of the season’s more pricy flops, albeit one that never had anything like the ambition of 1959’s Charlton Heston epic.
Instead, Warner Bros.’s much-maligned DC Comics supervillain team-up film “Suicide Squad” held the top spot for the third straight week with an estimated $20.7 million over its third weekend. It has now made $262.3 million domestically (fourth best for the summer) despite steep declines and poor reaction from critics and fans, alike.

Not surprised SRK chose it tbh- he’s always wanted to do Bad ass/Action/ VFX movies and Dhoom is a platform like that but it’ll probably suck if it’s directed by the D3 director or even Aditya Choora. I feel like SRK has a very good line up, maybe some solid films and blockbusters- Dear Zindafi, Raees, Imtiaz Ali film, Anand Rai film, Aditya Chopra’s next, Don 3, some sort of VFX film/sequel to RA. 1, another Rohit Shetty movie probably, a rumored SLB movie with Kanagana…but everything will Underperform or flop or at best get Fan’s level of praise but nothing better because he just seems to have lost Box Office Pull and interest…maybe he can pull an akshay and regain audience support (on a higher level, like consistent 150-200 Crores) but by then who knows where Aamir Salman and the newcomers have set the benchmark…

Taran feels in today’s box office conditions the first three days determine the movie’s fate. “The Day 1 total, the opening weekend statistics and the first week’s business have become all-important and not just those within the film industry, but even the common man keeps tabs on the day-to-day business of films nowadays. A big, fat weekend means, the star power is intact and naturally, the holiday period helps the business to a major extent. To remain a strong contender in the eyes of the film fraternity and also the paying public is utmost important these days. Says trade analyst Atul Mohan, “Well you can say Akshay is the new Manoj Kumar the patriotic hero of our times after Baby, Gabbar Is Back, Airlift and Rustom. Rustom Makes 170% Profit At The Box Office

Akshay Kumar and Ileana D’Cruz starrer Rustom is enjoying success at the box office. Made on a budget of 40 crores including P and A, the film has earned 108* crores till now.
It has made a profit of 68 crores which takes its profit percentage to 170% at the domestic box office.
Rustom is currently 4th most profitable film of 2016, after Neerja, Sultan and Airlift.

To give a better understanding of TN, Chennai is the smallest market in TN. Chengalpet and Coimbatore together with Chennai are called the 3C’s and Chengapet and Coimbatore are bigger markets. These three will constitute 65% of total TN shares. Then you have North and South Arcot, Madurai, Trichy-Thanjavur (TT), Salem, Tirunelveli-Kanyakumari (TK) which are other territories which accounts for the rest. The movie has done roaring business in the 3C’s and average in the B and C centres of TN. Overall the movie is a Blockbuster in TN.

I outpaces Enthiran on worldwide numbers for opening day, weekend, week. On overall worldwide gross it’s 85 crores ahead of Theri. A film doesn’t do all of this without breaking some sort of Chennai city record! Not sure about the 17 crores behind woods mentions for Enthiran. It might be Chennai circuit, normally they talk only about the city in their box office columns but sometimes they talk about ‘surroundings’ as well. Either way I is called record setting in multiple pieces on the Chennai city collections.

Their after week 3 was 8.76 cr (and still doing 1 cr that week) , Week 4 it had cross 9.7 cr…By end it reached 11.5 cr and I remember it as I was tracking it till around Week 8…It will be there in archives of BW. Just not sure how to pull it out

I remember tracking I also and I think that 9.7 cr is what I remember too..Overall I did around 80 cr gross in Chennai, Theri did around 70 cr much lesser than I…But Where I really did great was worldwide as you rightly put it.
To give an example, I is the biggest Tamil grosser in Kerala around 19.5 cr. Even kabali fell short of it; it did around 16 cr. Interestingly the second biggest Tamil grosser in Kerela is Theri….
Even in AP I was out of the world with around 60 cr gross which is humungous….Overall I did around 185 cr gross with a net of 148 cr in India…If i add overseas, around 240 cr gross….
Theri of course was not big outside TN and Kerala as Vijay doesn’t have a market in AP…
Its quite possible that a movie does phenomenally well in Chennai city…Kabali itself has broken Theris record to become highest grosser in Chennai….

but even accepting all this why isn’t I on the list you initially quoted when a number of pieces called it record-breaking precisely in Chennai city? I am not really referring to the overall South gross of I or the international one except to show that when a film puts such huge benchmark numbers everywhere and certainly in the initial week or more it’s not likely to fall short of that record in Chennai city! Which is again what some of the pieces are saying. By the way at least at the time I was considered an underperformer in AP. Did well enough but they paid very high prices for it. Anniyan did very well in TN but even better in AP. With I it was almost the opposite for this. The point again being that proportionately TN was a much stronger market for it. And you can’t get those kinds of numbers in TN without running up the score in Chennai.

Sultan is way out ahead with 585 crore and Rustom is odds on for 200 crore plus while Dishoom and Mohenjo Daro have also crossed 100 crore. The above ten films are the only ones to go above 100 crore Worldwide. Rustom is likely to be the highest grossing Akshay Kumar film worldwide while Dishoom is the second highest grossing Varun Dhawan film outside ABCD 2 (Dilwale not counted). The film could have gone to 125 crore but the release of Rustom and Mohenjo Daro saw it taken off most theatres.
Mohenjo Daro is a huge under performer but has sneaked above 100 crore worldwide giving Hrithik Roshan his ninth worldwide 100 crore film. Two of which Krrish 3 and Bang abng have crossed 250 crore.

the unbelievable thing about MD’s India numbers is that in absolute terms it’s going to do less than JA or at the most the very same depending on whose numbers you believe. of course JA released 8 years ago, was itself an underperformer which opened weakly, trending was fine at a somewhat lower end but it also had length issues in terms of number of shows:

Hrithik Roshan and Ashutosh Gowariker fall out over ‘Mohenjo Daro’s failure?
Hrithik Roshan was extremely hopeful about his last film Mohenjo Daro to do well at the box office. But the film tanked without any trace. For a film with high production cost and investment, Mohenjo Daro could not even manage to recover even half of its investment from the domestic collections at the BO.
This has left Hrithik fuming. Hrithik who feels Ashutosh is responsible for the debacle had allegedly sent some angry texts to the filmmaker expressing his displeasure over the film’s final outcome. Ashu also didn’t take it lying down.
Ashutosh reportedly has replied back too in a powerful tone and it has already strained their relationship. Now with Kaabil clashing with Raees, we wonder what’s on Duggu’s mind.

Actually I did watch Mohenjo Daro over the 2nd weekend as I wanted to catch it on big screen. Frankly the movie isn’t bad if you ignore the historical connection. It is just another routine commercial Hindi flick story and if you watch it in that perspective the movie appears timepass and alright. The reason where the movie fails is the lack of creativity in story and adding cinematic vision to the proceedings. It is made very sincerely, albiet too sincerely and comes across as TV series and not a movie. Though Ashutosh has done well with the editing and pacing and tried to wrap this movie in 2.5 hours itself is an achievment. Hrithik performed alright but he’s same as any other movie. Doens’t look like the BC guy and to me that’s a fail. Songs are not great shakes on screen( they cut the Sarsariya, which I wanted to watch on big screen). Overall, some instances are directed well but Ashu went back to ‘Baazi’ days by making a commercial potboiler and just placing it in Mohenjo Daro. So, that’s again a fail IMO. Some parts of story also resembled Bahubali and that’s another tall order to fulfill for Ashu.
Hrithik was fine but its not going to help in career as even the acting didn’t get registered. Pooja Hedge was alright.. no great shakes. Kabir Bedi actually surprised me as he did his role with lot of effort and take. I thought he couldn’t do even 2 mins role in Dilwale well but here he got the mail villain and he did good. But I don’t think anyone’s interested in seeing him on big screen for so long and we needed another actor for that role who would have added more freshness as its lengthy role. Nitish Bharadwaj (Krishna from TV Mahabharat series) is another suprise to watch it on big screen although his character or acting isn’t something to talk about. Overall, watch it incase you want to see and easily can be skipped.

He first spoke about how he was given the royal ignore by the Pulp Fiction director. It happened in London where Ranbir was shooting for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. At the same time, Quentin Tarantino was promoting his latest film, The Hateful Eight there. When Ranbir heard about this, the fanboy in him got excited. He said, “I was shooting in a basement and he was in the building. I heard that he was doing an interview so I went running up. I told Karan, “Listen, I have to meet him.” Not that I’m going to say that I’m an actor from India. I just wanted to meet him, take a picture, an autograph. I saw him coming and from far I’m saying, “Quentin, Quentin.” He walks, looks at me, goes and sits in his car. When the door opens, I’m like, “Sir, picture picture?”and they have it on video.”
Poor Ranbir! Naturally he got teased by the crew for this. “It was really funny and I got teased by the entire crew of Ae Dil, but just to see Quentin Tarantino.”
However his encounter with Natalie Portman was more humiliating, as the Black Swan actress actually told him to get lost! He recollected this ‘shameful’ incident that happened in Tribeca, “She was on the phone and she was crying. I went quickly behind her and said, “I love your…” Before I could say “work”, she turned and said, “Get lost!”

Amitabh Bachchan is usually a calm and composed person one will meet in the entire film industry. He is not someone who loses his cool for no reason. But, even when he does, he does it in a style.
This morning we all read a news published in a tabloid and many of us might have even got miffed on Amitabh Bachchan for his behavior. But, little did we know that it was a fake story.
However, the truth was brought to light by none other than Amitabh himself and he gave it back in a very classic way.
As per reports in the tabloid, Big B refused to click picture with a girl fan who was waiting for him outside the studio where he was shooting for an advertisement.
Revealing the truth, Mr. Bachchan posted a series of tweets showing the real pictures along with sharing the what actually happened.

I agree with very little in this piece. In more general terms Taseer doesn’t really describe contemporary Bollywood. It would be better in this sense talking about Tamil or Telugu cinema or an older Hindi cinema. For some of Salman’s films this holds but this brand of masala is still mostly the exception when it comes to Hindi cinema. In other words Bollywood is precisely the industry that by and large does not reflect the ‘fault-lines’ of its society except for a very rarefied group of viewers. Sultan too is symptomatic in this sense. This is desi Rocky if you will. A poster film for the contradictions of Modi-fied India where the colonizer can be beaten at his game only by returning to a certain ‘nativism’ (the ‘chaiwala’ as ultimate ambassador for India’s globalization moment). Put differently within this globalized order various nativisms become the ultimate means of ‘belonging’. There is the Indian chapter, the Chinese chapter, the Turkish one and so on. These ‘traditions’ are preserved as various local exotica underlining a universal-triumphalist vision of global capital. All native traditions are welcome and confirm the original hypothesis. Now I certainly understand the potency of this move in popular culture. The Lagaan moment if you will. Beating the colonizer at his game without following necessarily all his ‘rules’ or certainly the ethical underpinnings of the same. But Lagaan is a poetic fairy tale whereas Sultan is about crude chest-beating. And here too Taseer is problematic. “civilizational anger” takes different forms in different cultures. Or the response to this sort of global cultural hegemony, the contradictory spaces occupied by the colonized one way or the other, these are differently framed in different contexts. It would be great if the manifestation of “civilizational anger” in contemporary India were restricted to the crude jingoisms of Sultan (it would be a pretty harmless phenomenon in that case) but (and unfortunately) that is hardly the case. Islamist violence is a category all its own because it’s so ‘global’. At the same time it is as colonized in its violence as any other form of resistance that Taseer presumably prefers. In much the same way Hindutva is another such totally colonized response and for instance the politics of Erdogan in Turkey is yet another. And one could go around the world in this sense. It would be an easy world if certain forms of civilizational anger could simply be released by way of popular entertainment. But the latter is always symptomatic. Much as in the 70s the ‘violence’ of those movies was equally a symptom of much greater unease and economies of violence in the nation. Finally I’d say Taseer almost offers a hopelessly seamless view of the processes of colonization (in his idealized version). This is a total fantasy. And surprising coming from this author given his work elsewhere. I can only surmise that he was moved enough by Sultan to engage in a rather spontaneous piece which offers some interesting ideas but isn’t really well thought out.

The Rustom v Mohenjo Daro clash has just happened and it another big clash is waiting to happen next year. The Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer (untitled) directed by Imtiaz Ali is scheduled for an August 11th 2017 release date and an Akshay Kumar starrer Crack seems to be announced for an Independence Day 2017 release. This date falls on a Tuesday so it may not be clash in the truest sense but the dates are the same vicinity and the screens issue will be there if this was to happen and they release four days apart. It could be that Crack is actually 11th August and the poster is not portraying the actual date. This year saw the Akshay Kumar starrer easily get the better of the Hrithik Roshan starrer Mohenjo Daro but to take on a Shahrukh Khan starrer is a different ball game.
Shahrukh Khan and Akshay Kumar have clashed twice before with Daava v Yes Boss in 1997 and Don v Jaan-E-Mann in 2006 with Shahrukh Khan coming out on top both times. The last time that Shahrukh Khan actually lost a clash was 2001 with Asoka v Indian and in those days Sunny Deol the lead of Indian had a huge initial pull. There was the Dilwale v Bajirao Mastani clash at the end of last year where the Shahrukh Khan starrer Dilwale did less business in India but here the defeat was not Shahrukh Khan’s but of the film as far as domestic business was concerned. The clout of the star ensured a far bigger opening in India and Worldwide it was still a bigger grosser despite the film not being liked as to Bajirao Mastani which was said to be hugely appreciated.
The Shahrukh Khan starrer is an Overseas musical love story on a big canvas so if Crack was a potential action blockbuster ala Rowdy Rathore this clash could have been a real battle but it seems a Neeraj Pandey film from the poster who has made films like Special 26 and Baby which did not find appreciation at the box office with 65 crore and 82 crore respectively and also found no appreciation on television being among the worst Akshay Kumar performers. Ashutosh Gowariker has had brickbats coming his way since his historical project, Mohenjo Daro, hit theatres earlier this month. The reaction was more or less expected, considering a cold response to the trailer of the Hrithik Roshan-starrer. But, the director is taking the criticism in his stride and promises to “fix” the “wrongs” in future.
Addressing mass communication students at a seminar as part of the 7th Jagran Film Festival in Bhopal, Mr Gowariker said, “Many critics and viewers have pointed out that the costumes are not from that era (2016 BC) and the dialect was not right. But, I urge people not to pay heed to such details. We prepared everything having consulted with archaeologists and have tried to keep it as real as possible.”
He added that despite the barrage of criticism, he and his team are happy with how the film shaped up. “Everyone worked really hard and we’d hoped that the audience will appreciate our efforts. My main motive was to bring on celluloid the beauty and charm of a period left unexplored. This is a matter of national identity which hasn’t been showcased in cinema before. I collected information from archaeologists, but wrote the screenplay keeping in mind the human element, blending fact with fiction,” he explained.
Mr Gowariker went on to add that he always tries to keep a film’s story relatable to today’s audience lest it be labelled a documentary. “While writing a historical film, I ensure that it has contemporary relevance. The one thing about Mohenjo Daro’s theme was how a beautiful culture and civilisation was wiped out by a man-made disaster. The villain (played by Kabir Bedi) erects a dam which causes massive floods in the region. Even today, the whole world is talking about global warming, but no one is doing anything about it. I want to show the common link between 2016 BC and 2016 AD. I also wanted to set a love story with a backdrop of a culture and civilisation relatively unknown,” he waxed eloquent.
The filmmaker finally admitted that a film’s failure sends him into introspection mode and saddens him too. The filmmaker’s last directorial venture, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se (2010), was a period drama based on the 1930 Chittagong uprising, and was panned by critics and the audience alike.

“When I make period films, people ask why I don’t move out of that genre. When I try my hand at normal films like What’s Your Rashee (2009), people say I should concentrate on period films only. I don’t want to blame the audience; I did that earlier in my career, but over the years, I have realised that the audience is always right. I try to internalise their feedback. I want to figure out what went wrong and why so that I can fix it in future,” he said.

Commenting on costumes is plain silly. Even Ashu mentioned before release.. the women were practically nude and wore very less clothes and he can’t be possibly showing them in that attire just to appease the critics and be correct about it. They could have done a little better but that’s not the point about the movie where 99% is fiction.

While BOI is giving a clean chit to SRK, I will not. I think this will be an even fight, though can give SRK a 1% edge because of his capability to do 200+Cr grossers given a right movie, which Akshay has never done. Now the question is – Is Imtiaz movie a right vehicle for him. We know Neeraj’s movie is for Akshay despire S26 and Baby not even a clean hit. Its was BIG prestige hit, which was rubbed off with Rustom.
Well Akshay Kumar coming after a superb and hat trick hits in 2016 and then with the next assured hit Jolly LLB 2 (sequel to a national award winning hit movie) in Feb and before the the monstrous 2.0 releasing in Diwali 2017, Akshay Kumar has nothing to lose with this clash.
And beware of Akshay Kumar in a patriotic movie @ Independence day holiday.

Good point but I believe some movies are bigger than stars. Now Robot was the highest dubbed movie of its time(whatever that number was 18 crores) and it has huge TV run and was always in news like a Hindi movie(SRK was supposed to do it 1 time). Now Bahubali has showed the way and movies can do more boxoffice returns(not a regular Rajini movie like Kabali) if there is merit. I don’t think it will be perceived as Akshay kumar movie as of now. Akki will surely bring in opening factor and all but lets try to see the role and if he manages to steal the show in his villain’s act.
Now, Sanjay Dutt’s next solo movie will not even cross 50 crores but if he does Munnabhai 3, it won’t do less than 200 crores! Its not that Sanjay Dutt suddenly becomes Super star, he won’t.. he didn’t even after part 2’s huge success.

The movie will be dubbed in Tamil in Hindi markets too. But I do agree broadly with the statement that Rajni has no standing in North. But I dont think the Hindi version will do better than what Bahubali did.
The bulk of the business will be in South and abroad. And since the main market is South for a Rajni movie, expect this to be an out and out Rajni movie as they wont compromise on the main market. Don’t expect Akki to get the footage which Rajni got in Robo as villain. The South audience wont accept any villain making a fool of Rajni…The dynamics are very different in a Rajni movie….Villians don’t get equal footage in his movies unless Rajni is the villain too

Except for the last sentence, think this is a very fair post. Imtiaz will make good movies but not sure of the reach. Same for Neeraj Pandey…I have heard the movie is a comedy and that might change the stakes a bit in favor of SRK. Even otherwise I think a SRK movie will command more attention for sure. But Imtiaz movie can restrict it.
BTW I don’t think this clash will happen. Both movies are yet to start shooting and a lot of things can happen between now and next year

Akshay Kumar to shoot Toilet – Ek Prem Katha before Neeraj Pandey’s Crack
We had reported earlier that Akshay Kumar will be starring in Neeraj Pandey’s satirical comedy, Toilet-Ek Prem Katha. The actor-filmmaker duo will also be working together in a film titled Crack. The first look of the film was unveiled on Independence day.
While some speculated that Toilet-Ek Prem Katha and Crack were the same films with Crack as the new title, it has been learned that they both are two different films. According to a leading daily, Akshay Kumar will be shooting for the former movie first before beginning the shoot of Crack. Actress Bhumi Pednekar also stars in Toilet-Ek Prem Katha and it is inspired from Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan, a cleanliness drive started by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Directed by Neeraj Pandey and produced by Abundantia Entertainment along with Friday Filmworks, Toilet – Ek Prem Katha will be a light hearted film with a realistic touch. As of now, Akshay Kumar has started shooting for another satirical comedy Jolly LLB 2.
