This films seems deeply uninteresting, for the same reason biographies of sports figures (much less autobiographies!) all too often are! Add to this the fact that Indian filmmakers are horrible at biopics (even worse than the already bad Americans) and my interest couldn’t sink lower…

I must say that, while I remain suspicious of biopics, the second, longer teaser (I saw this when I went to see Kapoor & Sons), with its shots of Kharagpur railway station and in general that government employee-colony/small town feel, reeled me in. I’ve always been a sucker for this sort of thing…

This was one scorcher of a match. Its been seasons since we have had such close finishes…Whatever one might think of Dhoni, his presence of mind TILL the last ball, the last second are what separate him from the others. It requires a damn successful marriage of thick-skin and application of mind and he just epitomizes it. iI would have literally puked myself out of mind-games had I been in a similar situation. He might win or he might lose, but rarely does he give a chance for the spectators or the commentators that he just didn’t try…

In t20, any of the top 4-5 teams can own anybody on the day.
Even nz& England have some t20 quality though WI are Gail-centric.
Even root, buttler, Roy, Morgan aren’t bad batters on their day.
The effective final will be the qf on sun between the top 2 pedigreed teams in the world– aus v ind
the impact of a player in a team is visible & discernible even when not performing well.
Dhoni is a legend and will the game tomorrow be his last t20 wc game ?
Btw not many noticed but the way dhoni ended his test career (against Australia) was imo

Dhonis changes and handling from behind the wicket in t20 doesn’t get enough credit
He uses some bowlers like jadeja are TESTERS of the pitch, bounce and turn
De veliiers is more talented with much better hand eye coordination and bat speed etc
The difference between kohli and others like de villiers is that
Kohli plays true cricketing shots
Minimises lofted shots
And is learning from errors
Tendulkar is still a mountain to climb though given the sheer longevity. Kohli has to maintain at near this level for a decade to match Tendulkar but in terms of
Chasing and winning targets kohli has already trumped 10dulkar
Ps: also I feel pre/perimatch sexual activity of players should be banned. That’s where kohli suffered in the last wc.. It’s a fact!

Kohli though has struggled quite a bit with form since the last WC though it’s punctuated with such big moments.
Secondly no one one in world think De Villiers doesn’t play true cricketing shots. He’s widely considered the greatest cricketer of this generation.

But the score line proves what was mentioned earlier

IPL has led to the improvement of t20 in other countries
And the subcontinental pitches in t20 aren’t alien for them anymore
That explains the improved showing of Simmonds, butler, etc
As for dhoni–
His encounter with the Aussie scribe after the loss to wi proves hes a REAL star, a REAL man
But even dhoni is in denial. He’s now trying to escalate the reality
contrary to what dhoni and many want to happen
Dhoni will stay play international cricket for a while
Maybe even as captain

Retiring Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has shed light on how his team’s efforts to unsettle Indian batting mainstay Virat Kohli have gone in vain till now.
Virat Kohli’s magnificent 82 not out from 51 balls helped India overhaul Australia’s 160 with five balls to spare, on Sunday, sending the hosts into the semi-finals as Group 2 runners-up and Steven Smith’s men home.
– Smith doffs hat to Kohli, refrains from making Tendulkar comparison
Watson said that they have tried various techniques to break Kohli’s concentration on the field but nothing has really worked out.
“We’ve tried a few different things. It hasn’t really worked. The silent treatment, we thought might work but he (Kohli) still just goes about his business and is able to churn out the runs. And we’ve also gone fairly hard at him as well, at times,” Watson was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.
“He knows his game incredibly well and whichever way we go we’re just going to have to be at our best to try and get him out early. Because once he gets in he certainly knows how to put pressure on bowlers,” the veteran all-rounder added.
Kohli, who has emerged as the leading batsman in the world, has been a thorn for the Australians in the recent times, and he repeated the treatment with flamboyance, taking India across the finish line, in Mohali on Sunday.

Anyone can beat anyone in T20 on their day – and the players who are quick to dismantle or ‘unlearn’ cricketing shots stand a better chance compared to players who depend more on traditional cricketing shots. Of course, players like Virat have the amazing capability to keep bringing in proper cricketing shots into this game. And that’s what makes players like Virat special since they bring some respectability into what’s essentially ‘gully’ cricket.
It didn’t help that our inexperienced bowlers kept bowling full-length on a pitch so easily playable. The NO-BALLS were really weird.
I have scant respect for this form of cricket so I am not as heart-broken as I was in the 2015 semi-final against Australia. That was painful, really painful especially considering the fact that all that stood between India and the cup was the performance on that one day.
We have never been and we will never be a bowling nation I guess. But there’s a limit to the number of runs one can score and the extent of dependency one can have on batsmen alone. Somewhere folks have to start thinking of incorporating the ‘culture’ of fast-bowling in India..

—– I don’t think professionally Harsha has lost anything by not being a part of this Indian Prostitution league; but yes, he has lost a fat pay-check for sure..
And as is the wont, even the likes of the fantastic Prem Panicker haven’t spared Amitabh for his innocuous tweet. If Amitabh’s tweet is going to be the ‘performance indicator’ of commentators or players, it reflects on the mentality/lack of basic intelligence and accountability of the board and not the tweet by Amitabh [I completely DISAGREE with his tweet but that’s another issue]—-
To return to the swirl of rumours, there is a third one doing the rounds which, if true, is the most disturbing: That players had complained to the Board about commentators who criticised them.
Firstly, it is ironic to think that any player, however thin-skinned, could take exception at Harsha’s ‘criticism’. His trademark, as I constantly crib, is circumlocution.
When he criticises, which is rarely, he camouflages it with so many caveats and presents it in such roundabout fashion that you are never sure whether he just critiqued a player or proposed marriage to him.
But the worrying aspect of this last, persistent, rumour is what it indicates about the new breed of player. The previous generation — Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath and others — were apt to be touchy at times.
There were times when they disagreed vehemently with what you wrote or said about their play. But equally, by their behaviour they put the ‘gentleman’ in the sport of gentlemen. When they disagreed, they reached out to you privately; they argued their point of view and contested yours.
They could, and often did, emphatically suggest you were ill-informed, but they always conceded to you the right to call it as you saw it.
If it is true their successors are a bunch of whiny schoolboys complaining to mom about how their teacher gave them bad marks (the unnamed BCCI official cited earlier also says the Board took inputs from the players), it says something about the new generation that is to its lasting discredit.

It is silly to expect commentators to behave like fans while doing commentary. Just coz commentator is Indian doesn’t mean he’ll gloat like a fanatic and support Indian team. Also, Harsha Bhogle has been doing this for decades, you can ignore small comments here and there. Also, if you are not blinded its obvious to everyone that Indian’s got lucky and won the match and Bangladesh were stupid to loose it and its good to appreciate a smaller team like Bangladesh in such close fight. I don’t see any wrong in Harsha’s commentary. If it was Australia, he wouldn’t have supported the same.

Dhoni biopic is 3 hours 10 mins long
The eagerly awaited biopic Dhoni: The Untold Story, just got bigger… at least in size. It now comes to light that the film is 3 hours 10 minutes in length.
It was shown to the Censor Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) this week, and, the film was unanimously loved by one and all in the Censor Board.
Says a source close to the film, “The Censor Board wouldn’t touch a single shot. They said every moment in Dhoni’s story is inspiring and motivational. The film clocks a solid 3 hours and 10 minutes of playing time.”
Interestingly, the film is split in two unequal halves.
Says the source, “The interval occurs after 2 hours and 40 minutes of playing-time at a crucial juncture in Dhoni’s saga.”
Reacting to the CBFC’s clean chit, the film’s director Neeraj Pandey says, “This was only expected.”

MS Dhoni: The Untold Story will get the widest Bollywood release in history
Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star Studios, who are also producers of the biopic, said in a statement: “MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is going to be the widest release for any Indian film in India and internationally. It will also be the widest release for a Hindi film (dubbed) in Tamil and Telugu.”
However, “given the unprecedented demand for the movie worldwide, and the deadlines to deliver the film in all the languages, the Punjabi and Marathi language release will not happen”, Singh shared.
“The movie will be the biggest ever release in terms of screen count in India and simultaneously in 60 international countries too, making it the widest (Indian) release worldwide,” he added.
Arun Pandey, who has produced the Neeraj Pandey directorial under the Inspired Entertainment banner, is happy with the buzz around the movie, which stars Sushant Singh Rajput as the reel Dhoni.
We are pleased to inform that the film will be the widest ever release for a film in India and worldwide with it releasing in 60 countries. We wanted to release our film in Marathi and Punjabi too. I am expecting a biggie too here…Reports are good and advance is good too…Jharkand has made it tax free…South specially Chennai will be huge like a Khan movie as MSD is huge there…In Sathyam chain it is getting the biggest screen too..
Will be interesting to see the opening here as there is no precursor to such a movie before…Most times biopics release when the person is not active. For the first time a movie about a person you see in action daily is being released. If movie is good or great, it can put humungous numbers

The biggest hit in sports oriented biopic has been Bhaag Milkha directed by Rakesh Omprakash Mehra.
Dhoni directed by Neeraj Pandey who is the leading director in Hindi Cinema and more rooted and better than Mehra, will make three times what Bhaag Milkha made. 300 cr+
i can sense the excitement all around for the family blockbuster. Now the movie has to just be honest and thrilling enough. It is history in the making.

After MNS banned Pakistan artistes in India, Pakistan is now boycotting the release of Sushant Singh Rajput’s M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story.
IMGC Global entertainment, a Pakistan-based distribution company, was supposed to release the film, but its chairman Ahmed Rashid told a tabloid, “Amid current tension between the two countries, we have decided not to release the film.”
Rashid also said that Indian films do brisk business across the border and Pakistan is emerging as the third highest overseas market for Bollywood. “But, this development (boycott of Dhoni) will affect the business,” added the insider.
Not just this, a petition was also filed at the Lahore High Court on September 23, seeking a ban on Indian films until the Kashmir issue is resolved. The PIL filed by lawyer Azhar Saddique claims that exhibiting Bollywood movies in local cinemas will “hurt sentiments of the people in Pakistan and Kashmir”.
Directed by Neeraj Pandey, M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story is set to hit the screens on September 30, this year.

‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’ film review
Neeraj Pandey’s biopic on of India’s legendary cricketers brings does a splendid job of bringing alive the Indian middle-class milieu
Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput knocks it out of the park as the former Indian captain M.S. Dhoni in this eponymous biopic. From the lopsided gait to Dhoni’s self-effacing demeanour, Rajput makes it his business to be convincing as the small-town boy who becomes India’s top cricketing legend and he strikes gold.
Directed by Neeraj Pandey, who gave us taut thrillers such as A Wednesday and Special 26, this biopic does a splendid job of bringing alive the Indian middle-class milieu.
Dhoni’s family headed by a conservative father (Anupam Kher) who wants Dhoni to get a stable job instead of pursuing his sports, his simple friends who take reflected pride in Dhoni’s cricketing calibre and his optimistic school coach, all make the first half utterly convincing.
What’s not to love about an underdog who makes it to the big league? Until the film’s interval, things were moving at a languid but engaging pace. It was refreshing to see a Hindi film which did not shirk from showing how ordinary your life can get if you rein in your ambitions.
The scenes in which Dhoni and his friends try to race against time and reach the airport for a sports selection round makes you cheer for these lovable underdogs.
But it’s the second half that lets this biopic down. Ideally, his innings as the captain of the Indian cricket team playing in the world cup should have been explosive. But precious screen time is squandered away in bringing to life the women that entered the former Indian captain’s life.
Kiara Advani and Disha Patani are charming and cute in their roles, but this vanilla romance feels unnecessary. There’s even a song about Rajput on a bike with glasses romancing his young wife. The picturesque song appeared after we were treated to some lengthy courtship scenes.
Did we really need to know that aspect of Dhoni’s life?
Important chapters such as the conflict that this cricketing legend may have faced as a captain when he had to lead his team or the politics that played out when stakes become high in a popular and scandal-ridden sport such as cricket is skimmed through.
It’s surprising that a bold director such as Pandey chose to focus on Dhoni’s personal life rather than his professional.
It makes you wonder if he just copped out. Apart from a couple of scenes touching upon Dhoni’s unconventional decisions taken as a captain such as removing a couple of established players from the team, the film doesn’t offer any insight into the interesting episodes on the professional front. We don’t want the dirt, but at least give us the gritty bits.
But what elevates the patchy screenplay in the second half is Rajput’s charismatic performance. It’s difficult to take your eyes off him. He’s so assured in his role that it’s compelling to see him transform himself from a diffident ticket collector in an Indian railway station to one of the world’s best batsmen and captain. Give this film a shot for Rajput and the sturdy support that the supporting cast gives him.
While this may not be Pandey’s best Bollywood innings, it’s definitely watchable.

M.S.Dhoni -The Untold Story is certainly a must-watch if you’re a fan of Indian cricket. Get to know the man behind the composed, confident, match-finisher of Indian cricket team. A 3.5/5 for this one.
Sushant Singh Rajput gives his career best performance. He is not only convincing as the player with his body language but also with his amazing batting skills. The actor has clearly put in immense efforts for this role and I’d say they will definitely be paid off as he is set to get noticed for it.
Anupam Kher does a great job as Pan Singh Dhoni, the father. He emotes brilliantly in the scenes where he is full of pride for his son.
