  2. Poster is fresh & classy. Going by trailer the concept seems new and Balki’s wife Gauri Shinde shot EV pretty well and here too proceedings seems out of the box. Alia stands out and like Kajol can make her presence felt in any frame. SRK in Kamal Haasan mode can be a treat. Going by the trailer he seems to be reined in which is a good sign and this small movie can help him in getting his mojo back provided he has a substantial role.

Still within its means, this may not be an easy success for SRK and going by twitter exchanges between srk and alia those bathroom shots were all cheesy…..

SRK has suddenly a very poor record with a lot of new directors and has put many out of business. Farah gone into oblivion, Anubhav after ambitious Ra1 is nowhere to be found. Hot and happening Manish Sharma (band baja baraat) is suddenly out of the reckoning after Fan. Who else….. Dholakia is stuck with Raees for a good period of time. Imtiaz bhai is already in trouble after no success with Ranbir…..who else? That leaves Anand Rai from Tanu Weds Manu fame but the poor chap has been pushed to end of 2018.

    • Okay, SRK should retire. You are repeating this in every SRK movie thread, there’s nothing more to add.

Maybe you should be worried that ‘Thums Up’ have dropped Salman Khan today and planning to sign Ranveer Singh as their next ambassador.

      Like

      • Hmm so you are current with the gossips too.

Ranveer Singh is a good choice and it was high time he gets a shot at the top. Ranbir replacing SRK in Pepsi ad few years back was big news too.

        Like

        • But I’m not wrong as you are. Ranbir didn’t replace SRK as you can see Srk/Ranbir did a series of Pepsi ads together and they were brand ambassadors together at one time for years. They cut down the budget later and just kept Ranbir going forward.

English Vinglish was a lot of fun. Not a bad idea for SRK to do a small movie where BO figures wouldn’t matter much.

  4. EV seemed forced at many places and never had that captivating end. Concept would have worked wonders in late 80s or early 90s when Indians were starting out. In this fast paced hi tech world there is too much ‘syaanpanti’ to see a heroine get time warped like that esp if she is so decked up on screen.

    • “EV seemed forced at many places and never had that captivating end. Concept would have worked wonders”

Lol. The movie/concept did wonders anyways and for an off-beat film it did about 40 crores four years back which is an achievement even today. Today it would have done 60-65 as the recent off-beats like Neerja, Pink are doing. If you think that worked without concept working and without a captivating end, you are completely wrong.

60-65 cr even today is no great shake! That was no offbeat movie.

  8. Like SRK in the trailer and I think he should be fine in a role where he gets to be somewhat vulnerable and connects perhaps with an older (earlier) self of his. However Alia Bhatt just doesn’t do anything for me. Wish they had a different actress here.

i think SRK should do movies like these if he wants to reinvent himself. mature, coming of age films that are not too ambitious with young directors. he was brilliant in Fan which was not a bad film but aimed too much for its own good.

what’s the story for this one? i am intrigued by the teaser. first time in a while where I wasn’t annoyed by SRK and his mannerisms…very ordinary role (which is a positive in this case).

  11. The biggest plus this teaser has that Shahrukh seems to be enjoying himself without the pressure of delivering a mammoth hit, which might prove to be film’s biggest strength as people want Shahrukh in restrained mode as he was in CDI or Swades. Every once in a while big stars should do such small movies relieving them of any box-office pressure which also gives them a chance to try and experiment in acting or be natural without the ‘mannerism’ associated with them. It would be fun just to watch them in ‘free mode’.

  12. Looks good. But wake me up if this crosses 100 crs….Looks like very high end multiplexy stuff..

    • Why ‘crores’ define everything!! Let’s look beyond myopic definition of Crores determining success in creative fields as arts ought not to be seen from the narrow prism of economics to deem it a success or failure. CDI and Swades are 2 prime examples where Shahrukh delivered his best imo, yet they don’t feature in his top 10 grosser movies! AAA and Tere Naam have Salman’s fab performances, yet movies were far from roaring successes as AAA was a flop and Tere Naam a semi-hit! JJWS and 1947 Earth have Aamir’s best performances as per many people’s opinion, yet neither of them is a blockbuster! Yet all the aforementioned movies and performances are cherished as one of the best in their entire career, many times mentioned as blockbusters and super-hits oblivious of their actual vetdicts as today they are enjoyed by the people regardless of their boxoffice reception.

  20. More than the film, I’m looking forward to the complete soundtrack. Amit Trivedi’s previous collaboration with Gauri Shinde yielded a couple of gems: Gustaakh Dil beautifully sung by Shilpa Rao and Navrai Maajhi a wonderful celebratory song.

After Udta Punjab, which was a terrific album, hope this one also adds another feather to Amit Trivedi’s cap.

  22. BREAKING: Tahir Raj Bhasin replaces Ali Zafar in Dear Zindagi

In the wake of the ban on Pakistani artists in Bollywood, many films have suffered setback owing to the presence of the artists. While the release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was in jeopardy until days before its release, yet another film that would have probably faced hindrance is Gauri Shinde’s Dear Zindagi which stars musician-actor Ali Zafar.

While there were speculations about Ali Zafar’s scenes being chopped from the film, now we have come to know that Tahir Raj Bhasin has replaced Ali in the film. There are also rumours that the Mardaani and Force 2 actor has already started shooting for the same and even a song has been shot with him. The said track is apparently a dance number which also features Alia Bhatt and is sung by Arijit Singh. The Gauri Shinde directorial, in a bid to avoid any issues during release, decided to replace Ali, who plays a small role in Alia’s life in the film.

Dear Zindagi is a woman-centric film that traces the journey of Kaira aka Alia Bhatt, a cinematographer by profession as she comes across many men in her life played by different actors like Aditya Roy Kapur, Kunal Kapoor, Angad Bedi and Tahir Raj Bhasin, while Shah Rukh Khan plays the role of a life coach.

Shot extensively in Goa, the two promos of the film have generated ample interest and Dear Zindagi is slated to release on November 25.

the demonetisation could actually work against the film. many people are trying to save as much withdrawn liquid cash as possible. splurging it on Dear Zindagi won’t be a sensible decision for many. seriously, SRK and team should consider postponing release.

    • It is completely dependent on WOM now. The decision to do 1 month marketing can be tricky and sometimes feel less and now with the current Notebandi issue, movies are no longer on majority of folks mind. Don’t think it will postpone though.

In future only overseas can save our film industry. India has various issues and people are more worried about their daily lives. Even Dangal will be affected.

        • Agree, already just 1 to 2% of folks are watching movies in India and even that will be reduced in future. For anything and everything, they want to ban movies and movies are an easy target. As if 90% of them watch movies, politicians make a big deal out of it.

I was going to give Dear Zindagi a miss but may catch it in theatres if reviews are okay and srk is in detoxicated mode.

BB 10 Sunday Special: Alia brings in a breath of fresh air into the lives of BB mates; Lokesh gets evicted

Further, Alia played a game with the contestants where she asked all the men of the house to woo her using a prop in the cheesiest way. She gave away the award to Manu saying that she is biased towards him. Alia also sang ‘Ae zindagi gale laga le‘ only for him. For a change, finally someone managed to make Manu stay quiet, atleast for sometime.

She then Alia called out for a Kabbadi match, where Gaurav and Rohan were pitted against Manveer and Manu, where the latter won. The gorgeous lady then, conveyed Rohan a message from his father where he was seen singing ‘Papa kehte hai bada naam karega’for him. On the other hand, Manu got a motivational message from his girlfriend, leaving both Rohan and Manu teary eyed with the gifts. Before making an exit from the house, Alia asked all the contestants to dedicate proverbs to their fellow housemates.

Alia then took to the BB stage where Salman was seen joking around with her. He questioned her about her Dear Zindagi co-star Shah Rukh Khan not joining her on the show. He also sang his hit number Jag ghoomiya for Alia. Alia further revealed that according to her, Manu, Rahul, Lopa and Manveer are the strongest contenders and she will be rooting for them. Salman further introduced the big box segment where both had to pick one item each from the box and sell it like a tele marketer. While Alia attempted to sell a ‘kaccha’, Salman had to sell Om Swami’s photo. The actor then introduced another game where Alia was given cut-outs of the popular male actors from the industry and was asked to choose.

How much it needs to be a HIT?

I will be watching this anyway. Howeve my concern is that from an originally planned small budget movie, this has become bigger with lots of publicity in print and television.
Also SRK seems to be in more than a cameo here, which is a major plus for the movie.

On a BO front not sure what to expect here. One of those movies very difficult to predict. I am expecting for a 10cr opening though either ways

        • Krrish, you’ll be shocked to know the release prints of Dear Zindagi. It is just 1300 and far less than any recent medium budgeted movie. They are just targeting cities and some cinemas. So, not sure it’ll touch double digits. My guess is 8 crores and 26 cr weekend.

          Like

        • with 1,300 prints, it’ll do like 6 to 7 crore. Not sure but I think the money issue will impact it.

I know just about all towns/cities in Gujarat is having a huge impact (negative) by it.

I wonder if modi government thought about would it would do to common men lives, or did he think every Indian is a black marketer?

This had ruined day to day life of millions.

And if anybody wants to challenge this, tell me which town of Gujarat they want to meet in and I can show them the long long long lines of common men/women suffering from it.

Ground report / first hand update from northern belt –

          1. Most middle class neighbors / officials one watched getting rich suddenly due to power play / extraordinary bribes / corruption with few even sitting with more than 1cr cash at home (this excluding benaami properties and gold ) –

All old cash has exchanged hands easily and most have bought gold, purchase of big ticket items with back dated invoicing, gas tanks are full, medical supplies bought to at least 1 year ahead with old notes.

          2. Retail market is dead in most places and business shutting due to no sale . Hardly any purchasing with even Malls getting a deserted look.

          3. People who we see in long lines at the bank are very regular folks who actually depend on daily cash to ride the day/week. Rest are hardly inconvenienced or have gone into a makeshift jugaad to ride this time.

          4. Most small scale factories and production units in small cities have more or less ceased operations due to lack of funds to buy raw material or to pay workers.

          5. Workers due no work or pay returning to UP/ Bihar. Trains leaving from Delhi to small places crowded with daily wage earners going back to hometown in hordes.

          6. Gold sold at Rs 45,000 per tola. …and now most gold shops are shut to avoid IT raids due to sale made at the start of this drive.

          7. Dollar being sold in black market at Rs 170 each with old notes. (Probably hawala still has ways to take care of old cash)

          8. Vegetables are getting rotten and no buyers and few veg are dirt cheap. At the other end few commodities like daal and rice have become very expensive due to hoarding. Also no one has chuttha of Rs 2000 notes. Either buy stuff worth 1700-1800 bucks or give small notes.

Even then I support PM Modi’s initiatives to eradicate black money since status quo was not an option. But if PM Modi/ Govt is worth its salt, they will see this to the bitter end and bring conclusion to this whole black market and corruption. If not then this is such a poor decision to just win few brownie points and basically to fuck the poor and needy on the road. Already most economist are saying domestic black money in cash is only 5-10% of total black money and the debate should shift fast towards power brokers who cause more harm and find ways to screw the system. The word on the road is that banks had gotten poor due to bad loan epidemic and there was not much liquidity to print notes and give to big lenders so with janta putting money in bank they can resume huge loans to business houses to assist the GDP/ Growth. This argument does have some merit otherwise why would govt strict outflow of cash from bank and restrict withdrawals to Rs 2,000 per week.

          To be continued…….

        • Okay this is not even 1300, looks only 1100 screens across country.
          **************
This will be Shah Rukh’s smallest release in years. The film will open only to about 1100 screens across India compared to the 3500-5000 screens that a SRK film usually enjoys in the country. Considering it’s a more multiplex friendly, niche film catering to a more limited audience base, the makers decided to go ahead with a smaller release and that might bring in better results, especially when occupancies are full.

So it’s a very limited release. Some of the biggest single screens are not screening the film. The distributors too have played safe and targeted more multiplexes. But it doesn’t matter. The film doesn’t have to be a 100 crore film to become a hit film so the makers are already in a very safe zone.
