  1. Very interesting and a very intriguing trailer. Hatke is always welcome and looking forward.

I hope Hrithik keeps himself involved with present day characters as his looks are very modern. I was surprised at his choice of Mohenjodaro.

  5. Rakesh Roshan Gets Candid about Hrithik Roshan, Kaabil & Lots More

This morning, Rakesh Roshan released a teaser of his upcoming film Kaabil which has been well received. SpotboyE.com spoke to Roshan Sr about his forthcoming film and lots more…

“…….Stars, including your son Hrithik, are said to charge a bomb. Doesn’t this put pressure on the film’s budget and the Studio in question?

Yes, but let me tell you something. Whatever they charge, the producer who has a SRK, Salman, Hrithik or any big star in his film is not going to sell the film at an economical price..

I have done the reverse for Kaabil. I have sold it at 50 per cent of the price which one normally gets for a Hrithik film. My all-India sale is not more than Rs 50 crore. So even if my film does Rs 100 crore, everyone stands to not lose money.

Is this the first time you doing like this?
Yes, I don’t want any distributor to lose money. The sharing will be more in my space, else I would have sold them for a higher price. But having invested lesser, they are far more covered than otherwise.

Talking on this subject, Mukesh Bhatt told us that “actors will have to charge lesser upfront and resort to taking back-end profits”.
Yes, but then they would like to do that with only those whom they trust? How many producers are really transparent and accountable today?

It’s going to be tough for the actors…
It’s going to be a tough time for the industry, which may even come to almost a standstill. We may see very few films being made because of Studios having folded up.

    Did you foresee this crisis?
I knew this was coming. Producers churning out five films in a year and only being a hit, how can it augur well for the industry? Naturally, studios started bleeding. But if you rewind, history has it that producers who make films in quick succession have had to literally ‘pack up’.

Mohenjo Daro locked horns with Rustom. In Kaabil, you are doing the same with Raees…
You can absorb 2 films over a period of 5 holidays. But two films will definitely eat into each other’s business if there’s just a 1-day holiday. FYI, Mohenjo Daro was announced much before Rustom.

I announced Kaabil first. Somebody encroaches on it, how can I help it? I remember delaying King Uncle and getting very superstitious after it failed. After that, I didn’t even tamper the date of Hrithik’s debut Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. It was sandwiched between Mela, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani and Pukar. Distributors advised me to shift the date. 3 distributors even left my film. Yet I did not budge.

But you shifted Krrish 4 for SRK starrer by Aanand L Rai…
That’s because I hadn’t started work on Krrish 4. Our industry needs some norms and ethics. Egos should never come in the way.

SRK and Ritesh Sidhwani visited your house to request you to shift Kaabil for Raees…
I told them exactly what I am telling you. It would be great if they understand and shift Raees. I have worked with SRK, he is a nice and humble guy, inwardly everybody knows that clashes don’t help anybody

I would have shifted Kaabil if I hadsn’t announced it before Raees. I don’t have any egos. I am still the same hardworking, punctual Rakesh Roshan who entered the film industry when he was 17 years old. I immediately reach out to people who want to reach out to me, be it even on mobile or text….”

  18. The trailer is not that bad. It is alright, in fact. A lot depends if Gupta manages to make it an engrossing thriller and keep the viewers hooked.

It is not the most expensive of movies, according to reports as well. I don’t expect a huge Salman/Aamir kind of grosser but it has an outside chance of being a decent hit, if well executed.

But one never knows with Sanjay Gupta on board. Aatish remains his best piece or work and we are looking at 20 years back here. The rest of his work were underwhelming or downright poor. Shoot-out at Lokhandwala was a Apoorva Lakhia film, by the way.

My only issues are the technicalities and consistency to the character both leads will be playing. Hope adequate research work has been done similar to Ghajini and even Black because plot holes will kill this movie and due to social media it has become very easy pull a movie down on these grounds.

Sadly Hrithik carries too much of a Koi Mil Gaya baggage whatever he does, and in that respect I feel sorry for him.Thankfully Roshan team has taken note and avoided repetition of flaring nostrils and shaking head with anger here and he seems much subdued.

  22. A quite decent trailor. This might do well in B and C centres also.. The blind thing is the novelty but in any case Hritik will dance whether he is blind or not…All things said much better than Mohenjo Daro’s first look…

Raaes would have been the first choice anyways for that weekend.

But i also get now why Rakesh Roshan said this is controlled budget. This wont gross to big I think even without the clash.

  24. Hrithik Roshan credits neighbour Akshay Kumar for completing ‘Kaabil’ in 60 days

Akshay had appreciated the first teaser on ‘Kaabil’ on Twitter, terming it an ‘impactful’ teaser.

Hrithik Roshan is one of the actors in the film industry who invests a lot of time in his films, like it was evident with his recent film ‘Mohenjo Daro’ which was his first release after almost two years. However, the actor has completed his next film ‘Kaabil’ in merely 60 days and the film is all set to release on 26 January next year. And Hrithik might have taken inspiration from Akshay Kumar, who stays in his same building and is known for doing three to four films in a year and completing them at a brisk speed.

Despite media outlets hyping the recent clash of their films ‘Mohenjo Daro’ and ‘Rustom’, the two superstars share a good equation.

When Hrithik had shared the first teaser of ‘Kaabil’, Akshay had appreciated it on Twitter, terming it an ‘impactful’ teaser. And Hrithik replied to the appreciation by saying that he was inspired by his neighbour to complete films quickly.

  26. Q. Can Kaabil do 100 crore plus in clash if it’s accepted and where is your trailer review for Kaabil?

    A. It’s going to be difficult for both films to cross 100 crore if both are accepted, because the target audience of both films are the same and they’ll eat into each others business. Even a big weekend like Diwali is only giving about 200 crore combined. Mohenjo Daro and Rustom did 190 crore. Both Kaabil and Raees run the risk of under-performing if they release together.

    • Q. Between Raees and Kaabil which movie could be the first choice of multiplex audiences looking at teasers of both the film?

      A. Cannot answer this question with certainty at the moment. We need to wait and see how the campaign goes for both films. Raees may not be the first choice for the family audience, because it’s dark, about alcohol trade and it also has Sunny Leone. We’ll have to wait for the trailer of Raees and a few more promos to see what’s working better with the multiplex audience.

        • The comments against SRK don’t make any sense. I don’t think he used Deepika or Anushka. Those two are lucky to start out in premium projects with him. Alia’s performance, a good one would not have got nearly as much visibility without SRK.

The debate around Yashraj / Dharma with or without SRK is a bit more nuanced. When the product is self SRK indulgent and eulogising the history of their first hits it’s overdone and entering this into non SRK films like Dostana or Befikre, even worse. This postering or nod to history is quite sad as its hardly ever effective. Barjatya reflects on MPK in HAHK with a scene where Prem is talking to Suman on the phone…it’s done much better and sparingly.

One could argue either way who helped who more, but now it’s clear both do not need each other to be a success.

        • @RajRoshan- “Yeah…you can count on srk’s acting capabilities…he makes the movies worse by acting/starring in it”

Well I said the same thing sometime back and Master got very upset. It’s the state of mind and nothing to do with acting / talent etc. Starting with Rab ne, Fan all could have been a decent outing if SRK followed his own basic talent. We are in times when less on screen looks better. Ajay Devgn made a career out of that. The thing is Bachchan fans went thru this when one fine day Amitabh could not act straight in Jaadugar and Toofan turned out to be a liability than advantage. Just read how frustrated Yakuza sounds when he talks about Mrityudaata.

SRK mind has been totally fucked since he got those 6 pack abs in OSO and started to talk and act superficially. The problem with him is that he never had a colossal flop / disaster for him to level up. Then why act like a 20 year old with such a thin waist and all when you are touching 51. Just look at all his recent interviews promoting Raaes and the one with Masand posted here by aamirfan . He does not even open his mouth properly and talk straight like a genuine honest intelligent 50 year old man. Someone must have told him him you look cool and like a yankie with that accent and mumbling.

Fact is the faster he grounds and gets off those pills and ‘puts on decent amount of weight’ better it is for him. I believe it’s a matter of time when srk would be out of these professional setbacks and his sufferings are more on personal level than work front as he seems like a broken man going through the motion. As I said earlier a lot of relationships got ruined in those Mannat parties/orgies whatever we have been told in biographies.

Yeah…and as KRK (ya he is douchebag) tweeted few weeks back if Raees fails to outgross Kaabil even the likes of John Abraham will also dare to clash against srk(funny but that will be srk’s situation)

SRK used to always go hyper and overact…but in last few years he have also started to grump and bore…movies like Don, Ra.one or MNIK would have been better if other controlled actor would have done that rather than too much grumpy srkness (movies like HNY off course can’t be saved even by Aamir)…so even though when he attempts something different or different genre he is one of the main reason for spoiling those movies…surprisingly even salman have started to do better on this front and not doing just masala movies…bb and sultan are examples…and he is trying to play the character in the movie properly limiting his salmanness…srk simply fails to understand rather than visiting Dubai and all such promotions and 100s of interviews a year all he need is to act sincerely and well and have better grip over the movie…rather than it seems he feels movie making is picnic and makes the director believe it too and comes with product like dilwale/hny…Aamir without these gimmicks easily shows the path to everyone…but most of bollywood is trying to fool audience by fake promotions.

And it was very poor choice of him to clash with Kaabil as they have announced the date before and srk considers hr close and as family. This may teach him lesson(or may be not)

On Kaabil its good to see HR back…he was made fun of after MJD debacle…at least he was sincere there and Gowarikar failed…off course these initial tweets are to be taken with grain of salt but Shabana and Rishi kapoor are somewhat trustworthy if not completely…and the praised lines are not looking manufactured but honest…Kaabil storyline had the potential of Ghajini like and finally could be the winner. Solo release would have potential of 200crrs but with clash depends on how good/bad raees is.

Yes its difficult to digest Gupta can come up with brilliant film. But may be RR gave his own inputs from time to time.

Although cannot tell with utmost certainty but SRK camp might know they have poor/mediocre product and its better to keep quiet and get good opening rather than negative/mediocre feedbacks which will damage the opening itself.

Aamir let Dangal reviews pour in much before to take care of wom and everything as he knew and had confidence in his product.

      • Am also surprised to see Shabana Azmi among the first celebs to shower so much praise on Hrithik’s film. I know she likes Hrithik as an actor, but some people are surprised that she chose to promote Kaabil when her step son’s film is in direct competition. It could well be deliberate on her part!

        • She has a vested interest. She was, in fact, THE main turning point in JAZBAA directed by Gupta.

By the way, a question. Which Korean movie is this lifted from?

        • as per reviews – ” online reports tracing the Kaabil story to the Korean flick Broken and the Netflix series Daredevil.”

few lines from mayank shekhar and khalid ansari are a give away that this movie is crap –

Mayank – “Par Hrithik toh roshan kar sakta hai!” Yeah, there are a bunch of such one-liners in this movie.”

“Does the film itself live up to the expectations though? Well, that depends on your expectations. There is a lot of realism missing in what’s supposed to be a gritty thriller. Locations seem semi-fake. In portions, the film itself appears slightly cold, and thoda sa plastic.

Khalid – “such lines are dribbles as, “This couple is so fair and lovely. They will have gora gora children.” These elements are severely outdated if not regressive.

“Snag: the scenes have an excruciatingly fake quality about them like a Rs 300 currency note. Sad.”

  52. Sandyi, Jazbaa is running on repeat mode on cable these days and out of boredom I happened to watch that movie just to enjoy all the talked about dialogue baazi of Irfan ( hyped at the time of release).
But in this movie even he was out of his depth and the screenplay was running haywire. Sanjay Gupta is pretty much a 90s guy and like others in his age category is a passé to get the essence of 2017.
Heck even adi/kjo are sort of outdated in filmmaking now inspite of keeping themselves relevant with time.

I remember all the tweets on Jazbaa when it released as Aishwarya’s comeback movie. So truth will be known in matter of 48 hrs. There is tweet by twinkle khanna and the line – “but then isn’t he always 🙂 #Kaabil” is a giveaway of sort because there aren’t many histrionics of HR lately.

    • i know. hard to believe Gupta can make a credible film. The guy has some talent for song picturisation, but on story and script, can the guy do anything without copying?

And yet, Ash chose to make a comeback with his film, and RR hands him over the directorial reins of his son’s film, esp when Hrithik ABSOLUTELY needs a hit. It will be incredible if the film is good.

Still believe Raees will be the winner, but early reviews are surprising to say the least.

Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil performance will go down as his career best, here’s why…

With Kaabil, Hrithik Roshan has surpassed his poetic performance in Guzaarish.

There are performances where an actor outdoes himself and then there are performances that have a lasting impression on you days after you have walked out of the theatre. Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil falls into both these categories. I watched Hrithik’s Kaabil last night and came out of the theatre with utmost respect for his craft. Forget the clash, forget the trade experts and their numerical spins on how much these films are expected to make, forget any conspiracy theory you might have read about one being better than the other, because these things won’t matter after you have watched Kaabil.
Hrithik like Aamir has been a perfectionist. Aamir’s obsession with his craft is popular while Hrithik’s love for his work hasn’t been that public. But those who have worked or been around him will narrate tales of how he’s all for that perfect shot and take. It doesn’t matter what terrain, climate or odd hour he’s working in, Hritik is all for let’s go for another one.

With Kaabil he has surpassed his poetic performance in Guzaarish, which in my opinion was his most challenging. It isn’t so much about playing a blind man that impresses you. He isn’t the first visually impaired character we have seen on screen. But his understanding of the world without light, his honesty in even showing the greys without evoking any sense of sympathy or feeling sorry for him because he’s blind is what wins your heart. Hrithiks character doesn’t ask for your empathy, neither does he make you cry because of his challenges. In fact the scenes where you might reach out for a tissue are the ones that don’t have Rohan holding a stick or combatting his visual challenge. The most emotional scenes in Kaabil are the moments of love between Hrithik and Yami Gautam.

Kaabil becomes Hrithik’s best performance because he doesn’t worry about the outer appearance and dives deep within to find the grace to play Rohan with utmost sincerity. Be it his opening scene where he’s seen making breakfast or numerous times in the course of the film where he’s seen struggling to even make his way from one place to another. He’s outstanding and at the top of his game.
Kaabil will go down in the cinematic legacy as a performance to remember and reckon with. Take a bow Hrithik Roshan, you have just upped yourself at your own game! Kudos.
