Reports suggest that BADRINATH KI DULHANIA has opened on a good note with occupancy rate during morning shows being pegged at a steady 35%. In fact the film which primarily caters to the youth has seen a very good opening at multiplexes, while single screens aren’t far behind either.
On the whole, the chemistry between lead pair coupled with good music and positive word of mouth from the audience will definitely draw more footfalls over evening and night shows, resulting in a boost for the collections of the film on opening day.
This is in response to Jai’s comment
“But a complete misfire is not solely her fault. And I’d always question the wisdom of the employer before the employee. It’s basic demand and supply concepts. Her main responsibilities are to act to her best, promote well (she failed here as she caused controversy). The rest is down to everyone else.”
I’m not making her the culprit for movie’s failure but commenting on her take on her remuneration in the interview with Masand. But when you fail to deliver as an employee, you face the heat!! And when she is charging such a hefty fee, shouldn’t she bear the responsibility for the outcome of the movie as she is also a stakeholder (loosely) in the project by being so closely associated with it. So when she mentions about producers asking her to take a cut in her fee & her bragging about devoting her 1.5 years to the projects she takes up for to justify continuing charging the same fee is devoid of logic as when she delivered Queen & TWMR, she raised her fee & rightly so as she was the biggest contributor behind the success of these movies but after the 3 disasters one after the other, why should she not revise her fee keeping the fate of her recent movies as logic suggests?? And if she delivers hits with her next movies, she can certainly hike her fee then but right now logic defies her stance!!
Even if she reduces her fees, she need not admit it to save face! If someone wants only her, then they have to pay her. Or she can produce films for herself and get full satisfaction.
The main problem is while she is loads of fun for the tabloids due to the constant controversies, she has made loads of enemies during the last couple of years alone: Hrithik, Shahid, Johar, Devgan and Sanjay Dutt to name a few. Not to mention the likes of Shekhar Suman and Aditya Pancholi who probably aren’t influential enough.
When you are coming off 3 or 4 disasters at the BO, when you have made enemies with practically who-ever you have worked with recently and your only project is Simran (with hardly anyone prolific BO-wise around the project), one may rightly feel that your best days in the industry are probably over by at least 2 years.
@It is also true that you cannot be antagonist with everyone because people will see that you will turn against them at certain point.”
Totally agree. That is why keeping in mind Salman’s helping nature, I am a bit surprised how Salman escaped her ire. It must be Salman’s good karma for her to have declined Kareena’s role in Bajrangi Bhaijaan. When you are on the sets sparks fly…….and there is a story she left behind with each of her association.
Here too KJO has got burnt by offering her a KWK couch where he has rejected many eager beaver celebrities. Prior to this HR and RR have learnt their lessons by offering her Krish 3 by replacing Chitrangada Singh.
Even if your discount the initial crowd like the Bhatt camp, Pancholi, there is long list below who fell for her who ended up on her wrong side –
“To which he replied, “My opinion anything on her will flare up again because of the past history. I feel everybody on earth cannot be wrong, whether it is Karan Johar, Hrithik Roshan, Shekhar Suman, Adhyan Suman, Sanjay Dutt or whether it’s Ajay Devgn, she is just rubbing a lot of people in a wrong way. See I think what you pay gets in return.
Shekhar Suman: Kangana Ranaut should keep her mouth shut
Shekhar Suman has taken a jibe at Kangana Ranaut yet again. He feels the actress should keep her mouth shut.
But regardless of that I am happy she bajaoed KJO big time and kudos to that. It’s not that he is too powerful but he is a power player in the Amar Singh mould…that guy is such a lump of opportunistic shit. No doubt like a lot of famous homesexuals, he is talented ( his clothes design helped dress srk much more than his acting ) but overall a plague in film industry as he plays one against the other and tries to hijack projects.
I’d like make it clear that i’m with Kangana’s retaliatory & give it back attitude as it’d been getting trite guys having all the fun be it right or wrong!! It’s a welcome change to see someone raising her voice against such powerful people not fearing for the “fatal consequences” her stance may bring about for her career!! And this is her attitude which is her USP which she knows too well to deviate or cool down from!! My issue is her false sense of pride in herself for believing as if she is “Khan equivalent” among actresses!! And her constant reference to her 3 national awards is also getting very monotonus & off putting as well as if suggesting national awards are akin to deliverance in acting!! There are so many great actors & actresses who never got national awards which doesn’t take any sheen away from their talent & capabilities, so to make national awards “be all and end all” is streching it too far as Saif, Raveena, Karishma & many other winners have shown in the past. Kangana is also overestimating her worth by making such silly statements where she is saying that she uses never when asked to work with Khans in near future as if she is a tarrot card reader 😉 She is no Madhuri Dixit to dictate such absurd terms which makes her future more vulnerable than the imaginary parallel universe she has created to fulfill her fantasies as it would leave her with negligible choices in the near future!! Talent alone can’t suffice to survive in any sphere has been proven by innumerable examples in the past & Vinod Kambli’s name struck my mind instantly who despite being hailed as a better batsman & more talented than Sachin could not live up to massive expectations due to his lack of professionalism & Kangana should be made aware of this at the earliest as time & tide wait for none. I hope she focuses all her energy & talent in to something worthwhile than squandering golden opportunities she has created through her hard work & hard fought battles.
I agree. There was this cold war between Deepika and Kangana. Deepika moved on with hollywood projects and her own life. I dont know why some highly talented people become self destructive at some point of time. Is it difficult to digest all the accolades? They should learn from Bachchan who is so humble .
I don’t disagree. She’s risking a lot. She is playing a martyr to an extent. But her overall stand is endearing. Douche bags like KJo deserve someone from within to highlight their incredible hypocrisies. She is clearly deranged, I’ve said that. And yes her comparison to higher echelons is unproductive. She needs help etc. But her battle is a fair one and feels honest. The manner of her approach is unpredictable, she’s high on drugs.
Kangna is a real rebel to the core.i admire her for that.plus there is one more reason which others wld feel laughworthy that is she is a huge huge aamir fan and considers him the best.
According to BOI, Dilwale grossed 140cr only thanks to SRK’s BO power. However, expect Varun Dhawan to pull off a 12cr plus opening here!
I do think that more than Ranbir, Varun may be the next big one. He seems to be more versatile. If there are any actors who have the potential to become the new heroes of the masses, then they are Varun and Tiger Shroff.
If this movie works, he has every chance to strike it even bigger with Judwaa 2, which has the potential to be a universal entertainer.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania Takes Good Opening
Friday 10 March 2017 11.45 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badrinath Ki Dulhania has taken a good opening of 30-35%. The morning shows in Mumbai and Gujarat are the second best of the year after Raees while in the North the opening is on par with Jolly LLB 2 which is the second best opening of the year till date. Overall the film is looking at the second best opening of the year after Raees for 2017. The difference between this is and Joly LLB 2 is that Badrinath Ki Dulhania has got more going for it than Jolly LLB 2 for the Friday morning audience while Jolly LLB 2 picked up in the evening as it had nothing for the youth.
The opening is very good for the cost of the film as its a medium budget film and even just holding up over the weekend will ensure a success. The film had competition with Kong – Skull Island but barring down South that film has not really opened and even in South it is an average opening. The Hindi version of the film has opened poorly across North and Central India as Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya is first choice. The film will probably doe better in Tamil and Telugu than Hindi as far as the dubbed versions go.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania is looking at a solid first day and if evenings screenings show the normal uptrend it could end up having the second best opening day of the year which would put the film in a great position.
Watch the Sholay scene between Amitabh, Jaya that took 3 years to shoot
The scene from Sholay where Jaya Bachchan turns off the lanters at dawn as a young, harmonica-playing Amitabh Bachchan looks on, took three years to shoot.
bollywood Updated: Mar 10, 2017 15:39 IST
Good things take time, as did this beautiful scene from Sholay.(YouTube)
Behind-the-scenes stories from the classic Ramesh Sippy film Sholay have always excited the movie buffs and here is another for you. Amitabh Bachchan, who played the intense young man Jai, recently shed light on an unknown fact from the film.
At a recent event here, while speaking about Ramesh Sippy’s sense of accuracy, shared an experience from their shooting days, where they waited for three-long years to get one perfect shot for a scene.
Here’s what Big-B said, “I wonder if you remember a scene in Sholay, where Jaya (Bachchan) is lighting a lamp in the corridor of her home on the first floor and I am sitting in the outhouse playing my mouth organ. There was a particular kind of lighting required for that shot. Our DoP (Director of Photography) was very keen that the shot be done at the time when the sun is setting. You would not believe that we spent three years before we finally got that shot because every time we would get to enact that sequence, something would not be right with the lighting and Ramesh Ji said, until we get the correct light, we are not going to film this. Hence we waited for three years for one flash of a shot in the film.”
At the end of the day, Badrinath Ki Dulhania is only a popcorn social. It is mild in its criticism, doesn’t entangle itself in too many heavy or deep debates and neatly tidies up all the problematic ends through simplistic, frothy solutions.
The coming-of-age of its titular hero from an entitled lout to flag bearer of feminism is farfetched but it’s a narrative that’s also the need of the hour. What will be truly radical though is to completely abandon the need for a romantic reunion.
It helps then that Varun and Alia look so good together. Varun Dhawan’s portrayal of Badrinath is remarkably assured in its depiction of heart and hollowness; it registers despite the transfixing presence of Alia Bhatt.
‘So light and yet fierce that she makes the story almost realistic,’ wrote Roger Ebert about Keira Knightley in his review of Pride and Prejudice. Alia’s performance as Vaidehi deserves to share this stunning description. Her Vaidehi is gentle yet headstrong and mature in ways Badri can only hope to be.
By rendering her character as a picture of refined grace and magnanimity, Alia makes Varun’s turnaround seem emotional not enforced. She is Badrinath’s greatest asset and ability. Both the film and its leading man have the good sense to recognise that.
“I wonder if you remember a scene in Sholay where Jaya (Bachchan) had to light a lamp in the corridor and I am sitting in the outhouse playing the mouth organ. There was particular kind of lighting that was required for the shot. Our DOP Mr Divecha was keen to take the shot at the time of sunset. You would not believe that Rameshji spent almost three years before we finally got that shot.”
“Every time we would go to enact that sequence, something would not be right with the lighting. And Rameshji said ‘until we get a correct light, we are not going to shoot this’. We waited for three years for one flash of a shot for the film,” the 73-year-old actor added.
Tweets on Dutt film are extraordinary. Abhijeet Joshi suggesting already it’s better than 3 Idiots. Wow. Based on rough cut only. If the clash happens, TZH won’t have it easy. Hirani has got mileage.
Abhi se hi industry wale shuru? How much it is completed?
If clash happens and Dutt is indeed good then it will eat huge chunk of TZH business. And if bad it will be another disaster of BV level.
It’s hard to believe the film will be a dud but given the clash it could crumble even if decent. Opening obviously it’s a no brainer, but of Hirani’s films only 3 Idiots opened big. His film I’m convinced will hurt TZH as that film is aiming box office glory. I’ll back Dutt film to be better any day of the week.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania Set For Second Best First Day Of 2017
Saturday 11 March 2017 01.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badrinath Ki Dulhania is looking at the second best opening day of the year as the film will gross around the region of 12.25 crore nett. The highest opening of the year is Raees at 20.29 crore nett while Jolly LLB 2 is second best at 12.06 crore nett. It will be a photo finish but it could edge out the Akshay Kumar starrer which would be an achievement for this much younger cast of Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. The 12 crore nett plus number is also a good start as the film is made at a much lower cost than both Raees and Jolly LLB 2. It is the third consecutive double digit start for a Varun Dhawan starrer and fourth if you count Dilwale but that was a Shahrukh Khan starrer in reality.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania has good collections all over as it has beaten Jolly LLB 2 in most circuits except Delhi city and East Punjab. It has managed to beat Jolly LLB 2 in UP where both films are based but Delhi and Punjab are lower maybe due to the fact that Akshay Kumar is a bigger star or due to the period which does not yield best results in Delhi and Punjab. The film is set to be ahead in Mumbai circuit with business being around 4 crore nett.
The film has also easily beaten Hollywood release Kong – Skull Island in the Hindi markets with collections that are three to four times higher.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania Has Good First Day
Saturday 11 March 2017 11.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badrinath Ki Dulhania has done well on day one with collections of around 12 crore nett. The numbers are very similar to the Akshay Kumar starrer Jolly LLB 2 and the film is the second highest opener ever for a Varun Dhawan starrer after ABCD 2 if we leave Dilwale out of the equation. The difference between ABCD 2 and Badrinath Ki Dulhania is that the former was a summer release while the latter has come in March. Despite ABCD 2 being a dance film which don’t really work in North and Badrinath Ki Dulhania being a very North Indian film the collections of ABCD 2 were more in North when it should be the opposite. The film has put up a good number but a summer release could have meant 2 crore added on day one alone.
The collections of the film have beaten Jolly LLB 2 in most circuits with mainly Delhi city having a shortfall and East Punjab having a huge a shortfall. It was raining in parts of East Punjab which could have affected collections by 10-15%. The opening and extended weekend with Holi on Monday is enough to ensure the success of the film but with the last film in the franchise doing 73 crore nett in its lifetime run and Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt consolidating themselves as stars since that film it should be going much higher for than that film.
The March period may not be good for such a youth love story in terms of potential to collect but the plus is a lack of competition as far as big films go in the next few weeks which could allow the film to sustain well if it gets the appreciation.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania Has Solid Second Day Growth
Saturday 11 March 2017 23.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badrinath Ki Dulhania is course to being a HIT film as the film showed good growth of around 20% on its second day. The second day business will be around 14.25 crore nett which will take the film to around 26.25 crore nett for two days. The film had huge growth in East Punjab as it recovered ground from low first day number and in other places the growth was generally good though markets like Rajasthan and Gujarat which will eventually decide how far this film will go showed less growth. These markets are important as there are some markets like North which will score and others like West Bengal and Nizam / Andhra which won’t and the likes of Gujarat and Rajasthan can go either way.
The film is hitting Holi period over the few days which should give good collections barring on Monday morning though the rest of the day should make up for it. If the film does well over this holiday period and then sustains it even has chances of becoming the biggest hit of 2017 as the competition it has to face in terms of releases is not very strong and this can give the film a prolonges run. The highest grossing films of Varun Dhawan (outside Dilwale) and Alia Bhatt which are ABCD 2 and 2 States both stand at around the 102-103 crore nett mark and this film can challenge those figures.
The March period may not be good for such a youth love story in terms of potential to collect but the plus is a lack of competition as far as big films go in the next few weeks which could allow the film to sustain well if it gets the appreciation.
Ofcourse. This is as nonsensical as it gets.Jury list consists of Boney Kapoor, Pradeep Sarkar, Tigmanshu Dhulia,Sudeep Chatterjee ISC, the distinguished lyricist & playback singer, Swanand Kirkire, Kavita Krishnamurti Subramaniam and Resul Pookutty. There seems to be an agenda of Awards.it can’t be jury’s decision. That’s why today nobody gives a shit to these idiot shows.Aamir took a stance against these long time ago.screen awards announced nominations even before dangal release so that they can save themselves from embarassment of awarding dangal all the way.I guess they wld say we considered films upto nov only.if that is the case, dangal shld be nominated in next year’s screen awards.let’s see if they wld fall in trap or not.
aamirsaurabh why are you giving so much importance to so called “irrelevant & valueless” awards which even your favourite does not “recognise”!! All awards shows have become a dance & entertainment shows & even those who win don’t take them seriously so why rue over such futile, worthless things when Dangal has got the biggest award in the form of worldwide gross of INR 742 & so much love from the people which is Dangal’s real success not these “bought & sold” awards!! So relax & revel as Aamir’s birhday is just 2 days away 🙂
Holdover Releases Are Down
Saturday 11 March 2017 12.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
The holdover releases have all gone down badly as two new films Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Kong – Skull Island released. The latter has not done well with collections looking to be a little under 3 crore nett unless the Tamil and Telugu versions record higher numbers. Logan is the best of the holdover releases with 75 lakhs nett which takes it total to around 24.75 crore. Its a big fall for the film as is has not found the apprecation in India as it has in its domestic market. the lifetime business of the film may reach 30 crore nett in a best case scenario.
Commando 2 fell flat on day eight which was expected the film has grossed around 30 lakhs nett on its eight day and its lifetime business will not even reach 25 crore nett. The film is a FLOP
Rangoon is out of theatres and will hardly collect 5-10 lakhs this week.
Jolly LLB 2 is also now hardly collecting in its fifth week with collections on its fifth Friday around 5 lakhs nett. the film will close at around 107.50 crore nett.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania Day Two Business
Sunday 12 March 2017 12.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badrinath Ki Dulhania had growth on Saturday as collections were up more than 20%. It is good growth from a good opening number and crucially the film managed to grow at multiplexes of Nizam / Andhra and Maharashtra as well. The film is looking in a very good position with this Saturday number of in the 14.25-14.50 crore nett range and will add good numbers over the next two days. The test will be Tuesday and even on Tuesday some places perform well the day after Holi. The second highest weekend of the year is Jolly LLB 2 at 47.59 crore nett and that may be out of the reach but it should end up with the third highest weekend of the year and then hope to hold better than Jolly LLB 2 in the long run. The business of Badrinath Ki Dulhania (Hindi) till date is as follows.
Friday – 12,00,00,000
Saturday – 14,25,00,000
TOTAL – 26,25,00,000
There are still some cities in East Punjab that are not up to the mark for a film like this as they should be much better and maybe it will be post Holi that they will come on board. The limited competition in the coming weeks gives it a chance to be the biggest hit in the careers’s of Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. It will be a big result for the film if it topples Jolly LLB 2.
I was in India two weeks back, and could anecdotally sense a powerful undercurrent of support for Modi among poor classes. DeMo has tremendously helped NaMo. What he does with this absolute power will be the million dollar question now. Tax Evaders in India should start shivering right about now. He is going to come back with a bigger gun than DeMo.
REVEALED! Here’s why Salman Khan opted out of ‘Battle Of Saragarhi’
There has been much anticipation around the film Salman Khan announced in collaboration with Karan Johar and Akshay Kumar. The film was based on the ‘Battle Of Saragarhi’, while Karan and Salman were to co-produce the film, Akshay was to play the main lead.
However, rumour mills are abuzz with the news of Salman opting out of the project. It is a known fact that Ajay Devgn was planning to make a film based on ‘Battle Of Saragarhi’, but the film is yet to go on floors. Salman was not aware of this until he made an announcement of his collaboration with Karan and Akshay.
Ajay and Salman are good friends, and since Salman had no clue about Ajay’s plans to make a film on the similar subject, he gave a go ahead to the film. However, he soon opted out as he came to know of the fact. A source close to DNA revealed, “Karan and Ajay have been at loggerheads for a while. And while Karan knew that Ajay was making this film, he went ahead and announced his.. to be co-produced by Salman and starring Akshay Kumar. But now with Salman not being part of this project, it will be interesting to see if KJo will still go ahead with this film.”
Shah Rukh Khan who recently underwent a surgery on his left shoulder shared a picture of his arm post the operation on his social media account. Now the actor has been clicked chilling with none other than Aamir Khan.
King Khan hosted a small get together at his mansion Mannat, which saw Aamir and Netflix CEO Reed Hastings in attendance. What’s interesting is the fact that both the Khans seem to be spending a lot of time together lately.
Salman Khan backs out of Karan Johar’s film with Akshay Kumar
A couple of months back it was announced that Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan are teaming up for Karan Johar’s ambitious project based on the Battle of Saragarhi. The film was expected to go on the floors in 2018 however the latest reports are suggesting that Salman Khan has backed out of the film.
Apparently, Salman Khan had no idea that his close friend Ajay Devgn was also working on a similar project titled as Sons of Sardaar. Both the films are based on Havildar Ishar Singh of 36th Sikhs. In fact, Ajay had apparently written an open letter to Salman about his film Sons of Sardaar: Battle of Saragarhi.
According to reports in DNA, once he got to know that Ajay Devgn, one of his close friends is also working on a similar project, he decided not to work on Karan Johar’s film. It was supposed to be a big budget film but things will be interesting now as Salman has backed out from the film.
Ajay Devgn and Karan Johar had an ugly spat last year during the release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay. Since then both have been taking digs at each other.
Btw, it seems that the Santoshi-Randeep Hooda project on the same subject has hit a roadblock following a disagreement between
Santoshi and the producers. Devgan is focusing on Baadsaho and Golmaal 4 these days. And the last time he tried to go for this project, high production costs deterred his producers. Shivaay’s fate will not make it easier for him.
The project on the theme seems jinxed. J.P. Dutta has been trying to make a film on it since years and had announced Border 2 based on it.
And then there were announcements of these 3 projects. All of them have run into trouble at the pre-production stage.
Against my wishes i am watching parts of Sultan. Its YRF all-over, ridiculous to compare it to Dangal. His speech post winning gold medal LOL. Seriously how is there even a comparison. It feels like a boy’s film compared to a man’s like Dangal.
To add the moment Sultan decided to go back to wrestling I gave up. Possibly the film becomes Sholay after this and Salman becomes DeNiro. Maybe someone can fill in the rest for me.

Team India urgently needs specialist short-leg fielders. The job requires you to stand close to batsman’s shoelaces on spitting subcontinental surfaces. Occupational hazards include broken bones, split webbing and concussions.
Attractive salary: Rs 15 lakhs and additional perks including man of the match award for holding winning catches.
PS: Priority will be given to candidates with prior experience in the domestic circuit, extra points for bravery awards.
Suitable candidates can send their CVs to bccitestteam@bcci.com
One afternoon in the mid-80s, during his long reign as Aussie skipper, Allan Border took a desperate decision, that in the years to come, would prove to be a masterstroke. He walked to his opener David Boon, of the stocky built and tumbling tummy frame, and asked him to head to the vacant short-leg position. “Mate, I don’t know where to hide you. So you’re gonna stand right in here.” Little then did Border know that Boon would make a career out of plucking blinders standing dangerously close to the batsmen. He had minimum protection and showed least urgency to pass on the chores to the team’s Johnny-come-lately, as was, and still is, the norm. “There were several alternatives for fielding there, but Boon would fiercely guard his piece of terrain until his very last days,” recollects Shane Warne.
In Australia’s second innings in Pune, Indian captain Virat Kohli must have felt like Border. He didn’t know where to hide Abhinav Mukund, the substitute fielder. He had just spilled Steve Smith at mid-on; perhaps the nerves of someone returning to Test cricket after six years was telling on Mukund. And then the substitute fielder was dispatched to short-leg. The move lacked wisdom. The Test was in the third innings, the surface was spiteful and Ravichandran Ashwin was getting vicious turn. You want your best fielders at short-leg, not a nervy man on his comeback trail.
But that’s the way it is for designating short-legs these days—a preserve of the fresher, where he should spend his apprenticeship days. It’s a probationary positing, where it’s not the requisite skill but hierarchy that matters.
Box Office: Badrinath Ki Dulhania collects 17 cr. on Day 3, has a weekend of 44 crores
By Joginder Tuteja

Badrinath-Ki-Dulhania (2)
Karan Johar, Shashank Khaitan, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt can well pop the champagne, or even better – get ready to have some ‘bhaang’ this Holi! They can afford to be intoxicated, what with their film turning out to be a solid Hit within days of its release. The film brought in Rs. 17 crore* more on Sunday and that was pretty much on the expected lines since it has been accepted by the family audiences. The film is seeing collections on an upwards sprint and that was evidenced on Sunday night as well when several shows across the countries were going houseful.
The film would see some dip in numbers till afternoon today since the festive season of Holi has kick-started. As a matter of fact several theaters are expected to give a break to their employees as well for these few hours. However, expect the footfalls to gain in number on a massive scale from late afternoon shows as well and right till the late evening. Due to today being a holiday, the film would see a nominal drop over its Friday number [Rs. 12.25 crore]. On a regular day a drop of around 40% would have been acceptable. However, as things stand today, it appears like a 30% drop at maximum, which is good.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania has Rs. 44 crore* in its kitty already and a huge number today would go a long way in deciding the eventual total where the film lands up finally.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania Records Third Best Weekend Of 2017
Monday 13 March 2017 11.15 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badrinath Ki Dulhania had a good first weekend of 42 crore nett apprx even though business was affected by pre Holi and the start of exams. The film grew very well on Saturday but on Sunday some theatres did not start screenings till evening due to Holi and this limited the growth on Sunday. This should be recovered over the next couple of days. The best business has come in Delhi / UP but this market could have been even better were it not for some of these factors. The film has not out performed in the North as it should have but it should after Holi and in the long run. Mumbai has done very well for a North based film. The business of Badrinath Ki Dulhania (Hindi) till date is as follows.
Friday – 12,00,00,000
Saturday – 14,25,00,000
Sunday – 15,75,00,000
TOTAL – 42,00,00,000 apprx
The opening is the third best of the year after Raees (59.48 crore) and Jolly LLB 2 (47.59 crore) and has easily beaten far bigger films like Kaabil (30.65 crore) and Rangoon (14.43 crore) though these films were poor at the box office so is probably not right to compare a successful film with them.
The first film in the series Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania released in 2014 grossed 32.97 crore nett so its a healthy 25% improvement on that film and this improvement should be higher over the film. The costs are pretty low for the film so it is a success just due to the weekend business but eventually a film has to sustain and how well this can sustain will be known on Tuesday and Wednesday.
BKD Is Biggest Varun Dhawan Opener Worldwide And Overseas
Monday 13 March 2017 11.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badrinath Ki Dulhania has emerged the biggest opener in overseas for Varun Dhawan and is the first to cross $2 million in the first weekend for Varun Dhawan outside Dilwale. The Overseas business is set to go around to $2.50 million and Worldwide total will be close to 75 crore which is also a record for Varun Dhawan beating the 72 crore of ABCD 2.
The film has beaten the figures of established stars like Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan in both of the big western markets of US / Canada and United Kingdom. In US / Canada it is the second biggest opener of the year with around $825,000 beating Jolly LLB 2 which was in second place. In united Kingdom it has beaten Kaabil with around £200,000.
However in Gulf it is lower than Kaabil and a little less than Jolly LLB 2. Raees remains the top opener in all markets by a distance. Jolly LLB 2 had grossed $2.53 million and Kaabil was $2.37 million and Badrinath Ki Dulhania has the same range despite younger stars. The top Varun Dhawan openers in Overseas are as follows.
Superstar Salman Khan has clarified that he is collaborating with actor Akshay Kumar for a project and has requested everybody to not believe in rumours.
On Sunday night Salmaan tweeted: “Don’t follow rumors. Follow me. Ek baar jo maine commitment kar di toh phir… Very much doing film with Akshay Kumar.”
Earlier this year, Salman had announced that he will be co-starring with Akshay in a project to be produced by Karan Johar.
Salman had said that Akshay will be the hero of the film which he will co-produce and will come out in 2018.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania Has A Huge Monday
Monday 13 March 2017 23.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badrinath Ki Dulhania is heading for a huge Monday with business set to be similar to the first day due to it being a holiday for Holi. It is a restricted holiday but acts like a national holiday post the morning shows. Badrinath Ki Dulhania is likely to collect around 11.50-12 crore nett on Monday as per early estimates. This will take the business of the film to around 53.50 crore nett in four days which is very good. The Monday number has almost ensured the film is a HIT though the real weekdays are still to come for the film and it is the next few days that will will tell where the film is going and that 8th day hold will be crucial for a big final; number.
The very strong Monday number has also come because although the weekend numbers were good they could have been bigger as some areas did not perform how they could have had it not been pre Holi.
The early figures from North India suggest that North will come out more than the first day and this could be the case for the Central India markets. The figures from other circuits look similar to Monday or a little less. It is by far the biggest figure for a Varun Dhawan or Alia Bhatt film and is even bigger than the Monday of Dilwale which is technically the biggest Monday for a Varun Dhawan starrer though there was Shahrukh Khan in the film for the numbers.
Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya- Some funny moments in between an otherwise long stretched dull movie. Varun was good but mediocre in serious scenes. Alia was wasted.
This movie is not bad but is a disappointment for such kind of films. The second half especially is too long.
Seems multiplexes are struggling during weekdays. Some are offering a one time lumpsum payment valid for a month so that one can watch movies limitlessly from monday to thursday.
They can also supply popcorn at reasonable rates during those days!
Superstar Aamir Khan who turned today and has invited the Haryana-based Phogat family, on whom his film ‘Dangal’ is based, to attend the celebrations in Mumbai.
“Yes, we have been invited and all of us are going,” champion wrestler Babita Phogat told PTI over phone today.
Babita said she, along with her sister Geeta and their father Mahavir Phogat, is among those who have been invited and will be attending Aamir’s birthday function.
Though Anil Kapoor hasn’t played father to his elder daughter Sonam Kapoor as yet, the actor is all set to share screen space with his son, newbie Harshvardhan Kapoor. The one-film-old Kapoor lad has apparently stepped on board for a biopic on renowned shooter and Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra.
While Harshvardhan will play the protagonist, it is being said that his father and evergreen actor Anil Kapoor will be seen as the shooter’s father and industrialist-millionaire AS Bindra. The latter is based in Chandigarh and he runs agro-food based business in Punjab. From what we hear, Abhinav’s father has played a significant role in the career of his son and has always supported his dreams. It has been learnt that AS Bindra even went a step ahead and made investments in a farm house in order to allow his son to practice the sport in peace.
On the other hand, reportedly other details of the film has apparently been locked which includes cast, studio, finance and the script. However, an official announcement on all of it is yet to be made. Anil Kapoor is currently shooting in London and the makers we hear are planning to kick start the shooting of the film in summer this year.
2.0: Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar film’s satellite rights sold for Rs 110 crore
Kollywood grapevine is abuzz that the makers of superstar Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film 2.0 have closed the deal for the film’s satellite rights with a private channel for a record price.
According to reports, the Zee TV Network has bought the satellite rights of the film’s Tamil, Telugu and Hindi versions for an astronomical price, which is pegged at Rs 110 crore. If reports are to be believed, it will be the highest price ever paid for the satellite rights of a regional film.
Creative Head of Lyca Productions Raju Mahalingam confirmed the news that the filmmakers have partnered with Zee TV networks but did not reveal the details of the deal. “It’s TRUE” Lyca Productions’s gets a partner in Zee for our Mega Opus 2.0 Satellite!!!,” he posted on his Twitter account.
2.0 is being touted as India’s most expensive film, and the second costliest in Asia. The film is made at a whopping budget of about Rs 400 crore using the state-of-the-art technology. Adding to the fan frenzy around the film, the makers have also cast Bollywood star Akshay Kumar as the main antagonist.
Watched Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya over the weekend.
The movie is good and i enjoyed it. 🙂
Both Alia and Varun rocked big time on screen. The movie subtely, satirically and over dramatically (hence one may not like few scenes if any of the three doesn’t suit to your sensibilities) touches the issue of dowry and societal pressure on females in India to get married, leave jobs post marriage and perform rituals etc.
Songs were good. But the best part were –
1. Dialogs – The movie very effectrively uses the Awadhi / Bhojpuri to show innocence of the actors. PK was the other film that used it effectively. The langiage allows humor as well as realistic portrayal of the lead actors. Here Varun scored over Alia, who could have done better.
2. Music – Tamma Tamma rocked big time on screen. Title song is very good too.
3. Character consistency – Any good movies must have this and BKD takes care of this as well.
Supporting actors are fine. Varun’s freind leaves a feel good effect about him.
If Secret Superstar is indeed like Taare Zameen Par as far as Aamir’s role is concerned, then its going to be the mother of all clashes in Aug this year – Aamir vs SRK.
Of course SRK-Imtiaz film is releasing one week after and is bound to open much higher. But the real battle will be in trending. SS is a small film which will probably get a limited release and depend on WOM for a long run in order to get to a substantial total. If both films do well, then we will have a result similar to TZP vs Welcome clash in 2007.
I doubt if a 40 min role in a 2 hr movie can be termed as a cameo. Its more like a supporting act like in TZP and Dhobi Ghat. He tends to do substantial supporting acts in his home productions.
why is mohenjadaro not a disaster with budget of 138cr and ind. nett 53cr,also Overseas is very poor under 5m$.it is a sureshot disaster.i guess it’s one of the biggest losers easily in top 3-4.
Why did you refuse to play the poet and writer Kamala Das in Malayalam director Kamal’s film? He was very upset with your exit.
It was very unfortunate. I finally opted out because we had creative differences. It was made out to be something else, which I don’t appreciate at all. There wasn’t an iota of truth that I was threatened against playing the role in any way. That statement came as a shock to me – I have not received one word from anyone.
Kamala Das is very well respected, and when you are playing a real-life character, you have to be that much more careful about someone revered and loved. I would rather not do it than do it badly.
‘ Dear NDTV, he just said “I don’t go to award functions. For me the biggest award is the audiences’ reaction and love. I don’t want to comment on awards” He didn’t even mention about national award. Don’t dont put words in his mouth to sensationalize the news.
that’s the point, media wants to twist it and make it spicy for readers and for some to spew their venom in form of comment.’
Badrinath Ki Dulhania Continues To Hold Strong
Tuesday 14 February 2017 23.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badrinath Ki Dulhania had a strong hold on Tuesday after its big total on Monday. The film has grossed around 7 crore nett on Tuesday to takes its five day total to 61 crore nett apprx. The film still has benefit of Holi in some areas and those held up very well. The drop was around 30% in North and Central India where the collections are strong the after Holi while places like Mumbai and South dropped 50% from yesterday. At the moment the collections are not even down 50% from the first day which is very good but that post Holi factor is at play and the film will find a level over the next two days.
The highest first week of the year is Raees at 102 crore nett which is not out of reach for Badrinath Ki Dulhania but the film has crossed the first week number of a bigger film like Kaabil in just seven days and it could chase down the 72.98 crore nett first week total of Jolly LLB 2 which is the second highest of the year.
The Tuesday business ensures the film is a HIT and it may even cross the business of Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania in one week flat and even if it does not it will be very close. After the failure of so many sequels like Rock On 2, Force 2, Tum Bin 2, Kahaani 2 and Commando 2 finally one goes the right way.
Review: ‘Trapped’ centres on one man’s fight for survival. He is not on a deserted island (‘Cast Away’) or an isolated canyon (‘127 Hours’) or an ocean (‘Life of Pi’) but in a Mumbai apartment, right in the middle of a crowded street. Vikramaditya Motwane’s brilliance lies in turning this unsuspecting setup into a hellish playground.
Denial turns into panic as the sun sets and a sense of claustrophobia creeps in making you hold your breath. You feel imprisoned on that flat along with the protagonist who does whatever it takes to survive, even facing his fear of rats. His hallucinations become yours. Hunger can turn one into a beast, so this one’s certainly not for the faint-hearted. It often makes your squirm in your seat with its appalling proceedings. You do heave a sigh of relief after the film ends and value your freedom on walking out. The thought that you have the privilege to gorge on some buttery roadside Pav Bhaji that Shaurya couldn’t, is a testament to the makers’ victory.

Dangal (Hindi) is continuing its run at the box office into its twelfth week as it make it to 84 days in Mumbai, Ahmdebad, Pune and Noida. The film is getting a longer run than the other mega blockbusters of the past few years like PK, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Dhoom 3 as these films did not make it so far. It remains to be seen if the film can hit 100 days in any centre with Mumbai and / or Pune looking the best bets. The business of Dangal (Hindi) till date is as follows.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania Wednesday Business
Thursday 16 March 2017 11.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network
Badrinath Ki Dulhania had its first major fall since its release as the post Holi factor dies down but the collections are still good as on a Wednesday it is doing around 50% of the first day business. The flm is very strong in places like UP, Rajasthan and CPCI. The first week is looking at business of around 72.50-73 crore nett which will be in the same range as Jolly LLB 2 which is the second highest first week grosser of 2017 after Raees. After that it will be the crucial 8th day which will tell where the film is going. The business of Badrinath Ki Dulhania (Hindi) till date is as follows.
Friday – 12,00,00,000
Saturday – 14,25,00,000
Sunday – 15,75,00,000
Monday – 12,00,00,000
Tuesday – 7,50,00,000
Wednesday 5,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL – 67,25,00,000 apprx
The first week business is still hard to judge as the Wednesday and Thursday business will not show the normal weekday trend due to the Holi factor.
It most probably will end around around the 100cr mark.
Varun Dhawan has made huge strides, in terms of consistency at the BO. I was watching Student Of The Year and he was playing second fiddle to Sidharth Malhotra there. It was a crap film really, basically a wanna-be-Hollywood-prom-movie or Saved by the Bell kind of spin off, and that’s being very kind and generous to the movie. Towards the end, one of the supporting actors yells out- “Student of the year, my ass!” and it sums up the whole concept and quality of the movie.
But Varun seems to be quite consistent. I don’t think Humpty Sharma or BKD are any kind of great cinema either. Far from that. But he tried different deals like Badlapur and Main Tera Hero, which are vastly different from each other.
I do feel that, despite BOI looking quite orgasmic and enthusiastic over BKD’s BO prospects (is it because of Johar?), it will be a decent hit. Nothing to shout on rooftops about. But Dhawan can go much higher than that with Judwaa 2, I feel. He was damned good in MTH. And Judwaa 2 has the potential to be one of those massy films that gets universal acceptance.
Finally,i won against BOI for dangal mumbai circuit record.if u all remember i oppsed BOI saying dangal wldn’t break mumbai record, they said the same in their last report as well stating the same around 3 times.During their last report, seeing collns i was assured it wld break mumbai record going by logic though even if it wldn’t have break it wld have been a very very very close thing and highlighted the matter on SS but BOI denied it outright.non mumbai record wld have just taken the sheen off dangal.now finally they have updated collns till week11 and it’s a mumbai record for dangal.
I noted one thing in Badrinath ki dulhaniya. There was a scene where Varun Dhawan gets in trouble with a group of goons and later it was revealed that those guys are part of a gay gang and they do some ‘light molestation’ to Varun. The whole scene is perceived as a comedy scene especially since the rest of the people on-screen laugh it off. Most people in the audience laughed it off too.
It really shows the dual mentality of the audience. What if this scene had Alia being attacked by the goons and being ‘light molested’. would it still be laughable?
or What if this featured Alia being attacked by a bunch of lesbian goons? Laughable ..right?
The duality is not just in terms of male vs female bias but also straight vs homosexual bias.

This is my logic card!

Hence we waited for three years for one flash of a shot in the film.”

http://www.rediff.com/movies/report/badrinath-ki-dulhania-review-a-popcorn-social

Tweets are in that link I don’t know if they are authentic.
IF directly from Hirani and co I’d be disappointed and shocked they’d lie given the reputation they have built. Dangal marketing was similar.

Not good news for Karan Johar:
Since then both have been taking digs at each other.
https://www.bollyarena.net/salman-khan-backs-out-of-karan-johars-film-with-akshay-kumar/

Wanted: Specialist short-leg fielder for the Indian cricket team
Indian cricket team has been struggling to find a specialist fielder for short-leg position in Test cricket.

By Joginder Tuteja
, Mar 13, 2017 – 9:27 am IST
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited

1. Badrinath Ki Dulhania – $2.50 million apprx
2. Dishoom – $1.97 million
3. ABCD 2 – $1.45 million
4. Badlapur $1.05 million
5. Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania – $1.04 million

This movie is not bad but is a disappointment for such kind of films. The second half especially is too long.

Overall: 3.5/5 (SuperHit)

Seems like Aamir has a substantial role in Secret Superstar. Another Taare Zameen Par like supporting act?

***SPOILERS
People really lose perspective in seconds!
