Baahubali will now hopefully get a pan-India release.
It will be worth seeing which film gets to the highest worldwide total for an Indian film – Baahubali 2 (in all versions) or Dangal with its second phase overseas release in China and other territories.
Dangal craze is unprecedented and Aamir has gone on to an another level in china.He is getting mobbed everywhere not by indian diaspora (which is not infact there) but local chinese ppl.According to reports,His live chat views on weibo(chinese twitter) were 21 million+3 million =24 millon. Dangal is going to beat PK by a huge margin and create a history mark my words,Sky is the limit there.Taiwan wld easily cross 4M$ at the very least and china is 55-60 times bigger than taiwan.I know many wldn’t be following that thing but expect min 30M$,Max limit i can’t put.Even by 30M$,it wld be close to 200cr and then a shot at 1000cr with lined up korea,HK,japan release.BB2 wldn’t get even to 800cr leave alone 1000cr.
Marcus it’s not doing just well,it’s doing historic business in taiwan.Was even at no.1 in 3rd weekend(first time an indian movie topped foreign BO That too an alien market) of release not by average or something but by collections.
No offense meant but if its about all languages combined, Baahubali is already (and still is) the highest NETT grosser “domestically” with over 400 Cr. Baahubali 2 (all languages) is expected to annihilate it and at the least case open 500 Cr nett club.
On day 1 itself Baahubali 2 is going to collect nearly 40Cr SHARE from two Telugu states alone. Collect close to 100 Cr NETT domestically on Day 1 itself. Nothing more to say bas six days ki baat hai, things will be clear to everyone soon.
A lot of over reporting is done for telegu and other southern films. Its unlikely that baahubali did 400 cr nett in india. Most reports say its 650 cr worldwide gross.

Yes, over reporting is done but that is for Tamil not for Telugu films. The error, even if its there, is the least among all Indian film industries. That 650 Cr WW gross is right as much as 400 Cr+ Nett in India (all languages included). In Overseas Telugu films have very small market compared to Hindi (biggest) and Tamil (second biggest) films. US is major market for Telugu films and BB collected 6.69M there. BB2 is expected to cross 10M from US with first day (Thursday premieres+Friday) alone being more than 4M.

Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, has ordered an investigation into the state’s top award – the Yash Bharti – set up by Mulayam Singh Yadav over two decades ago and given to Amitabh Bachchan, Naseeruddin Shah and Nawazuddin Siddiqui among others.
Mulayam Singh started the award in 1994 to honour eminent personalities who have done the state proud. During his son Akhilesh Yadav’s rule, however, there were allegations that the prize – Rs. 11 lakh cash and 50,000 monthly pension – was being handed out arbitrarily, mainly for the financial benefit.
Sources say if the inquiry establishes “misuse” of the award, the 50,000 monthly pension may be cancelled for recipients.
Some “Yash Bharti” winners like the Bachchan family – Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai – have not taken the pension.
Over the years, others who have been honoured include eminent poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, singers like Shubha Mudgal and Kailash Kher and cricketer Bhuwaneshwar Kumar.
Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan starred in Piku and the audience loved them. Now, fans can rejoice as the Piku duo is all set to reunite for Vishal Bhardwaj’s untitled next project. The film will be helmed by Vishal Bhardwaj’s longtime associate Honey Trehan. The film will be co-produced by Prerna Arora and Arjun N Kapoor.
Coming to the role, Deepika Padukone will be portraying the character of a mafia queen named Rahima Khan who was popularly known as Sapna Didi in the 80s. Irrfan Khan, on the other hand, will be portraying character of a local gangster who is in love with Rahima Khan. The duo then will join hands in Rahima’s mission to kill Dawood Ibrahim.

There is nothing wrong in your commentary . Performance of the film is exemplary. I would say these numbers trivalize every other achievement of the film in domestic as well as other overseas markets which itself was a record.
Dangal BO performance in Taiwan is terrific. Getting these sorts of numbers from non conventional market is astounding, considering the fact that the audience does not consist of the regular Indian diaspora . If the film performs in the same way in China than it would be one of the biggest achievement ever at the box office.
3 idiots by far remains the most popular film in the last two decades. The film’s goodwill has helped Aamir to make inroads into other big markets such as Taiwan, hong Kong and China.
Raj actually Taiwan is 55-60 times smaller than china with population of just 2.25 cr even much lesser population than just Punjab state with FF expected in range of 5Lacs.So,u can understand 4M$ in taiwan means as it’s a very very small country..Actually,it seems like that Dangal wld even beat XXX in taiwan.Taiwan is just more or less similar to china so performance in china is expected to be similar min 30M$.

Like in India FF8 is a superhit and may nett 75-80Cr. So if a Chinese film (Not Jackie Chan ones but mainstream chinese films) even doing 10 cr nett, will be Huge. Same comparison for Dangala would set things into perspective.
OK i think the biggest any foreign/hollywood movie has done in china is 350m$-360m$.Dangal wld surely do 30m$ there may be even more and biggest non aamir starrer bollywood movie in china is fan with 0.21m$ and dangal wld do more than 150 times of fan.i hope this is clear now.
3I did 2.4m$ in china but rls was way too late in 2011 and everyone had already seen it online in china.To tell u simply 3I is probably the most popular non hollywood foreign movie in china.It’s at no.12 on chinese IMDB(douban) and has 6.25 Lakh votes more than many many hollywood biggies with rating of 9.1.If it releases today in place of dangal in china,ie 4 months after original release,it cld have done even 100m$ in china.Cld have set such records which wld have been impossible for any other indian movie to break,even aamir wld have found it very hard. According to reports, the delay is caused due to special effects. It is apparently taking more time than expected, and so the movie’s release date has been pushed. Official word on the same is not out as of now. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala, however, tweeted, “BREAKING: @superstarrajini – @akshaykumar ‘s #2Point0 release postponed from #Diwali2017 to Jan 25th, 2018 due to VFX taking more time.(sic).”
‘The pace is relentless. If the film behaves like a family film like BB, Sat could be close to 25Cr, Sun 30cr+, week 2 should be above P.K’s 94cr easily (anything around 100-120cr is possible). Sultan will be passed in week 2 possibly but unsure about drop on 2nd Monday as its post New Year. Based on P.K trend, Dangal can pass 350cr with some ease and with this Friday base would be highly disappointing if it didn’t. If it see’s a release in China (I presume likely given his track record there) this film can open the 1,000cr gross club.’
I said that on 30th December 2016. Remember my prediction, in India all came true. 1,000 CR WW was possible, i don’t know the yen to rupee conversion but P.K in China is on the radar for sure.
Of course with sarcasm i say whatever Dangal does in China, Tubelight should do multiples of at least on opening. Aamir only struggling in UK relatively and maybe UAE. But he’s got total dominance now in US and China the two biggest markets now. And China well is REAL as it is not Indian diaspora dependent.

2.0 has a lot at stake due to its high budget and it is good for the film to look for a less clouded release date. It might actually end up arriving at Pongal next year.
SS is now in the best possible situation. A content film only looks better when pitted against a no-brainer silly film (going by the golmaal franchise history). It happened so during TZP vs. Welcome, when a content film with Aamir in a supporting role took on a multistarrer comedy. Here also Aamir has a supporting role (reportedly 40-45 mins of screen time in a 2 hr film). And Golmaal is a comedy franchise.
“Sanjay was taken aback when he saw the picture that was doing the rounds on the Internet. The resemblance is uncanny and Sanjay couldn’t stop staring at them,” says Dutt’s spokesperson.
A source close to the actor reveals that Dutt had no clue about the look and was surprised, when the photos took the internet by storm. “Sanjay got to know from someone how Ranbir’s look was circulated on various websites and everyone loved it. That’s when the actor learnt about the photos. On seeing them, he was stunned at the similarities that filmmaker Raju Hirani and Ranbir Kapoor had worked upon. He has absolutely loved it,” informs a source.
Ranbir’s look as a younger Sanjay Dutt, leaked in February last, and had also gone viral. At an event in Mumbai, last week, Ranbir said that the shooting for the film is 60 percent complete.
“As you can see, I’m in the look of Sanjay Dutt and we have shot for more than half of the film. It feels proud that I’m part of his biopic and I’m very thankful to Vinod Sir (Vidhu Vinod Chopra) and Sanjay (Dutt) sir specially for it,” Ranbir was quoted as saying.
Noor Has Disastrous First Day

Noor had a very poor first day as it grossed 1.25 crore nett. It looked the opening was going to be low but this low is a shocker because you would expect it to be close to the 2 crore nett mark. This leaves the film with hardly any chance as the first day has hardly shown an improvement so no way can day two show enough improvement for the film to even put up close to respectable numbers. The collections are not even 50% of other heroine orientated films like Phillauri, Naam Shabana and Begum Jaan and its not as if these films opened well.
Sonakshi Sinha who had a flying start to her career has seen rank bad films in the recent past like Lootera and Akira which found no appreacittion but this is another low all together. Its very poor cinema and you cant really expect the audience to turn up for films like Noor. Akira released around eight months back had opened to collections of 4.81 crore nett which was poor but this is a huge 75% lower.
Going forward there is little hope unless some miracle happens but thats a very unlikely scenario. the other films like Maatr, Ajab Singh Ki Gazab Ki Kahani and Ek Rani Aisi Bhi Thi hardly found an audience.
So Lootera is not appreciated according to Boi! Kuch bhi!
1.25 is not that bad as it was not holiday and many films opened to even less.
It is a poor opening, even if BOI are’s comments are cringe-worthy as usual. The opening is at around 25% of Naam Shabana’s and 50% of Phillauri’s.
I do think Sonakshi has been a major disappointment, whether talent-wise or BO-wise. She is very much like Esha Deol in those respects. Expect her to fizzle out very soon.

(Personally, I think an irritated Sonu shot his mouth without thinking on Twitter — a perennial danger with that platform — and then it snowballed, and he had to follow the logic through to the end. Hey, perhaps we should elect him US President!)
It was a deliberate tweet..There is not a single mosque within 2.5 km radius of Sonu’s house…It was a well calculated tweet knowing very well what he was getting into…
Now I don’t disagree with the role of loud speakers and effect of noise pollution. But I don’t think that was really the intent of the tweet in the first place…
Where does Sonu stay? As an aside I stayed in Bandra for nearly five years and there the noise rules are very strict, so even though there was a large mosque 3-4 buildings away (1-2 minute walk) I never heard any azaan, because none of the mosques there use loudspeakers. The only time we would hear religious music is when there were street festivals and music around Ganpati (personally it doesn’t bother me, but I can imagine kids trying to study for exams etc. or people trying to sleep being hard done by azaans or Ganpati festivities etc.). It has to be even-handed though: if we are talking about noise pollution then let’s look at all sources, not just single out one kind, or from one religion (e.g. Delhi’s jaagrans are pretty famous for proceeding well into the night; Mika pointed this out in his tweets as well; and what about non-religious noise pollution, like music loudly blaring/ parties etc.?)

Padman: Twinkle Khanna Laughs Off ‘Imaginary’ Controversy, ‘Say I Sold My Mangalsutra Too,’ She Tweets
Twinkle ‘Funnybones’ Khanna, who is the undisputed queen of Twitter, slammed a leading daily for their article about Akshay Kumar’s film Padman facing financial troubles. Twinkle is producing Padman under Mrs Funnybones Movies. Sharing the report (which is no longer available), Twinkle Khanna wrote, “When you write fiction-do go all out-add in your imaginary ‘exclusive’ that I also had to sell my mangalsutra and Padman is based on Putin.” Twinkle Khanna, now an author, is married to actor Akshay Kumar for 16 years. Padman is based on Arunachalam Muruganantham, a small town entrepreneur from Tamil Nadu, who invented low-cost sanitary napkins to generate awareness.
Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions to coproduce Meghna Gulzar’s espionage thriller
Towards the end of 2016 we had reported that the Talvar director Meghna Gulzar had locked a subject for her next directorial venture that would be based on the book Calling Sehmat. In fact we had also reported that the film revolved around a Kashmiri girl married to a Pakistani army officer against the backdrop of the 1971 war and that Alia Bhatt had been approached to play the lead.
Well now we hear that Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions will be coming on board to coproduce the film along with Junglee Pictures. While the film itself will go on floors in June or July this year, it will not feature any major action sequences since it is based on conditions that led to Indo-Pak war in 1971 but not the actual war. Instead the story of the yet untitled venture will follow Alia Bhatt’s character of a spy as she juggles between responsibilities as a daughter and wife as well as duties towards her nation.
Based on the Harinder S. Sikka novel Calling Sehmat, the espionage thriller will have the actress as a Kashmiri girl who is married to an army officer across the border who provides Indian intelligence agencies with invaluable information during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
Rajinikanth’s ‘2.0’ to clash with Akshay Kumar’s ‘Padman’ at box office
Akshay-Rajini starrer ‘2.0’ out of Diwali triangular contest with Ajay Devgn’s ‘Golmaal Again’ and Aamir Khan’s ‘Secret Superstar’; shifted to R-Day 2018 where Akki’s ‘Padman’ is already slotted
This Diwali was set to witness a three-cornered box office battle. Rohit Shetty had announced an October 18 release for ‘Golmaal Again’; so had the makers of Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth-starrer ‘2.0’.
Recently, Aamir Khan shifted ‘Secret Superstar’ from August 4 to the festive date with “Rajini sir’s blessings”. However, makers of the South superstar’s sci-fi thriller have suddenly decided to vacate the Diwali slot for a clear window — Republic Day 2018.
Raju Mahalingam, creative head and COO of Lyca Productions, the makers of 2.0, tweeted late last night, “Our most ambitious project, Shankar’s ‘2.0’ shifts to 25 Jan 2018. It moves from the earlier Diwali release to achieve world class standards in VFX
With only ‘Golmaal Again’ and ‘Secret Superstar’ now clashing on Diwali, there is jubilation in the camp of Shetty’s franchise.
Says Shibasish Sarkar, COO of Reliance Entertainment, which is jointly producing the film with Shetty, “We are happy that we now have a clear window. The ‘Golmaal’ franchise is synonymous with Diwali. Since it is a comedy, the subject goes with the festive cheer. It is a big scale project and we are hoping to get a much larger share of screens now.”
Interestingly, Republic Day is synonymous with the Khiladi. If buzz is to be believed, Akshay was eyeing the same weekend for one of his forthcoming films, ‘Padman’. But, obviously, there cannot be an Akshay vs Akshay at the box office.
There was also speculation about Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Aiyaary’ starring Manoj Bajpayee and Sidharth Malhotra being scheduled for an R-Day release.
With ‘2.0’ moving to January, film releases a week before and after are also likely to be reshuffled.
Padman would probably now come this year.
I now see the problems with non Akshay type of films. Their budgets are not controlled and they carry uncertainty with their release dates. This causes them to change dates thereby changing the plans of other films and their smooth releases.
Noor Second Day Business

Noor showed growth of 25% on Saturday which is normal Saturday growth but with such a low starting point the film had to double to have any chance of surviving. The two day business is under 3 crore nett which signals that the film will not even cover promotion costs in its lifetime run let alone the productions costs. If the film had doubled then maybe it could have had some sort of trend even if the final business remained on the lower side.The business of Noor over the first two days is as follows.
Friday – 1,25,00,000
Saturday – 1,60,00,000
TOTAL – 2,85,00,000
Matr the other release has fared poorly as it collected under 20 lakhs nett on day one.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan had to reshoot some scenes of filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma’s upcoming movie “Sarkar 3”. The cine icon says he will share the reason behind it soon.
No doubt the three khans are on top.
However i have always seen Aamir and SRK talk more about each other ‘only’ all the time. They are quite protective about the “Khan” brand. One can see them taking extra effort and going that extra length in doing so.
Usually Salman will add others like Hrithik, Ranbir, Akshay when asked the same question and desist from talking ‘Khan’ together as a brand.
I am not saying one is right over other. Just sharing a point of view – Exclusive over Inclusive mindset.

Actually Aamir said that he is very different from other Khans. Indirectly he is asking why they are clubbing them together. Salman is in the habit of praising one in order to downgrade someone else.
He isn’t distancing himself away from the Khan brand in any way, here. He is only claiming that all 3 of them have enjoyed 25 years of super-stardom which, to him,is quite unusual.
I think he is most probably replying to some silly question from some journo. And when the question is below-par intelligent, you can not expect a wise answer.
It is probably why the less a star talks these days, the wiser he looks.
He said,”Shah Rukh ka alag style aur raasta hai, mera alag style aur raasta hai, Salman ka alag raasta hai. There’s no logic. You can’t pinpoint why we’re still there.”
Except for Khan surname, they are very different from one another. It is like comparing Ranveer and Ranbir. Like comparing Sanjeev Kumar and Rajendra Kumar.
Whatever, it is their individual successes. Not because of that surname. In that case, why Saif is not as successful? Or Imran Khan? And their audience is also different. Salman and Srk are mainly patronised by muslims. Yes, muslims. That is why their films have so much success in high density muslim nations most of the time. While the same muslims are not that enthusiastic to support an Aamir film. Why Salman chooses Eid mainly for his most awaited films?
And Aamir talks only about his brand, not other Khans who are his competitors in every way. It is the press that constantly brings this and they exclude Saif, Irrfan etc, I have seen Aamir praising Ranbir many times. And he is sincere unlike Salman.
Liked this interview. He mainly focusses on how he works, which is way to different from any other Khan or anyone else. He mentions his interest in filmmaking, not just acting. I think he would like to direct once again.

Rumour has it that Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra who have acted in three films earlier (Dostana, Drona and Bluffmaster) may now come together again after nine years for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next production. While Abhishek might reprise the role of Sahir Ludhianvi, the role of the Urdu poet-lyricist’s romantic interest Amrita Pritam will be played by Priyanka Chopra. Earlier Shah Rukh Khan had been approached for the role. Many actors’ names have been tossed around for the role of Ludhianvi, including those of Irrfan Khan and Fawad Khan. The film titled Gustakhiyan, is all about Sahir’s relationship with poetess-novelist Amrita Pritam before he went on to romance singer-actress Sudha Malhotra.
This year on April 24, the Mangeshkar family puts forward a very special commemorative occasion. “It’s my father’s 75th death anniversary. It is also 75 years since I started singing in films. My father passed away in April and I started singing in cinema in October.”
Aamir Khan doesn’t attend nor collect awards. But this time he has made an exception for the one and only Lata Mangeshkar who Aamir admires and adores immeasurably.
And the Nightingale reciprocates the sentiments in ample measures. “I know he doesn’t collect awards. But he has made an exception for us. Aamir is indeed one of my favourite actors. Though we don’t meet any more I know there is enormous mutual respect between us. I’ve known him from the time he was a child. I’ve seen him at his home playing and jumping around at his home when I visited his father (filmmaker Tahir Husain). He has always showered immense affection on me. I remember when he made Lagaan he insisted I sing the bhajan ‘O Paalan Hare’. I love his focus and dedication to his work and most of all, I love his films. Taare Zameen Par is one of my favourite films featuring a contemporary actor. It is rare to come across an artiste with such a conscientious body of work. I remember once he told me that he would take a whole year off from acting to produce films and I had objected. We love seeing Aamir on screen. My siblings Meena, Asha, Usha and Hridaynath, and I are honoured to give the award named after my father to Aamir.”
Vyjanthimala is the other film personality being honoured by the Dinanath Mangeshkar Award at the function to be held on April 24 at the Shanmukhnanda auditorium.
Lataji lights up at the mention of the super-iconic legendary actress. “We were thinking of honouring one of the legendary classic actresses from the golden era. A few names were shortlisted. But my brother Hridaynath insisted we honour Vyjanthimala this time. She is such a rare combination of exquisite beauty and extraordinary acting talent. Such a fabulous dancer and do you know, she is also a capable singer! Bahubali 1 did 302 cr WW share and roughly close to 600 cr Net. Based on pre-release business, Bahubali needs around 360 cr WW share and close to 700 cr to reach HIT status.
Please note these are WW share and not net…
Basically part 2 has been sold at such high prices that it will need 700 cr worldwide gross, which is more than part one’s worldwide gross (650 cr), to reach HIT status.
The producers will take the highest price, but this is insane. Lets hope it doesnt turn out to be like another SRK movie with ‘high’ distribution price and ‘underwhelming’ box office performance.
Anyways, I will put my money on Rajamouli than SRK for sure!

Why Business Of Dubbed Tamil Telugu Not Included

The question that pops up in the mailbox regularly is that why is not the business of dubbed versions not included on the website especially when major Hindi films are dubbed in other in languages. Basically dubbing films is a token gesture and business will be in the 3-5% range of the Hindi version. Even a film collecting 10 crore nett in Hindi can be dubbed and it can do upwards of 25 lakhs nett.
The biggest problem is when dubbed business is included than you have to include films of that language as well to have the correct picture. Then the tax picture comes into play as a film doing a huge proportion of its business in Tamil will be paying much less tax than a predominantly Hindi film so NETT numbers make little sense. This can be explained better by the two charts below. First one is the top ten grossing films in HINDI and then the second one is top ten grossing films in all languages. In the second one some regional films come into play, even the topmost one then becomes a non Hindi release.

As can be seen above, the dubbed business changes the rankings totally. Another point to note is when a film is dubbed into another language then that business is not coming from a HINDI film, sometimes even the name is changed.
The figures in GROSS for all languages will change the rankings due to lower taxes for regional films and those are the ones that have to be used when you are not comparing like for like and they will put up tomorrow.
GST (Good and Service Tax) is supposed to be implemented soon and it will probably be one slab across the country which will give fairer playing field but its probable the state governments will give some sort of exemptions to regional films to make tax lower while there will be no relief as usual for Hindi films which always get step motherly treatment from the government. The plus will the highest slab in GST will be a little lower than the present taxes at an all India level.

Aamir cannot control Lataji’s choice of presenter. It would be churlish of him to refuse to accept the Dinanath Award which he respects; his second after TZP, in fact.
I have no problem with Mohan Bhagwat , the elder. But he IS a rather politically polarising figure — and apparently quite a few of the usual jobless opinionated on twitter found it hypocritical of Aamir to have accepted the award from somebody like MB with whom he may have political differences. All I am saying is that it may look unusual, but Aamir did not really have a choice in the matter, considering this is one award he cherishes, among a few others. I am guessing they are both ok with the situation. They look comfortable enough.
Mohan Bhagwat is just 2 years elder to Aamir as former is just 54 years old whereas Aamir’s 52!! Are they enemies?? They are not battling to outclass & outwit each other as different ideologies can co-exist & they ought not hamper personal relations & make it a game of one-upmanship & superiority!! And it was Lata Mangedhkar’s prerogative to pick & choose the chief guest to whom she deemed fit as she & her family are the organisers of Dinanath Awards & Aamir too did have the choice to not attend the ceremony in person if he thought Mohan Bhagwat’s choice as a chief guest a deliberate attempt to pit them against each other?? But neither Bhagwat nor Aamir fell prey to this bunkum thought process which serves no purpose as Aamir is not going to become “sanghi” by accepting award from Bhagwat nor Mr. Bhagwat is giving up his ideology of India as a hindu-rashtra by presenting an award to Aamir!! So both parties did end up ceding some territory to the other ensuing in win-win situation for both.

Don’t go by rumours. If it is anywhere near as good as the first part, it will still be one of the best pieces of cinema coming from India during the last 15 years or so.
From all the new movies announced until now or to be released during the next 2 or 3 years, this seems to be the most promising project.
Honestly, I am more enthusiastic about Baahulbali 2 than for Tubelight, TZH or even Thugs of Hindostan.
By any measure Baahulbali 2 is the biggest film around for many years. It will set records but most importantly it’s eagerly awaited not because of any one star but just the film itself.
Personally think it’s being underestimated in Hindi markets.
Even budget wise its the biggest (leaving aside 2.0 which will only come next year). The budget is reportedly 250 cr for part 2 itself and they have made 500 cr from pre-release sales of various rights!
The star of this film is Rajamouli and imo the first part was the best war movie ever made in India. I am personally not that fond of the first half, but was bowled over by the second half. If the Baahubali 2 picks up the pace and scale of the second half of Beginning, no way its going to be any disappointment.
The hindi version is being touted to make 200+ cr – that is no underestimation considering its a dubbed telegu movie. But the opening day can go higher than 25 cr imo.
The Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) has recommended an adult certification for the film ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ which explores women’s sexuality.
The film hit headlines after the Central Board Film Certification (CBFC) headed by Pahlaj Nihalani refused it certification for its “sexual content, abusive words and audio pornography”.
Trashing the arguments by the CBFC, the FCAT has asked for the film to be granted an ‘A’ certificate with “voluntary and some additional cuts and deletions”. It has asked the film makers to reduce the duration of sex scenes. The FCAT is the tribunal that hears the appeals filed by film makers or producers who are aggrieved by the CBFC’s orders.
Amid an uproar against censorship, Nihalani had refused to certify the film that stars Konkona Sen Sharma and Ratna Pathak, calling it “lady-oriented” and a “fantasy above life”.
The FCAT has found no merit in the reasoning that certification had to be denied on the ground of “women in the film shown in bad light particularly targeting women of certain community which might hurt sentiments.”
In a sharply worded judgment, the FACT has said the examining committee and revising committee of the CBFC have “misdirected themselves in denying certification on the ground that the story of the film is women oriented”.
Baahubali 2 : The Conclusion, in all its versions, is set to take the biggest opening day ever on a non-holiday. Talking about the Hindi version, it is set to go past the biggest of the films so far which have released in week where there has been no major holiday. Though there have been films like Dhoom 3 [36.22 crore], Dangal [29.78 crore], PK [27 crore], Kick [26.52 crore] and Dabangg 2 [21 crore] which have opened on a non-holiday Friday, each of them was an event release and ultimately had Eid or Christmas on one of the weekdays, hence ensuring that there was constant run of audiences in theaters right from the beginning.
However, one look at the other films which were non-event affairs and still opened big, and one gets an even better idea of how huge would the opening of Baahubali 2 turn out to be:
M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story – 21.3 crore
Dilwale – 21 crore
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani – 19.45 crore
Fan – 19.2 crore
Baahubali 2 is now set to go past each of these films on the first day itself as it is arriving at around 4000 screens and would see a minimum Day One occupancy of 60% at an average. With a capacity of around 40 crore available for itself on a day by day basis, the SS Rajamouli directed film is set for anything in excess of 24 crore, which is going to be a very huge feat.
What happens on Saturday and Sunday could well be unprecedented. However, for now it should be the all important Friday that should do the trick for the film industry. It has been quite a while since Bollywood say a major grosser amidst it. Ever since the release of Badrinath Ki Dulhania, there has not been a single mega grosser. The only film with decent collections has been Naam Shabana and that too has stayed under the 40 crore mark. Now all eyes are on how quick and fast would Baahubali 2 actually go past the biggest of the Hindi grossers [others being Raees, Jolly LLB 2 and Kaabil] on its release this Friday.
All said and done, even in the worst case scenario, it would emerge as the biggest Box Office earner of 2017 so far till Salman Khan’s Tubelight arrives on Eid. Now that would be quite a feat considering the fact that the Prabhas and Rana starrer is actually a dubbed Telugu film, and hence it would no mean record at all!
Top GROSS Numbers – Hindi And All Languages

Below are the present rankings of the highest grossing films in Hindi and also all languages. They are GROSS figures which make a minor difference as compared to NETT when we compare Hindi films but difference is big if we compare films in all languages. So for Hindi films and regional films which are dubbed into other languages, the accurate picture only comes with GROSS figures.
The NETT figures can be seen here. A 44 crore nett difference between Bahubali and Dangal becomes just 7 crore if we go by GROSS figures which is the fair comparison. These are the only two films to surpass 500 crore in India if we count all their respective versions. Dangal is the highest one language grossser at a little under 500 crore.

@Naveen – Baahubali 2 is chasing Dangal’s box office records. So it is natural that both movies will talked about in the same breath for the next few weeks (even if Dangal is last year’s release).
Even if the movie is half decent, it may end up competing with Dangal’s worldwide gross. Being a fan of both the movies I can say this – Dangal, with a budget of 70 cr, doing 1000 cr worldwide will be a far greater achievement than Baahubali 2, with its 250 cr budget, doing 1000 cr worldwide.
However, Baahubali 2 success cant be undermined either, since it will give license to Indian filmmakers to make more movies in this scale.

It will be worth seeing which film gets to the highest worldwide total for an Indian film – Baahubali 2 (in all versions) or Dangal with its second phase overseas release in China and other territories.

Dangal is going to beat PK by a huge margin and create a history mark my words,Sky is the limit there.Taiwan wld easily cross 4M$ at the very least and china is 55-60 times bigger than taiwan.I know many wldn’t be following that thing but expect min 30M$,Max limit i can’t put.Even by 30M$,it wld be close to 200cr and then a shot at 1000cr with lined up korea,HK,japan release.BB2 wldn’t get even to 800cr leave alone 1000cr.

No offense meant but if its about all languages combined, Baahubali is already (and still is) the highest NETT grosser “domestically” with over 400 Cr. Baahubali 2 (all languages) is expected to annihilate it and at the least case open 500 Cr nett club.
On day 1 itself Baahubali 2 is going to collect nearly 40Cr SHARE from two Telugu states alone. Collect close to 100 Cr NETT domestically on Day 1 itself. Nothing more to say bas six days ki baat hai, things will be clear to everyone soon.

Yes, over reporting is done but that is for Tamil not for Telugu films. The error, even if its there, is the least among all Indian film industries. That 650 Cr WW gross is right as much as 400 Cr+ Nett in India (all languages included). In Overseas Telugu films have very small market compared to Hindi (biggest) and Tamil (second biggest) films. US is major market for Telugu films and BB collected 6.69M there. BB2 is expected to cross 10M from US with first day (Thursday premieres+Friday) alone being more than 4M.

Other winners of the award include Kailash Kher and Naseeruddin Shah
Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, has ordered an investigation into the state’s top award – the Yash Bharti – set up by Mulayam Singh Yadav over two decades ago and given to Amitabh Bachchan, Naseeruddin Shah and Nawazuddin Siddiqui among others.
Mulayam Singh started the award in 1994 to honour eminent personalities who have done the state proud. During his son Akhilesh Yadav’s rule, however, there were allegations that the prize – Rs. 11 lakh cash and 50,000 monthly pension – was being handed out arbitrarily, mainly for the financial benefit.
Sources say if the inquiry establishes “misuse” of the award, the 50,000 monthly pension may be cancelled for recipients.
Some “Yash Bharti” winners like the Bachchan family – Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai – have not taken the pension.
Over the years, others who have been honoured include eminent poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, singers like Shubha Mudgal and Kailash Kher and cricketer Bhuwaneshwar Kumar.
When Mayawati came to power, she discontinued the award.

Dangal BO performance in Taiwan is terrific. Getting these sorts of numbers from non conventional market is astounding, considering the fact that the audience does not consist of the regular Indian diaspora . If the film performs in the same way in China than it would be one of the biggest achievement ever at the box office.
3 idiots by far remains the most popular film in the last two decades. The film’s goodwill has helped Aamir to make inroads into other big markets such as Taiwan, hong Kong and China.

Raj actually Taiwan is 55-60 times smaller than china with population of just 2.25 cr even much lesser population than just Punjab state with FF expected in range of 5Lacs.So,u can understand 4M$ in taiwan means as it’s a very very small country..Actually,it seems like that Dangal wld even beat XXX in taiwan.Taiwan is just more or less similar to china so performance in china is expected to be similar min 30M$.

Like in India FF8 is a superhit and may nett 75-80Cr. So if a Chinese film (Not Jackie Chan ones but mainstream chinese films) even doing 10 cr nett, will be Huge. Same comparison for Dangala would set things into perspective.

3I did 2.4m$ in china but rls was way too late in 2011 and everyone had already seen it online in china.To tell u simply 3I is probably the most popular non hollywood foreign movie in china.It’s at no.12 on chinese IMDB(douban) and has 6.25 Lakh votes more than many many hollywood biggies with rating of 9.1.If it releases today in place of dangal in china,ie 4 months after original release,it cld have done even 100m$ in china.Cld have set such records which wld have been impossible for any other indian movie to break,even aamir wld have found it very hard. Also 3I did 3m$+ in both Hongkong and south korea.

According to reports, the delay is caused due to special effects. It is apparently taking more time than expected, and so the movie’s release date has been pushed. Official word on the same is not out as of now. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala, however, tweeted, “BREAKING: @superstarrajini – @akshaykumar ‘s #2Point0 release postponed from #Diwali2017 to Jan 25th, 2018 due to VFX taking more time.(sic).”

‘The pace is relentless. If the film behaves like a family film like BB, Sat could be close to 25Cr, Sun 30cr+, week 2 should be above P.K’s 94cr easily (anything around 100-120cr is possible). Sultan will be passed in week 2 possibly but unsure about drop on 2nd Monday as its post New Year. Based on P.K trend, Dangal can pass 350cr with some ease and with this Friday base would be highly disappointing if it didn’t. Aamir on the verge of creating two more clubs. 2nd week 100cr club & 350cr club.
US is looking very similar with $7MM already in extended first week. Will comfortably beat P.K’s collections.
If it see’s a release in China (I presume likely given his track record there) this film can open the 1,000cr gross club.’
I said that on 30th December 2016. Remember my prediction, in India all came true. 1,000 CR WW was possible, i don’t know the yen to rupee conversion but P.K in China is on the radar for sure.
Of course with sarcasm i say whatever Dangal does in China, Tubelight should do multiples of at least on opening. Aamir only struggling in UK relatively and maybe UAE. But he’s got total dominance now in US and China the two biggest markets now. And China well is REAL as it is not Indian diaspora dependent.

Previously –
2.0 vs. SS – 150 cr for 2.0 & 100 cr for SS
2.0 vs. SS vs. Golmaal 4 – 100 cr for all 3 films
And now –
SS vs. Golmaal 4 – 150 cr for SS and 100 cr for Golmaal
2.0 has a lot at stake due to its high budget and it is good for the film to look for a less clouded release date. It might actually end up arriving at Pongal next year.
SS is now in the best possible situation. A content film only looks better when pitted against a no-brainer silly film (going by the golmaal franchise history). It happened so during TZP vs. Welcome, when a content film with Aamir in a supporting role took on a multistarrer comedy. Here also Aamir has a supporting role (reportedly 40-45 mins of screen time in a 2 hr film). And Golmaal is a comedy franchise.

A source close to the actor reveals that Dutt had no clue about the look and was surprised, when the photos took the internet by storm. “Sanjay got to know from someone how Ranbir’s look was circulated on various websites and everyone loved it. That’s when the actor learnt about the photos. On seeing them, he was stunned at the similarities that filmmaker Raju Hirani and Ranbir Kapoor had worked upon. He has absolutely loved it,” informs a source.
Ranbir’s look as a younger Sanjay Dutt, leaked in February last, and had also gone viral. At an event in Mumbai, last week, Ranbir said that the shooting for the film is 60 percent complete.
“As you can see, I’m in the look of Sanjay Dutt and we have shot for more than half of the film. It feels proud that I’m part of his biopic and I’m very thankful to Vinod Sir (Vidhu Vinod Chopra) and Sanjay (Dutt) sir specially for it,” Ranbir was quoted as saying.

Noor Has Disastrous First Day

Noor had a very poor first day as it grossed 1.25 crore nett. It looked the opening was going to be low but this low is a shocker because you would expect it to be close to the 2 crore nett mark. This leaves the film with hardly any chance as the first day has hardly shown an improvement so no way can day two show enough improvement for the film to even put up close to respectable numbers. The collections are not even 50% of other heroine orientated films like Phillauri, Naam Shabana and Begum Jaan and its not as if these films opened well.
Sonakshi Sinha who had a flying start to her career has seen rank bad films in the recent past like Lootera and Akira which found no appreacittion but this is another low all together. Its very poor cinema and you cant really expect the audience to turn up for films like Noor. Akira released around eight months back had opened to collections of 4.81 crore nett which was poor but this is a huge 75% lower.
Going forward there is little hope unless some miracle happens but thats a very unlikely scenario. the other films like Maatr, Ajab Singh Ki Gazab Ki Kahani and Ek Rani Aisi Bhi Thi hardly found an audience.
So Lootera is not appreciated according to Boi! Kuch bhi!
1.25 is not that bad as it was not holiday and many films opened to even less.

It is a poor opening, even if BOI are’s comments are cringe-worthy as usual. The opening is at around 25% of Naam Shabana’s and 50% of Phillauri’s.
I do think Sonakshi has been a major disappointment, whether talent-wise or BO-wise. She is very much like Esha Deol in those respects. Expect her to fizzle out very soon.

Where does Sonu stay? As an aside I stayed in Bandra for nearly five years and there the noise rules are very strict, so even though there was a large mosque 3-4 buildings away (1-2 minute walk) I never heard any azaan, because none of the mosques there use loudspeakers. The only time we would hear religious music is when there were street festivals and music around Ganpati (personally it doesn’t bother me, but I can imagine kids trying to study for exams etc. or people trying to sleep being hard done by azaans or Ganpati festivities etc.). It has to be even-handed though: if we are talking about noise pollution then let’s look at all sources, not just single out one kind, or from one religion (e.g. Delhi’s jaagrans are pretty famous for proceeding well into the night; Mika pointed this out in his tweets as well; and what about non-religious noise pollution, like music loudly blaring/ parties etc.?)

Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions to coproduce Meghna Gulzar’s espionage thriller
Towards the end of 2016 we had reported that the Talvar director Meghna Gulzar had locked a subject for her next directorial venture that would be based on the book Calling Sehmat. In fact we had also reported that the film revolved around a Kashmiri girl married to a Pakistani army officer against the backdrop of the 1971 war and that Alia Bhatt had been approached to play the lead.
Well now we hear that Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions will be coming on board to coproduce the film along with Junglee Pictures. While the film itself will go on floors in June or July this year, it will not feature any major action sequences since it is based on conditions that led to Indo-Pak war in 1971 but not the actual war. Instead the story of the yet untitled venture will follow Alia Bhatt’s character of a spy as she juggles between responsibilities as a daughter and wife as well as duties towards her nation.
Based on the Harinder S. Sikka novel Calling Sehmat, the espionage thriller will have the actress as a Kashmiri girl who is married to an army officer across the border who provides Indian intelligence agencies with invaluable information during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

Rajinikanth’s ‘2.0’ to clash with Akshay Kumar’s ‘Padman’ at box office
Akshay-Rajini starrer ‘2.0’ out of Diwali triangular contest with Ajay Devgn’s ‘Golmaal Again’ and Aamir Khan’s ‘Secret Superstar’; shifted to R-Day 2018 where Akki’s ‘Padman’ is already slotted
This Diwali was set to witness a three-cornered box office battle. Rohit Shetty had announced an October 18 release for ‘Golmaal Again’; so had the makers of Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth-starrer ‘2.0’.
Recently, Aamir Khan shifted ‘Secret Superstar’ from August 4 to the festive date with “Rajini sir’s blessings”. However, makers of the South superstar’s sci-fi thriller have suddenly decided to vacate the Diwali slot for a clear window — Republic Day 2018.
Raju Mahalingam, creative head and COO of Lyca Productions, the makers of 2.0, tweeted late last night, “Our most ambitious project, Shankar’s ‘2.0’ shifts to 25 Jan 2018. It moves from the earlier Diwali release to achieve world class standards in VFX
With only ‘Golmaal Again’ and ‘Secret Superstar’ now clashing on Diwali, there is jubilation in the camp of Shetty’s franchise.
Says Shibasish Sarkar, COO of Reliance Entertainment, which is jointly producing the film with Shetty, “We are happy that we now have a clear window. The ‘Golmaal’ franchise is synonymous with Diwali. Since it is a comedy, the subject goes with the festive cheer. It is a big scale project and we are hoping to get a much larger share of screens now.”
Interestingly, Republic Day is synonymous with the Khiladi. If buzz is to be believed, Akshay was eyeing the same weekend for one of his forthcoming films, ‘Padman’. But, obviously, there cannot be an Akshay vs Akshay at the box office.
There was also speculation about Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Aiyaary’ starring Manoj Bajpayee and Sidharth Malhotra being scheduled for an R-Day release.
With ‘2.0’ moving to January, film releases a week before and after are also likely to be reshuffled.

Noor showed growth of 25% on Saturday which is normal Saturday growth but with such a low starting point the film had to double to have any chance of surviving. The two day business is under 3 crore nett which signals that the film will not even cover promotion costs in its lifetime run let alone the productions costs. If the film had doubled then maybe it could have had some sort of trend even if the final business remained on the lower side.The business of Noor over the first two days is as follows.

TOTAL – 2,85,00,000

No doubt the three khans are on top.
However i have always seen Aamir and SRK talk more about each other ‘only’ all the time. They are quite protective about the “Khan” brand. One can see them taking extra effort and going that extra length in doing so.
Usually Salman will add others like Hrithik, Ranbir, Akshay when asked the same question and desist from talking ‘Khan’ together as a brand.
I am not saying one is right over other. Just sharing a point of view – Exclusive over Inclusive mindset.
SRK and Aamir revel in that exclusive tag.
Salman can be found to be more inclusive in his approach.

Rumour has it that Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra who have acted in three films earlier (Dostana, Drona and Bluffmaster) may now come together again after nine years for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next production. While Abhishek might reprise the role of Sahir Ludhianvi, the role of the Urdu poet-lyricist’s romantic interest Amrita Pritam will be played by Priyanka Chopra. Earlier Shah Rukh Khan had been approached for the role. Many actors’ names have been tossed around for the role of Ludhianvi, including those of Irrfan Khan and Fawad Khan. The film titled Gustakhiyan, is all about Sahir’s relationship with poetess-novelist Amrita Pritam before he went on to romance singer-actress Sudha Malhotra.

This year on April 24, the Mangeshkar family puts forward a very special commemorative occasion. “It’s my father’s 75th death anniversary. It is also 75 years since I started singing in films. My father passed away in April and I started singing in cinema in October.”
Aamir Khan doesn’t attend nor collect awards. But this time he has made an exception for the one and only Lata Mangeshkar who Aamir admires and adores immeasurably.
And the Nightingale reciprocates the sentiments in ample measures. “I know he doesn’t collect awards. But he has made an exception for us. Aamir is indeed one of my favourite actors. Though we don’t meet any more I know there is enormous mutual respect between us. I’ve known him from the time he was a child. I’ve seen him at his home playing and jumping around at his home when I visited his father (filmmaker Tahir Husain). He has always showered immense affection on me. I remember when he made Lagaan he insisted I sing the bhajan ‘O Paalan Hare’. I love his focus and dedication to his work and most of all, I love his films. Taare Zameen Par is one of my favourite films featuring a contemporary actor. It is rare to come across an artiste with such a conscientious body of work. I remember once he told me that he would take a whole year off from acting to produce films and I had objected. We love seeing Aamir on screen. My siblings Meena, Asha, Usha and Hridaynath, and I are honoured to give the award named after my father to Aamir.”
Vyjanthimala is the other film personality being honoured by the Dinanath Mangeshkar Award at the function to be held on April 24 at the Shanmukhnanda auditorium.
Lataji lights up at the mention of the super-iconic legendary actress. “We were thinking of honouring one of the legendary classic actresses from the golden era. A few names were shortlisted. But my brother Hridaynath insisted we honour Vyjanthimala this time. She is such a rare combination of exquisite beauty and extraordinary acting talent. Such a fabulous dancer and do you know, she is also a capable singer! I remember when in 1951 Vyjanthimala made her debut as Hindi film heroine in AVM’s Bahar I had met Vyjanthimala with her father who said, ‘My daughter sings too.’ I asked her to sing for me. And she did. And very well too. We’ve known one another since then. I’ve sung some of my best songs for her in Nagin, Amrapali, Sangam, Ganga Jumna, Madhumati and Jewel Thief. I remember running into her in London while shopping. She was with a friend to whom she excitedly introduced me as an old friend.”
One of Lataji’s most controversial songs ‘Buddha Mila Gaya’ was filmed on Vyjanthimala in Sangam.
The Nightingale laughs in fond remembrance. “I never wanted to sing that song. But when I saw with what dignity Vyjanthimalaji danced to the song I was happy.”

Bahubali 1 did 302 cr WW share and roughly close to 600 cr Net. Based on pre-release business, Bahubali needs around 360 cr WW share and close to 700 cr to reach HIT status.

Basically part 2 has been sold at such high prices that it will need 700 cr worldwide gross, which is more than part one’s worldwide gross (650 cr), to reach HIT status.
The producers will take the highest price, but this is insane. Lets hope it doesnt turn out to be like another SRK movie with ‘high’ distribution price and ‘underwhelming’ box office performance.
Anyways, I will put my money on Rajamouli than SRK for sure!

Why Business Of Dubbed Tamil Telugu Not Included

The question that pops up in the mailbox regularly is that why is not the business of dubbed versions not included on the website especially when major Hindi films are dubbed in other in languages. Basically dubbing films is a token gesture and business will be in the 3-5% range of the Hindi version. Even a film collecting 10 crore nett in Hindi can be dubbed and it can do upwards of 25 lakhs nett.
The biggest problem is when dubbed business is included than you have to include films of that language as well to have the correct picture. Then the tax picture comes into play as a film doing a huge proportion of its business in Tamil will be paying much less tax than a predominantly Hindi film so NETT numbers make little sense. This can be explained better by the two charts below. First one is the top ten grossing films in HINDI and then the second one is top ten grossing films in all languages. In the second one some regional films come into play, even the topmost one then becomes a non Hindi release.

As can be seen above, the dubbed business changes the rankings totally. Another point to note is when a film is dubbed into another language then that business is not coming from a HINDI film, sometimes even the name is changed.
The figures in GROSS for all languages will change the rankings due to lower taxes for regional films and those are the ones that have to be used when you are not comparing like for like and they will put up tomorrow.
GST (Good and Service Tax) is supposed to be implemented soon and it will probably be one slab across the country which will give fairer playing field but its probable the state governments will give some sort of exemptions to regional films to make tax lower while there will be no relief as usual for Hindi films which always get step motherly treatment from the government. The plus will the highest slab in GST will be a little lower than the present taxes at an all India level.

I would not take BOI number for Aamir films over AKP figures.

I have no problem with Mohan Bhagwat , the elder. But he IS a rather politically polarising figure — and apparently quite a few of the usual jobless opinionated on twitter found it hypocritical of Aamir to have accepted the award from somebody like MB with whom he may have political differences. All I am saying is that it may look unusual, but Aamir did not really have a choice in the matter, considering this is one award he cherishes, among a few others. I am guessing they are both ok with the situation. They look comfortable enough.

Mohan Bhagwat is just 2 years elder to Aamir as former is just 54 years old whereas Aamir’s 52!! Are they enemies?? They are not battling to outclass & outwit each other as different ideologies can co-exist & they ought not hamper personal relations & make it a game of one-upmanship & superiority!! And it was Lata Mangedhkar’s prerogative to pick & choose the chief guest to whom she deemed fit as she & her family are the organisers of Dinanath Awards & Aamir too did have the choice to not attend the ceremony in person if he thought Mohan Bhagwat’s choice as a chief guest a deliberate attempt to pit them against each other?? But neither Bhagwat nor Aamir fell prey to this bunkum thought process which serves no purpose as Aamir is not going to become “sanghi” by accepting award from Bhagwat nor Mr. Bhagwat is giving up his ideology of India as a hindu-rashtra by presenting an award to Aamir!! So both parties did end up ceding some territory to the other ensuing in win-win situation for both.

Don’t go by rumours. If it is anywhere near as good as the first part, it will still be one of the best pieces of cinema coming from India during the last 15 years or so.
From all the new movies announced until now or to be released during the next 2 or 3 years, this seems to be the most promising project.
Honestly, I am more enthusiastic about Baahulbali 2 than for Tubelight, TZH or even Thugs of Hindostan.

By any measure Baahulbali 2 is the biggest film around for many years. It will set records but most importantly it’s eagerly awaited not because of any one star but just the film itself.

Even budget wise its the biggest (leaving aside 2.0 which will only come next year). The budget is reportedly 250 cr for part 2 itself and they have made 500 cr from pre-release sales of various rights!
The star of this film is Rajamouli and imo the first part was the best war movie ever made in India. I am personally not that fond of the first half, but was bowled over by the second half. If the Baahubali 2 picks up the pace and scale of the second half of Beginning, no way its going to be any disappointment.
The hindi version is being touted to make 200+ cr – that is no underestimation considering its a dubbed telegu movie. But the opening day can go higher than 25 cr imo.

The Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) has recommended an adult certification for the film ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ which explores women’s sexuality.
The film hit headlines after the Central Board Film Certification (CBFC) headed by Pahlaj Nihalani refused it certification for its “sexual content, abusive words and audio pornography”.
Trashing the arguments by the CBFC, the FCAT has asked for the film to be granted an ‘A’ certificate with “voluntary and some additional cuts and deletions”. It has asked the film makers to reduce the duration of sex scenes. The FCAT is the tribunal that hears the appeals filed by film makers or producers who are aggrieved by the CBFC’s orders.
Amid an uproar against censorship, Nihalani had refused to certify the film that stars Konkona Sen Sharma and Ratna Pathak, calling it “lady-oriented” and a “fantasy above life”.
The FCAT has found no merit in the reasoning that certification had to be denied on the ground of “women in the film shown in bad light particularly targeting women of certain community which might hurt sentiments.”
In a sharply worded judgment, the FACT has said the examining committee and revising committee of the CBFC have “misdirected themselves in denying certification on the ground that the story of the film is women oriented”.

Baahubali 2 : The Conclusion, in all its versions, is set to take the biggest opening day ever on a non-holiday. Talking about the Hindi version, it is set to go past the biggest of the films so far which have released in week where there has been no major holiday. Though there have been films like Dhoom 3 [36.22 crore], Dangal [29.78 crore], PK [27 crore], Kick [26.52 crore] and Dabangg 2 [21 crore] which have opened on a non-holiday Friday, each of them was an event release and ultimately had Eid or Christmas on one of the weekdays, hence ensuring that there was constant run of audiences in theaters right from the beginning.
However, one look at the other films which were non-event affairs and still opened big, and one gets an even better idea of how huge would the opening of Baahubali 2 turn out to be:
M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story – 21.3 crore
Dilwale – 21 crore
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani – 19.45 crore
Fan – 19.2 crore
Baahubali 2 is now set to go past each of these films on the first day itself as it is arriving at around 4000 screens and would see a minimum Day One occupancy of 60% at an average. With a capacity of around 40 crore available for itself on a day by day basis, the SS Rajamouli directed film is set for anything in excess of 24 crore, which is going to be a very huge feat.
What happens on Saturday and Sunday could well be unprecedented. However, for now it should be the all important Friday that should do the trick for the film industry. It has been quite a while since Bollywood say a major grosser amidst it. Ever since the release of Badrinath Ki Dulhania, there has not been a single mega grosser. The only film with decent collections has been Naam Shabana and that too has stayed under the 40 crore mark. Now all eyes are on how quick and fast would Baahubali 2 actually go past the biggest of the Hindi grossers [others being Raees, Jolly LLB 2 and Kaabil] on its release this Friday.
All said and done, even in the worst case scenario, it would emerge as the biggest Box Office earner of 2017 so far till Salman Khan’s Tubelight arrives on Eid. Now that would be quite a feat considering the fact that the Prabhas and Rana starrer is actually a dubbed Telugu film, and hence it would no mean record at all!

They are GROSS figures which make a minor difference as compared to NETT when we compare Hindi films but difference is big if we compare films in all languages. Ya I was talking about All India gross only. Even the worldwide gross of Dangal is much higher than Baahubali.

The movie’s craze is unparalleled all over India. Movie is heading for All India 80% occupancy in its first three days across 6000+ screens. A potential 75 Cr + Nett opening considering hiked ticket rates.
This is in real sense First All India release after independence. The movie is releasing in all relevant languages and getting premium release seen only when superstars of each language.

@Naveen – Baahubali 2 is chasing Dangal’s box office records. So it is natural that both movies will talked about in the same breath for the next few weeks (even if Dangal is last year’s release).

Worldwide Gross expected to be 150+ cr on opening day!

Even if the movie is half decent, it may end up competing with Dangal’s worldwide gross. Being a fan of both the movies I can say this – Dangal, with a budget of 70 cr, doing 1000 cr worldwide will be a far greater achievement than Baahubali 2, with its 250 cr budget, doing 1000 cr worldwide.
However, Baahubali 2 success cant be undermined either, since it will give license to Indian filmmakers to make more movies in this scale.
