    • Not inspired but it actually looks like a remake with everything similar to the plot and story. Instead of Father going to war, here its a brother going to war and instead of Little Boy, it is Salman Khan as grown up man with child’s brain. Instead of WWII, it is Indo-China War. Even the shoe poster is very apt to the plot.

  9. It’s a good teaser. Seems on the same lines as Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which was a good film. If it is anywhere near as good as Bajrangi, then it is good news. It does look like a feel-good movie. More than anything they seem to be attempting something like Forrest Gump.

It’s obvious that the 2 Baahubali movies have really raised the standard to another level. But practically nothing of Baahubali level has been seen in Indian cinema for the last 15 years or so. So, it is going to be unfair to expect anything near that standard every time. I will be glad if it is anywhere near Bajrangi’s level. It was one of those good movies delivered by Bollywood once in a while.

Prefer a Salman not trying to act. The music score, feel is similar to BB. Might be the hook. But otherwise as feel good as it by be it also seems quite boring.

The physicality of Sallu just does not suit the emotions he is trying to portray. A lean sinewy underfed Ranbir in Barfi, or even the short goofy Aamir in PK cud pull out these “holier and innocenter than thou” portrayals. But this mushtanda making funny faces falls flat. Its as if Sultan came out of a mental asylum and headed to Arunachal.

  16. Salman Khan was better than Amitabh Bachchan in Bigg Boss: Kamal Haasan

Kamal Haasan said SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster Baahubali: The Conclusion, was a right step in the right direction.

At 62, actor Kamal Haasan is seemingly in the process of redefining his stardom. He is very vocal about his political views, mostly critical and he will be soon making his small screen debut with a reality show. He is currently finishing some patchwork for his next film Vishwaroopam 2 while also promoting his upcoming television show.

The actor said while preparing for the show, that he watched the Hindi version of Bigg Boss, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan. “I saw both Amitji and Salman Khan hosting the show. I liked Salman’s version better because there is an honest approach to it. I’m trying to do something similar, but different,” Kamal told The Hindu.

Bigg Boss was hosted by celebrities like Amitabh, Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi in the past. But ever since Bollywood superstar Salman Khan took over a couple of seasons back, there has been no looking back as he has now become the face of the reality show. Bigg Boss also has its Kannada version and actor Sudeep has been its part ever since its first season aired in 2013.

Kamal is very confident about his forthcoming television debut suggesting that playing a TV host for him is like taking a new journey on a familiar terrain. Talking about director SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster Baahubali: The Conclusion, Kamal said that the film was a right step in the right direction but he also suggested that Indian cinema is still miles away from beating Hollywood. “It’s the best thing that could have happened to the film industry, financially speaking. They’ve worked hard for it. But when they say that we can beat Hollywood, I’d say hold your horses. That’s because these are CG (computer graphics) horses,” he opined.

The Vishwaroopam actor thinks that the Baahubali franchise succeeded because the makers of the two-part epic series believed in it. “I wanted to do Panchanthanthiram Part-2 even while the film was being made. What’s good about Baahubali is that they believed in it. The people who made Anbe Sivam and Panchathanthiram did not believe in it at that moment like the makers of Baahubali believed in it now. They could have been pushed further,” he added.

The first season of Kamal’s Bigg Boss show will begin airing on Vijay TV from June 18. The makers of the reality show have constructed a posh house worth Rs 1 crore at EVP theme park. The show runners are also in the process of shortlisting 15 contestants for the season.

cheesy….flat…run-of-the-mill – all that is true for this promos for TL…..however Sallu is God’s favorite child as far as the BO is concerned….i was dead sure before BB that this movie will tank bigtime….and so I was before every Sallu release in last few years…..everytime I have been proven wrong 🙂 I think Sallu is more closer to Big B formula when he was at his pick in 70-90s….script or no script…..ppl went to c Bachchan….that is it….and Sallu has some innate innocence still very much there so he has complete control of mass’ pulse and just when we think – ah! again he is coming out with a crap-fest….the movie turns out to be another blockbuster….so Tubelight doing 200+ cr is a given no matter how good or bad product is….the question is how much Sallu has digressed from BB melodrama….

    Like

    • 200 cr is a disappointment and that doesn’t change what you expect. Even his last PRDP coming solo on Diwali did about that much and didn’t reach great heights but survived the backlash as BB did great that same year. But if Tubelight will do around 200 crs, it will be considered huge disappointment. Heck, even Srk’s last solo outing with Farah who was coming after Tees Maar Khan was considered disappointing as it did in the range of 180 to 200 three years back.

Solo and huge wide release reaching 200 crs is given for Salman and to show little acceptance it has to touch 250 crs and good acceptance around 300 crs like Sultan and great acceptance then like BB around 330 or 350 cr now.

PRDP was ming-boggling crap-fest 🙂 can u expect anyone except sallu fetching that kind of 200+ cr in that movie? aamir wudn’t have done it in the first place….srk is failing left and right off-late, akki is around 100-150 cr fair-price:-) so what i am saying is that sallu can still guarantee 200+ deal with HATHODA kind of movies 🙂 and that is why he is God’s favorite child – or one amongst a few….

        • “PRDP was ming-boggling crap-fest”

Don’t agree and certainly its not an urban pleasing movie but it does connect well to B,C centers easily. I felt the storyline was pretty good but Barjatya did very archaic execution and still I don’t think it was total failure, it had some good moments overall and hence it did 200 crs.

          Like

        • “so what i am saying is that sallu can still guarantee 200+ deal with HATHODA kind of movies”

Don’t agree with this also. Yes, he’s in his peak and in that flow. It will take multiple movies underperformance to get out of that peak but still he will have disappointments as everyone else and just coz of solo festive releases, he’s making it 200 crs. Last movie he had non-festive release in last 8 years was Jai Ho and it did 110 crs lifetime with even with a republic day holiday thrown in.

Opening will always be strong during festive release and its almost 100 crs in weekend and you can’t expect 150 crs lifetime right? 180-200 cr is bare minimum even if it keeps falling daily. You need to understand the logistics of the release and his current peak. So, if Tubelight does 200 crs ONLY, it is huge disappointment.

it his his own production – so disappointment for whom? all will profit. I think Jai Ho is the only movie which has under performed in last few years – all other movies of him have made huge money

Very difficult to sympathize with a 50 year old mentally challenged unless there is more to his character than what we see here. If you run into a Salman fan you might get some “look he is so cute” here and there but for an average viewer it is a turn off.

What might work is, if the character actually was normal towards beginning of the story, almost a super hero. Then an accident causes mental issues that makes him child like.

If the plot is anyway similar to Little Boy(Based on wiki), I doubt its chances. Obviously 250+ is a given regardless.

My in laws were visiting from India and the kids, they love the franchise and i dont see any other movie capturing the mindshare to that level any time soon. This is indeed cringeworthy to watch ! … a horrible song and body language of cast all wrong with song all over the place. It’s similar to Aamir’s cringe worthy moves doing that bare bodied Dhaakad song and numerous other item numbers he has unsuccessfully attempted from time to time.

There is a time and place for everything and just like Aamir confines himself within a ‘limited’ sphere (albeit with huge success recently) and does his limited stuff in infinite time, Salman too needs to get selective and cater to a niche market for a dividend windfall.

    • Aamir is not the best dancer around and he admits to be not fond of dancing. However, even the item numbers he did are never cringe-worthy. In fact the Dhakaad body language had more machismo than a shirtless Salman flaunting his body like a item girl most of the time.

Talking of cringe-worthiness and cheesiness, the trailer of TL and the subsequent songs takes the cake without any doubt. Even Salman fans seem ashamed of this poor show.

  44. Salman books Christmas 2019 for KICK 2!!
Sequel of Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kick will arrive two years from now.

It’s been three years since the release of Sajid Nadidawala’s directorial debut Kick, toplining buddy Salman Khan, and there has been constant speculation about a sequel to the 2014 actioncomedy which was the official remake of Ravi Teja-starrer 2009 Telugu hit by the same title. Now, Mirror has learnt that Sajid has booked Christmas 2019 for Kick 2 and Santa Salman.

According to a source close to the development, Sajid has been quietly working on the script for some time and will be giving Salman a narration next month. Part One revolved around Devi Lal Singh whose need for ‘kicks’ results in him getting involved with an elopement and then turning into a Robin Hood-like robber for ailing children who block Randeep Hooda’s cop Himanshu Tyagi when he aims his gun at Devi aka Devil who ends up as a cop himself at the end of the film. Kick 2 will take off from there.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who played bad man Shiv Gajra, a corrupt businessman, was shot dead in the original. It is also not clear yet if Randeep and Jacqueline Fernandez, who played Devi’s psychiatrist lady love Shaina Mehra, will return. But the source informs that Kick 2 will have an international action star alongside Salman. Prep will be heavy-duty as the action will be lavishly mounted with plenty of daredevil stunts and has continued over the two years. Shooting kicks off in early 2019 and the sequel will arrive on Christmas.

    • Wow, they are in a hurry to book the Christmas 2019 slot. 🙂

Salute will now have to come either on Independence Day or Diwali 2019. Independence Day will get my vote, provided they can get it ready by then.

      • Salute will start shooting by this year end and early next year. It will be ready by Aug 2019 easily.

        • I hope so Master.

Aamir’s films usually spend a long time in post production (which I think is his way of getting it right). TOH with its VFX is scheduled to spend a year in post production. Even the small budget Secret Superstar (budget is only 15-20 cr from what I hear) is spending almost a year in post production. If Salute shooting starts by end of this year (or even early next year), it will still get decent time for post production for an Independence Day 2019 release. Otherwise it may get pushed to Republic Day 2020.

AKP ususally deals with small/medium budget fares (except Lagaan which had a considerable budget). But this time they will have some amount of VFX involved to get the visuals right. So lets see.

I am certainly hoping for a Independence Day 2019 release (although there had been some earlier gossip of a possible Republic Day 2019 release, which seems v difficult to me).

          Like

      • But I will say that Salman’s feathers have been ruffled by the Dangal march. From taunting Aamir about a possible third marriage (Fatima gossip) to prematurely booking Christmas 2019 slot (do they have Kick 2 shooting schedule already finalized? I doubt it.)

Tubelight is going to be the first movie to have its BO collection reported in terms of gross and not nett with GST kicking in July. So obvious comparisons with BB2 (1600+ cr WW) and Dangal (1900+ cr WW) are seriously under the way. Salman’s highest WW grosser till date is Bajrangi Bhaijaan with 625 cr.

The move to gross collections is finally arriving. Maybe a box office accountant can answer this. If I’m a studio and pay X amount for a film surely that is taxable? What purpose is a distributor cost if it itself is an expense related to cost of sale? i.e why compare nett collections to gross distribution costs? It’s not an apples to apples comparison? Am I missing something?

Any case with how the ‘west’ had taken too Bahubali 2 and Dangal, they’ll carry on gross reporting even if India remains backwards.

          Like

        • Agree. Thanks to GST, a new system of BO reporting is order of the day. Indian sites and the media will have to adjust to gross figures. From the perspective of BO following, only the gross and budget should be taken into account. Who cares about the taxes, nett, distributor share, producer cut or even distribution price?

  49. A bad news for Tubelight.

Pakistani distributors refuse to release Tubelight
    06/15/201727

Salman Khan’s Tubelight will not release in Pakistan because the local filmmakers are fearing that it will pose a strong threat to their films.

According to the President of the Indian Film Exporters Association, Hirachand Dand, local distributors in Pakistan are hesitant to acquire the film, since there are two big local films scheduled for an Eid release and the makers do not want any competition, especially in the form of a Salman starrer.

“Salman has millions of fans in Pakistan and the filmmakers are in no mood to pitch their films against his. They are determined to protect the interests of their films instead.”

“The distributors are in no mood to pay the asking price for a Salman film even if it is released two weeks later since it would have released all over the world by then. The business will also have reduced by 30 percent. And these days, pirated versions of films invariably get leaked online within a week of their release,” he says, adding that a majority of Salman-starrers had released on the same day in Pakistan.

Veteran Pakistan distributor Amjad Rashi confirmed the same. “I am not the right person to comment but I doubt whether the film will get clearance considering the Indo-China war subject. Salman is no doubt a big star in Pakistan but the film could also face other hurdles as it reflects anti-China sentiments,” he said.

However, COO of Salman Khan Films- Amar Butala says, “Salman Khan Films is committed to taking Tubelight to markets across the globe with our overseas distributors Yash Raj Films. Salman has a huge following in Pakistan, which has only grown with the positive messaging on Bajrangi Bhaijaan. We hope to release Tubelight in Pakistan as well, and our efforts continue in that direction, but we respect the law of the land and judiciary if they decide otherwise.”

Personally I may still skip it unless the wom is at the level of Dangal.
Also may boycott for my #standagainstnepotism and Sohail’s casting.
Barely any female presence and no skin show is another reason esp when days are this hot and eyes need some thandai !

    • if you’re against nepotism you shouldn’t watch any film with one of Salim Khan’s sons (Sohail, Arbaaz or Salman)..

Frequently promoting relatives to positions for which they are not qualified is my definition of nepotism. The Sohail Khan bullet has been been fired and fizzled many times….

Salim Khan now is known as dad of Salman Khan not the other way round……..there is a difference.

        • So one can use nepotism to get into the industry but subsequently prove one is worthy of having received this chance? So appoint me for a job without looking at my qualifications and if I do well at it I will have justified the decision? meanwhile the other guys with great resumes just sit out because I’ve proved things? I’ve heard these sorts of arguments in the past. They ring hollow. Either there is nepotism or there isn’t. The idea that one gets in through nepotism and then shows one’s merit is absurd! I know the Ambanis know their job well but hey.. the shrewdest business minds in India don’t inherit the Ambani empire!

I thought Salim-Javed were household names? Sholay anyone? But hey I could be wrong…!

There are somethings that are just meant to be together. Over a period of time, they not just become synonymous with each other but also complement each other to the fullest. Amongst the many examples for this, one such combination is the release of a Salman Khan film during the auspicious occasion of Eid. Like almost every year, this year too, Salman Khan has gifted his fans their ‘Eidi’ in the form of TUBELIGHT.
First things first. Director Kabir Khan captures the attention of the viewers right from first shot of this character driven film. The impeccable camaraderie between him and his lead star Salman Khan was seen in their last blockbuster film Bajrangi Bhaijaan. This time round, the camaraderie has grown by leaps and bounds, which can be seen in this film.He has very sensibly handled the emotional scenes, without going overboard. While the tempo of the film is set in the first ten minutes, it is very rare that any film has ever started on such an emotional high.

The film’s storywriter (Kabir Khan ) deserves applauses galore for having come up with such a fresh story that has the right mix of patriotism, love, emotions and brotherhood. Eye Catching Cinematography. Crispy & Sharp Editing. First Rate Production Designing!

If it’s a Salman Khan movie, then, songs and music become very crucial. TUBELIGHT music (Pritam Chakraborty) definitely works by all means, majorly because it has all the elements that are required of a typical ‘Salman Khan film’. Music gels extremely well with the film and also the flow of the film. The film already boats of a chartbuster track in the form of ‘Radio‘.
As far as the performances are concerned, absolutely no prizes for guessing that the film belongs to the one and only Salman Khan, who makes no mistakes in delivering an outstanding performance in this film. His innocence is unmistakably charming. And it is this innocence that unfailingly captures melts and ultimately wins over the audiences’ hearts. Simply He gave National Award Worthy Performance. Terrific Performances by Sohail Khan, Zhu Zhu & Om Puri. Good Performances by all supporting actors. Shahrukh Khan looking Amazing in Cameo Role. His Fans will go gaga over his entry.
On the whole, TUBELIGHT is a not to be missed ‘Eid’ treat from Salman Khan and Kabir Khan. The film is a surefire hit and has got ‘B-L-O-C-K-B-U-S-T-E-R’ written all over it. This film easily qualifies to be Salman Khan’s BEST movie till date, featuring his career’s best performance. The film wins you over completely. Do not skip.

Well, well, well ! There are movies which establish their own zone wrt to the genre being attempted….so no figures pleas. Anomalies are there but by large basic standard bars will be surpassed no matter what. I mean why don’t just read this article & get some own perspective to your query –

    “If Tubelight Stops At 200 Cr, People Will Say Yaar Bakwaas;
Anyone Else Becomes The King”: Kabir Khan On BO Expectations

“…..In a conversation with Kabir about the film, the filmmaker spoke about how content was the ultimate king. But, Salman is one of the major highlights of the film, so would Tubelight have fared just as well without Salman?

    To this, Kabir answered,

“The moment you have a superstar onboard, the dynamics change. The opening becomes bigger but expectations also become bigger. If Tubelight stops at 200 (crores) it would have made money, but people would still say, ‘yaar bakwaas’.However, if any other star makes 200, they will be proclaimed king. So the dynamics definitely change, but our audience has very clearly shown us now, that ultimately it is the story that is king.

I don’t want to take names, but there have been films with superstars, which have not delivered business as they were supposed to do. People came in huge numbers on Day 1 and with the same speed, they exited on Day 2. Baahubali 2 has shown us that. The stars of Baahubali were not big names in our world (Bollywood), we didn’t know them that well. We knew Rajamouli, so if anybody is the star of that film, it’s the director, which is a very positive development.

Even in Dangal and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, it was more about the girls. And audience took to these films in a huge films, much more than what they would in what we call commercially sound films….”

    • A lot of what Kabir Khan is saying here applies to Salman himself..! And again there’s some elementary evasion here. It’s one thing for a film to go from 100 in week 1 to 200. You could say fewer people were interested but that the film was liked a lot. It’s quite another thing to go from 150 to 200! And so Kabir Khan could just provide an honest answer to what the standard should be. The problem is that if his film gets to 200 and suppose it fizzles out after a big start he’ll be the first to say ‘how many films make 200?’! Similarly BB2 has exposed Bollywood royally (pun intended!) but here too rather than learn from the film the industry has doubled down on its bankruptcy. So it’s like ‘only BB2 could do this so we needn’t bother, we can stick to our old standards’! the rest of his responses are also nonsensical (Dangal and BB were about the girls.. sure.. try getting that gross with just the girls!).
