  4. Baadshaho’s new song Mere Rashke Qamar recreates Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s timeless melody
    EntertainmentDevansh SharmaJul, 14 2017 12:23:42 IST

The much-awaited first song of Milan Luthria’s upcoming period drama Baadshaho, ‘Mere Rashke Qamar’, is finally out. The ghazal, originally sung by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, has been recreated by vocalist Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and music composer Tanishk Bagchi.

Ajay Devgn and Ileana D’Cruz in a still from Baadshaho. YouTube

The song is picturised on Ajay Devgn and Ileana D’Cruz’s characters. It documents the blossoming romance between an average guy and the royal heir of a Rajasthani family. It should be noted that the film is set in the early 1970s which was the time when the then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi snatched away the assets of royal families across the country.

It is this period setting that helps make the song even more romantic as Rahat’s soulful vocals, accompanied by Nusrat’s original vocals echoing in the background, lend a royal touch and old world charm to the song. Bagchi should be credited for mixing the two versions seamlessly which speaks volumes of his skill of presenting new wine in an old bottle. The additional lyrics by Manoj Muntashir are also in tune with the mood and setting of the song.

Devgn and D’Cruz’s chemistry is remarkable throughout the song and reaches its peak in the final seconds of the song. In fact, the ending is one of the most aesthetically executed full nude scenes in recent memory.

  5. What happened to the Ajay Devgn’s stand of WILL NOT WORK WITH PAKISTANI ARTISTS!!

Lol, forget working with current Rahet Fateh Ali Khan but they also bring out Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan who’s been dead for over 20 years now!!

Dhanda hai sab, ganda hai yeh!! Shameless, Ajay used that stance to promote Shivaay and once done right his next movie and 1st song we see Pakistani artists!!

  7. This may at most get to 100 cr. Not looking interesting. Likely to open at 10 cr range, get a weekend around 30 cr and IF liked in the massy belts can get to 100 cr.

    • Golmaal Again I believe will do much better. Can open in the range of 30 cr (Devgn had done it previously with the Singham sequel). As an action-comedy sequel to an established Golmaal franchise, it can do 150-200 cr in total, with all the Holidays advantage during Diwali. That should give Devgn a solid hit/superhit film since Singham Returns (2014).

I think only TZH is a guaranteed 100 CR + and/or Golmaal Returns. Every other film will depend a lot on content. They can go big or can go the Tubelight / JJ way.

        Like

        • I would say that Golmaal Again is a gauranteed 100 cr and TZH is a gauranteed 200 cr film due to the sequel factors. Anything less for these two films will be surprisingly poor. Smaller films like TEPK and SS will be doing well enough at 80-90 cr, even Baadshaho. JHMS and Padmavati i think will need 100 cr to be counted as success. Of course if content clicks then anyone of these can throw big numbers. But overall it does not look like this is going to be a great year for bollywood at BO (leaving aside BB2).

        • Well, Salman has TZH as backup, SRK has Dwarf, Ranbir has Dutt biopic, Akshay has too many.

          Like

        • I dont think Dwarf is a safety net for SRK in case JHMS under performs. It is taking its own time in production, has a lot of VFX involved and consequently has a high budget. It is helmed by a director who is not experienced with high budget films. And you have SRK playing a dwarf. I would say its a risky venturthe e and no one else except Red Chillies themselves would have green lighted such a project at this point. This is as experimental as you can expect SRK to be.

Dutt is a different deal since you have the Hirani factor. Hirani makes good films with decent budgets. Even if the distribution price goes high (may get renegotiated after JJ, who knows?), its still not that big a risk if one considers Hirani’s track record at BO.

As for Salman, if TZH does not work for him then I dont know what will. It is the safety net for him surely after Tubelight debacle.

  9. Who is Taanaji Malusare?

    http://indianexpress.com/article/who-is/who-is-taanaji-malusare-4759309/

Taanaji Malusare is most popularly remembered for the Battle of Sinhagad in 1870 where he fought against Mughal fort keeper Udaybhan Rathore, a formidable Rajput warrior, until his last breath, which paved the way for a Maratha victory.
Subedar Taanaji Malusare was a superior general and a man of iron will in the army of Chhatrapati Shivaji and also one of his dearest friends. He is most popularly remembered for the Battle of Singhagad in 1870 where he fought against Mughal fort keeper Udaybhan Rathore, a formidable Rajput warrior, until his last breath. Malusare’s martyring paved the way for his men to fight with renewed vigour fuelled by their rage and defeat the enemy that outnumbered them vastly.

Battle of Sinhagad: In 1665, the Treaty of Purandar required Shivaji to give up the Maratha fort Kondhana to the Mughals
The idea of Mughals taking control of the fort was deeply disturbing and enraging to Shivaji’s mother Rajmata Jijabai. The conquest was considered virtually impossible but her decision was made. Upon knowing that her wish was unrelenting and set in stone, Shivaji entrusted Taanaji, the only man he could think of capable of finishing this dangerous mission — to reconquer the fort Kondhana, at any cost. So Taanaji rallied his troops of 1000 mavals and marched towards the fort in February 1870.

The fort had only two doors. The siege by Taanaji’s men was laid from the south side of the fort where there was only a deep cliff and no guards. According to legend, Taanaji had brought along with his pet ghorpad, or monitor lizard, that can cling to rocks. Rope was tied around it and the lizard was made to climb up the cliff, which set the ropes for the soldiers to climb.

    • Desai would have loved the lizard story here as do I! Otherwise this is more of the porn-for-Hindtuva-types genre. Not surprisingly Devgan’s in it!

      • Its like everyone wants to capitalize on Shivaji’s story but they are scared with the controversies and responsibilities the Shivaji biopic will have. So, they create the story basing on the side characters of Shivaji and then present them as the biggest warrior and leader even eclipsing the main character(for the movie). So you get all the vibe of Maratha kingdom and maratha folks with Hindutva type feeling but without the negativity or controversies of the biopic and it is the perfect alternative for a Shivaji biopic.

Moreover even Shivaji was not a king and just a minister under Mughal before and around this war and they started the revolt to take back some of the areas but you’ll see in the movie that Shivaji is shown more powerful and more big than even an Akbar or Auragzeb who conquered basically whole of India. What can you expect when just a prime minister of one of descendants of Shivaji is shown living a life of Akbar in Bajirao Mastani with two huge mahals under him and everything.

It is the time and mood of the country..

To be honest I have a perfectly reasonable suggestion.. people who have this sort of perspective on Muslim rule should boycott each and every SRK, Aamir, Salman film in the theater (or should have been doing so forever). Without Muslim rule in India it’s fair to assume that these gentlemen wouldn’t be around. Or there would be no actor with this sort of name. The only principled position is therefore a complete boycott of these three (one could include other lesser actors too). Beyond this one should also boycott every Bachchan movie where he plays a Muslim (or Christian or whatever) and therefore feeds that same secular romance. The most disgusting one is Deewar where he doesn’t go to the temple and nonetheless believes in the ‘786’ after the meaning is explained to him (of course it’s not just his superstition because the 786 actually keeps saving his life). And so on for all kinds of masala and other films. Until one takes this very comprehensive, principled, reasonable approach one will never win this battle. So here people are lynched every week and there actors with Khan last names have huge box office grossers. How can things proceed this way? If one follows my suggestions then India could truly be different. That’ll show Akbar and the other Mughals we mean business!

  15. Leaving aside religious angles, it is plain bad idea to make a big budget historical with Devgn in the lead. At best it will end up like Shivaay, where the producers inflated the BO numbers to show 100 cr on paper, but it was still not sufficient to justify its big budget. Devgn does not have the star power to carry off big budgets. Even if this film gets made, not many will be interested to watch it.

With Barfi and Main Tera Hero (I think it was a reasonable deal at the BO) behind her and now Rustom as well Badsahoo – she has got meaty roles. Next is Aankhen 2. Good choices of films.

He won national award for performance. I like both Ajay and Kajol. He has Golmal returns and Baadshaho. Both will be hits. If Shivaay was edited well and had tighter script, it would have been a genuine hit.

    Like

    • Ajay i think will do well this year with Baadshaho and Golmaal. But making Akshay irrelevant is not going to happen. I think tepk may flop but akshay has too many hits at this point and too many interesting projects lined up for next year. Its not a srk like scenario of a series of underperformers, then a disaster in strength genre and no line up of films to follow.

      Like

      • Akshay has only physicality and agility. His acting is so monotonous and his voice matches with his acting. That is why inspite of lukewarm hits, he is never able to displace srk. Ajay is a dark horse and he is spacing his films well.

        • I think Akki is a good actor – I caught up with Rustom recently, he was good. But what he lacks is mkting of his film like Aamir. Rustom was a thriller well directed and acted but imagine if Aamir did that….at the BO result would have been 3 times more. Akki is in a hurry to do 5 films a year – that shows that he has little interest in mkting his own films…..Ajay is an intense actor no doubt but again he has lost the hold on BO – his fan following is erratic…..Shivay was a crap-fest……Badshahoo will give 100+ surely – but Golmaal again is a crap-fest….he is also on a serious decline

  20. Interview: Ajay Devgn talks about Baadshaho and all that is going wrong in the Hindi film industry right from the content to distribution circuit to the ticket rates
    BY: HIMESH MANKAD | August 23, 2017 12:49 pm

    http://www.inuth.com/entertainment/bollywood/interview-ajay-devgn-talks-about-baadshaho-distribution-circuit-ticket-rates-media-screenings-and-more/lite/

A good interview / read from Devgn. Btw on Salman this is what I was saying but people misuse his well known benevolence.

“…..Salman’s Tubelight and Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Harry Met Sejal failed to live onto the massive expectations following which the distributors urged the stars to refund their money. What is your take on this?

On humanitarian grounds, if somebody wants to refund it’s fine. But if I talk technically, nobody can ask the producer to refund. If I have earned something and you have not, I will be happy to share. Technically there are two ways of buying a film: one is Minimum Guarantee and other is Advance. Some distributors buy a film in advance which means they would buy the film for say Rs 10 crore for a territory. If the film covers Rs 10 crore, then it’s fine but if it doesn’t then you (producer) pay me back. MG is minimum guarantee which means you have bought my film for Rs 10 crore. Then you can’t technically ask (for) money back because if you do, then everybody is buying the film on advance basis and not MG. On human grounds it’s fair enough, but you can’t demand the money.
But do you think it is okay to hold only the superstar responsible for the failure of a film?

It’s all in the relationship. It is not okay to hold a superstar responsible for the failure of a film. When Salman’s film earned over Rs 100 crore multiple times in the past, did they share the profits? Business is business, some films work, some don’t. You can’t hold Salman responsible because he has delivered so many hits in the past.

Why do you think are audience not coming to the cinema hall in large numbers? Is the ticket rate to be blamed for this?

Ticket rates are not in our control. There is no unity here. The whole industry needs to unite and go on strike, fight with the multiplex to cut the ticket rate down. Another point to note here is that for multiplex as well everything is so costly. They need to pay electricity bills, land costs so even they are bleeding. That’s inflation.
